I’ve been using Ketoconazole for 8 years for Seborrhoeic dermatitis. I get it mostly around the perimeter of my head/ears. It’s helped a lot. I realized real quick when I used to apply to my whole head, my hair was drying out. Now I apply to the scalp only. And I follow with a moisturizing shampoo or a no suds conditioning shampoo. I now only use it twice a month. I mostly use As I Am dry and itchy scalp cowash and oils. I feel it helps a lot!

I used ketoconazole for my Seborrhoeic dematitis for the first time yesterday and after seeying what it did to my hair I was horrified. I started my curly hair journey not too long ago and I started to think all my efforts had been for nothing. I've been looking up ways to limit the damage and recover all day.

@@tatianadaniel3569 No hair loss. Since this post, I got microlocs. Best decision ever!!. I don’t get flare ups anymore. Just 1-2 small area close to my ears. I still use the Ketoconazole shampoo for my scalp. I now know that the seborrheic derm. Feed off of the oils and butters I was using. Coconut, Shea butter are two of the ones I used the most. Before I Loc’d I detoxed my scalp and used only the Mielle pomegranate line. I used mostly the foam and gel for my wash and gos. If the first 5 ingredients had oils and butters, I stayed away from it. I made my own oil for my scalp from MCT OIL. I added a few drops of tea tree. Mct oil is on Amazon or a health grocery store. My curls were moisturized with those products. Hope this helps!

@@naturalhoney Thank you so much for the detailed information! I'm relieved to know that this product worked for your scalp!
I'm going to look into the MCT OIL and tea tree oil that you've suggested. Do you think aloe vera GEL (fruit of the earth brand, from walmart) would be a good styling product until then?

Thank You for making this video - I know coconut oil dries my hair so when my Dermatologist literally didn't take this into account, and the Ketoconazole shampoo is mixed with that.
I'm saying no for now, unless my hair loss become "nothing to lose" status

I was prescribed this when I was suffering from severe scalp issues.I quickly noticed a difference so I kept using it but my it had harmed my curly natural hair so much that it’s breaking off. I didn’t even have those instructions on my bottle. My anxiety has increased because of the dry texture change and I can’t stop touching it 😖

Wish I came across your channel much sooner. Ketoconazole definitely discolored and dried my hair. My texture changed and my curl pattern is completely gone. The dermatologist also gave me mometasone furoate topical solution which also contributed to everything mentioned. At this point I need a trichologist that knows or understands coarse hair.

Yeah, I haha this shampoo is strictly for dermatitis, psoriasis and things of that nature. Do NOT use it as a clarifying shampoo. Wanna clarify your hair? Use shampoos from harvest health that have mint and tea tree👍🏾❤️

I’m so sorry to hear you are going through this, that can be so frustrating and uncomfortable.
Be careful with the shampoo I personally feel like it dries me out. Try using zinc see if you can find that and put it on your scalp to soothe it. I also find that not having too much product build up helps me too.
My scalp gets really irritated when there’s a lot of product build up.
This is a journey, not a sprint. It will get better, slowly but surely ♥️♥️

My dermatologist prescribed this shampoo to me and it dried my curly hair out. I will not be using it anymore because I don't want my hair to break from it. I had to put a lot of coconut grease and olive oil and water in my hair just to bring back the moisture. She also prescribed me tretinoin cream which also dries my skin out on my face. It's crazy.

This shampoo also dries my hair out, tangles it where I really work it into the roots, and has been seeming to be straightening my wavy/curly hair.
A routine I've worked out is to wash my hair once or twice (usually with Head & Shoulders) to get my scalp clean so the ketoconazole shampoo can really work. I apply a little at a time directly onto my scalp, working it in and squeezing the lather back up towards my scalp, trying not to let much go too far down my strands. When I have my scalp covered, I put my hair in a high bun, and again squish my hair to concentrate the shampoo onto my scalp. I let it sit around 10 minutes and then rinse for a pretty long time. Then I DOUSE my scalp and hair with a diy diluted vinegar and water spray, put that up and let it sit for 5-10 minutes and when I rinse that, a lot of the dried out feeling is gone (plus the vinegar helps even more with controlling scalp itch). Then I put my conditioner in, let it sit a while, detangle, and rinse.
I don't know if the vinegar & water spray/rinse will work across the board for all hair types and textures in combatting the drying effects of ketaconazole, but if you *have* to use the shampoo, and are looking to try something, that has helped me.

So….several questions. You partially followed the instructions on medication given to you and then made a video saying this medication isn’t for people with curtly hair…..even though you didn’t follow the instructions? Also that medication isn’t for general scalp issues it’s for severe to mildly severe scalp issues. That 2% is a harsh chemical. It doesn’t clarify. If you wanted Nizoral you could have gone to Target.

Idk about her, but it reduced my scalp issues after 3 or 4 uses. I’ve since switched to Derma E Psorzema Scalp Relief shampoo (applied directly to the scalp with a small plastic applicator bottle) that also works and isn’t as drying. I also really like rosemary tea rinses and think it helps keep my dandruff at bay the longest. To make it, just steep fresh rosemary in distilled water (bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer). Once cooled, pour into a plastic applicator bottle, flip your head upside down, and squeeze the tea directly onto your scalp. I do this as the final step on wash days every 2-3 weeks. If you make a big batch, you can freeze it into ice cubes and thaw them out as you need them.
