I use the 1% concentration. One thing it definitely does is that it slowed down my shedding. Not sure about hair regrowth, but I def think it helps with retaining what you have.

Was prescribed the cream for my skin and decided to try it on my scalp. I haven’t had any growth in these areas in over 10 years and boom, hair growth. 😮 I apply a small amount to my temples after spraying with rosemary water and then seal with shea butter.

Also in addition to using ketaconazole shampoo and lowering your sugar intake which causes fungus on the scalp, you should take a good oral probiotic that keeps candida from flourishing in the body. tinea versacolor also is fungus that should be treated on the scalp the same way. a lot of alopecia should be recognized as fungus on the scalp and treated as such. a lot of hair loss dwould be prevented

Have you ever tried oiling your hair? I am Indian and we swear by oiling our hair over generations with Aryurveda. It's taking over in the western trends too. Amazing for hairgrowth and thickness and there are oils that even kill bacteria and things that cause itchy scalp.

So many people complain about ketoconazole shampoos irritating their scalps. I get the impression that it might not even be the keto, but the other inactive crap they put in it. I don't understand why they don't try to make a milder version of ketoconazole shampoos without sodium laurel sulfates, etc.

Ketoconazole and the word safe has my vote.
I've been using Ketoconazole shampoo since October 29th as I've shared my story with you Helen... love you and your videos of course.
I'm getting over my second covid and have not seen lots of shedding going on.
Since I stopped the Rogaine , now after shampooing I do loose more hair in the drain but not throughout the day so not really worried about it.
    Your hair looks great.
Would you ever consider stopping Rogaine and trying Ketoconazole shampoo only? For health reasons ❤️

The problem with Dr Dray and many doctors is they are a know it all. They just go off studies and don't really research actual experiences. I believe experiences of large populations of people and if there is a hint of side effects or long term effects, I stay away from it. My prescription of Keto sits on my shelf because Inside the pamphlet says "1 in 100 people experience hair loss." Maybe I will patch test it and see what happens.

    • @HelenAvery

It's definitely interesting to see the different perspectives from different doctors!

It seems irrational to base things solely on a study or solely on your own experience. Part of the reason for double-blind randomized controlled trials in the first place is that people can be wrong about their experience and they often are. People easily assume something is working when it's not. The placebo effect is well known. I've even seen people claim something worked for them when it clearly didn't in my own life. I think it's a bad idea to rely solely on anecdotal evidence or solely on one study (unless it is a very decent study with a large sample size). Generally, I try to look for multiple studies with different authors and I try to find studies with decent methodology (for example randomized, placebo-controlled trials) and larger sample sizes. I will listen to those over a bunch of people claiming something any day. There are just so many examples of people being wrong about the effectiveness of some "remedy". With that said, if there is a lot of anecdotal evidence that contradicts studies and the studies have issues with their methodology, then it might make sense to question the studies. It's a matter of critical thinking rather than just labeling someone to know it all and going with your anecdotal personal experience and intuition instead.

@@1DangerMouse1 my experience has been that doctors are mostly idiots parroting information that they read somewhere and the same information I can read. They hardly ever get to the root of the problem to cure it and pretty much only prescribe band aids. Every human being is different and it's important to listen to actual experiences and decide what's best for you while also considering the medical answer to something. I tend to be holistic and it has worked for me in my life so far. Someone else may have an amazing doctor but I haven't met one yet ☹️

It's hard to compare DHT blockers to regrowth stimulants because they don't have the same mechanism of action. I've been using Nizoral since 2004, which was when I started using finasteride. I don't think Nizoral or any shampoo belongs in the same category as the FDA-approved drugs. They recommend Nizoral on the Bald Truth and say that it increases the diameter of the hair shaft. I called the Nizoral customer service number to ask whether it helps with hair loss, and they immediately told me no. They have probably gotten questions before about its potential as a hair loss treatment and are uncomfortable making any claims. I also asked the Nizoral customer service whether it increases the diameter of the hair shaft, and they told me no. It still probably doesn't hurt to use Nizoral as part of a hair loss regimen. I've been using the 2% version since 2004 in hopes that it will at least slow down my hair loss. The more important drugs I use in my regimen are dutasteride and oral minoxidil, and I'm doing well with those. I used to use finasteride, but it wasn't strong enough to stop my hair loss. It is interesting that my regimen is dutasteride, oral minoxidil and Nizoral, which are three prescriptions that are off-label and not FDA approved.

I think the shampoo is good if you're already on minoxidil.
I'm on minoxidil and I'm struggling with itchiness and a flaky scalp so using it with minoxidil it might be a good combination.

Thanks for your video. I could be wrong as I saw the Hair Loss Show video some time ago but I thought they didn't really think ketoconazole shampoo was effective because for the skin to start absorbing any active ingredients they would need to be in contact with the skin for at least 5-6 minutes. Most people wouldn't shampoo their hair for this length of time.

That's right, I rewatched it and that's part of the issue the doctor mentions. And yet...some derms do recommend it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Actually my dermatologist told me to leave Ketoconazole shampoo on my scalp 7 minutes 3 times a week

  • @1DangerMouse1
    @1DangerMouse1 2 года назад +4

The ketoconazole was used daily in the study (see the method section). Also, it was a 2% concentration solution. So, it is not clear to me that using an over-the-counter 1% concentration version (unless you have access in Canada) only twice per week would yield the same result. It seems that, if it does work, we don't fully understand the needed dose or the frequency of use you would need. If you look at minoxidil data, there is data on the dose and the half life of the substance. That's why you use a certain concentration once per day. I would not use ketocanazole over the counter based on that study unless I was willing to use it once per day and remembering that 1% might not work. Also, the authors declared no competing interests. However, I do wonder who funded the study. It's odd that they would take pictures of wet hair first and then dry later in the follow ups. Usually, you would do that for promoting a product. It was just strange to me and it's why I looked for conflicts of interest. Why did they use a 2% concentration of minoxidil rather than 5%? I just see multiple problems with using that study to make a decision about using ketoconazole shampoo for hair loss.

Unless your hair loss is related to an overgrowth of fungus, it doesn't seem like it would work. An over growth of fungus is closely tied to diet and would make me review nutrition first. I.e. fungus over growth is a symptom, not the cause.
