- I just happened to be at the right place at the right time. This week on Angling Archaeology I stumble across a huge lot of vintage fishing lures and bought them all. Let's see what I got... and I might need your help to identify a few. Was it a good deal? Watch and see!

Great find very Nice buddy thanks for describing each lure and history
Spoonplugs made it to the top shelf
The first lure you picked out of the last box was a Woods Spot tail someone gave a sloppy paint job and added spinners on the nose. Spot Tails came in three forms one had a tail spinner, one was a diving model with a metal bill, and another with a large cup and screw eye tail. The 3rd lure was a Poe's. The last one in the third row looks like a Gilmore. The first bottom row looks like a Wright & Mcgill. I think the wire on the Tru-Temper helps it from getting snagged easy, they do dive on a steady retrieve.
Awesome info! I appreciate it. Thanks for watching.
Hey Mike don’t know the 2 your wanting to know what they are, but I like the big perch! I’m a perch man I think it’s a chug bug by storm. That’s the one I use! Nice collection! Enjoyed!
Thank you for making these videos man. My father just passed away and I've been using these videos to learn more about his lure collection. But tbh you also just have an awesome personality and I love watching your videos, you're really helping me through a tough time right now. Bless you man 🙏
I’m very sorry to hear about your loss. That’s what’s great about these old lures, it’s more than just lures, they spark great memories on the water. Thank you for kind words and writing in.Take care
I have a tadpolly in the original box but it’s a chrome color. Brand new but the box is beat up lol. Also have a bunch of flatfish lures from the 70s/80s
Mystery stuff -Nice ! Sorry don't know either
Awesome content 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you for sharing what you come across with old lures! My two main soft plastics back in the day was gator tail worms and Fliptail lizards!
Cool beans! Awesome find! Love that zebra mouse! Pretty wild 🤠
Love the crusty vintage fishers. I enjoy cleaning them up and fishing them. You got several I don’t have! Great stuff!
The Tube Worm looks like a fun plastic. Nice haul!
Dang! Just keeps coming! Gotta love it 🤠
I love to collect old lures as well, sad thing is I don't know what 80% of them are. Thats one good thing about this channel is sometimes you show something I have, and usually give me a little educating on it. I would like to see you give us a tour of your collection sometime, I know you have some really neat stuff!
Awesome!!! I recently scored on the tackle at an estate sale of a former bait shop owner. Love hunting in the wild 🎣😎🎣
I don’t know much about lure history but I sure do love hearing about it. Please keep these and the estate finds coming.
You and retrobassin should get together and talk shop
"Thanks for watching " lol thats funny. You have aw3some content i am a bit of a archaeologist myself, i like to check out estate sales yard sales, flea markets and rumage sales looking for vintage lures... I do ok but you blow me out of the water. I didnt recognize a single lure from the last box but i would say that is a steal for that price. You keep the content coming i am more than happy to keep watching. Happy fishing.
I appreciate that! The estate sales have been tough this year…. but lucky to run across this find
Thanks for watching haha!
Dude please never stop posting. Love your videos
I swear, it almost looks like you've went through some of my tackle! LOL. I'm still fishing a lot of the lures in that case, from '80's and 90's. And those Ditto Gator tail worms were made about 30 miles from where I grew up in FLA. So, I enjoyed when you used to discuss records and bands (duh, I'm a musician!). As for that last box of lures, I have no idea what those are.
Haha! I need to bring back more vinyl talk. Thanks for watching
First I’ll say that creek chub surface dingbat is in the color red wing black bird which is a very tough color ($$$).
24:38 Bomber Jerk lure made for saltwater. That looks like its potentially a pretty rare color. I am friends with the biggest expert on Bombers and i can ask him about it (if it is rare he will pay top $).
22:13 Poe’s Blurpee
22:32 Paw Paw Pikie (economy line)
That’s awesome info thank you. If your friend is interested in the Bomber I’ll sell it to him. My email is anglingarchaeology@gmail.com or the link is in the bio. He can also reach out on Instagram
That’s really cool to learn about the Dingbat color (and the name) I noticed another similar one go for pretty good money. That’s one I’ll keep in the collection since it’s so rare and I found it in the “wild” (someone’s collection).
Appreciate the comments thanks for watching
Great archaeological finds.
That last lure with the wire on the lip is a Tru-Temper “Crippled Shad.” I’ve always wondered how the wire is supposed to be used on those.
The one with the PAC Man eyes is a Poe’s “Blurpee.”
The frog color minnow bait looks like a Paw Paw series 1600 “Pike Minnow.” It certainly has the Paw Paw style combination lip and front hook hanger, tack eyes and paint color scheme.
The frog pattern darter type lure looks like a Paw Paw series 9200 “Darter.” It could also be a Shakespeare after they bought Paw Paw. The flat bottom and the paint job seem to be the tells on this one.
The oddball tail prop lure that you say looks like a cartoon whale is an Immell/Chippewa “Instant Bass.”
The one you say “how do I not know what this is” and wonder if it’s a Burke (the one with a tack in the rear and L style hook hangers) is a Bomber “Jerk.”
Sorry, I have no idea what the burgundy and black crankbait is. Good luck on your quest to find out.
Dang! I should have you on the show haha! Awesome info! Thank you!!
@@anglingarchaeology, LOL, I admittedly had to reference a few as I had ideas of what they were but don’t know specifics like series numbers off the top of my head. The Paw Paw Pike Minnow and Darter were fairly obvious to me as PP are one of the most intriguing of the older bait companies to me so I’m somewhat familiar with many of them. The Bomber and Tru-Temper are lures I am familiar with and I had forgotten the name of the Poe’s and Immell although I had seen both but couldn’t remember their names. Those Poe’s eyes are a dead giveaway. Not sure how I could forget a name like Blurpee.
I didn't see anyone identify the black and red bait. It was made by Orchard Industries and it is called the "Bottom Scratcher". Yes, that is the real name!
Thanks Mark. I actually made a video about the lure. ruclips.net/video/IZCaPWOFO9Q/видео.htmlfeature=shared
I wonder if that one in the middle, frog pattern, next to the gumby whale lure, is a Creek Chub Darter? I think that last one might be a True Temper Shad lure. Will have to give them a look again later.
The second one, frog pattern, with the tack eyes might be a Paw Paw pikie minnow.
I second the bait with the wire lip is a True temper
That Creek Chub Darter could also be a Paw Paw Darter.
I think the bottom left lure, the first one you picked up in the bottom row on the far left, might be a Wright and McGill Bug-a-Boo.
True Temper Speed Shad?
