How is it I can watch people in these skits get blown up, ripped open, or disfigured, but a dude forcing himself to eat hair is when my gag reflex's kick in?
Our brain simulates the thoughts and feelings of others in order to predict and empathise with them (mirror neurons). We watched real hair in someone's real mouth, and it's easy to put ourselves in that situation and therefore empathise. Cartoonish violence is obviously fake, and makes us detach emotionally. Also, I bet there is a bias in what types of violent or gross stuff we see that really gets our mirror neurons firing.
Probably because there's the implication that it's more than just Sushi with hair in it. It probably contains body parts or something.

They are not connected. Every time watching new vid, imagine nothing happened before.
If they live in a world where you can just stuff sushi ingredients into the box of a cheaply-made (but expensively sold) machine available from an infomercial and it comes out as a (hairy) roll, then perhaps they also have finely-tuned medical devices that can fix a hand good as new.
Bill was a chef who gave a child food-poisoning, then was hit by a delivery truck and died. Now he's in hell on Satan's favorite daytime infomercial, and every time something awful happens, he wakes back up in the studio like nothing happened... At least, that's my theory.

Maybe Bill is some poor bastard trapped by some demigod or a powerful angry reality bender to forever make bad infomercials and has to act along no matter how fucked up things get either because he is unable to not do so or because if he doesn't go along with things he will be tortured in ways too heinous to even imagine? I mean his hand injury from the knife episode having disappeared without as much as a scar makes me think whatever is forcing him to do these things is able to fix him no matter how badly he gets damaged and possibly could take him apart piece by piece and just reassemble good as new but with his memories of the experience intact, that sort of thing would make having your hand cut up or eating some hair etc seem preferable by comparison... Although the idea of being full conscious of what's happening but not being able to stop yourself from doing this shit could be even more hellish, especially because of the thought of what they might force on you next...

OK, love your videos, and I can watch anything... dismemberment, beheading, whatever, without blinking an eye...but this one made me retch a little bit....
Yeah, I can stand seeing soldiers in the Vietnam war having gore ripped out of them and placed on a skinless person as armor without even getting disgusted, but when I see a wad of hair sticking out of sushi I get grossed out.
I think why this works so well, is that we can all relate to having that awful feeling when we are eating and we get a piece of hair! I actually nearly didn't watch the chewing part of this video, as I knew the feeling of it was approaching.. love these videos!

This is so unsettling. Like it wasn’t straight up horror, but the woman’s expressions, the visuals of him trying to choke back the hair sushi (ugh!), and the tense, warped music combined with the flickering of the tape...
I feel somehow cursed after viewing this. 10/10.
