Thank you very much for answering my question on the live show, Sifu Alex! Unfortunately in Europe, where I live, it was late night so I couldn’t stay longer to thank you live. 🙏🤙
It really seems to be a virtually impossible task, now that you mentioned it (the possibility of having Dan Inosanto joining your podcast). Regardless of how much we know you are some of the few honest Bruce Lee fans out there, we do not seem to be the majority, unfortunately.

Another great podcast,KFG. Hopefully you can interview a fellow Scotsman, Tommy Carruthers, some day. As for the person saying that you do too much Bruce Lee. Simple, don't watch the podcast if you don't like it. You can't get enough of Bruce Lee,that's for sure. Yet,it's great to get your honesty on Bruce. Yeah he was human, and nobody is perfect. But... Nobody can deny the way Bruce ,took the world by storm. No question about it,that Bruce was a phenomenon. Anyway KFG,all the best from Bonnie Scotland.

Fist of Fury is Bruce Lee regarding battle cries but the original North American version of Return Of The Dragon on 35mm film, VHS/Beta, Laser Disc and DVD has battle cries which may be another person doing an impression. Only in the 90s did I finally see the original Way Of The Dragon and hear Bruce's actual battle cries. I was informed by a special feature in the Hong Kong Legends Box set or a magazine article that when Way Of The Dragon was released as Return Of The Dragon in 1974, they decided to cut certain scenes like eating soup at the airport and re-record his battle cries. Apparently the audio quality was bad or something was technically off. For all I know Bruce did both versions in 1972??
Would love to know for sure before I die!!! I went 20 years thinking Returns battle cries were Bruce only to hear Way Of The Dragon sounding more like the Bruce we know from Fist Of Fury and Enter The Dragon.
Now Game Of Death is an imitator doing an over the top impression Including the Way Of The Dragon moments they edited in. Unless it's The Warriors Journey extended cut of Bruce Lee's actual footage. They carefully mixed in audio of Bruce from Enter The Dragon and Fist Of Fury. Not sure if anything from Way Of The Dragon was used? Japanese cuts of this Bruce footage did the same. The Big Boss had no real Bruce battle cries when released in North America as Fists Of Fury. I know newer versions of The Big Boss have borrowed battle cries from Enter The Dragon and Fist Of Fury. I wish the people still alive who know would settle all of this definitively before all of us die!! This is just one reason John Little should be on again. :)

It'd be great to see you interview Andy and Brian Le from Martial Club. It would be great to hear a discussion of their influences and how they took the clear history of Hong Kong cinema and then bring it into a 21st century context. I think they're also self taught so would be a great conversation about how they developed their skills and cinematic awareness.

So, I know that the Lee/Norris fight was not shot in the Coliseum from WOTD but aren't there scenes of Bruce running through the Coliseum before he and Colt crossed paths?? I've been in the Coliseum and didn't Bruce shoot some scenes walking and running inside the Coliseum?? Very cool!!

Yes, Bruce filmed in Rome before returning to Hong Kong to film the internal / fight scenes. Steve Kerridge’s “Legends of the Dragon” documents the making of WOTD almost day to day. It’s out of print now but I’m hoping Steve is updating / re-releasing it soon…

Is it important or necessary to learn and give the directions and names of the skills or movements in the original language of the martial art style, if I don’t know or can’t say front kick or high punch or low block in Korean in TKD class or in Japanese in karate class, does that mean I’m not good in that style or can’t get the next belt

In training martial arts which is more important to do, first slow and precise to get the movement right, then you can add speed or power to your skills later, or flexibility and endurance and your execution of the movements will improve as you keep practicing, or speed first then refining and correcting the techniques later as you go along, or have strong strikes first then work on speed and accuracy
Is warm up and stretching important at the beginning of class and stretching and cool down at the end, or only stretching, only warm up, or only cool down or just stretching at the end, or does it depend on what you’re doing to work on weather you will warm up or stretch or not
Should you stretch first then a warm up or warm up first with easy cardio then stretch, cool down first then stretch or stretch then cool down exercises

When can you tell if you need to stay in what you are doing, even if it’s difficult but maybe you could pass your limits, but maybe it’s your limits for a reason and you’re just hurting your self and maybe need to try something different
How far or how much can a teacher allow for a student to get away with and it’s good enough to pass, even if they can’t do everything the way it’s required for the next level maybe because of age, or skill or others had to go through, maybe their reasons why they can’t are true but maybe they just think they can’t do better

  • @jaypeve
    @jaypeve Год назад +1

I would have figured that it would be easier to go from one striking style to another because of some similarities, first you have some experience so it would be easier and maybe faster in the new art cause you don’t need to learn how to make a proper fist, to chamber the knee to kick then bring it back after the kick, to keep the wrist straight when you punch, you might be flexible and endurance and fast because of your training at the other school, they may be different in when or how or where to hit, but somethings you can learn in karate they also do in Taekwondo or Tukong or Kajukenbo and others, weather it’s with a closed fist or open hand, straight or circular, to the body or face,
They have a front kick, side kick, back kick, ax kick, roundhouse, crescent and hook kick, twist kick, question mark kick and scorpion kick,
You have high blocks, low blocks, inside and outside blocks,
Similarly got front punch, hammer fist, reverse punch, hook, uppercut, cross and jab, open hand strike or palm strike, chop or knife hand, back fist
    Knee and elbow strikes
Wax on wax off is outside block, sand the floor is low block, paint the house side to side is inside block and outside block, paint the fence up down is high block low block, crane kick is jumping front snap kick
Tornado kick is a roundhouse kick or crescent kick with twist or turns right before you execute the kick

What would be your advice for dealing with bullying
This probably happens more often with kids, but what if there is a student who is naturally good with the techniques but has a bad attitude and sometimes late, is not always ready with their equipment needed for class, sometimes doesn’t show up, but very flexible and fast, does the moves great, do they pass to the next rank because they’ve been there a long time but just have an attitude problem, or hold them back, what about a student the opposite, he or she tries hard, practice at home, is respectful but have trouble understanding somethings and kicks or blocks are not executed well, is it just good enough and they pass or try to have them practice longer until they get it
Some parents just drop off kids to class like it’s a day care and think the teacher is going to teach them manners and respect or things like that, sure character building and respect are part of the experience but it’s not ethics class, it’s not boot camp, it’s learning defense, to block, kick and punch someone, self control to when, how, if or why to use or not use your skills, but not necessarily teach on how to behave

I think Bruce died of a combination of things, extra stress, not having much fat content, the workout to be the best, staying up working on the movies, drugs, I heard he was trying different workout supplements and diets or protein shakes and like power bars or different things for muscle like creatine powder, the pain pill he took,
Oh yeah and let’s not forget “the 10 ninjas hired by the triads that did the dim mak on him and not having sweat glands”

I used to think JKD was the first hybrid mixed martial art, but I believe Bruce was born around 1940,
Kajukenbo was created around 1940 in Hawaii, so Bruce would have been a child, before he created JKD, Kajukenbo is a mix of KArate, Judo/Jiujitsu, KENpo, and Boxing/Chinese boxing, created by I think four or five black belts in these arts,
And I heard TKD is a mix of Karate and Taekkyon, and I’ve heard Tukong Moosul is also a mixed art, I wonder if there’s other mixed martial arts now considered traditional or original just because they’re not used much in MMA, so JKD is probably not the first hybrid mixed art, am I correct in this assumption?
