I don't think JCVD had the head bump in Bloodsport. He must have had some head injury sometime after that. Tom Cruise was in braces a several years ago to correct that tooth alignment thing. His teeth look pretty normal now. Bruce Lee has the same alignment issue with his teeth as Tom Cruise, with one of his front teeth being in the middle of his face. Once you see that you'll never unsee it. Bruce was also missing one or two upper side teeth. You can see it in photos where he is laughing.

here's another myth busters. I'm Chinese guy that did do martial arts and competed in the sport karate circuit (point karate tournaments, i.e. NASKA) There were a few other Chinese guys on tournament circuit but none of them did Kung - Fu. Vast majority of Chinese competitors were practitioners of Tae Kwon do or Japanese styles of Karate. In my case I am Chinese that grew up in NYC. I was a professional dojo owner for many years and competed in point karate tournament circuit. But my background is in Okinawan Karate and Kobudo. I never studied Chinese martial arts. I had a few friends (fellow tournament competitors) that were Kung-Fu guys. But they were White, Spanish or African American. No Chinese, the few Chinese competitors that did compete were practitioners of Korean, Japanese or Okinawan martial arts. Not Kung-Fu, believe it or not. This was in the 1980's

I’m afraid I’m sitting with the KFG on this with regard to Bruce Lee’s death and although I’m open to changing my opinions or beliefs when or if new evidence comes to light - Bruce Lee contributed to his own death and (in my opinion which means nothing) he wasn’t really the person he portrayed himself to be. It’s a shame really, mainly for the Bruce Lee fans but then again, I was never a fan and never bought into the idea he was this great, outstanding fighter or martial artist. Once again - enjoying these podcasts.

Kung Fu Genius, question about the behind the scenes/backstage ETD footage where Bruce is shirtless and sparring around with a younger guy. The younger guy is wearing a casual martial arts style uniform and imitating Bruce’s mannerisms slightly. It’s only a short few moments clipped together which never made it into the film. It almost looks like the hall of mirrors room but I can’t remember. (The footage is on RUclips but hard to find).
    1) Was this filmed after the opening fight scene with Sammo, or before?

The first time I saw Way of the Dragon it was titled Return of the Dragon, it was the English dubbed version, cause I don’t speak Chinese so I don’t understand it and with subtitles sometimes they go fast so I have to rewind it and pause it to read, then rewind it to watch the action, very annoying to try to read and try to watch what’s happening, anyway it didn’t have the scene where he tried to order eggs in the restaurant but got a lot of soup, I was wondering why he was always going to the bathroom, also it didn’t have the scene where he’s in the apartment with that woman that took him and he started throwing punches and kicks in front of the mirror, or the scene where he goes to the bathroom in the restaurant and a guy is looking at him weird cause he’s standing on the toilet, anyway since they were all speaking English I thought that on the times Bruce was talking to the main boss and told the other guy to let him know or tell him, “leave this school alone!”(yes I know that’s from his other movie Fist of Fury/Chinese Connection)I thought it was a situation like when there’s two people that used to get along and now they don’t so they have another person in between, and even if they speak in the same language and loud in the same room, they still use the mediator, “tell him this and that” “ Oh yeah well tell her this that and the other” like an interpreter, I didn’t think he wanted him to translate, in movies I know Christopher Columbus and the Natives were not speaking English in reality, it’s just in the movie translated to understand the plot and story, so in the original Way of the Dragon if Bruce was speaking Chinese, since they were in Rome we’re the others speaking the Roman language, what is it Italian or Latin

I think that Diana Lee Inosanto hit the nail on the head. Before (and in many cases, since) Bruce Lee, most of the portrayals of Asian men in movies/TV were basically the equivalent of a bunch of Asian Mr. Beans. People may have latched onto new stereotypes after Bruce Lee, but he helped challenge a lot of the much worse stereotypes out there about Asian dudes.

Too many lies told by Linda and Raymond Chow. On the day Bruce died, only Bruce and Linda were at their Hong Kong home, where were the children, Wu Ngan and the 2 families who lived there? They all were out because Bruce was in an horrendous rage. Linda phoned Raymond Chow to come over to help her, NOT to work on the Game Of Death script, but to deal with Bruce. Chow came over then Linda left. Chow then took Bruce a mile down the road to the apartment of Betty Ting Pei.
Remember the premiere of Enter The Dragon was coming up in a few days. Soon after the Lee family were due to go to America, Bruce was booked on the Johnny Carson show. Meetings were planned with Warner Brothers for future projects.

Unfortunately, Hong Kong is not invulnerable to provincial attitudes about Chinese martial arts. The fact that someone is from Hong Kong, regardless of their vocation, doesn’t mean that anything that comes out of their mouth about martial arts is remotely based on truth, experience, or reality.

I have a hypothesis about the bump on the forehead. Perhaps after a long Winter's break of not training double nunchaku, on the first nice, warm day of Spring, he excitedly went outside to train and attempted to pick up the nunchaku technique with the same speed and intensity as he left off with the previous Fall, after a Summer''s worth of practice. He got to the part where the right hand foreward figure eight and the left hand reverse figure eight are both spinning and to his horror, saw the left hand nunchaku coming towards his head, seemingly in slow motion. In his mind he says, "oh, sh*t, its going to hit me", and then white stars explode before his eyes as a dark curtain closes, only slowly reopening to more stars and a throbbing pain on the forehead. Reaching up with one hand, he finds and egg sized bump on his forehead and what appears to be ketchup on his hand.... It's just a guess. Don't ask what made me think of it.

@@TheKungFuGenius Actually, it is not the liquid that is the problem, it is simply the symptom of a problem with the kidneys. But who knows, we are trying to figure out something that happened in 1973. I was but over a month old back then... So I couldn't remember, LOL

I think Golden Bell is Beardy, but portraying a more “realistic” type of fan… I caught it right when he started his videos. By the way, you are correct about the short videos on RUclips and that the people who already have created names for themselves are able to break that pattern. For example, I was the first person to upload a video of doing one-hand-two-finger push ups and I accumulated about 1.5 million views in no time, just because I used Bruce Lee’s name in the title, in order to describe the type of push ups I was doing! Either way, I keep following your podcast as I grew up as a martial arts fanatic (sadly, I only practiced Kung Fu for about six months, because fate had me be heavily involved with tennis) and I love the fact that you know the subject and don’t just make up a bunch of nonsense! Cheers!

1:04:10 I put up some new #kungfu on my site this week. I get excited about all of it, but I try to save the best for you guys. My stuff up today I’m proud of. No blocking. Even though FOOK and BONG are my favorite. It’s all hits. That’s what the JKD PEOPLE want so.... we do two handed hitting with push stepping on each beat. 😂

Did anyone else see Micheal Jaí white on Vlad TV talking about Bruce lee was not a real fighter? And that he would bet on Jackie Chan beating Bruce lee in a fight

The real tragedy is paying attention to anything MJW says.

True. I did ask myself this question tho. Does Bruce lee have more fighting experience than jackie Chan that we know of? I don’t know enough about Jackie Chans real fighting experience so I cannot answer this question. But according to some Hong Kong fighters and actors Bruce Lee was really bout that life.

Again, the problem is even entertaining these thought experiments. They don’t make anyone any better at anything. If Jackie could beat Bruce, what does this knowledge do for you?

Nice episode and great questions- Mr. Van Damme should have used those moves from "Breakin" in the movie "Kick Boxer." Couldn't tell if he had that bump in 'Breakin."
