i know right? I have to spend time watching videos just to have an idea. You'd think with Bethesda making building the centerpiece of their game, they might want to provide a guide.
I have played fallout 4 since 2016 from xbox to pc and just came across this video for vault 88 because i hated wires running though out my entire vault, I have just beared witness to the biggest oopsie poopsie moment of my entire life, i never knew this.
Lol I was beginning to wonder if I had to do that also, thanks for saving me 2 hours of trial and error. Also showing me where I was getting 150 power from, that had me puzzled too.
Cheers man, this is a really big help, the only problem is having to start my vault over because I was wiring everything through conduits like a chump. Nevertheless, it's good that people are willing to fill the gaps the game won't. You're a lifesaver man.
Thank god for you, friendly neighborhood Oxhorn, 'cause I was connecting the reactor with conduits and wires across every room... I knew there was something more to it. Thanks, man!
I figured out why power might not be working through the vault conduits. This solution only works if you're on PC and you have this problem. Toggle freecam and look underneath the vault reactor. The devs wired these hidden conduits underneath the map all the way to the unscrappable atrium hall piece which also has a conduit underneath it. I assume they did this because there's no actual way to seamlessly let wire pass through the walls with the current engine, so they lie about it and hide the wires out of sight. Pretty sneaky of them. Anyway, these conduits are called "Starter Power Conduits" which means they can't be scrapped, and if they can't be scrapped, you shouldn't use mods to scrap them. All you have to do is toggle collisions (tcl in console) and find a way to wire up the conduits underneath the map in a way that they are hidden (for cosmetic purposes) if they aren't wired correctly, or if a conduits missing in the grid. If everything is wired correctly and you're still not getting power, I'd check to make sure the first piece you put down is correctly snapped to the unscrappable atrium piece. If you scrap it, you won't be able to get power from the Vault 88 reactor. If you did somehow mess up the flow of power from the reactor to the atrium piece, your only other option is to place down one of the generators that comes with Vault-Tec Workshop. You'll have to deal with having an abnormally high power number, which may mess up the balance in some settlement mods like Sim Settlements.
Ok, so I had a BIG problem, which I hope you don't have. I moved the starter corridor for the vault, which is normally unmovable unless you press the "insert" button, which enables moving/scrapping of a small amount of additional objects like rubble or skeletons. What I didn't realize is the whole vault is actually powered by an underground set of connectors connected to the starting generator. Underground, there's a conductor called "starter conduit," which can ONLY connect to the starter corridor, and it snaps to it underneath the base of the corridor. If you move the starter corridor, it severs the connection. However, with TCL, you can actually float through the ground and repair this broken connection. Not only that, but you can reposition the starter corridor anywhere around the entrance, and it will work fine, as long as you place the corridor first, and the starter conduit underneath it second.
I was just watching one of your videos about Synth Mythbusting whilst working on my vault, googled how to wire it up and got brought straight back to your channel :P
Oh my GOD! Thank you SO much, I was completely lost on this front. And I know this looks suspiciously like a trolling post, but I honestly could not possibly be more serious. Now I have to get back in the game, so I can do this Vault building thing right (as opposed to the way I actually used, making little standard generators everywhere...ugh).
Great info. I've finally decided to build something in 88. I just build a reactor on top of a three story structure in the main room, but I couldn't get the short conduit towers to place because invisible clipping with the rock ceiling.
yeah I did everything right but parts of my place still wouldn’t power on. I even picked up my reactor and dropped it in different places. but a few sections refused to work until I ran wires on the outer shell of the building. at least you cant see them from the inside.
I just logged to put you a like. You know how to demonstrate stuff fast and quick without doing abnoxious 20 minutes videos to explain a simple thing. Thank you!
thanks for the vid, wish I found it ages ago, when this dlc first came out i got so frustrated with my noobish attempts to power my grand vault failing that i scrapped the lot and just went for a "settlement in a cave" type layout with lots of un-powered oil type lighting/candles. now I'm tempted to start all over again just to build the big vault i wanted to back then.
Oh my god. I wish I'd known this ages ago. I've been struggling and struggling trying to get crap wired up in my vault. Such a mess until I found this.
Out of all the videos I watched on this, your simple explanation made the most sense. It earned you a like and sub. I'm also sending the link to my Fallout 4 group so they won't need me to explain it. Thank!
I've found it useful to use the Track Lights to brighten up my atrium. They attach to both walls, floor and ceiling, depending on which ones you use, so the Bottom, Mid and Top atrium pieces are all covered. But honestly - big rooms usually *use* a billion lights, even in real life. The trick is fiddling with it, I guess. I've also dedicated sections of my atrium to certain activities, such as lounging, games (pool table and Blast Radius etc), and the cafeteria's "outdoor" dining area, and lit each accordingly, as opposed to having an enormous unfilled empty space, which is a bitch to light up. You could also try stuffing some support beams in there and attaching lights to those. Depending on your video settings (mine're kinda low), I've noticed a sort of foggy underground dimness that is just prevalent in Vault 88's expansive caves, no matter where you are, so you might wanna check to see if it's that before you try a million things in your settlement and waste your time.
Oh my God, I wish I found and watched this many hours ago before I spent hours making wires throughout my complex. And here I thought you had to do it via the power conduits from the gear-symbol Workshop DLC.
I discovered that Vault 88 has a second exit. You have go rather deep into the tunnels... but eventually you will find a ladder that goes to a manhole cover near to Milton General Hospital. Damn.. that is huge distance from the main Vault 88 entrance.
Baskirk .Brecher Thank you. Maybe you already discovered this... but uncovering the new exit(s) creates new spawn points from which enemies will attack Vault 88.
Baskirk .Brecher Indeed.. that I got attacked from the Milton Hospital entrance at the same time as the main entrance took me totally by surprise. I had zero defences on the Milton entrance way. My defences killed the raiders at the main entrance with ease. I come down to main area of Vault 88 only to find it swarming with raiders including one in power armor.
Holy crap! I havent been attacked yet. Now im looking forward to it when i get around to playing it next. Its gotta be hard to build a good defense at the massive water pump as those huge pipes obstruct some otherwise good building space. Maybe ill just go with turrets and some security stations after 88s radio beacon brings in a few more settlers. I have plenty of armaments saved up to equip them in since the dlc didnt include vault 88 security armor
Wish I bothered looking this up earlier. Before I even started building I looked up brief descriptions of most of the new stuff, but didn't realize what it meant. Figured it meant it was the same as the normal conduits. Would've saved a TON of copper, plus it wouldn't have been such a pain getting power from my multiple reactors, including the one it comes with. I was able to hide most of it fairly well, and the new style that came with the contraptions DLC was great for this despite its cost.
hey just a heads up in case you didn't know if your wanting to power a vault room that is not connected by floor or wall to a vault generator, say you wanted to build an above ground vault room, you can use the wall pass through conduit and attach it to the vault power conduit. it looks a little Jerry rigged but it works pretty well.
I started to make an above ground vault in SH, and it's nice but I think I'll scrap and just do regular homey type homes. I like building different based on the location. Sanctuary is a comfy home, Redrocket is my trade hub, hangman ally is a boobytrapped player safehouse, county crossing is a fortified outpost. OutpostZ is a fortified outpost/recruitment center/synth filtration base The farms are farms.. and spectacle Island, the manor and the drive in are what I've been stockpiling my resources for
i just can't connect the vault parts to the main floor that's connected to the power supply, they just don't "snap", so there's always a tiny little gap between each room 😩
My problem is that I can't seem to get power in the main vault area. Where the vault door and security office is. I can't snap a conduit into the wall or anything like that.
Well hell, now all those conduits on the floor I've been running seem kinda stupid. Had them nice and snapped to the floor grid, too. Thanks for the video this will be very helpful!
the problem is getting the power to work through stairs or wide hallways .I have 999 power at the starting point where you meet julian.however unless I make more power at the water pump I can't get it to transfer down the wide hallway which then leads to stairs
everything is connected for me and I'm still not able to generate power. I even put a normal generator down attached it to a conduit and it still didn't power any lights. I think my game is just fucked.
+Pack Ice yeah I figured out my issue. the main reactor or power source that comes with Vault 88 is damaged and I can't repair it for some reason. so I placed one down in my vault and I'm all good now. thanks for the help though!!
Just a quick question (s) ......how to run lighting in halls/wide/utility/domestic/staircases??? Every article seems to cover basic electric. In your video, you indicate ok to ask you questions. TY in advance.
Hi, I tried connecting or snapping one of those vault conduits directly to a wall in vault 88 that was also one of the main exterior walls on that vault but it wouldn't snap in place. at all. will I have to add walls and floors to it in order for the conduit to be snapped in/mounted?
Oxhorn i recommend doing a video showing off the vault tec special bonuses (Use the overseers terminal for a int boost for example). There seems to be one for every special stat but you can only have 1 active at a time (if you have the int boost and get the luck boost from the slot machine then the int boost disepears).
+Shaunagh Mulhall Yeah that's what I'm playing on. You'd think Security armour would be an obvious thing but nah :\ ah well. They'll add some new bits maybe? I hope so anyways.
+Cezere Lecrucio You reckon you'd be able to craft it. Come on now. We can create a fully operational vault but Vault armour is off the cards? They obviously forgot about it is all.
Am I the only who used normal wall conduits and floor conduits Tomane use of the free generator you have at the start because the vault ones wouldn't attach to the walls of the premade parts
Have you come up with a method to get power to the gate room? I thought if I snapped in a reactor to the atrium that it would feed through the floor to the gate. It doesn't, so I'm lacking power for fun items there.
As a warning to anyone looking around madly why their vault isn't working like this... I think the "scrapall" command from the console deletes some kind of hidden conduits in the entrance area. I did that really early on, and it's just not working for me, and that's the only thing I can think of that might've done it.
What if I want to do this OUTSIDE Vault 88? I know that I'd need a Vault-Tec reactor to make the power run through the walls BUT I don't require that much power, so my question is: Is there anyway to connect exterior power to the Vault walls?
My Vault 88 is rather ugly but functions. I’ve started building an above ground vault on Spectacle Island. After building a Reactor Room I found I can’t get power down the wide corridors as the vault conduits will not snap to the walls. Any ideas?
Welp. All of my stuff is connected via that first access tunnel, it's all from the vault structures, and nothing has power. So I still don't understand it I guess.
Little fun fact if anyone reads that: I have been using conduit pipes from the generator to the big halls because I didnt know the vault power conduit exist... I didnt even know that it can also power lights already
Have you tried/is there any way to spread power to the Wide Hallways? (The red engine room looking pieces that are double sized) I can't seem to connect any power connectors to the walls and I'd rather just scrap that shit if it doesn't work right then rig up generators and wiring.
Thanks. I used the console to clip through the floor and seen that all the floors are wired to the reactor underneath. I been trying to figure out how to use it
I know it's a late question, but can i use this power conduits in other settlements? or do they only work in vault props? because lets face it, the conduits are not good
The problem is not getting power from snapped Atrium floors but passing that power through other room type doorways. Even when the "other room type" doors, such as an "overseer door", are properly snapped to an Atrium door end cap, a vault power conduit placed inside the overseer room does not work. It is a bug, not a tutorial issue.
I guess its not possible to hook up a super reactor this way? but if i placed down another of the reactor we get in the vault and connect it to the floor will it provide additional power that way or would i have to wire it up?
hpw do you get this thing to power the walls of other vault structures like the room parts and halls, it seems like this only works for the atrium walls and floor parts
I know this was 6 years ago. But when I try to partition my atrium to domestic or utility and it’s connected to the floor. The power conduits don’t connect some way. Maybe it’s a bug? Or how do you transition properly through the floor from atrium to domestic to utility or to commons.
I tried building a stand alone building with a vault tec reactor connected through a mix of utility, domestic, and overseer office pieces. Power works near the reactor with the wall conduits but not every where. Is there a known issue with mixing vault tec wall, floor pieces?
7 years and this video is still saving asses. Thanks mate.
Same here!! I was tired of waiting for a vault instruction manual to pop up
I can't believe they didn't include an in-game tutorial for this!
Three years later, I just found out how to make them work.
Just saying xD
Shithole company development.
i know right? I have to spend time watching videos just to have an idea. You'd think with Bethesda making building the centerpiece of their game, they might want to provide a guide.
@@talscorner3696 I just find out
It doesn’t work
Cannot express how much headache your video solved in my vault. Thank you so much.
Bethesda really dropped the ball on this one. No tutorial, convoluted system, and I had to use RUclips to figure it all out.
It made me stop playing fo4
Ah yes forcing you to.. role play.
1000 hours in game and this is the first time learning about this piece of kit. Top job on the explanation mate.
I have played fallout 4 since 2016 from xbox to pc and just came across this video for vault 88 because i hated wires running though out my entire vault, I have just beared witness to the biggest oopsie poopsie moment of my entire life, i never knew this.
I spent like an hour putting power conduits all along the ceiling and walls and connecting wires, and I could have just done this? Shit.
Me too man. Me too. :(
Haha! I almost did that to. But, decided there had to be an easier way and thankfully found this video.
I did the same fucking thing
You'd think there'd be some sort of in-game tutorial for this stuff.
THE BURDEN OF VAULT BUILDING IS TOO MUCH FOR ROLF
Finished playing 3 and NV after I watched the show and am now going back to 4 and this video has been a lifesaver. God bless.
Seeing a 4 minute Oxhorn video? Impossible.
I've never been so grateful in my life omg I was about to hand wire the whole entire vault it would've taken days!
You're welcome!
Lol I was beginning to wonder if I had to do that also, thanks for saving me 2 hours of trial and error. Also showing me where I was getting 150 power from, that had me puzzled too.
Usefull af. like Iraida said, I was about to wire the whole vault, not knowing the vault power conduit purpose
...I've hand wired every run through...so much wasted copper...
Cheers man, this is a really big help, the only problem is having to start my vault over because I was wiring everything through conduits like a chump. Nevertheless, it's good that people are willing to fill the gaps the game won't. You're a lifesaver man.
8 years later and this video just saved my whole vault on my 4th play through. Thanks for the save.
There seems to be a range limit.
Thank you SO MUCH. I was about to take my entire vault apart because I thought I’d messed up- so glad I saw this first!
Thank god for you, friendly neighborhood Oxhorn, 'cause I was connecting the reactor with conduits and wires across every room... I knew there was something more to it. Thanks, man!
It really helps to look at videos like this before fumbling around and guessing how things work.
I figured out why power might not be working through the vault conduits. This solution only works if you're on PC and you have this problem. Toggle freecam and look underneath the vault reactor. You sir, are a wizard!
Wow 8 years later and this just helped me IMMENSELY 🙌🏾
Thanks for this video dude! Total lifesaver. I thought it was gonna be a pain in the ass powering up my vault, but this made it 100x easier.
We found out (yes we did)
We found out (they couldn't keep it hid)
We found out (now we know)
How Vault floors power the console
Ok, so I had a BIG problem, which I hope you don't have. The electrical system confuses me so much, your video was so helpful! Straight to the point and straight forward. Nice video!
Thanks for posting this. This should have been one of the missions.
for me the vault power conduit only emits power to lights when i connect it to another item that requires power via wires. wtf?

Well all my walls are connected but I still have no power.
Fallout 4 ...
Got to use the conduit to power non vault items. So basically a conduit everywhere you want to use not vault Tec items
John Morrison same but as we all know Bethesda don't bug test their games
yeah I did everything right but parts of my place still wouldn’t power on. I even picked up my reactor and dropped it in different places. but a few sections refused to work until I ran wires on the outer shell of the building. at least you cant see them from the inside.
Dasychain the power conduits from the reactor in an "unbroken" but invisible line. the power jumps from one to the other in line.
thanks for pointing these out, i had no idea they even existed
(and now i spend an hour re-wiring the entire vault >.
I just logged to put you a like. You know how to demonstrate stuff fast and quick without doing abnoxious 20 minutes videos to explain a simple thing. Thank you!
You bet!
Thanks SO much for this! It was really easy to understand and now I am no longer running around in the dark!
I'm glad!
thanks for the vid, wish I found it ages ago, when this dlc first came out i got so frustrated with my noobish attempts to power my grand vault failing that i scrapped the lot and just went for a "settlement in a cave" type layout with lots of un-powered oil type lighting/candles. now I'm tempted to start all over again just to build the big vault i wanted to back then.
Thank!
Thank fuck this guy can explain things simply. Everybody else gives this convoluted shit that never explains anything.
The thing that is getting to me is lighting. Especially in big atrium rooms everything looks dim unless I use a billion lights! Help please Oxhorn?
I thought I might try that, good idea. Just wondered if anyone had any ways without mods as I have so many already!

Making the world safe for Vault-Tec builders since 2016. Thanks Oxhorn ( :
I discovered that Vault 88 has a second exit. You have go rather deep into the tunnels... but eventually you will find a ladder that goes to a manhole cover near to Milton General Hospital. Damn.. that is huge distance from the main Vault 88 entrance.
there's a third exit too that leads to a basement a wee way nw of vault 88. tons of uranium rock to scrap for nuclear material.
Baskirk .Brecher
Thank you.
Maybe you already discovered this... but uncovering the new exit(s) creates new spawn points from which enemies will attack Vault 88.
That i did not know hmmm...thatll change things for me as ive only built my vault in the first area. Gotta think defences now huh?
Baskirk .Brecher
Indeed.. that I got attacked from the Milton Hospital entrance at the same time as the main entrance took me totally by surprise. I had zero defences on the Milton entrance way. Simple & straight foward with great examples, out fucking standing, keep up the great work.
Looks like you have been busy Ox. Even your experimental vault build looks great. Nice job.
Thanks for showing me the vault conduit. I had no idea it existed.
Brilliant - like others here I had ceiling conduits and power lines along the corridors and it was kinda crappy. This is so much better.
Thanks :)
Wish I bothered looking this up earlier. Before I even started building I looked up brief descriptions of most of the new stuff, but didn't realize what it meant. Figured it meant it was the same as the normal conduits.

love the video, really useful. thanks. Vault Tec Workshop is probably the most complicated DLC of all
Thanks for this upload. Very short and simple. Helpful and to the point.
Bro, thank you for this video! Ive been running wires like a fool for days!
OutpostZ is a fortified outpost/recruitment center/synth filtration base
The farms are farms.. and spectacle Island, the manor and the drive in are what I've been stockpiling my resources for
For anyone like me who has never used conduit and assumed it was part of the wall, it is actually located under power > connectors and switches.
Thanks! I figured that there had to be alternative to stringing wires throughout the vault, especially since no other vault has wires everywhere!
So helpful! Would never have figured it out. Many thanks!
The wall pass-through conduit works with the vault walls too!
i just can't connect the vault parts to the main floor that's connected to the power supply, they just don't "snap", so there's always a tiny little gap between each room 😩
Thanks for the video, hope you keep making videos to help break down the new stuff!
You bet, I will!
My problem is that I can't seem to get power in the main vault area. Where the vault door and security office is. I can't snap a conduit into the wall or anything like that.
You save my ass 7 years later !! :D
I know this is old but thankkkk you SOOOOO much!
Well hell, now all those conduits on the floor I've been running seem kinda stupid. Had them nice and snapped to the floor grid, too. Thanks for the video this will be very helpful!
the problem is getting the power to work through stairs or wide hallways .I have 999 power at the starting point where you meet julian.however unless I make more power at the water pump I can't get it to transfer down the wide hallway which then leads to stairs

the lights have to be with in the conduits radius try place more of them or moving the light close to the one you have already placed
+Pack Ice yeah I figured out my issue. the main reactor or power source that comes with Vault 88 is damaged and I can't repair it for some reason. so I placed one down in my vault and I'm all good now. thanks for the help though!!
did you try repairing the the cycle that Clem blew up that might be why the power didn't reset if just deleted it
I repaired the cycle
thanks oxhorn! Looking forward to seeing your completed vault!
Thanks Oxhorn! Had no idea how to get power through my vault lol
Just a quick question (s) ......how to run lighting in halls/wide/utility/domestic/staircases??? Every article seems to cover basic electric. In your video, you indicate ok to ask you questions. TY in advance.
Oxhorn you have over complicated it, "It just works".
The things I would like to see in a Vault Tec Update if possible:Wheelchairs, Gurneys, IV stands and oxygen carts for the Clinic.
Very, very helpful video. Kind of sad I learned more from your video than I did from the game
Hi, I tried connecting or snapping one of those vault conduits directly to a wall in vault 88 that was also one of the main exterior walls on that vault but it wouldn't snap in place. at all. will I have to add walls and floors to it in order for the conduit to be snapped in/mounted?

Anyone know if Vault 88 Security Armour is even in the game? How can Bethesda forget the security armour! :'(
They have forgot so much tbh, everyone's saying use mods but when you're on ps4 you kinda can't, pretty disappointed
+Shaunagh Mulhall Yeah that's what I'm playing on. You'd think Security armour would be an obvious thing but nah :\ ah well. They'll add some new bits maybe? I hope so anyways.
Vault 88 was never a finished vault. So.
+Cezere Lecrucio You reckon you'd be able to craft it. Come on now. We can create a fully operational vault but Vault armour is off the cards? They obviously forgot about it is all.
can't you just use console commands for the Armor?
Am I the only who used normal wall conduits and floor conduits Tomane use of the free generator you have at the start because the vault ones wouldn't attach to the walls of the premade parts
I was using that crap, until this guy save the FFing day!!!
What if you have an upstairs? I can’t seem to get my generator (that I built) to connect to any of my rooms.
Have you come up with a method to get power to the gate room? I thought if I snapped in a reactor to the atrium that it would feed through the floor to the gate. It doesn't, so I'm lacking power for fun items there.
is there a way to hook up a switch to open doors in the vault i find it silly i have to look up at the door when it's open to close it
Fantastic video!! Short, clear, coherent. Much appreciated!
As a warning to anyone looking around madly why their vault isn't working like this... I think the "scrapall" command from the console deletes some kind of hidden conduits in the entrance area. I did that really early on, and it's just not working for me, and that's the only thing I can think of that might've done it.
Your fluorescent light never came on.
Same question here.
Thank you!!! I have been trying to figure this out for over two hours
I can't wait to see oxhorn's vault hurt up oxhorn
What if I want to do this OUTSIDE Vault 88? I know that I'd need a Vault-Tec reactor to make the power run through the walls BUT I don't require that much power, so my question is: Is there anyway to connect exterior power to the Vault walls?
A tutorial on wiring- both for Vault Tech and vanilla- would have been super helpful to have from the start.
This video was VERY useful. thank you. I always come to you for answers. they are concise and always clear. thank you
My Vault 88 is rather ugly but functions.
Dude same. Literally did the same thing and nothing happened
How far apart do the Powered Conduit need to be set?
Little fun fact if anyone reads that: I have been using conduit pipes from the generator to the big halls because I didnt know the vault power conduit exist... I didnt even know that it can also power lights already
Have you tried/is there any way to spread power to the Wide Hallways? (The red engine room looking pieces that are double sized) I can't seem to connect any power connectors to the walls and I'd rather just scrap that shit if it doesn't work right then rig up generators and wiring.
Thanks. I used the console to clip through the floor and seen that all the floors are wired to the reactor underneath. I been trying to figure out how to use it
I know it's a late question, but can i use this power conduits in other settlements? or do they only work in vault props? because lets face it, the conduits are not good
loved watching your wow videos years ago. thanks for making video its been helpful building wise.
You bet, thanks for watching!
Thank you for doing what Bethesda didn’t! Subbed.
I just started playing with mods. What electrical mod works best with vanilla Fallout the one that has that wall conduit
thank you good sir for this fine deed ,you have saved a young scallywag like myself plenty of time!
I tried building a stand alone building with a vault tec reactor connected through a mix of utility, domestic, and overseer office pieces. Power works near the reactor with the wall conduits but not every where. Is there a known issue with mixing vault tec wall, floor pieces?
"you're carrying too much and cannot run"
Immediately runs--I need that mod.
It's an in game perk actually. It'll allow you to run and fast travel even though you're carrying too much.
Thanks a lot for this vid Oxhorn. It really helped. Only bad thing is that I put huge conduits all over the top of the vault already. :,( rip me.
