    I figured out why power might not be working through the vault conduits. This solution only works if you're on PC and you have this problem. Toggle freecam and look underneath the vault reactor. The devs wired these hidden conduits underneath the map all the way to the unscrappable atrium hall piece which also has a conduit underneath it. I assume they did this because there's no actual way to seamlessly let wire pass through the walls with the current engine, so they lie about it and hide the wires out of sight. Pretty sneaky of them. Anyway, these conduits are called "Starter Power Conduits" which means they can't be scrapped, and if they can't be scrapped, you shouldn't use mods to scrap them. All you have to do is toggle collisions (tcl in console) and find a way to wire up the conduits underneath the map in a way that they are hidden (for cosmetic purposes) if they aren't wired correctly, or if a conduits missing in the grid. If everything is wired correctly and you're still not getting power, I'd check to make sure the first piece you put down is correctly snapped to the unscrappable atrium piece. If you scrap it, you won't be able to get power from the Vault 88 reactor. If you did somehow mess up the flow of power from the reactor to the atrium piece, your only other option is to place down one of the generators that comes with Vault-Tec Workshop. You'll have to deal with having an abnormally high power number, which may mess up the balance in some settlement mods like Sim Settlements.

    • @sashawolf8432

      I've found it useful to use the Track Lights to brighten up my atrium. They attach to both walls, floor and ceiling, depending on which ones you use, so the Bottom, Mid and Top atrium pieces are all covered. But honestly - big rooms usually *use* a billion lights, even in real life. The trick is fiddling with it, I guess.
      I've also dedicated sections of my atrium to certain activities, such as lounging, games (pool table and Blast Radius etc), and the cafeteria's "outdoor" dining area, and lit each accordingly, as opposed to having an enormous unfilled empty space, which is a bitch to light up. You could also try stuffing some support beams in there and attaching lights to those.
      Depending on your video settings (mine're kinda low), I've noticed a sort of foggy underground dimness that is just prevalent in Vault 88's expansive caves, no matter where you are, so you might wanna check to see if it's that before you try a million things in your settlement and waste your time.

    Ok, so I had a BIG problem, which I hope you don't have. I moved the starter corridor for the vault, which is normally unmovable unless you press the "insert" button, which enables moving/scrapping of a small amount of additional objects like rubble or skeletons. What I didn't realize is the whole vault is actually powered by an underground set of connectors connected to the starting generator.
    Underground, there's a conductor called "starter conduit," which can ONLY connect to the starter corridor, and it snaps to it underneath the base of the corridor. If you move the starter corridor, it severs the connection. However, with TCL, you can actually float through the ground and repair this broken connection. Not only that, but you can reposition the starter corridor anywhere around the entrance, and it will work fine, as long as you place the corridor first, and the starter conduit underneath it second.

  • @lillianwalling9539
    @lillianwalling9539 7 лет назад

    Wish I bothered looking this up earlier. Before I even started building I looked up brief descriptions of most of the new stuff, but didn't realize what it meant. Figured it meant it was the same as the normal conduits.
    Would've saved a TON of copper, plus it wouldn't have been such a pain getting power from my multiple reactors, including the one it comes with. I was able to hide most of it fairly well, and the new style that came with the contraptions DLC was great for this despite its cost.

    hey just a heads up in case you didn't know if your wanting to power a vault room that is not connected by floor or wall to a vault generator, say you wanted to build an above ground vault room, you can use the wall pass through conduit and attach it to the vault power conduit. it looks a little Jerry rigged but it works pretty well.

      Indeed.. that I got attacked from the Milton Hospital entrance at the same time as the main entrance took me totally by surprise. I had zero defences on the Milton entrance way. My defences killed the raiders at the main entrance with ease. I come down to main area of Vault 88 only to find it swarming with raiders including one in power armor.

      Holy crap! I havent been attacked yet. Now im looking forward to it when i get around to playing it next. Its gotta be hard to build a good defense at the massive water pump as those huge pipes obstruct some otherwise good building space. Maybe ill just go with turrets and some security stations after 88s radio beacon brings in a few more settlers. I have plenty of armaments saved up to equip them in since the dlc didnt include vault 88 security armor

    I love all the WoW songs you did, so I was pleasantly surprised that is helpful video was ALSO by you! I just got Fallout 4 two weeks ago and the DLCs on Friday - so still figuring how the vault bits go together. I started off with one of the wide hallway bits with a reactor on top and now need to go back and move everything because it's all half a square off from the entryway tiles

    I tried building a stand alone building with a vault tec reactor connected through a mix of utility, domestic, and overseer office pieces. Power works near the reactor with the wall conduits but not every where. Is there a known issue with mixing vault tec wall, floor pieces?
