- Fallout 4 Tips & Tricks: How to Build a Vault Elevator
A quick tutorial on how to make an elevator inside Vault 88. I originally got the idea from a guy on Twitter (@Bongon69), but it was just the idea, not a tutorial, so I figured out how to build one myself, and I think it turned out pretty nice.

they could at least make a clean version of the elevators that would fit in the vault! but i still like it ty
I wish they had dilapidated vault options so I could have abandoned wings
These really both sound like great ideas for mods...
There's a clean elevator called Institute Elevator if you have "Institute Items Unlocked" and it fits but it is a mother to get the hallways to fit. I have been doing it tonight and will finish it tomorrow hopefully.

to get it to work you need to add a vault floor to the side the conduct is on because vault energy passes through the floor
Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be working for me. :-( I've got an atrium floor right next to the wall where the conduit is (which is on the same side the floor buttons are on) and I cannot get the wire to connect to the elevator at all.
I love your wonderfully clear and concise tutorials. Thank you for showing me how to save some very valuable floor space in my vault builds.
I wish they actually added a vault elevator, but either way this is awesome and what I needed thanks for sharing
THANK YOU!! I've been waiting for someone to figure out how to make this work! You are my hero!
Bless you!!!! I've so needed this, and you taught me a couple tricks I didn't know existed too!!! THANKS!!!
thanks for the idea , sick of having to put stairs and now that i think about it , im surprised i never thought of this kind of thing and keep up the good videos.
The two work arounds: one to use a floor to put the wall on the side of the elevator, and the other on how to get a hallway up there are quite occult and it is very useful information. Thanks. I would never have guessed and if I did I wouldn't have remembered how.
i love you! thank you so much for this i initially had one on the outer perimeter of my atrium that i used only to get to the top where i had placed my reactor this is much more practical and nicer thanks again
I am learning so much from you. Altho the wire glitch would not work for me so ended up doing a wall pass through pipe thing. Plus the raised planter tip blew my mind!
Using your guides I was able to get the idea of how I can build a vault, thanks! I lifted the build cap, and have extended down to the (northwest tunnel, upon just entering the area?), and I've struggling to find more ways to find space. I might add an elevator on the side, change on of the massive utility hallways into a "storage" room with an elevator going up to a third floor. Haha.
The way i did was put the conduit thing like she did on the wall and if your struggling to do the glitch, just move the wall rotate and place the wall some where random near the lift then connect the wires so they are all facing each other then simple rotate the wall backwards to the conduits is facing outwars and then is should be still connected
thanks for the video series building the vault would have been impossible without them. Currently have the base structure & a nice workshop for myself overseer can wait lol
I recently did something similar where instead I used the Maintenance wall caps and floors to do the elevator. Also, a floor piece can be snapped into the elevator bottom.
Thank you for this! Been having issues trying to get things snapping properly!
that looks so much better than i thought it should. even if the elevator is a bit rusty, but hey, lets just say there is a problem with moisture getting in to the elevator shaft
Very informative vid, If i ever decide do build my vault i might use your build to it, my vault is curently an atrium with the experiments and beds for my settlers plus a supply line to use those resources on my other settlements.
first video of yours I've seen. I'm a fan. keep'em coming.
Great Video, Thanks for making it.
I will say I was unable to do the wire trick on pc version and I tried for long time.
Used 2 pieces of conduit and slipped it thru wall worked good thou small connection on outside has to show to connect wire.
Also I left door off elevator as it covers the external floor buttons on outside of elevator.
Thanks again for making it I learn lots off your vid's.
Amazing Idea! although there are some flaws, this includes the "call" button being covered, and any sort of roof or ceiling won't snap to the top of elevators. apart from that, it is a great idea and something that should've been added in the DLC in the first place
Templar the thing is Bethesda is truly lazy sometimes
I really needed this, thank you.
Your the best at explaining things and my new favourite fallout builder :)
For those not getting power to the elevator, place an atrium floor underneath your elevator. Yes it will fit :P
Thank you
Thank you, I was about to give up😭😁
thanks
It dosen't work either.
@@matiasmattera6650 place it to the side
This was incredibly helpful. Thank you.
wow! I feel like a whole new world has opened before my eyes. I see a major revision of my vault in the near future.
josh gillespie lol what
thank you girl, i successfuly learned how to build a vault with your tutorials, ur the best!
i added an elivator to my vault as well.. realy cool i got my overseer office and workshop at the top and a secret drug lab in the basement
FBI agents are looking for u
yeah so iv been trying this damn glitch for over an hour now. I've tried everything an nothing works. every time I pick the wire it comes with me
Did you watch the videos I have linked in the description? They give a more detailed instruction on how to do it.
Im having the same problem:(
@@beatrizlugo3547 I was just having that problem too-if you click on her second link in her desc, watch until the end and try her last suggestion (changing the location of the power conduits). I just did it and got it to work
On the PC, first place an Atrium floor in the spot where W.D. wants you to construct the elevator. Then follow all of her instructions. It seems that the elevator's infrastructure prevents contact between the vault and the Power Conduit. So, the "Wire Glitch" technique is not the problem; it's the lack of power. BTW, use the spacebar to grab the wire.
If you had trouble snapping your walls on after you put the atrium floor under your elevator, try getting your first wall up first, then place the floor tile under the elevator. The rest should snap to that first piece.
Awesome video, well done. And.... you have such a nice voice! I hadn't seen your videos before and wasn't familiar with the wire glitch you mention, but am going to go look now. Subscribing.
Thank you and welcome! :)
That was about how I imagined it might work.. glad to know it will click together. hate that they didn't include an actual elevator that is vault themed.
TY for doing these vids on Vault 88. I suck at building in this game...too much of the "sim city" for me, but I still love the game. Even though FO4's combat AI is much improved, the building is a good added thing from just killing stuff and gathering junk to fix junk.
Subscribed. Huge thank you for this. I wish I was able to build an underground vault elsewhere (other than Vault 88). Such as beneath the Castle or right next to it, and it just leads up into the Castle somehow. But I believe I can build the Vault pieces up above. Thank you again for this :D.
Good Job young lady; and slick! I was unaware of the wire glitch… neat trick! I got more out of this vid than most. I’ve been burning many hours building an above ground vault on Spectacle Island. The uneven terrain is challenging. I’ve been grumbling over elevators. Snapping dissimilar designed objects is problematic. I wonder if NPCs will use the elevator. I intend to use the top floor of the atrium (wide and open) for growing crops and am considering a mod to build a greenhouse up there.
Anybody playing on Xbox one who can’t get the wire to glitch: you need to place a floor tile underneath the elevator for it to work. This glitch wire method works once you place it.
Thanks for the video!
Playstation 4 as well
Thanks
@CyberBattie I know it’s year after you posted this comment - but I’m just now replaying fallout (quarantine boredom) and came across all this . I tried placing a floor tile underneath my 3 floor shaft - The wire glitch worked for my power in itself (I tried the external light hack and it worked ) but my wire is refusing to connect with the elevator . Any help is appreciated
@@nikkityson5987 is the elevator a mod and if so what's it called because nothing is coming up for just elevator
@@seandavies7312 its a different dlc called contraptions workshop
Thanks for another informative video.
Like your tutorial, keep up the good work.
Thanx for the awesome videos and tips.... I'm sure u know by now but they do have inner corner pieces that are attached to floor and roof instead of the inner corner pieces used in the workout room u built.... thanx again for the tips.... I am now 1 of ur subscribers
These vids are awesome. I can even describe the amount of failure my vault would have been without these. I am alright building random crap without vault stuff, but these door to hallway nonsense... Forget about it.
Awesome. Thanks for this one!
Great video!
thank you, this let's me add a elevator to my vault and it actually looks good!
I used the zig-zag stairs one on top of the other, because my Atrium has 2 levels above the ground level. But your idea is nice. Thank you
Thanks this will help so much when I build my vault
Soo cool! Thank's for showing! :)
Thank your for working this out.
Thank you, this was super helpful ^^
good work. Thanks for the tutorial.
Good job, nicely done.
Im on the 6th video thanks. so far im loving the build your doing i cant wait for the next video i watch
thank you for this vid this id gonna make my vault so much better
This will really help keep settlers from wandering into my personal quarters and outside of the vault. I left a crafting station/exterior access on the first floor, directly underneath the reception area of my Overseer's Office, which then has stairs to my private office and quarters above that office. 1 elevator will allow me to access both from the 2nd floor office open to the public.
WOMAN you have awesome tips!!!
Great video, Thanks 🙏
Very helpful in my vault building.
Found something New! Glass elevator w/ warehouse windows. Electric can direct connect via elevator conduit sticking through window. No wire glitch.
-Enjoy everyone.
awesome vid. i found out that if u just put the 2nd vault node thign that powers u can put the wire from there to the ele no glitch needed
Thanks! really helped with my 2018 Blast From The Past Vids. If I use this in my build ill make sure to credit you!!!
Why didn't I think if this?!? My vault is heavily inspired by your vault btw or at least what you had in the first episode rather
love the idea!
Thanks for this, However I had an issue but figured if you had a floor this side with the power conduit on the wall your trick worked. Removed as suggested along with the floor.. Bingo!
Wasteland you're my favorite RUclipsr :)
you seem nice and your contents great thisll be a great help for me in the future
very helpful. thanks!
that's cool i haven't used the elevators yet looks like i'll finely get some use out of em.
thank you so much nice video 🙂👍
Also, great videos! thank you :) I just subscribed.
Superb ! I never thought of that , Now I can ditch a LOT of the stairways in my vault . Thank you :)
Just be sure to leave enough stairways for the npcs to get around. Because I'm not sure if they can use the elevators. I don't know a whole lot about the elevators to be honest. I've never used them until now.
+Wasteland Dovahkiin no sadly npcs don't use elevators and this way of getting around is best for something like yeah the overseers quarters so then it stops npcs from getting in making the area seem more personal
I've heard npcs can't use elevators, or anything else requiring the pushing of a button, but I've found Clem in my Overseer's office twice now already!
Probably spawning in there. He likes you, a lot, lol.
they use the dlc elevator but not the moded one so if you want a place secure use the moded one
Great Vid subscribed
Would be awesome if the elevator was like a structure, allowing you to build and snap to it
Before I try this, can you attach a ceiling piece to the top of the elevator shaft?
how did u make wall mids move like that when u were adding them to the elevator @3:07 ?
great video
Man this is such a cool idea. Didn't know you have to have the workshop dlc 😅
WOW!!!
This is a great video! Thank you for posting this.
One question, can settlers use the elevator or should I put the stairs in for them?
Settlers will not use the elevator, so it's a good idea to have stairs somewhere too. However, the overseer will "use" the elevator if it's the only way up or down from her office and a quest forces her to travel. She'll walk to the elevator and then teleport down if you leave and renter the cell.
If you have your stairway on the leftside of the hallway right before you enter the atrium it takes up less space. Only trouble is finding a spot for the stairway that goes to the 4th level.
Dovah thank you for the Rivindale player home and I enjoy watching and following your step by step video but I should've known that there is a difference between PS4 and Xbox one game play still working on it but taking a bit of a break from building cause I need to raise Piper's affinity but will get to it later
So detailed and concise. Your videos are a godsend.
I know you can you add carpets to the elevator floor by glitching, but will it stay or go with the elevator
i can't get the elevator to snap to any of the vault build items, must have a mod that screws that up :/ makes the job infinite harder to build the darn elevator. anyways still a nice vid :D, subbed to your channel, if you keep that calm and nice clear voice and this type of video's going i'm happy.
The elevator won't snap to the bottom atrium pieces. So you need to add a atrium floor, snap the elevator and then add the atrium doorway.
You probably have already ran into this possible issue (don't know if it's just because my vault was too crazy and over complicated or if vault settlers are to simple for elevators) but after i had the elevator built off the security room and FINALLY built the overseer desk, the overseer couldn't find her way to her office. Had to do some crude temporary staircase which seemed to make something click in the overseers head like "oh...there it is. What am i doing over here?" Was totally bummed to tear down the elevator lol. So do your vault settlers use the elevator? Maybe it's my mod list conflicting or lack of a certain mod that gives settlers vertical awareness lol.
awsome video
how do you do that zoom in and out with the building objects im trying to figure out how you did that
same
How do you make the blocks and walls etc. go out further? I know you play on PlayStation so it might not work on my Xbox but it probably will.
Also my inner corner mid won't snap on the right side.
and you, my friend, have earned a sub! (I'm weirded out how that autocorrected to Subject)
Haha! You're all my subjects! Mwahahahaha!!
Um... Uh....
Haha, just kidding. Welcome to the channel! :-)
I’m having trouble getting power to the overseers office now that it’s not connected via floor. The elevator has power and I was able to get that by adding a floor piece under it, as other suggested. But only the very most near corner of the overseers office has power now.
I can’t get the wire to power the elevator
I got it to go through the wall and connect but the power won’t come on
Me too
The only issue I just found is if the elevator is on 3 and you're on 1 to cannot call it to come down unless you go inside the shaft to press the button to call it down. What I did was I removed the doorway but this in simeway interferes with the power glitch.
Good vid, thanks!
PS: I liked & subbed...so, you better keep up the good work! ;)
if you have the elevator like that can you still press the button at the bottom to call the elevator to your level? or can you not reach it with the door piece in the way?
Yes, you can still reach the button.
When I press attach wire the sparkling cable just stays red over everything and won't connect?
I got it eventually! U need to be looking away from the wire but still have it highlighted, well thats what worked for me
very nice
You're awesome!
BTW I subbed to your channel. :)
Thank you! Welcome :-)
You're the real MVP :)
How do you push your pieces out away from you so that you can reach higher with them?
I'm basing my vault of yours but I have a question. If you explore the tunnels you can find a area that has a bunch of residential and quarters pieces lying around. Are you going to use that as your quarters? Also are you going to have all of your rooms on the Sid elf your atrium? How many Atriums do you recommend having.
No, I didn't keep those pieces down in the tunnels. Next episode, which I'll upload tomorrow, I'll be starting to build the quarters. I'm not going to have them coming directly off the atrium, but they will be down a corridor that is connected to the atrium. Also I'm going to a couple levels of quarters, maybe 3, I don't know. And to be honest, I have no clue yet what I'm going to do with the other tunnels. So for now I'm just building off the main atrium. I may or may not have others later.
im super late but thank you so much for this!!
Thanks for awesome tip But if only they made more vault-like elevator I would have used it. Like those Vault 81. Also, I prefer stairs in case of power outage. The last thing I wanted to get stuck in the elevator.
This may seem like a dumb question, but where is the power for the elevator coming from, I know there's a reactor, but the connectors don't detect the reactor. Right now I'm wire glitching to the connector on the elevator shaft from a connector on the wall by the reactor. How would I get the power from the reactor to the connector without using wires like in this video
I'm not sure what you're asking. But I have a video about elevator power issues linked in the description of this video. Maybe it can explain things better for you?
Sooooo how do you press the button on the outside of the elevator to call for it? The door ways always block them 😔
I've run into a problem. I made the overseers terminal on a third floor like you using elevators. The problem is when i put the overseers terminal down the overseer just stands underneath the floor refusing to use the elevators to go up to the office. Is there a way to "usher" her up? Or should i just build a temp staircase and then leave her ass in the room until she figures out how to push a button?
She should find her way up there on her own eventually. She always does in my game. Try fast traveling away and then back again, she should be at her desk. If she's not, you can use a turret to move her to the elevator. Just build a heavy machine gun turret, then pick it up again, and use it to push her along. But fast traveling is a lot easier and quicker. Sometimes just running to the other side of a different vault tunnel is good enough too. Basically leaving the area.
I got a question how do you move the object like what you did to make the elevator idk how to do that
I actually made a video about that, among other things, hope it helps :) ruclips.net/video/Di10160SNOA/видео.html
