- Hey guys, today I’m going to share some basic vault building tips to help you get started in the new Vault-Tec Workshop DLC pack. I didn’t plan on making a video like this, but I’ve had a ton of questions already from my video yesterday from people having trouble getting things to snap together, working with the new power system, and building atriums. I hope this simple guide can help with a lot of those issues! Enjoy!

thanks! it was kind of awkward when I brought the first test subjects and they are like "this is a real vault right?" and you can only say yes, they walk in and its just a giant cave...
Georgo Lopeez 😂😂😂
Fr tho
😂 even better a room full of geniepug's diamond city newspaper 📰
"it just works"
Fuck yeah it does......nt
No. It's the polar opposite.
The Vault 88 DLC would of been much better to me if we had gotten some basic in-game instructions on how to build a Vault at all. Instead we are given everything and practically told, "Have at it already!". I spent more than six hours in total yesterday trying to figure out how to do a proper Vault in Vault 88. I got somewhere that aspires to mediocrity. Now that I know that you are supposed to "snap" rooms via the doorways I feel mighty stupid because I was not doing that yesterday into last night. I was trying to create at least five different rooms for my new vault dwellers to use. Instead I resorted to making a single room with seven or so beds somewhat neatly placed. I will try out what I learned in this video later in Fallout 4.
Amazing
took me 5 hours to understand vault building.
here's a tip, if the corners don't connect, take off the floor and ceiling and add a corner beam to make it seamless. add everything after, it'll snap in place.
Just found that out yesterday lol
I usually don't leave comments on stuff like this but you helped me a lot. thank you, kind sir.
The Doorways, the frecking Doorways, I would have never figured that out. Thanks so much for your tutorial. It's really good.
The first thing helped me so much. I had no idea you needed the door part to connect the different types of rooms. I was about to give up and just have my vault be one giant room 😂
Same
It's wasn't easy for JV, he started out at Vault 88, with a small loan of a million caps.
I just jumped right in and started building. That's how you learn. I had some trouble snapping stuff together at first, but I eventually figured it out. Now one side of my vault looks nice (the part where I actually figured out how to build properly), while the other side of my vault looks like crap, because I started building without really knowing what I was doing. Lol I love to build for hours. It's fun. Of course, not everyone is as patient. Thanks for this tutorial!
Fun Tip: You can extend the width of the atrium through snapping with regular walls.
You need to build enough walls to reach the height you want and snap a ceiling piece to it. While the ceiling pieces won't snap to the prefabs, they will snap to each other
When you already ruined your vault before this video
:(
my vault is dark because the lights anent bright at all
ikr, the new vault lights have such dark shadows!
Same, I normally just build a giant fucking atrium
I literally just spent 8-10 hours building a gigantic atrium that takes up the entirety of the first cave. So much butthurt from being unable to properly connect the roof, so many top pieces not working together properly...
After all that, I just watched this video and I'm speechless. I don't know whether to tear apart everything I'd just built or give up and keep my imperfect but enormous atrium as it is.
@@jamesashler156tear it apart, I didn't wanna tear my vault apart but since I all ready knew the layout the rebuilding took way less time and now electrical is soo easy I love it
Hey JV, love the vids and tips. Have to shake my head a little as it seems Bethesda went out of their way to make these workshop pieces really specific in how they function. It took me a few builds, but, I finally figured most of it out thanks to your vids and trial and error. Thanks again.
+JV2017gameplay btw there is a middle atrium roof
I had no problem with snapping rooms after figuring out the door thing but I spent 6 hours trying to figure out the power thing. Thanks for the info.
SUPER HELPFUL. Thank you for this!! I had just about given up on connecting rooms and I didnt have a freaking clue about the power! I can't wait to get home and fix my vault!
You actually can extend your atrium ceiling. Just separate them to whatever length you like using atrium floor peices, build up your atrium walls in between, then extend the roof from there. There will be a gap left between the atrium end peices and the ceiling and walls, but if you remove the end peices and place an additional wall or ceiling piece, you can then replace the end peice and it will snap into place and fill in the gap.
The vault pieces are very cumbersome - they should have allowed you to snap a doorway between any 2 vault pieces that don't have walls. They should have also added universal vault walls with the different windows.
The doorway endcaps function in the way you mentioned. It's only the preset doorways that take up space
I'm glad I discovered your channel, great video's, always well explained and interesting to watch :) keep up the good work!!
thanks for your time and effort with this, the power situation was driving me crazy!
this video just saved my life. I was about to just be over this dlc. thanks dude.
Thank you! You are the first video I had that helped out on how to do the atrium. You're awesome. Loved your factory vid too.
Hi Jv, I watch you everyday and love all the gameplays and info! Thx for being an awesome RUclipsr
So i knew what you showed here allready, but still gj. I played like 16 hours straight hehe. I was hoping you hade found a way to use those "power wall conduit" in the premade vault section with entrance. There is a 150 power source there allready. And i placed a few turret at bridge to protect vs envaders (i hade raiders spawning)
But when i tried place the power conduit in order to run a line from it to the turret i cant make it sit on any of the premade walls.
Have you (or any one else ) by chance found a way ?
I dislike having cables on walls and floor to get power from reactor to the turrets hehe.
excellent!!!
That wireless power thing would have been helpful for my first vault, it’s a maze of wires. Well, round two will be easier.
Omg I wish I watched this video earlier. Thank you so much. I had some much trouble building the rooms and now it all makes perfect sense.
This helped me immensely! Thank you! I can actually build with the new stuff now! :D
Recently started playing Fallout 4 again. Remembered having trouble trying to build a vault, but couldn't remember the details. I'm pretty sure this was the same video I found back then, actually, so it's nice that I was able to find it again.
Thanks for solving the "why arn't my lights working" problem many of us have had, keep on doing what your doing. :)
this was actually very helpful. thank you for posting.
Great video, Great narrating. Helped me a lot. Thanks JV.:) Edit to Add: The Vault tab and other missing Items/Tabs has been sorted out the latest UPDATE.
This was so helpful! I just downloaded it and I'd totally misunderstood how to make the atrium, and non of my halls were working because I wasn't using that endcap. Thanks.
Thanks for this! The power distribution was a major stumbling block for me. I've got some fine tuning to do and my budget is getting low, but things are looking good.
6 years later and I must thank you for this video. Just started replaying this fallout 4 as a mega raider and I wanted to create a "Good Guy" hub using vault 88, but for the life of me I couldn't remember how to get doorways to work lol! Cheers!
I couldn't seem to snap a wall or floor or hall on the corner of the 2nd floor atrium. Any ideas?
Thank you for the endcap point. That was the key piece I needed to figure this damn thing out :)
Omg the doorways thing help me a lot. Man you ARE a hero, thank you sooo much
Dude officially the best cause I been playing the dlc since Tuesday and couldn't figure any of that of your the best
I just found vault 88 and had some questions on building...10 minutes later you answered most of them. Thanks:)
This was very helpful, thanks! The power had me really confused for a bit.
Thank you so much for this. Fixed my structure issue and taught me how to fix rooms. Both were problems for me and I was so mad at the game.
yes it was very helpful, I was really frustrated cause what I've build was an atrium only, for my next char I can create a real vault with the specific vault rooms. thanks a lot
Great explanatory video, thank you!
Thank u so much i wanted to build a vault for so long but i didnt know how to connect rooms ur the best, take care❤😊
This was very helpful. I decided to use floor 0 (the one on dirt ground) as a utility and maintenance corridor to connect each section. Never knew the stairs were that useful (well, to get to elevated areas in the cavern)
Thanks this video really helped a lot, I appreciate it!
this video was a life saver i was pulling my hair out trying to build rooms thanks
Thank you so much. I had this room connecting issue.
This really helped me thanks!
thanks for this video, i REALLY needed it
Thank you so much I've been getting really annoyed with my overseer room not connecting to the hallways so thanks for showing how it is done
Great video! thanks for posting
Thanks for making this video, you've earned a sub! :D
(The youtube kind, not the subway kind.)
not often that I see exactly the question I had being answered when I click on a video, I needed that door endcap info! now my reactor power can reach the rest of the vault
Thanks man. The power thing was driving me nuts!
The end cap tip alone turned my crap vault design around. Thank you so much for the video!
thanks for the clarification on atriums JV
Thanks for the helpful video!
Thank you so much! I was having a problem with snapping the rooms haha.
Very helpful! Thank you!
After you're done building your vault, there's a settlement that needs your help, here, I'll mark the location on your map.
Helping more helpless villagers?
Fuck up garvey
IMPOSTER EVEN THOUGH YOU ARE NO LONGER MY TWIN
@RM Mussolini Who hurt you?
I know I'm late to the party, but this was helpful to me! Thanks!
You can extend the width of your atrium by putting in the roof pieces first and then snapping the atrium pieces around the roof pieces. There is some overlapping/clipping of the atrium pieces to the roof but it looks pretty good.
this was very helpful thanks
You're the only person with a decent titled video even after 5 years
This helped a lot. Thank you.
After hours of frustration, you are a beautiful person
I don't have to string a million wires and pipes for power anymore? sweet!
I indeed had given up on building with the vault pieces, after watching at least 5 other videos and still being lost. Thank you I can now attempt to build again, try anyway lol
extremely helpful! thank you
Thank u so much for these tips
Thanks for this I was having these issues you appointed
I was confused your vids are helpful👍
Still haven't decided if I want to get into this DLC, but a bit of a change of pace might be fun. Glad I watched this video after seeing all the frustrated reviews.
thank u this help me a lot lovoe yr vids
I definitely appreciate explaining alot if the different stuff it helped out alot, now just gotta figure how I wanna build my valut,Because I've done few build with settlements, with this isn't easy
Very helpful! Thanks. :)
Very Very Very helpful!
Thanks this really helped me because when i startend i kinda rushed ahead of myself And this summed up THE bacics
And then even with no mods never resolved the missing categories issue. This is pretty helpful as always.
Thank you, this helped out.
Thank u it was soooooo helpful
dude great vid! learnt alot
.. i want my cafe room 2 have two floors is there a way to put in stairs?
I just built a farm, crops, and scrap stations inside the cave. Here at vault 88, we are bat people.
Any chance you got some tips on how to connect to different zones like the east wing to the west
Make a video that explains how to get power from the existing reactor
vault power comduit
Really????
the conduit is under switches and connectors. it snaps onto a vault wall
It'll only snap on to newly placed walls though, if you want power to the main entrance you'll have the wire it up like you normally would with wires and conduits stretching out from the power plant, the VT conduits that you can place emit power up to a 500m range and will power anything that doesn't require a direct connection, if it does you can still place a wire from the conduit to the object you're trying to power, there is a mod that'll increase the passive power range up to 1,500m so if you're having issues with placement I'd suggest downloading it =) Hope this helps!
If you use TCL you can see that the original generator is actually connected to the first "snap-able" vault floor via a series of regular conduits below the ground. you could do something similar to hack power to the old part of the vault.
so you have to put a conduit on every wall with lights?
How would I connect the different sectors..? And, if I can, which do you reccomend connecting?
you can use the main generator that was already there, you just have to place the new box wall conduit on a wall in the atrium, no wires no nothing but people don't realise you can use the existing generator from the room before you even enter the main vault
Bro, you're a life saver 😎🎉
thaaaank you for the conduit explanation I was getting so ticked.
do you HAVE to have that vault conduit on every wall because when I do it it only extends one or two floor pieces and then then I need another
how about stacking rooms, i have found that if you want to make a room then stick a clinic on top it wont snap so its just like guessing if it is strait or not.
OK, that bit about the door endcaps is really helpful and the trick I need to really start building my own vault. My question is how does one go about building in the tunnels? Is there some sort of trick that I'm not thinking of or will you have to do some sort of 'airlock' setup for them? Another question is how to close off the actual vault doors, I keep ending up with this open space between the gear and where the next piece clips together
thanks for the power tutorial
Thank goodness power is easier than I thought. I was linking up wires from the outside to power my lights.
thanks a bunch. id always try this mod then give up cuz i had no idea where anything is supposed to go, but this is a massive help.
Keeps Cait as a companion. Good Man.
really helpful thanks for sharing..
Im luving the Vault Tec dlc, only just started it what with all the other games Ive been working on lately. But I just dont know where to start and how about to lay it all out. Im the type that like to make all my settlements look proper and organized. I feel I need somekind of blueprint to work from or something.
One issue I had was where's he Overseer woman's AI navigation couldn't tell that certain points of interest for her was on a higher or lower floor. In one case, she was headed to her desk, which for me was on the third floor. Instead of finding the stairway and going to the higher floor, she just went either below the location or above it, depending on the floor she was on. It was extremely annoying.
how do you get the overseer office work with the atrium
hey JV, is there special equipment like for stores that I am not seeing or do they expect us to use the same ones as we use for the outside settlements ? if that is the case how stupid is that ???
I know im late to this party but seriously thank you so so much!
