First some backstory: I am a true latecomer to the whole modern gaming world. Having purchased a PS4 on Black Friday 2016, the last console I purchased before that was a Nintendo 64 when I went off to college in 1996 (Still love Wave Race).
First thing I did was get hooked on The Last of Us Remastered. Then about 5 weeks ago I picked up Fallout 4 second hand from a local games dealer. Three weeks later, I bought the Season Pass DLC. I'm friggin hooked.
For the past two weeks I have been watching all of your videos. Just wanted to give credit where credit is due and give you major props for your eloquence, humor, delivery, and video editing quality. Your hilarious self deprecation with phrases such as "like a petulant child" does not go unnoticed.
Thank you, Oxhorn, for providing me with such a hilarious education on the world of Fallout 4.

I found a way to overcome the settlement cap limits w/o using mods or console commands. Just collect a lot of weapons bring them back to your settlement throw them on the ground, open your settlement build mode, break down your weapons into material. not only you will have extra material but this will decrease your settlement cap limit.
This has been known for a very long time 😆
Just storing what you drop will also increase the settlement budget
and why would anyone do that much work (which is a glitch therefore anyways breaching the point of "legit" play) just to surpass build limits which can easily done via mods and cheats? If you say: "achievments/trophies" you are gonna sound really dumb bc playing on verry easy you can unlock all the games achievments in a shorter timeframe than the additional work you would have to put in to grind components and build limit without mods/cheats.....
@@blackvial if you go so far to use glitches, then use mods/cheats ffs instead of wasting your time! I never understood people who readily abuse glitches but cheating/modding goes too far for them.... in a single player game
@@MuellerX some people want to have achievements (because with mods you can’t get them) whilst building good and extensive settlements. The reason this glitch is less looked down upon is the usually glitches are not lore friendly, however, this glitch just removes the also not lore friendly build limit, so it makes sense

I can see the debate starting on which way the vault door faces. I get that Fallout 1 and 2 doors had the mechanism on the outside. But as an engineer, I would not place ANY door opening mechanism on the OUTSIDE where bad guys could tamper with it and open the door. Also, it could trap me inside if I could not reach it to service it. The red flashing light would be on the outside. Why would I alert anyone that the door is opening? "Hey Super Mutants and Raiders, there's a vault door opening; come in and kill us and take our stuff!" No, the light is to alert insiders that the door is opening. (Of course, it's loud and a siren is going, but hey...!) Anyway, I will most likely be using this vault door with the mechanism on the INSIDE. Haven't tried it yet, and there may be collision problems, but that's what I think should happen. In F3 and Vegas, the mechanism is on the inside.
Yes, I understand. Just wanted to point out to all, IMO, mechanism should be inside, when building with V88 DLC supplied door. Thank you for the lore. I DO appreciate it.
The expectation would have been that NOTHING would ave survived outside, so having the mechanism there would not have been a problem.

Mike Caddick: I understand your position, however: in Fallout, we see many cartoons of Vault Boy (produced by Vault-Tec) that mention specifically the dangers of creatures and humans (ghouls, mutants) OUTSIDE the vault. There are many references to this, and what to do (the SPECIAL stuff). So I'd say they DID expect danger from humans, etc. Just saying.

True, because people can not "hear" our voices when we write, so anything that disagrees is assumed to be an attack. I try to be as kind as possible when writing, for the reasons you stated above. I did NOT take Mr. Caddick's comments as an attack, he was pointing out what he thought. I disagreed, and said why. We did NOT call each other names (a common occurrence here) and I hope that he took my comments for what I said, and NOT as a personal attack. I agree with you, it seems everything has to become so verbally horrible. Just know that if you ever see comments from me, I am always talking about the game, and nothing personal. I'd replicate this if settlers were able to navigate vault structures, they'll usually try to walk through walls.
I'm building it as a personal place, like Home Plate except with a provisioner.
they where doing that in my vault 88 main room i padded it out with floors n walls and lights and doors they walked into the door frame and got stuck so i removed the doors and now they know how to get around.

Playing on the PS4 or any console with out mods you learn to do a lot of the shit people have mods for shit by discovering little tricks and tidbits you'd normally overlook. In another video he said without mods he wasent able to place items inside the shelves of the new shops when all you have to do is pick them up outside of the workshop and place them inside the shelve. Just little things you learn when you don't have mods to convenience your life. But surprisingly he said he's not using a lot of mods for this build. So he's understanding the struggle especially with ladders and shit lol

The door is like that because it's based on the Fallout 1-and-2 doors, which had the door slide outwards, as opposed to inwards.
Personally, a good choice in my opinion. If the door can move inwards, wouldn't that make explosive blasts knock it inward?

yes it opening outwards is a better idea but now your stuck with hoping that the radiation and weather doesn't kill your way out as everything to open the door is outside of the vault with no maintenance for about 100 to 200 years. You would also have to hope that the exit isn't cluttered on the outside and stops the door from opening compared to a door that opens inwards that has reliable maintenance on it with a open space for it to open.
You need it inside because of the light to alert the dwellers and to keep it from tampering and yes, I'm pretty sure a 6 ton solid metal VAULT door would not go inward from explosions in the outside world

You don't need a mod to remove the size limit. You need to fill your inventory with weapons to drop and then store in the workshop. Pipe weapons work best, but any weapon will work. You drop them on the ground and then enter the workshop and store them in the workshop itself. As you do that you will see the size limit going down slowly with every weapon stored. Rinse and repeat by simply adding them back to your inventory by taking them from the workshop and starting again. This works at all of the settlement locations and can be used over and over again to make MASSIVE settlements.

That's a nice point, but Bestheda only did that to protect lag/glitches/crashes from your game. So going over the limit by outsmarting it or mod will cause crashes 😢

Great Vault and you show us how it can be done up top, thanks for your informative way of doing things I always enjoy your videos. When you did the kitchen/dining room I thought of Red Rocket Diners, so I might give it a go using the vault stuff as I did 88 today.

Vault 88 was fun and gives us some great stuff to work with, but I was a little surprised to see most people only using Vault construction kit when they use it almost unilaterally. I personally am more interested in mixing materials and seeing what I can come up with at every settlement, but maybe I am weird. At the very least it should be easy to do shells with other construction materials on the outside and Vault interiors. I made a Japanese castle at Abernathy farm to test that and it worked really well.
I'm with you. I want to mix the materials. Remember people, we are building in a post-apocalyptic wasteland with materials that we find, AS we find them, i.e., we find some sheet metal, we bring it over and slap it on our building, etc. I want to mix it up and see what results.
MrFox1701 I agree with you, but I think it should be a creative tool and if someone wants to build Mad Max wasteland theme parks that is great however there is no reason you can't build nice looking things either. It is actually very unrealistic that people make such crappy things. Sure, immediately post apocalypse people would have mostly scavenged and scrapped by with whatever they could find, but 200 plus years later they would only scavenge what is useful and craft skills immediately post apocalypse once things settled down would have actually greatly improved on an individual level. Craft skills that are largely dying due to mass production would become revitalized and important again and the best with those skills would be able to make an occupation of it just like throughout history.
We are in agreement. Actually, since you mentioned it, I have always felt that the world after 200 years would be MUCH more recovered than as depicted in Fallout 3, Vegas, and 4. I think nature would recover and most things would be covered in vegetation. But hey, that's the game, and it's fun.
Remember though, that up till the war in 2077 the Fallout universe hadn't really advanced beyond US 50's and 60's other than nuclear powered vacuums and a relaxed attitude to safety. From that start point, combined with the new hazards caused during and after the war development would be painfully slow. Even 2277 (Fallout 3 timeline) the water was still mostly undrinkable, and access to potable water would have held absolutely everything back.
From what is depicted by their lack of safety standards, I agree. But 200 years is a long time, and I think that some factories and production would would have improved quite a bit, and that the surroundings would be greener. BUT, it's a game, and half the fun is what they are lacking, making us work harder for resources.

This was fun and really helpful! I’ve been wanting to try out some outdoor vaults, but I got a bit intimidated by how many pieces there are and I thought everything was going to need supports. It seemed overly complicated, but it’s really not! I’m pretty new to fallout 4, and I’ve really been enjoying exploring the game. I’ve learned a lot from your videos and since it’s almost impossible to play them on my Mac nowadays, I’ve watched your Fallout 1 and 2 playthroughs. I enjoyed them quite a bit!

The large door is from fallout 1 that why it's different
It's a bit different from those vault doors. If you remember when Vault 13 opened it had a hand that would grab the vault door on the outside and pull it into the slot. xP
+Derogon but it's still the seal n safe 34 model, the same as in fallout 2 and 2

fallout 4 takes place in the East, fallout 3 was in the West, so the chance is that wildlife is recovering faster their and hasn't reached here yet.
It would be cool if when the institute said they were still digging deeper and making institute bigger you could make the new deeper I statute connected to the old one it would make a perfect "tile set " not sure what it's called

A great idea for me would probably be to connect the rooms as if the outdoor vault was like a hotel.
I know this video is 3 years old,but I've just recently picked the game back up and just started getting into true building, and I just gotta say, I am so glad I'm not the only one that has major issues getting parts to snap in the way I want them to lol

I think you should surround the outside walls of your vault with normal blocks. Make it look really run-down on the outside. That would be pretty cool.
