  • This video describes the method I used to remove the transmission bearings on my 2007 Jeep Compass (same as Patriot and Caliber). This technique can be used for any bearing that you have access to. It does require fabricating a few tools that can be made with a hand file if necessary. You can start from a bolt and modify the bolt head to work rather then weld a piece. Much easier to do.

    I did almost exactly what you recommended and it worked great Eugene. i had bought the bearing puller you showed and it would not work without grinding, which is did not want to do, so i used a variant of your recommendation. Your way IS THE WAY to do this. thank you very much! saved me a lot. keep rolling!

    Great video, I probably have some of those caliber bolts laying around as well. And I do well at fabricating tools well. Appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us.

    Great Video, but it seems like a lot of machining, Welding and grinding. I used your Ball and socket technique and just ground the head of a standard bolt to a round ball with the flat sides and just slipped the threads through my bearing puller and nutted up the thread end of the bolt to length. Thanks for the Idea...

    It went fairly well..my biggest problem was the lug nuts were absolutely impossible to loosen. Tiny lug nuts with little splines, the puller had grind down to fit. Pulling was difficult just went slow. However install on new bearings went on well . I did have a problem with that one..like you mentioned. Overall nice quiet ride now

      Glad it helped, I've received feedback that modifying a bolt is easier than welding up one like I did.

    I just ground the end of a bolt down like you have pictured and for the piece on the end of the shaft for the puller a female torx socket 3/8 ratchet like size 20 that went in the center and was same diameter of shaft. Thanks. I don't have a lathe. and for the ball bearing retainer I used a 1/8" die grinder bit and cut it between bearings. What I did on the second ball bearing retainer was use my round headed cone shaped 1/4" die grinder bit and grind the heads of the little rivets between the ball bearings , then after cutting it in one spot with a chisel, took a pair of vise grips and it all pulled one pull, easy. Then after I'd made one full turn and removed the outer, I kept pulling and it brought the whole inner part too, smooth as silk, the whole retainer in one piece. Surprised me. But if you do it this way, after you pull the bearing make sure to grab the cover for the bearing of the shaft.

    Oil passage splashes front of bearing. What about putting bearing without seal cover so oil baths the bearing?

    • @blanchae
      @blanchae  Месяц назад

      When the transmission is full of oil, the bearings are immersed in the oil.

      That's a seal which is part of the bearing.

    Good morning. This T355 transmission takes the same bearings. Correct? So basically 2 input shaft bearings.

    Did you have to flush the Transmission fluid?

    • @blanchae
      @blanchae  Год назад +1

      No need to flush the fluid as most of it will pour out when the lid is removed. I refilled it, it doesn't take much if I remember right. Just 2 to 3 liters (quarts for Americans)
