Isn't there supposed to be a seperation of powers in the USA? You know, one of the foundations of a democracy...
Yes separation of powers was part of the checks and balances our founding fathers wrote into the constitution, but Mitch McConnell and all but one of the Republican senators we now have in the senate put an end to that by blatantly allowing a mock trial with no witnesses and access to evidence blocked by the defendant Donald Trump. So the Senate has effectively done away with the Houses check on the executive branch of the government because the executive branch flaunted obstruction of justice and succeeded, now Our leader is working on overhauling the Judicial branch....yes without these checks and balances we have a dictatorship and no longer a democracy!
Correct. That's why the House of Representatives can't control the Senate and the Senate cannot control the House and neither one can control the Executive Branch. It's called "separation of powers" but Dems get upset because they can't control the Executive Branch right now. There are safety precautions inserted into the Constitution. Neither party should get so angry when things don't go the way they think. The Executive Branch has its limits as does the House and Senate.

Thing is, Trump's presidency hasn't really changed much, it just allowed the Republicans to show their true selves. Many people in the US knew that Drumpf and the Republicans would only look out for themselves, but it's just the sheer lengths they're really willing to go to in order to keep their power and wealth and/or gain more of it that has caught many of us off-guard. 4 years ago, if you told people that this is where we'd be with Drumpf as president, I'm not sure if anyone would take it seriously (especially with all the hyperbolic statements regarding what Drumpf would do as president at that time)

I love Steven's reaction to all this, but no amount of humor can completely eliminate the horror I feel at the sight of so many fellow Americans still waving those stupid signs, wearing those stupid red hats, and wholeheartedly applauding that stupid, stupid man, after every evil thing he's done.
