Tips on drawing birds in pen and ink
This is an example of teaching at it's finest! A person learning to draw doesn't need to only see.."this is how it's done!" We need to know the why's, and what the thought process is. I love how you give ideas, to "nudge" the brain through the process. For this - I thank you soooooo much! :)

Can you do a step by step tutorial on how to draw birds? For example, start with the basic forms and work upward. I would REALLY appreciate that. Keep being an excellent artist

A tip when drawing birds; passerines have three toes in the front and one in the back, all birds in the parrot family have two in front and two in back.

Love your sketching Alphonso and the way you come across is very helpful to those of us trying out what you are doing! I am wondering how you differentiate the "value" from the straight up dark and light "colors" in the bird? I have a bird black on the top and wings but orange on the breast. How can I use the lines to present the bird with both?
Hi thanks so much. You can think of the orange part as a gray. The lightness or darkness of the gray depends on the value of the orange in contrast with the black. So a layer of generously spaced lines should enough to convey a sense of gray

I've got a suggestion to make however: what about posting some videos on how to get your pencil sketches done? I find it that it's a minor problem when trying to follow your videos: the pencil sketches are already done, and you jump straight into the pen stage. But for me, who is just learning how to draw, even sketching on pencil is a struggle :D It would be cool to get one first minute or so of the video on how to sketch the subject we'll be about to draw :)

birds are our subject this week in a drawing painting class I'm in I was not liking it but you solved the problem .You are really an excellent instructor/artist{and I know because I have viewed 100's u tubes]. I'm working on a drawing of my Pete cockatiel and everything is fine until I get to the feather textures, the wings and tail is fine, but how do I show the short head feathers and the belly, I have tried doing the small hatching lines to indicate that it's short but I don't have enough room to make it look natural
And head is supposed to look lighter m like white or yellow

please upload a video of how to draw birds outline..........because shading is no use till we did not know how to make the base of a drawing....the base in this video is how to draw the birds........but anyway the shading is awesome.....it is looking like the real furs and feathers of the bird......is it compulsory to use fine liners only....cannot we make it with ball point pen.........

Awesome drawings! Its these types of videos that are so good, PEN & INK DRAWINGS! If you dedicated your channel to the pen and ink lessons, and timelapses i think your channel would really get noticed. Keep up the great work, I hope to see more pen and ink work in the future!

now, mostly sakura pigma microns. But in truth it doesn't matter really, its whatever you have right now :-)

So basically try not to use closed lines? I’m going to attempt a Hawk in pen on plywood.
you can vary where you open and close the contour. but generally open is good for feathers
l need your bad ass art pencil. I use a freakin no.2 pencil and it *sucks*
a no. 2 is just as good, trust me
A no.2 mrchanical, yes. But a regular wooden no.2 pencil
Just gets unsharpened every 30 seconds.
I often only use a No.2 pencil, I kinda draw heavy to, but I also draw rotating the pencil so it stays sharp longer.

No, no, no Alphonso. You need to DRAW THE BIRD. The shading is only secondary.

Actually not "how to DRAW a bird" but "how to copy on trace paper someone elses bird and make it look like your own" . My daughter (5th grade) do this at school.
