If you have around $20,000 to spend on a compact city car, it's hard to look past the Kia Picanto. It's surprisingly grown-up to drive and loaded with features, which is why it's comfortably the best-selling micro car in Australia.
But size matters - so we've heard - and for not all that much more money than Kia demands, you could find yourself behind the wheel of something more substantial.
Something like the Suzuki Swift GL Navigator with Safety Pack, perhaps. It's less showy than the Kia, but the Swift is practical, handsome and fun to drive.
Which of these first-car favourites gets things right, then?

I own the Swift GL right now, all I can say is it's wonderful to drive...
Great review Caradvise. These tester reporters are eloquent and very thoughrough. Really enjoyed this though I'd pick the Kia for looks, ownership costs and warranty.
Excellent quality content! Kept me glued to my screen wanting to know more. I love the interaction and reasoning dialogue between you two. It's like you're reading the consumer's mind when they're comparing their options. Will def be checking more vids on your channel

What a fun comparison! These 2 guys are great.
I like the Picanto. However, as a current Swift owner (2010 XG 1.2 CVT - with telescopic steering wheel - just brilliant!) I'd still go for the Swift if I wanted to pay for a new car.
Picanto GT line is so much better and the 2020 model is packed with lot's of safety features.
Please do comparative reviews for mg3 excite and the other mini cars. That would be awesome

I love my GT, which is the 1.0ltr 3cyl turbo.
Unfortunately there aren't too many reviews of this actual model, but heaps of the GT Line.
I've owned 2 generation swifts, and also driven the Picanto GT interstate and personally I'd rather be in the Picanto.

The fact that it's 'tiny' is presented as though it's a bad thing. It's not, it's what many small car fans want.
An interesting review thank you Car advice, If you think about it I quite agree with the conclusion, I would rather have the swift over a Kia Picanto Normal or GT line any day of the year. Why? It drives and handles nicely, Has more interior room and i think its more refined than the Kia, I own the previous generation swift and I think its brilliant. The Picanto just feels claustrophobic for me. Have not driven the new version yet but the previous version felt more jerky and had grabby brakes, not sure about the new one, But on that note I think Kia has done a decent job in the driving dynamics compared to the older Picanto so Kudos to Kia for that, Swift wins this comparison for me.
It doesnt matter what the other say about the car. It will always be beautiful on the eyes of the owner no matter how ugly it is.
The Swift is too wide for my long windy drive. I've looked at Picanto and the seats are a bit tight for a reasonable sized 'first world' derriere. And on your noise comparison, don't you think that the rush to mags (eminently scrapeable) and low profile tyres is counterintuitive when it comes to softer ride & indeed, NVH? [I know that the bottom model might fix that, but I want the gear & I'm prepared to pay].
why the f*** will you want a factory GPS when you have Android auto and Google maps???

Neither of these cars are available where I live, BUT I would definitely take the one with the lowest end tech. Fewer items to break.

Most of my friends drove the Kia Picanto, they said they will never drive one again, if the car has to get any repairs done or work done on the engine, it is extremely expensive, more expensive than most small cars
If you drive a swift glx turbo , you will realise how much better it is than a picanto. It feels infinitely better.
top spec kia does have sat nav.
I think that the decision depends on how tall you are, if you are short you should go for picanto since you will fit comfortably but if you are tall, you probably need the extra room so get the Suzuki

Cant go past the Suzuki, the Japanese have years more experience than the Koreans.

Picanto, just too small. Just make it a bit bigger Kia. You'll have a winner by miles
This small Picanto is over equipped compared to the minimal equipped Swift and cost less - so keep the Swift - just have a look what the Korean 2021 Morning = named Picanto elsewhere and they have stuff only far more big brother may have. The new model should be on the market for $ 10000.- in the US.

Noup, the Picanto is more noisier they said..
The driving feel and driving position of the swift are far superior to the kia . And you can bet it will be more reliable and durable in the long term . And the Kia's styling and proportions are rather uncoordinated.
@@cliffwilkins9178 They would have to be right up near the top. My cousin who has a swift has so many horror stories about service and warranty expirience and in comparison to my mother's new Picanto outright flimsy and the head unit is an utter joke. The Kia is Quality.

I like Kia picanto car . However, .the Kia shop in our place is dishonest and lots of cover up after they've damaged my car without telling me at first.
