As you have mentioned, this is not a hot hatch but it is definitely a fun car. It drives well and handles corner securely. I also like the styling too. Considering it only cost you under $20,000 brand new, you can't go wrong with this one.
Just came out of a Porsche 911 996 into the Picanto GT-line s, turbo 1l and honestly luv it, it’s just so much fun and I don’t need to be going illegal speeds anymore to have fun! Plus I get triple the mileage, 3 times lower insurance and parts are gonna be so cheap, but still plenty of warrantee left as it’s a Kia. Yeah I miss the prestige, but my needs have changed. You cannot go wrong with this car! (Unless you go for a non turbo with an auto gearbox!)
Good honest review. Most of the negatives I find are personal preferences. I personally don’t like digital Speedo’s so not having one didn’t bother me. Matt’s right saying it’s not a fast car, but so fun to drive. You can literally drive at ten tenths, all the time. Absolutely awesome. I can also testify that it is extremely comfortable (for me 180cm) on Kings trips. Have taken this car from Adelaide to Wollongong and was comfortable the whole trip and car chugged along at 110kmh on cruise control effortlessly. But get it in black, looks wicked.
Great review, I've got the Xline Australian open edition, love it! Bought it to be used as a driving instructor car.. my students love it, its sporty and a great car to drive for the price!
Drove a 1.2 gt line and was well impressed. Scott Kilmer berates the kia engines though. But hey. A 7 year warranty. I'm sold already. Actively working on bagging one.
Helped my mother choose one. She absolutely adors it and I knew she would. Kia make very impressive cars and my father decided to trade hos car at the same time and he is now happily drive a Cerato Sport+. In total the spent $36000 for two brand new brilliant cars with a total of 14 years warranty.

I just ordered a new one today after a spin in a dealers demo. Not exactly a pocket rocket but makes the most of the power it has by having the torque delivery low down making it feel light and agile, although brakes a bit grabby. Read an article about a plug in module that will take you up to 144ps for under £200. 😉
It remindes me SO much of our second car an 04 'shopping trolley' Hyundai Getz. (only wish more micro cars were in the Aussie market.) Yes. The Picanto is the logical replacement if I can ever get the Getz to die. (which may be never)
No, it's not 'hot' by any means. But it has a turbo 99 bhp engine which gets the car to 62 mph in 9.9 seconds, which makes it a 'warm' hatch. It's good to drive and I find it's very easy to chuck around. The interior is very nice and makes the car feel more expensive than it really is. I would have preferred an Abarth, but there are no local dealers and I'm not convinced about its reliability.
Hey mate, great review as always. Loving your small / micro car reviews because you appreciate them for what they are. One thing I don't think was touched on, did you manage to drive the Picanto on the highway? Just wondering where the tacho sits with the 5spd at 100-110kms for long trips.
I did drive it on the highway, but didn't take much notice sorry! What I can say is expect it to be 2.5k -3k revs - it has a long ratio for 5th gear but it's still 5 gears ☹️
I own a picanto gt and got it 12 months ago and love it great car if driven right you can get 0 100 in 9.0 seconds flat and from the dealer i payed $16900 drive away with a bit of bargaining and playing dealers against each other for the sale.
I went out to buy a motorbike for my commute and ended up buying one of these - It really is like a 4 wheel bike - zippy and great economy. Sure I cant filter through traffic - but I DO get a roof and decent AC. Pick it p in 5 days
We bought a new UK spec GT-Line S in May this year and it’s a fabulous fun car. You can drive it hard, have fun & not break the speed limit. Uk spec GT-Line S comes with climate control, keyless entry, wireless charging & other stuff that I can’t remember. It’s our 2nd car as we have a Toyota 2.0 Corolla excel touring sport hybrid for longer distances & for when we need to move bigger stuff. But we use the GT-Line far more than we thought we would and fight over who will drive 😂. Cracking little car. Unfortunately Kia are dropping this engine from the lineup 😢.
I own one of these little things and spot on with your review. I hate people going on about how “cheap” interior feels. Yeah buddy, it’s a cheap car. My only issue is that I am still having trouble with the breaking system over 1 year later. Kia still cannot fix it and I’m getting very tired of being without a car weeks on end while they fail to fix it over and over.

It's a small city car basically. It is quite economical but having only 4 speed auto instead of 5, the motor revs too fast at 110km/hr, the maximum legal speed here in Australia and economy takes a hit. @@CarSauce ha ha. Poor Pipper. It will be sad to let go of when the time comes. I had a Hyundai Getz and after fourteen years of trouble free amazing service I put it on a trade for a mazda mx-5. My experience with this specific trim level was let down by two things:
i) crummy stereo

Suspension is firm due to poor choice of oem tyres. XL!!!
When they wear out after 30k miles, get General Altimax.

Awsome..i have KIA picanto 2013🤩
I just brought a second hand picanto for 4 grand and I absolutely love how adorable and cheap these cars are. Now seeing this.......(owo') Im sorry Pipper Im in love with your gt sibling
Congrats! Everytime I watch the video back, even I get jealous haha. Great choice 😅
@@CarSauce ha ha. Poor Pipper. It will be sad to let go of when the time comes. I had a Hyundai Getz and after fourteen years of trouble free amazing service I put it on a trade for a mazda mx-5. Then I changed my mind and bought the mx-5 but cancelled the trade-in. Had it as a second car for another two years(197,000 kms and driving as good as ever). Never had a clutch or engine work aside from belts at 90k intervals two sets of front only brake pads only and three sets of tyres. Amazing. My mother gave her 2010 Elantra yo my niece last year and used my Getz as a $700 trade on a Kia Picanto GT-Line. I can tell you that Hyundai and Kia make bettet cars than flimsy shit mazda and the aftersales is way!!!better too.
That moustache looks redicoulious 😏
If there is one thing that hurts me, it's attacking my 'Mo 😭
If they upped the engine to a 1.3T, around 100kw and 200+Nm it would be so good I'd buy one. Just a bit under done unfortunately. Really enjoyable review.
Cold air induction and a flash tune with a cat back exhaust will give you that 👌👍
😍❤👍KIA👍❤😍
🎆🎆
l love my Kia Piccanto
Great choice!
This or the Suzuki swift
70kph less than 45mph
The UK Spec GT Line S has DAB Stereo and Digital Heating controls does the Aussie spec Picanto S have the same ?
Not the old spec but maybe the new one, will check when I review it next month :)
@@CarSauce I own one its a 2019 ( around 16 months old ) its the 3 pot 1.0 Tgdi version
The 3 spec from 2 years ago has digital controls the 2 spec has analogue controls.
I came back here for the 'tash
It's not going ANYWHERE
The steering wheel is on the wrong side!
:O
@@CarSauce I was trying to be funny. I know you're in the UK not in America where I am.
Haha don't worry I got it! But also, I'm in Australia 😜
@@CarSauce I didn't know that you Drive on the left side of the road in Australia. I work at the Hyundai Kia proving grounds in California City, California. I'm just a test driver.
@@lashturner "just a test driver" dude that sounds like a dream job! Haha love it
An optional auto would be good....
Love my 2019 GT-Turbo: Kia Picanto Onboard #kiapicanto

All those red and yellow stripes look tacky.
Get the 3 spec which has all the kit and looks smart.
Thats what I have, in white and automatic. Its great!
The reviewer is a snob who probably normally drives a Jag or BMW.
And his 36 mpg is really good, he cant have thrashed it as it can only do 38mpg at best.
Hello, wil this model be available in South Afrika?
