I bet what would help is if they consulted anyone that knew anything about outboard motors. That thing is trimmed waaaaayyy too high. Basically a good rule of thumb is that the trim tab(the flat piece of metal just above the propeller) should be as parallel to the bottom of the boat as possible. That way the motor is pushing the boat straight and not pushing the stern down or up. Not trying to be negative, just a quick tip for you guys. And I enjoy both your stuff on RUclips and seriously thinking of gettin myself a kayak aswell.
Just set one up with a Suzuki Motor kit today and it came out super clean. They really did a nice job making this a clean and easy boat to rig. Super happy with how it turned out.
I just got done rigging my Jonny boat today. Waiting on warm weather now. I did a 55lb minnkota Max, and molded kydex skid plates along the bow and bottom. The purpose is mainly for river samllmouth...solo fishing. I've had kayaks for years but you need two people for long trips. With this I can get way further up river and float back down. Also the whole set up is cheaper than a new 9.9 kicker for my boat on 10 horse lakes

Gas motor keeps on running as long as you have gas. And its more powerful , you can cover more water for fishing!! I have a 2.5hp suzuki. I had it for a year now. I love it!
These are cool but it seems like a small aluminum jon boat would be a better option at this point. A 10 foot jon either flat bottom or a small V would have more room, more stability and you could have a second person. I just dont understand the market for these... but I guess its there.
@@AliexFolgueira a 10 foot Tracker jon boat is $150 cheaper than this thing, can hold 2 people and is only slightly heavier. I'd take a jon boat over this anyday. I have a 12 foot fishing kayak...after 3 years of using it I think a jon boat would have been a smarter choice...
kayaks are not designed as planing hulls. their tracking hulls. think of the paws on a puma or cougar. their bigger, flatter for more surface contact. the paws on a cheetah are smaller, less contact, more speed. planing hulls are designed to lift the hull up and reduce water surface contact (drag) the solo skiff was designed for the 6hp mercury. will clock 27mph. it's a hybrid surf skiff with planing hull characteristics. (hard chines). the danger of over powering kayaks is that with the soft chimes (rounded), the boat will roll.
Funny how Marty Zoffingers mods with the swivel seat on a Pelican seemed to ride better then this production model that claims to be made for motors. They have quite a bit of work to do.
Aliex I know you had a beefier motor, you have me thinking of selling my Hobie and getting a Jonny with a nice electric. Some days f the spots in the Bays here are a long peddle and to get there eats up a lot of fishing time. Maybe once the Torqueedo 1100 watt motor comes out.

The Suzuki DF2 2.5 hp outboard would provide plenty of power and its built in tank should give plenty of run time. I use one on my Bass Raider 10E and have never come close to running out of gas. Also it only weighs 29#.
I'm sure in the 108 or Dorado the motor would do better. It's a wider kayak. Wider gets more stability in the chop.... The Johnny boat seat actually swivels so operating a motor is easy.
If you had to choose between that boat, the bass 100 and the motor it comes with or a big fish 108 pedal drive. Or a pelican pwr 100 with a clamp on trolling motor. I'm after being on the water and traveling as far and long as possible. Any help.
Pointed out elsewhere by me, Aliex, that what the motorized kayak world REALLY needs? It would be a one horsepower outboard weighing less than 20 lbs. that runs off of the little Propane camping canisters. Lehr has one around 2.5 HP (still too much) but it has been reviewed as "unreliable." And, Tohatsu has made a much better propane outboard . . . but it is 5 HP. Way too much power, too much weight for all but a few kayaks. If someone could make a reliable, propane powered, one-half to one HP outboard weighing less than 20 lbs.? It'd compete very well against the current electric motors and trolling motors. Brad

Aliex, I have the Pelican Catch PWR 100. Do you think the transom could support a 55lb 6hp Tohatsu outboard? I'm not interested in going fast, it would be convenient because I already own the outboard and use it as a kicker for my 16.5 ft Alumacraft V-hull. Thanks!

So I'm really thinking of getting one of these but with the built in trolling motor. However, the one thing that is making me hesitant is I've heard you really can't paddle with this. If I run out of trolling battery juice, I want to be able to paddle my way back just in case. Is this really true? I wonder what other kayaks may be better for that. I like the price of this though.

If man didn't push the limits we would not be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. Aliex you are a very intelligent man to get your friend to take the risk. It seemed to go OK offshore. Can you do the offshore test with Honda 2.3hp which I think would be good combination with this boat. That's one small step for man!

Get a hydrofoil for the cavitation plate such as Dole-fin or Sting Ray. That will help with plaining issues.

They make a steering kit for it, the problem is that the kit only is for a couple models of outboards.

It is easier to install the motor in very shallow water if you tilt it up prop.
