When Zeratul said: " My life for AIur" for the last time, he knew he was going to his death, already weakened by the psionic lightning and melee fights with Amon-possessed Artanis. In Zeratul's mind, i think he felt he redeemed himself after the fall of Aiur, he gave his life for Aiur and for the Protoss Race. Zeratul gave his life for Aiur indeed. While Zeratul was weaken, he definitely could have flee with his ability. However, fleeing would save himself only. Actually, Zeratul probably could have killed Artanis -- they would both kill each other actually. Keep in mind that Amon possessed Artanis was aiming to kill Zeratul. Zeratul was aiming to cut the nerve cord. The fact that Zeratul was able to cut the nerve cord implies that he could have dealt a deathblow to Artanis if he wanted too, but of course it wasn't his intention to kill. His intention was to save. Zeratul wanted to save Protoss and he believed in Artanis. In his last attempt, he saved Artanis. This is actually a similar scene as Grom Hellscream saving Thrall from Mannoroth. Hellscream could have run and save himself, but he stood his ground to save Thrall because Hellscream actually believed Thrall is the salvation of the orcs.
At 641 years old, Zeratul realized the sacrifice. To give up all he has experienced and known, his fountain of knowledge for what he loves. Aiur and the Protoss race. +Template The scene is just so well made. Amon-Artanis told Zeratul that "You should not stand against me", and Zeratul immediately stood up. And when he said "My life for Aiur", it wasn't a symbolic statement. He literally meant "I will trade my life to free Artanis". Unlike Amon who is full of hatred, Zeratul has none. In his final desperate moment, he did not give into hate. He didn't want to kill, but to save Artanis. Instead of attacking Artanis, Zeratul waited for Artanis to come to him to attack. By doing this, Zeratul knnew exactly Artanis' movement, but by doing this, Zeratul could not dodge. I have to say that Zeratul has always been my most beloved character in StarCraft universe.

"I have journeyed through the darkness between the most distant stars. I have beheld the births of negative-suns and borne witness to the entropy of entire realities..." I remember this quote from Zeratul in the first Starcraft after watching this scene.

He was so sure he'd win that he never counted on Kerrigan ascending into a Xel'Naga. And even then he severely underestimated her.
i really love how this was portrayed as some old samurai movie, where they embrace that one strike which will either make you win or lose. No long flashy spinning combat scene, just drama build up and then warrior sacrifice.

En Taro Artanis MY LIFE FOR AIUR En Taro Tassadar En Taro Adun EN TARO ZERATUL
"Adun Toridas", The Dark Templar say this as opposed to 'En taro Adun'. Commonly interpreted as 'May Adun give you sanctuary,' though it literally and bluntly means, 'Adun hide(s) you/me.' You will find it's meaning in the Starcraft Book: "The Dark Templar Saga - Twilight".
if i paid attention to the protoss languages properly, then "En taro" would mean "we honor the name" a greeting and veneration to the greatest heroes of their race and for millenia the longest holder was adun similarly "en audin" is the nerazim formulaic for "we honor the sacrifice of" as it has been used to honor raszagal and shakuras. it could also mean "we will always remember" as befits the nerazim. to bring the tangent to an end. En Audin Zeratul
Zeratul is the ultimate badass motherfucker. Ever since I first saw him in the sixth(?) Protoss mission in Starcraft all those long years ago he's been my fave. Wasn't happy with the treatment he got in SC2, but he went out in style like a total champ.
In the beginning he left in search of prophecy because he was the only one that could. Blamed for the loss of their home world, he was the one who could never be the leader and hero they needed. But he could be the hero -- and find the knowledge -- shrouded in darkness that they deserved. Forever vigilant, he was, and always will be, The Dark Templar
The fact that actually dark templars got banished from Aiur, then welcomed they khalai on Shakuras together with the fact that Zeratul's last line before death as a dark templar is "My life for Aiur", trying to save the Daelaam Hierarch makes this sooooo epic.
IIRC, since Dark Templar have no connection to the Khala, their memories cannot be preserved and their spiritual entity dissipates into the Void, as we saw with Zeratul turning to dust. So goddammit, this hits even harder than Fenix because Zeratul is truly gone ;_;
This is actually the first Hero I Broke down sobbing in a horrible mess. He was so likable and him dying was so unexpected And i kept thinking "Ah he'll be back they always...Do? w-what? N-No!" ;-;
Zeratul...the greatest hero of the Protoss :( He fought against Amon/Artanis, but was severely handicapped by the fact he wasn't trying to kill Artanis. This guy is an absolute monster. Definitely on Kerrigan's level. With one defiant swing, he would preserve the future of all Protoss.
zeratul saved everyone literally.not only the protoss but the terrans and zerg too.the protoss better give him a lot of respect make him a saint or something.
"MY LIFE.... FOR AIUR!!!!!" From the guy who was banished from his home planet for decades, lived and shunned by his former comrades in Aiur, did everything he could to find the truth and peace with his people, his last stand, last words, on his home-planet, against a Dark God of his universe. A charge worth dying for... En Taro Zeratul!!!
I kinda like the motion Blizzard went with the titular characters of each chapter. Jim Raynor is a branded outlaw, but during the campaign he becomes a hero. Kerrigan was overall thought to be a menace (despite some heinous acts, such as wiping out the Protoss on Kaldir) yet she turned out (especially in the epilogue of LotV) as the savior. Artanis was a leader and by the end of the Protoss campaign I thought him more as a liberator. Also all of them were victims of something. Artanis was a victim of Khala and guilt over Zeratul, Kerrigan was victim of both Arcturus Mengsk and Overmind (although it turned out to be very hidden good guy) and poor Jim was a victim of betray by Arcturus, Queen of Blades and even his old friend.
Had to hold back some tears on this one... I never cry, but hot damn Zeratul, one of the few characters I remember playing Starcraft as a little kid. I thought he was so cool... And Tassadar and his green tunic... Entaro Zeratul and Entaro Artanis!!
So I was listening to Oblivion Awaits and decided to play LOTV's soundtrack to go with this scene. Was messing around muting this scene and playing the soundtrack and it kind of fits with the scene. Mute this scene and start at @0:26 while playing Oblivion Awaits.

"Adun Toridas", The Dark Templar say this as opposed to 'En taro Adun'. Commonly interpreted as 'May Adun give you sanctuary,' though it literally and bluntly means, 'Adun hide(s) you/me.' You will find it's meaning in the Starcraft Book: "The Dark Templar Saga - Twilight".
if i paid attention to the protoss languages properly, then "En taro" would mean "we honor the name" a greeting and veneration to the greatest heroes of their race and for millenia the longest holder was adun
similarly "en audin" is the nerazim formulaic for "we honor the sacrifice of" as it has been used to honor raszagal and shakuras. it could also mean "we will always remember" as befits the nerazim.
to bring the tangent to an end.
Still sends shivers down my spine.
En Taro Zeratul. The Firstborn will live on.
In the beginning he left in search of prophecy because he was the only one that could. Blamed for the loss of their home world, he was the one who could never be the leader and hero they needed. But he could be the hero -- and find the knowledge -- shrouded in darkness that they deserved. Forever vigilant, he was, and always will be,
The Dark Templar
Still coming here for the feels every while.
The music when zeratul cuts the link right after wowwwww, beautiful.
The fact that actually dark templars got banished from Aiur, then welcomed they khalai on Shakuras together with the fact that Zeratul's last line before death as a dark templar is "My life for Aiur", trying to save the Daelaam Hierarch makes this sooooo epic.
Awwh, Zeratul...! This fight scene made me cry, ohh :((
Was a while I watched it and now I remember why!
SO SAD, :(
I've been waiting for you, Zeratul.
***** Greetings.
Aaron Infante Don't tell me, How i Should live xD
Still shed a tear after viewing this more than 30 times
My life for Aiur! Protoss main since early 00's, still use the Nexus in my name after all these years.
I guess he died peacefully in the wisdom he gave his life helping to forge the future he always wanted :)
"my life for aiur... erm i mean Nerzhul!"
IIRC, since Dark Templar have no connection to the Khala, their memories cannot be preserved and their spiritual entity dissipates into the Void, as we saw with Zeratul turning to dust. So goddammit, this hits even harder than Fenix because Zeratul is truly gone ;_;
It hurts hard :(
+buldren0101 nah he disintegrated cause Amon uses his essence to make a new body he says this later in the campaign
This is actually the first Hero I Broke down sobbing in a horrible mess. He was so likable and him dying was so unexpected And i kept thinking "Ah he'll be back they always...Do? w-what? N-No!" ;-;
"My life for Aiur!" -- Zeratul
"My life for Zeratul!" -- Aiur
No matter how much i watch this it always makes me cry.
Zeratul has laid a mark in my heart that can never be removed.
En Taro Zeratul!
The first starcraft I could play since Starcraft 1... and... why did they do this to me?!
Zeratul...the greatest hero of the Protoss :(
He fought against Amon/Artanis, but was severely handicapped by the fact he wasn't trying to kill Artanis.
This guy is an absolute monster. Definitely on Kerrigan's level.
With one defiant swing, he would preserve the future of all Protoss.
Chris Nguyen well said, imo he could have killed artanis 1v1, Zeratul was definetly one of the most powerful guys in Starcraft
Rest in peace Zeratul. You will never be forgotten. My life for aiur.
That "my life for aiur" sent a chill down my spine
1:59 Artanis screams
with no mouth ;]
that part at 2:39 when you see his mask go flitting off was like a kick in the stones.
No i'm not crying, there's creep in my eye.
It-ITS JUST A ZERGLING! SHUT UP IM NOT CRYING!
Tassadar: Greetings brother, I speak to you from the beyond.
Zeratul: Actually...
+MJk Slasher
Tassadar: Oh, another one bites the dust...
Zeratul: Actually, my body turned to dust.
Adun: Too early for jokes Tassadar.
+jpogi gtxcr1 lol
+jpogi gtxcr1 This lifts the depression...
+MJk Slasher
Fenix: Oh come on, that was funny.
Aldaris: No it was not, no one likes your jokes, Tassadar.
+MJk Slasher
Zeratul: I liked it
Aldaris: But he made fun of your death...
Sans: I liked it...
Aldaris: WTF is going on!?
''My life for Aiur...!'' has never been this meaningful.
Me when my parents tell me to get a haircut.
"my life..." and you knew whats up
You know, I like Kerrigan, and Raynor, and Arcturus, but I think Zeratul's the greatest character in all SC universe
Fuck queen bitch. Tychus shouldn’t have hesitated
"My life... for Aiur." most epic line of this great trilogy T_T
En taro Zeratul. Bruh I still get choked up at this scene
2:37 Zeratul doesn't feel so good...
My life..for Aiur.
Goosebumps every time.
zeratul saved everyone literally.not only the protoss but the terrans and zerg too.the protoss better give him a lot of respect make him a saint or something.
I can't stop looking at his nerve cords clipping at 1:57
"MY LIFE....
Artanis was a victim of Khala and guilt over Zeratul, Kerrigan was victim of both Arcturus Mengsk and Overmind (although it turned out to be very hidden good guy) and poor Jim was a victim of betray by Arcturus, Queen of Blades and even his old friend.
i fucking cried at that scene
Jim deserved to be with Sarah at the end.
Zeratul sacrifice himself to save the young Hierarch Artanis so he can lead the Protoss and end Amon. En Taro Zeratul!
1:00
If that psi blade hit Artanis's nerve cords, then Zeratul would still be alive. :(
"My life for Aiur"
Had to hold back some tears on this one... I never cry, but hot damn Zeratul, one of the few characters I remember playing Starcraft as a little kid. I thought he was so cool... And Tassadar and his green tunic...
Entaro Zeratul and Entaro Artanis!!
my life for aiur, never before has that line been such a tearjerker
Zeratul a lass hero of the Galaxy.... You give me a greater gift than u know..
Zeratul is my favorite throughout the entire starcraft universe. Needless to say I'm fully aware that my tearducts are still functional.
So I was listening to Oblivion Awaits and decided to play LOTV's soundtrack to go with this scene. Was messing around muting this scene and playing the soundtrack and it kind of fits with the scene. Mute this scene and start at @0:26 while playing Oblivion Awaits.
this was the closest ive ever come to crying due to a game without actually doing so
Zeratul is my favourite character from all games...this cinematic shocked me hard...
"My life.....for Aiur." Then the badass psi blade activation, is definitely Zeratul's most badass moment ever. En Taro Zeratul.
"He has Corrupted the Khala! Your Nerve Cores Chain you to his will.......They must be removed."
Well, that ruined my day already at 6am. What a day ._.
He may have died in the physical form but he still lives on in the spirit realm.
tim huynh he does not since he was a dark templar. he is gone forever
En Taro Zeratul!! I will never forget you 😪😭
