I got the lens for a trip to the Greek Islands a month ago where I'd be weight constrained, and jumping in and out of zodiacs. I have the z14-24 f2.8 and the z 24-70f4, plus the z70-200 f2.8 in all, this kit screamed for a Peli case ! The I saw the reviews of the 24+200 which I got a few days before leaving for Greece. It was a joy to use! Great to see this review now as well.
Totally agree about the 24-200. It's good for about 90% of my landscape shots. Occasionally I will use my 14-30 F4, or my 20mm F1.8 but the 24-200 is a real workhorse!
Thank you Fiona. Yes the midges have been brutal this year in the last few weeks! I’ve enjoyed summer but look forward to some respite in autumn. I hope you are doing well 😊
Very interesting content Wayne, lovely area you were in with that stream or river. I just invested in a nikon Z 711 with a 24-70 and a Z mount to use other lenses. They have not come yet so meanwhile iam watching vlogs on setting up the camera for landscape etc. Thank you for sharing and my best wishes.
Thanks very much John. I’m glad to hear you have now ordered your camera, I’m sure you’ll love it and the Z 24-70mm is an excellent lens - I’ve found it to be very sharp. I look forward to hearing how you get on with it in the future. Best wishes.
A very good suggestion of practicality in many areas. I have a suggestion for you...while maybe not being the most photogenic in viewing, a face net might be helpful. I use it when the mosquito's are wreaking havoc like your little bugs there. As for the lens, how ironic that I just purchased the Olympus 12-100 pro f4 for the same reasons you've mentioned. Being an m4/3 lens, it's the same exact length as your Nikon lens. How interesting it's been to take one lens with me for landscape shots. Excellent video, Wayne. Thank you!
Thanks very much I appreciate it 😊 I do carry a face net but unfortunately I need to lift it to see clearly through the viewfinder - the midges then find their way past it … I sometimes wear it between shots but once they get under it’s hard to get rid of them. I’m sure you’ll enjoy your new lens I’m finding mine to be a great benefit. Best wishes 👍🏻
The Olympus 12-100 f/4 is a fine lense and beside its optical quality the manual focus clutch enabling true manual focusing within the lens only and the colaboration of IOS and IBIS are gorgious. As far as Nikon Z is concerned I would wait for a good offer of the Nikon Z 24-120 constant f/4.
Hi Wayne. Yes lens selection is always a difficult subject and personal. I completely follow your points you make about the one lens setup. Specially the points of not having to swap lenses and the weight. I started out making woodland photographs of intimate scenes directly with primes. Of course this limits the possibility of choosing the focal length for the scene you want to photograph drastically. In the beginning I tought I would miss a lot of compositions due to the fact of the limiting focal length but strangly enough the fact of limiting yourself to only one focal length (my preferred lens at this moment is the 35mm F2 lens on the Fujifilm X system) somehow did set my creative self free. Now most of the time I do not even think about the focal length I am using. For me with this setup it is all on finding the scenes (compositions) I like using only that fixed focal length, and I am not concerned about the image quality the lens produces. When you shoot a lot with one fixed focal length somehow you get a vision for the scenes that are suited for that focal length at hand. Yes I do have to walk a lot (zoom with my feet), but I like that. I do own more than one prime. Yes I take mostly take 2 or tree primes with me on a woodland shoot. But most of the time I do not change the lenses. Yes I do own a zoomlens (55-200mm Fujifilm) but I hardly use that lens. I only use that lens when I only want to shoot distant compositions. I also do like to do some streetphotography and that is all about using only one fixed focal length :)).
Hi Ruud, thanks for watching and I agree with all your points. Perhaps in the future I will find myself investing in a 50mm prime as I too found that focal length to be excellent for woodland on full frame. I made a video about that a few years ago. It’s refreshing and good for your photography to shoot with only a prime - and of course it’s light to carry too! Prime lenses definitely have their place in a kit for many reasons. Best wishes.
Yep the Z f4 lenses are light and compact and l too bought this lens even though l had the 24/70 due to the ability to cover such a wide focal length with one small and light lens, it is a shame it moves away from f4 so quickly though. If l want to include the night sky l just throw on the 20mm f1.8 as the f2.8 zooms are just too big and heavy for me.
Good aventures while taking images ,I am using my fuji xt3 with the 70-300 for landscape and it is going well forcing myself to change my usual perspective hope all goes well and with less insects in your future best wishes.
Good to hear from you Victor. That is a useful exercise for your photography and I am sure you will find it to be beneficial. Thanks, and yes, hopefully next time there will be less insects! 😀 Best wishes.
Just got this lens yesterday for my Z7II, it really surprised me with the quality of images, on a tripod the difference between the 24-70 f4 is negligible.
Hi, I don’t do a lot of street photography but many people like the Fuji cameras for that. I have owned a Fuji X-T3 and X-T4 and they worked great for landscapes and were quite good for wildlife too so they’d be a good choice. Perhaps one of the Nikon Z series would work well also. I’d advise looking for a setup that’s light for covering those 3 areas that you are interested in. There are many good choices these days but I hope that helps a bit.

Good video Wayne with some familiar looking scenery. The midges were certainly out in force 😄

It's definitely a very good, useful lens and good value for money. Enjoy your new lens.
@@WayneRobertsonPhotography I agree, I have both these lenses which I use on my Z7 for photographing my grand children at play.
It’s a useful lens setup for that 👍🏻
Can you suggest me a camera body which can work good for street, landscape and wildlife photography? Thanks
Hi, I don’t do a lot of street photography but many people like the Fuji cameras for that. May I know whether this lens is environmental seal?
Nikon state it “is sealed to protect from dust and moisture.”
Your perseverance paid off, really liked your 1 to 1 shot. May I ask what focal length did you shoot at, my guess is around 130mm?
Hi Mike, in landscape photography terms it was a difficult day! Glad you like the image, it was taken at around 150mm. Thanks for watching.
