Ryan calling a lifeline, and first being socially graceful is the _real_ definition of Southern. Only thing missing was "Tell your momma I said hey."
He didn't have time because Talia was "going through a tunnel" hahaha!
"I bet he don't know the Fraggle Rock song, either." 😂😂😂
"Even if I was the radish capital of the world, I don't think I'd admit it." 😂😂
I live in "The Radish Capital of the World". Radishes have not been a cash crop for many years but it's still the Radish Capital of...etc.
I can't believe you got a trivia question from my little town in Tennessee, which had the world's largest treehouse until it sadly burned. It was built by a preacher.
I think I speak for all of Mississippi when I say we love Ryan!
Here, here! We love all y’all! Please come visit anytime! And tell your mama’nem we said hey!
So, my college roommate is the great-great-great granddaughter of John B. Stetson. We went to Stetson University, in DeLand, FL. My great-great-great uncle, Henry DeLand, founded DeLand, FL and started DeLand Academy. When the town’s orange crops started to fail, John Stetson donated money to help save the town and Henry renamed DeLand Academy to Stetson to thank John for his tremendous help.
Interesting factoids there!
I love this! Thank you for sharing this story. ❤
You guys being roommates feels like things came full circle 😮
I'd have bet stetson anywhere but ms 5bh lol... I own several, it's what I wear all the time and had no idea
I have been to the Jim Henson Museum in Leland MS. Was driving by and saw a huge painting of Kermit on a tall water tower. I asked myself why on earth would Kermit be on a water tower? Found the museum nearby.
Ryan’s laughing…😂 It’s the best!!!
Adam didn’t know Faith Hill? She literally has a song called Mississippi Girl.
Adam is not southern. 😂. There’s a lot people don’t know about them. They’re the farthest from being southern roots Guess
Ryan and Adam's clothing is getting closer to matching
Don't tell them that or they'll start doing it on purpose
Watching this video about Mississippi brought back a HILARIOUS childhood memory of mine!!!
When I was about eight years old my family moved from New Jersey to Colorado. We drove there in two vehicles. My dad and two of my sisters went in one car, accompanying the moving van; my mom and oldest sister and I went in the station wagon.
It was quite an adventure. When we neared Mississippi, I sat in the backseat and listened to my mom and sister discussing where we were going to stop for the night.
They kept talking about a Mrs. Hippy, and how we were going to stop there for the night. So I asked them who is Mrs. Hippy? Where does she live?
There was a strangled silence from the front seat for a few minutes which puzzled me. And then with laughter filled voices my mother and sister explained to me that “Mrs. Hippy” wasn’t a person but was both a state and a river.
They then went on to enlighten me further by spelling the name of this state and river out to me. And that is how and when I learned how to SPELL Mi-ss-i-ss-i-pp-i and learned all about that state and river…. ROFLOL
hahaha! That's pretty funny!
I do have a question though... why would you stop in Mississippi if you're going from New Jersey to Colorado? Extra sight seeing?
@@lishayost444 - My mom and sister were deciding where to stop for the night. This was back in the 70's, and road maps were the only way to navigate. My mom didn't want to drive in unfamiliar areas in the dark, so she and my sister had to figure out where to stop every night. I can't remember how many days and nights we spent on the road to Colorado, but it took us about a week to get there.
do you remember which town you stopped in? My guess would be either Fulton or Tupelo, and you came in on Highway 78, and back then it was a two lane road. I lived a few miles west of Tupelo, and had friends and class mates that lived in Fulton. Unless you came into the state a bit further south of there then it could have been Columbus or even Meridian.
@@jeffreyharville1918 I honestly have no idea what towns we stopped in, or even what roads or route my mom took.. Although I seem to remember there were wide open spaces of fields and farms and such on either side of the road for long periods of time, so it was probably state highways we were on.
I DO know we stopped in Lincoln, Nebraska for a couple days and nights at my grandmother's house. I confess I remember more about THAT part of the trip than anything else. That and the whole "Mrs. Hippy" geography lesson. LOL
Oh and I DO remember one other thing about the Mississippi River, is that the bridge my mom drove on when we crossed over it seemed to go on F O R E V E R ... Bear in mind I was only a little kid at the time, so what felt like FOREVER to ME was probably not a very long time in actuality...
We did stop for the night shortly after crossing over the river, but I couldn't tell you what town or city that was in.
I’m a little bit shook Ryan didn’t know who Jim Henson was. I think it’s almost my bedtime. 😂 so old
The Sweet Potato Queens are timeless! And hysterical. Talia, you have found you next favorite book. A perfect summer/beach read. You can thank Ms. Diane later. 😊
Fun fact: Julia’s brother Eric was born in my home city of Biloxi, MS
Also, as of at least the 90’s when I left the Barq’s Root Beer original family was still in Biloxi
I’ve met Eric before when he was in Biloxi but didn’t know he was born there.
I knew she was tied to Mississippi! I remembered thinking her and my mom were born in the same town.
I've been to the five-points where Hootie and the Blowfish were formed, it's in SC. I've also been to that funky little spot outside Athens, GA, on the Atlanta Highway. I've seen Lynyrd Skynyrd play Freebird live, Eric Clapton sing Tears in Heaven, and John Fogerty perform Green River.
I went with my foster mom to visit family I also knew in Mississippi. We visited D'Iberville, Biloxi, and Ridgeland areas.
Thank you Mississippi. I love Pine-Sol.
You’re welcome😊 we have a lot of a pines here
I'm originally from Mississippi, I now live in Sweden, and strange as it may sound, I really miss Pine-Sol.
I love Pine-Sol too. I clean my house with it and use it in laundry.
This was fun. I'm from Tennessee, but I lived in Mississippi for 11 years. And I knew a lot of these.
Faith Hill even has a song called Mississippi Girl😅
Apparently these guys are not fans or they would have known that.
right? I was singing it in my head during that question.
Do one for every southern state ❤
I'm from Mississippi and I had to do a project in Mississippi studies last year on Mississippi. Ironically I chose Faith Hill and Jim Henson for different categories of the project (not that I remember bc that was almost a year ago😅)
I also went to a museum with my family once and I THINK I heard something there about us being the Catfish Farm Capitol (idk for sure tho, that was over two years ago😂)
Belzoni, in the Delta, is the catfish capital of the world.
I wonder how well they would do on Alabama trivia, and for the rest of the states in the south. That would be really fun to see. (Also more Slaw & Order would be great)
Ryan should get neg 15 for not knowing Jim Henson.
1:24 Never EVER disagree with a southern granny! Lol!
Adam, we’ll let that football joke go. It’s a crazy tough conference! And division! Plus we are still celebrating back to back National College Baseball Championships here so we are thankful. 🎉 As a native who worked as a travel nurse for 10 years all over, I truly learned how spoiled we are in The South. ❤
Most people associate Britney with Kentwood, but she was born in McComb.
When one of the options recorded a song entitled "Mississippi Girl," I think it's safe to say she's from Mississippi.
That was a low blow on the football thing, Adam. 😉
As a Mississippi girl born in the Catfish Capital city of Belzoni, I was shocked that I didn't ACE this quiz!! I learned so much. Y'all do come visit Mississippi.
Howdy fellow Delta person! Used to drive through Belzoni a lot when I worked in Cleveland, never got to stop and visit though.
Nooo too much racism
A little sad that only one person knew the Sweet Potato Queens, especially just having had St Patrick's Day. :(
I couldn’t believe Talia didn’t know the Sweet Potato Queens. We’re not that old 😂
But it ain't until this coming Saturday.
I live near the billboard for the used to be cactus plantation. Which is sad because we were looking forward to going!
"Hootie" & "The Blowfish" were guys that Darius knew at USC. One wore glasses, and the other had a big cheeks.
The name was chosen after Darius (and maybe the other band members) heard someone say, "It's Hootie & the Blowfish," when the two guys walked into a hangout spot.
That Powerline shirt... I must have it!! Goofey Movie is one of my favorites. ❤ Ryan has good taste.
Adam had the greatest Bible reference. "Snakes are probably needed the most."
Is he Hootie or the Blowfish 😂
Also the shock of finding out who Jim Henson was. 😂
I've been to Gulfport for Navy training and Cleveland for work. Gulfport was great being at the coast. Cleveland was middle of nowhere. Both were great, loved seeing that side of our great country. Will never forget The Fighting Okra.
I remember the sweet potato capital thing because of a rest area I passed through once (while driving my Granny to the casino) had a giant information stand about it.
Fred Smith strted FEDEX in Little Rock, AR. He outgrew the airfiend and Little Rock would not build an additional runway so he moved to Memphis.
Britney grew up in Kentwood Louisiana but was definitely born in Mississippi because Kentwood is right next to Mississippi
She was born in McComb
@@jdeang3531 She also went to school in McComb
I got spend a week at Meridian Naval Air Station for a Grants Writing Class back in Oct 2010 or 3rd Summer as it is known in Oklahoma. That forgotten Southern State.
Federal Express was based in Little Rock, AR for the first 2 years of its operation.
They're all making me feel SMART
I love this! I got a few wrong, but not that many. I should have kept score. I lived in Mississippi for 11 years, so I guess a little of it rubbed off.
My parents were both from Mississippi.. its like coming home
Been to 30 state capitals. I'm from the north, and Jackson is in my top 5! Jackson is a hospitable place with great food and lovely people!
I think it's either the murder or crime capital of the country.
Jackson is a hole
Jackson - as well as any other city - can exist on both positive & negative lists. I appreciate the positive being stressed by the 1st comment because it does have great food and hospitality. I have lived in multiple states and MS was still top of the list...even with the negatives.
Ryan needs to turn in his Southern card for not knowing who Jim Henson is! I am a huge fan of Jim Henson and all of his work.
“Radish capital of the world.”
Not sure I’d claim that either but…🤷🏼♂️lol!
We all know it’s squirrels that are banned from church in Mississippi.
I’m going to ole miss in august and I’m from SC so when I saw this video I had to watch it lol
Hotty Toddy!
I’m Apostolic Pentecost and I’ve never heard of us having snakes in our services. Just the Holy Ghost ☺️
I live in Laurel, MS and I had no idea about those titles accept for Catfish, sweet potatoe, and root beer lol.
My family lives in Laurel and I did. Catfish farming is a huge industry in MS and the Barq family who founded the root beer live in Biloxi.
Potato...
Geeez, Faith has a song called Mississippi girl.... turn in your southern card !
😂 ironic that Adam said, if it were Georgia history, he would nail it. At that moment, he mistook the Georgia native, Julia Roberts, for a Mississippian.
Adam is the farthest from southern roots I’d like to see skits with real southern rooted people like myself because I see the frozen Mac and cheese of this couple It’s just obvious
I got most of these right. Yay. My Mississippi relatives would be proud. ❤
But part of it is I know people who know these celebrities so that helped. 😂
I think it's funny how Adam said he'd be nailing Georgia trivia after he got the Faith Hill question wrong, because Julia Roberts *is* from Georgia. Smyrna, Georgia.
I'm from Mississippi and don't know half of this 😂
I love MS because they’re my neighbors.
4:25 "Ryan didn't know the MUPPET MAN?"
Mississippi is my home state
I would love to see the Southerners come to Florida, and do one of these.
What has 4 eyes but cannot see???
Answer: Mississippi. It has 4 “I”s.
Half a century here in Memphis and I didn't know Fred Smith wasn't from here!
Bless your hearts!
Great video! Who knew all this craziness!!
Faith Hill literally sings a song called, “Mississippi Girl,” so that was kind of a freebie.
-reptiles illegal in church
Nope! Because i’ve done it 😂 brought my pet lizard once 😂
Love y’all ❤️👏🏻❤️👏🏻
So how many times did Kailey have to do a forehead palm slap? Just kidding, that was really entertaining.
I love these guys, their personalities and their accents. So nice to be in a safe space where people can express pride in being Southern and learn/celebrate Southern cultures. I consider myself Southern although I spent most of my childhood elsewhere and don’t have any of the accents. My whole family is Southern and I am culturally Southern.
Also if Ryan is a Jefferson from Alabama we might be related. Ryan, what county are your people from? Mine are from Sumter.
Mississippi Pentecostal girl, hate to disappoint but no we don’t handle snakes. Love the trivia though, you guys are hilarious.
I have a friend who works at the science museum and she brought a bag of snakes to Bible study. Just set them by the door and didn’t say anything 😂
What is Arkansas most thankful for?
Mississippi 😅😂😂😅😅😅
As someone who has moved back and forth between AR & MS 5 times in my life, this is 1000% accurate 😂😂
I new none of these. ❤️ to everyone on this channel
You would think Ryan would know who JIM HANSON was from the trivia night with ELVIS.
I love Talia’s disclaimer - “I 100% trust you… in regards to catfish.” 😂
“Oklahoma is no where near the south”????? Those are fightin’ words coming from a guy who didn’t know who Jim Henson was!
Someone smack Ryan for me. I grew up south of New Orleans but have lived in Oklahoma the last 16 years. It’s filled with lovely, friendly people. We’re southern adjacent. 😁
...it might be illegal to bring snakes to church in Kentucky, but folks do it anyway 👀👀
Being from Alabama, we always said the 2 best things coming from Mississippi was I 59 and hwy 78 but now there are more routes lol
Federal Express, now called FedEx, was started in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Fun quiz.
Reverse trivia, *Where was Ryan born?* _(For those that didn't watch Lolly Gabbin')_ 😂😂😅
uh oh 😂😂😂
😂I thought of that as well.
Can’t bring reptiles but squirrels 🐿️ are welcome
i knew Faith Hill because of her song Mississippi Girl 4:09
As a Mississippian I’ll admit I learned a few things
I didn’t know we were the root beer capital
Plus
I didn’t know we had a cactus plantation at one time haha
we are home to now a hideous State flag but oh well still love my State
The Barq family lives in Biloxi.
Even us Mississippians will never understand Mississippi 😂
True😂
So true.
That was a lot of fun, even if i didn't know any of them.
I'm not going to take a trip TOO Mississippi!! I will take trips inside of Mississippi though. I was born in Pascagoula.
I don't know what the question is, but the answer is *FRY IT*
I live in MS, and I actually knew the one about Faith Hill…Beaccccaaauuuse I’ve driven by her parents house!
And about Britney Spears because I actually know somebody who went to high school with her!
Fun fact: The house I lived in when I was a kid, located on the reservoir in Mississippi, belonged to one of Faith Hill's friends.
The only one I truly knew was the worlds tallest treehouse. Only because I lived within 30 miniutes of it.
Faith Hill wrote a song called "Mississippi Girl".... lol
I thought you did Mississippi a day or two ago. But I'll take this as there has to be more to learn.
Being from Ms, trust me there is so much more to learn!!!!
Random Kailey interjection! Hi Kailey 👋. Ok back to video.
Tow trucks were also invented in TN
Jimmy Buffett Mississippi and Darius South Carolina
RYAAAAAAN Us Oklahoman's RESENT THAT!!
One of my Mama's teachers, if I remember correctly, was actually Faith Hill's sister. (Some close relation.) So I knew that one.
Cute and funny episode. Informative as well.
