I remember grinding this out when it got added. Didn't care if good or bad, I fell in love with this ever since Blazing Angels 2 had it (it also made me fall in love with the Meteor and the Vampire) and I NEEDED it.
I really liked the Ho-229. That thing turns like an actual UFO, at least for a turn or two before it loses all of its speed. Absolutely no rudder control makes it kind of miserable to make fine aiming adjustments, though. Neat, unique plane. Wish we had more like it.
Honestly rudder controls are better than roll rate. If you manually control the rudder it swings the plane pretty hard, just the instructor sucks at it, but no matter what you do you have to start rolling 3 business days before your enemy makes a turn
this plane was my first goal in WT and finally got it when F-89 was at its peak. ended up flying it more often in custom battles than real battles because the flight characteristics is just not my thing but i really love this plane and also because i found out i dogfight better in arado speaking of which, Ar 234 C-3 video when :D
started WT just yesterday, feels so hard to play since i get literally obliterated in every game BUT I found my goal: the HO 229 is what i’ll be playing for (at least for now). With that being said, do you have an idea of how many months it might take to get it?

The Horten Ho 229 is definitely one of the most unique and futuristic aircraft designs from WWII-a sleek, almost otherworldly look that feels way ahead of its time. There’s something about that rear view, too, that just captures the imagination. It's true, Europe had some incredible designs back then, and you’re right that the EF2000 doesn’t quite carry the same distinctive edge.
@@Cryo_Cake First flown on October 21, 1947, this post-war design took inspiration from Nazi prototypes-maybe even developed with their input, kind of like the Apollo program. The Ho 229 is probably one of the sleekest, most sci-fi-looking planes ever made. Its compact, animal-inspired wing shape is way more unique than just a huge flying wing like the YB-49. If you line it up with the B-2 Spirit, the resemblance to the Ho 229 is much stronger than to the YB-49. The U.S. even has an original Ho 229 in one of its museums! Hope I get to see it in person someday!
There we go... noice been waiting for this one. A beast in ground rb and in my experience the stealth ammo ends tanks much more reliable than the armored target ammo despite having a little less penetration.
I know a lot of people were happy when Gaijin took the afterburner affect off non-afterburning jet aircraft, but I think that this plane in particular looked much sharper with them. Knife-edged, one might put it.
Been waiting for this one :D I still love this plane even though it's pretty funky to fly, this was the plane that made me want to grind the German air tree just because it looks so cool.
I've only really started playing it seriously today and have been having a blast in GRB. The awful roll and yaw, especially at low speeds, can be annoying but as long as I keep my energy up its a manageable issue. Surprisingly at least two thirds of my kills have been Shilkas xD
sometimes i am forgetting this plane is in war thunder and thinking why have they not added this one yet but there you go imagine if the brothers lived long enough to see the b2 fly
The Ho 229 represents one of the most fascinating aircraft ever produced by Germany, and many individuals I've spoken with have questioned how such a remarkable machine could exist in an era prior to fly-by-wire technology. However, as I frequently assert, when it comes to Germany, one should never say never. According to my understanding, Hermann Göring initiated an order dubbed the "Three Times One Thousand" project, which aimed to develop a fighter capable of flying a distance of a thousand kilometers at a speed of a thousand kilometers per hour while delivering a one-thousand-kilogram bomb onto a target. The Ho 229 was intended to be the embodiment of this project. Nevertheless, Germany's urgent demand for fighters ultimately overshadowed the bomber aspect. Additionally, I believe the brothers received communication from the Luftwaffe high command, expressing a desperate need for a long-range bomber. It seems they planned to scale up the Ho 229 and equip it with six engines. It's a pity we don't have ho-18a yet, but regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed the review.
@SoS-1zyx yeah I do agree it is a pity, which is why if the Ho18 does come to war Thunder I'll be so happy, and if I'm being honest I would actually find what if aircraft be far more interesting than some carbon copy of F-15 or of f16, and again I think a update aimed pacifically at German wonder weapons would be very interesting.
This might have changed in recent updates. But i found that as long as your controll cables weren't taken out you can fly the Dorito through pretty much anything. I have tens of one wing landings in normal RB matches with this thing. Yes you loose manoeuvrability and cant dogfight anymore... But id say its wrong to call ot fragile.
Believe it or not - it is! I had this out to channel members before the trailer for the update came out (sadly, I don't get any advanced notice or anything of Gaijin's schedule for content updates).
I think planes like these are fun, but should probably be event vehicles like these Maus. So that everyone has a chance later if they don’t unlock it their first time around. It is just so experimental and different, and ultimately never saw service. However Americans also had some prototype flying wing bombers, which I think would also be great for such an event.
Loved this thing when going down the german tree. One should enjoy this feverdream of engineering, as there is only dissapointment till the first Mig21 in this part of the tree, at least in my oppinion. Didnt feel the bad rudder when playing the bigger issue for me was the bad roll rate especially when on high speed or near the ground
Heard about the Horton being better in Simulator battles or turning off the instructor due to the "rudder" basically being an air break and costing you energy. Cant confirm though because I didn't research it yet.
I just miss the roll rate :( also another potential con: massive target with that huge wingspan. Also a double edged feature: low ROF means what looks like low ammo count lasts forever but shit will fly between your shots.
Question, how do you do 180 turn? A slow mouse movement, fast mouse movement, or a fast mouse movement while tapping w? Because i found that keeping that thing horizontal is better for maintaining speed and altitude.. i think option 2 is better but i have no data and would like others opinion.
oh yay i was waiting for a video on this weird thing! not to be a ~suggester~ especially right before/during the big update but i would like to humbly request a new video on the mirage 2000-5F now that it's been bumped all the way to the highest br in the game with mica-ems
Pretty sure irl the wooden wing structure of the 229 wouldn't take half the G load the in-game model does. I'm also dubious about the pitch authority that the flight model has too, there is very little lever arm from the control services to the center of pressure, unlike in a design with a tail, so any force generated by deflecting the flaps is going to generate a really small pitching force.
Well the aileron area is quite large and they work together to provide pitch so maybe Horton really did maneuver well. But the maximum overload was only 7g. The destructive overload is 12.
I vaguely recall that many years ago they made the guns super inaccurate and made it hemorrhage energy in a turn, have they rolled back these nerfs? I feel like they haven't. Either way, it's tied for my favorite jet in the game with the sagitario 2
I've had it spaded for years, and don't play it often enough to speak to nerfs/rollbacks, but as you can see in the footage I didn't have a lot of trouble with gun accuracy - mostly just cyclic rate in deflection shots.
This review is great and all.. but you missed the most important part of the planes which is NOT the turn speed. It's the maximum speed of the aircraft; it's faster than everything it faces. With a little discipline in turns, and using it NOT as a turnfighter but as a boom-n-zoomer, it can be MONSTROUS.
I watch the video and enjoyed it then something came to mind How is it that Tim has never done a review of ANY me-262? I could've sworn he did but I was wrong maybe I was confusing it with another plane or jet Idk but it surprised me
