How the hell are they gonna test Stealth at 8.7 BR against jets that have no radars? It's an oxymoron. Put this thing at 11.0 vs late 70's jets that have SARMs and rework your bloody Team Deathmatch into something meaningful that can make use of all the technology you're modeling in the game. They are dropping dumb bombs at 12.0 in order to grind despite having GBU's! Make high value targets that require precision weapons to be destroyed because they are protected by SAM's. Make Stealth Bombers being able to bypass SAM's with their Stealth. Make it so the players on the enemy team have to guess or split to cover both targets.
it has also no missles, it would be not fair, from another side plane with guided bombs isn't fair for 8.7 ground vehicles, spaa will be in truble rip hovet, rip m163 their radras already are almost sueless yet. they will be detroyed from few kolometres while not being able to lock on target at all.
Exactly, they need to entirely revise how the game is played. People find aircraft easy enough in ground rb. Remove spotting from air realistic. Make radars useful beyond lobbing missiles. Change the objectives. Enduring confrontation is such a fun game mode. Except it’s only in air sim. Why is it not in air rb??? Gaijin just doesn’t get it
i feel like this plane is more or less just an excuse for the public to test the stealth for gaijin, its not really meant to be actually viable in a match
From the dev stream, apparently stealth works best when in head on towards the radar source, making the F15's radar for example only able to lock at like 200 meters I think.
@19DESERTFOX91 Its stealth from the front and rear because its made to go to a target, attack, and leave Underneath due to the flat surface its not as stealth, which is a design flaw due to the necessity of... yknow making it fly And the sides, the tail is a huge giveaway
Not a War Thunder player but I'd recommend looking at how the F-117 is actually used. When going Wild Weasel (Against anti-air) it would fly low and use ground cover to help obscure, and pop up over target as close in as possible. Flying these things up in the middle of the air during the day makes you super visible and isn't optimal use case. I'm sure there's in-game considerations but this would be your knife in the night type fighter, even in Yugoslavia back in '99 NATO didn't use these in high risk areas during the day because if you can see it you can shoot it. It was overconfidence and using the same air corridors for bombing runs that led to the famous shootdown (at least that's the US assessment - talent goes a long way regardless of old Soviet anti-air). If they model the plane somewhat accurately it should be hard to lock radar front on, but sides, rear (somewhat) and from bottom should show up easier. IR should only lock if you're below, or side on or anywhere behind as the plane is designed to minimize front on IR. If you're able to fly the F-117 in dev against these launchers I'd love to see how you manage!
4:32 it's not just interesting; it's supposed to work like that lol; remember the nighthawk has all those angles to deflect radar waves (it was built in the time before radar absorbent materials existed) so if any of the deflected waves happened to head back towards the tracking radar; you would be able to re-acquire it again after a period
@@randomowykolegazinternetu doesn't make it unable to be tracked by radar, just means it is a lot harder. And if it gets radar from the wrong angle, yes it will get locked onto and taken out. Stealth doesn't mean absolutely cannot be locked onto. Maybe you should stop with the nonsense bullshitting
Gaijin making this a squadron vehicle continues to show their reluctance to fix their game at all to facilitate any gameplay outside of fighter death balls.

@@DawgIVLife Just like SIDAM's optical lock behaves like an IR lock, and the UV tracking mistrals also behaves like IR, I don't think Gaijin is actually simulating optical lock they're just using random neglected checkboxes (':
@@micaheiber1419 The SIDAM's optical lock _definitely_ is TV, it practically cannot lock onto an aircraft at night. And assuming you meant TV guided mistral, there is no TV guided mistral, they're both IR.
@@2KDrop I speak of both. The Mistrals are badly modelled, they are not simple IR missiles. They were multi-spectrum missiles, yet Gaijin never modelled their systems in whole (because it would require them to model UV etc). The TV guidance on the gun is also horrible, they took the IR code and then added some checkboxes, as I already said. i.e. doesn't work at night. But it also retains the weakness of IR i.e. unable to lock onto cooler objects at a distance (helicopters; and just like the Mistrals, which shouldn't noticeably have this weakness because of its OTHER sensor capabilities), can't see through even the thinnest water vapour (despite light going through it fine; again, this shouldn't even be affecting the Mistral so much, because UV goes through clouds in a similar fashion to visible light), and better in rear aspect vs jets. This vehicle is butchered by both of its main systems being effectively unmodelled (more correctly, cloned from tech that isn't comparable).
5:10 You were testing if you could lock with IRST but did not turn IRST on. You turned the search radar off, but since IRST was not toggled on you're still locking with the tracking radar. If you have an IRST lock it will say "TRK IR" instead of just "TRK" on the radar scope. Not that it really matters, the IRST can still track the F-117 just fine in my own testing. ~10km or farther range. But just something to note if you do future testing that this is how the IRST tracking works.

I am quite sure that the stealth should be made better, since its the one thing that the plane has going for it. The actual stealth and all that is classified, so balance should be more important than realism.
It’s better if it’s going directly at the radar source so the angled radar reflective panel things can work better. IRL it could get locked but immediately looses lock so some leaked documents would be out after a week in guessing

I’ll be honest the stealth isn’t looking stealth. Especially when IRST can lock it before it even gets in range for bombing and the Pantsir radar just effortlessly finds it at 15km.

remember its work in progress tho, also in real life is not 100% stealth, sadly the F-117 is not very much advanced like the F-22 in stealth capacity. Irl it was hard to catch him at the distance but 10km is very close to avoid strong radars specially with that complete flat belly which was admitted irl to be a challenge in order to make this thing stealth but also able to fly. We will see how it turns out when the update is done and finished
I think its kinda funny that he has them flying so high up when it would be right on the deck too low for the different types of locks that work on it. By the time you know its there the bomb is already on its way and the best you can hope for is your missile kills it before you die or before it is again behind the trees and terrain
With how slow and clunky it is plus the terrible climb rate, I think 8.7 might actually be a good GRB BR for it. Sure, radars won't pick it up but they'll be 10x more likely to shoot it down with cannons than with missiles. We've had similar issues with other planes in the past.
For how the stealth technology works in real life I think it is very well represented in the game, it is not invisibility is simply a reduction of the profile, front is the most optimal way being the side and back returning a larger radar signal, and when you open the bomb doors loses its stealth capability as all stealth aircraft, in real life they shot down 2 f-117 for that
@@christopherchartier3017yeah he fibs, the F-117 in game is worse cause even extremely powerful ground based radar systems in Serbia and Iran couldn’t find them. They were only found in Austria because another plane was right next to them
if stealth is modeled properly, it will on the depend on the angle the plane is relative to the radar, if the f117 is completely belly up to you, its gonna have a big radar signature, alot of stealth planes have RAM, but they dont just disappear off of radar, youll be able to lock it from below and above- but from the side, front and back at shallow angles you will struggle. it looks like it was modeled properly to me in all fairness
and IR locking isnt hindered at all, idk if there were measures installed on the plane to reduce the engines heat signature- id assume so, but id guess you can still lock it with anything heatseeking
The radar cross section would be smaller when observed by ground radar if the aircraft is flying level. The moment the F117 turns, the radar-incident angles are changed and it may appear on radar. Observed from above the F117's belly, the radar should ping it when pretty close.
5:11 the pantsir can still use and lock with its tracking radar, not only IRST. And its tracking radar (i think the only one in the entire game) doesn't give off RWR warnings. The F117 doesn't even have a chance.
I'd love to slowly see a rank 9 evolving w stealth jets. Would be kinda fun to fly with the f-22, f-35 and su-57 for example. And also, Could you add the f/a-18 at one point? It'd be the one jet that's missing in rank 8
people when they learn stealth jet doesnt mean invisible to radar but harder to spot from "certain" aspects allowing them to close the distance to target more so than a normal jet would, off course radar will see it when you're looking at the flat fucking bottom of the thing..or really any aspect that isnt front/back/and limited for the sides
What I think will happen. What I know about the capabilities is that the Aircraft has. Pros: - Low Heat signatures overall so Radar & Visible spectrum would be Near-impossible to see. - Primarily was used during Night Operations. Due to the Stealth capabilities during the traversal - Daytime strikes will be pointless and useless. - The Engine is also impressive. The Exhaust is a specialty type where the Engine cools the airflow out the rear as a feature... as mentioned prior Heat-seekers and SPAA will struggle to acquire - target or the Missile will have the possibility of Missing it's target completely. - But, They also don't know that the Aircraft has ECM: Meaning that it will disrupt the missile improving evasive manuvers to be made. - Stealth Capabilities are being tested. This means that we are likely going to experience a Semi-Realistic version of Stealth Capabilities. - This is a pre-warmup to the B-2 Bomber. Which is going to carry a lot more bombs and be next in line if the Stealth is successful (So let it be for now.) - I also theorize that the Aircrafts speed is going to improve and physics are going to take a pinnacle role in War Thunder. - The Aircraft supports Early ECM technology in an aircraft: Rendering the Aircraft invisible on radar & Assault based weapons (Except bullets) - Your Name will not appear and there will be no Contrail. Cons: - Well as you can see the F-117 Nighthawk is within its name. "Night Hawk" Primarily this Aircraft is best suited during night operations rather day. - The aircraft is slow. (But the upside that it's really good at climbing and reaching maximum altitude in a short time.) - The Aircraft obviously has no guns. So, This Aircraft will require a new specific Specialty target for players to attack that is exclusive to Stealth Bombers. (Such as major Airfields or VIP Targets) - The Aircraft is hilariously easy to see in the sky as you are basically a flying Dorito. SPAA will be able to spot you if your too low... (Similar to Keen Vision you won't see it until you are too late) - It's a bummer that it's a squadron vehicle and requires being in a squadron to use... - As mentioned before your name & Contrail will not be visible... (except for the Rear & Sides of the Aircraft) Conclusion: I think the vehicle is going to look amazing and be part of War Thunder... Though I personally have yet to earn my way to the jets due to the long ass grind... But that is what the journey gets you. I'm skeptical about how they will proceed with this Aircraft as players already assume it's useless. But I heavily disagree... Emulating Stealth capabilities with no hands-on experience is extremely difficult and the technicality of how it works is not explainable... So Gaijin will likely find benefit by adding a new game-mode or version of base destroy. in GRB: There is a set of targets that they must protect at all cost. Which planes & Tanks will be involved in a GRB Game-Mode... If not, Well Gaijin likes to Restrict gamers from enjoying their game to the fullest or progress to early. (By the time this post is done) The Sixth Generation fighters would have already released by now.
the reason the F-4C can lock the F117 from behind is because stealth aircraft aren't meant to deflect from behind. The F-35 and F-22 would easily be locked from a rear angle. Once you understand how RCS works (radar cross section) and how stealth aircraft are created, it makes sense. They are most stealthiest when directly looking at them, the more side angle you see the large the RCS gets and therefore the easier it is to detect and lock a stealth aircraft. from directly behind a stealth craft, the RCS is nearly at its largest if you disregard a direct vew from underneath or above.
They can't even get the squadron number and squadron patch right. The tails show the 9th Fighter Squadron, but the patch on the side is of the 8th Fighter Squadron.
I think it would fit EC Naval if they ever get to the br range the F-117 is on. With 2 bombs in Air SB it isn't gonna do any better. It will feel nice but just that.
It could theoretically be armed with a pair of AIM-9s. There is speculation there was a plan to use F-117s to sneak up on and down the Soviet A-50 Mainstay.
Stealth is not total immunity, “stealth” planes are just hard enough to spot/lock to get within striking range and dip. For example: I’ve heard (not entirely sure of the accuracy) from a few different sources that even the f35 can be detected by modern radars at roughly 15km… but it can strike from much farther and run away.
DLSS was made in junction with Raytracing as Raytracing hemorrhages performance, so for basically everyone without an RTX 3090 or better, you'll also have that turned on for shooter-worthy FPS. They've allegedly altered DLSS in War Thunder for the release of Raytracing, and you can even see new modes for it in the settings dropdown menu. DLSS has been awful on a technical scale in War Thunder for the longest time (I don't know what iteration it uses), especially since in games like War Thunder, DLSS smudges or otherwise blurs the fine details you need at a moment's notice.
It does not have frame generation so its a older one but yea I don't know how even on low ray tracing settings I go from 250FPS to 14fps on a test drive runway.
The more I think about it, you can still bomb a pantsir from 13+km with JDAM if you’re high enough and fast enough. Of course it’ll take some time with the F-117 but it’s possible I think. Not bad
You need to manually switch lock mode to IRST with either a dedicated button or quick menu (Y), closing search radar just closes search radar, that's it, you still can use track one on most spaa (not on all because gaijin logic or smth)
They did say if you are lined up with it facing you that it’s easy to lock but if the plane itself is at an angle then it’s harder so maybe test that theory
I’m going to be once again unaffected by this as an Italian main, I’m gonna continue using my SIDAM with its optical tracking so I can lock anything without them knowing I’m locked.
RCS is different by the each wavelengths, so this makes sense basically. Stealth design is not effective to all wavelength. You only choose some to most effective for.
the worst and a really old stealth aircraft can be locked on from the side easily? it’s kinda like it was meant to be detected from the side rather than the front
don’t believe me? the front is angled in a way that RADAR waves fails to bounce back to what transmitted them meanwhile the bottom and sides are relatively smooth and flat which makes it easier to lock on from those angles during the collapse of Yugoslavia, the (former, now Serbian) Yugoslav Army was able to shoot down a F-117 due to getting a lock as the bottom returned a signature after the bomb bays opened and gave the aircraft a more distinct shape
The stealth is to do with radar cross section, so if it's flying pretty much above you giving you a massive flat surface for your radar to see, you'll get a radar ping, and IRST will have very little issue with locking it compared to how well they usually function. Neat little gimmic vehicle that has interesting IRL history and looks great but is basically useless.
massive FLAT surface would act as a mirror giving you next to no return ... what you need for radar is flat surface thats 90 degrees to the radar to get as much wave reflection BACK to you as possible ... flat surface angled like this would reflect everything AWAY from the radar giving zero return from that angle all the surface area you would get signature on would be edges of wings that are also angled away from the radar ... from that angle the F-117 should be all but invisible to that garbage PESA radar ...
i need to point this out, turning off search radar doesnt mean it switch to irst, u need to switch it manually and see irst text above the radar map, in the video you are just trying to use its tracking radar to gain a lock (tungie and pantsir irst does not display range btw)
Realistically the bombbay should open and close instantly when you press rhe drop bonb button, it should not need to be opened individally. And opening the bombay should make it more easily lockable
I feel like incorporating a stealth fighter in a video game such as war thunder, where radar and missiles are key to winning, is really detrimental to the game, especially since most of the countries in war thunder have never developed a good stealth fighter

It’s not even a fighter tf

For how the stealth technology works in real life I think it is very well represented in the game, it is not invisibility is simply a reduction of the profile, front is the most optimal way being the side and back returning a larger radar signal, and when you open the bomb doors loses its stealth capability as all stealth aircraft, in real life they shot down 2 f-117 for that

if stealth is modeled properly, it will on the depend on the angle the plane is relative to the radar, if the f117 is completely belly up to you, its gonna have a big radar signature, alot of stealth planes have RAM, but they dont just disappear off of radar, youll be able to lock it from below and above- but from the side, front and back at shallow angles you will struggle. it looks like it was modeled properly to me in all fairness
and IR locking isnt hindered at all, idk if there were measures installed on the plane to reduce the engines heat signature- id assume so, but id guess you can still lock it with anything heatseeking

It’s not always IRST on vehicles that track with the search antenna down. Most of these vehicles often have a track radar mounted elsewhere
I play sim and seems pretty good addition, and the cockpit looks awesome
the angle on the plane has a big impact, yes if the plane flys over your you will easily detect it, you should be testing from a side view too
The radar cross section would be smaller when observed by ground radar if the aircraft is flying level.

Su 57 is a joke
people when they learn stealth jet doesnt mean invisible to radar but harder to spot from "certain" aspects allowing them to close the distance to target more so than a normal jet would, off course radar will see it when you're looking at the flat fucking bottom of the thing..or really any aspect that isnt front/back/and limited for the sides
What I think will happen.
What I know about the capabilities is that the Aircraft has.
Pros:
- Low Heat signatures overall so Radar & Visible spectrum would be Near-impossible to see.
- Primarily was used during Night Operations. Due to the Stealth capabilities during the traversal - Daytime strikes will be pointless and useless.
- The Engine is also impressive. The Exhaust is a specialty type where the Engine cools the airflow out the rear as a feature... as mentioned prior Heat-seekers and SPAA will struggle to acquire
- target or the Missile will have the possibility of Missing it's target completely.
Which is going to carry a lot more bombs and be next in line if the Stealth is successful (So let it be for now.)
- I also theorize that the Aircrafts speed is going to improve and physics are going to take a pinnacle role in War Thunder.
- The Aircraft supports Early ECM technology in an aircraft: Rendering the Aircraft invisible on radar & Assault based weapons (Except bullets)
- Your Name will not appear and there will be no Contrail.
Cons:
- Well as you can see the F-117 Nighthawk is within its name. "Night Hawk" Primarily this Aircraft is best suited during night operations rather day.
- The aircraft is slow. (But the upside that it's really good at climbing and reaching maximum altitude in a short time.)
- The Aircraft obviously has no guns. So, This Aircraft will require a new specific Specialty target for players to attack that is exclusive to Stealth Bombers. (Such as major Airfields or VIP Targets)
- The Aircraft is hilariously easy to see in the sky as you are basically a flying Dorito. SPAA will be able to spot you if your too low... (Similar to Keen Vision you won't see it until you are too late)
- It's a bummer that it's a squadron vehicle and requires being in a squadron to use...
- As mentioned before your name & Contrail will not be visible... (except for the Rear & Sides of the Aircraft)
Conclusion:
I think the vehicle is going to look amazing and be part of War Thunder...
On the Pantsir when you turned your radar off you were not tracking with IRST it would say “TRK ISRT” you have to switch the mode
They can't even get the squadron number and squadron patch right. The tails show the 9th Fighter Squadron, but the patch on the side is of the 8th Fighter Squadron.
6:41
your werent using IRST and for the pantsir to
you need to switch radar mode in the menu not just turn the search radar off
I think this will do well in air simulator battles in bombing.
Not bad
-Historically Accurate my ass-
You need to manually switch lock mode to IRST with either a dedicated button or quick menu (Y), closing search radar just closes search radar, that's it, you still can use track one on most spaa (not on all because gaijin logic or smth)
Figures we get the F-117 before we get the B-52...
So the IR was also harder to pick up as the added cold air into the exhaust to keep the IR small as well.
I think the F-117 at 10.0 will be op in night battles because most spaa aren’t radar guided and the contrast won’t work in the night
They did say if you are lined up with it facing you that it’s easy to lock but if the plane itself is at an angle then it’s harder so maybe test that theory
5:17 Certified Yugoslavian moment
I had also tested this with the flarakrad and he needed to get within 4-5km to show up on radar and within 5-6km so I could irst lock, pretty neat
The f117 uses geometry as stealth so it may not be very stealthy from certain angles
Soviet Sim teams on their way to get bombed while on the Airfield:
If you can try and lock on to the f-117 with more modern radar sets. F-15, mirage, etc.
oh well another bomber i just expected something a bit more useful in Air RB but if you fly it in RB it's useless
Depending on whether or not they buff Airfield AA against this thing I can see it being an airbase vulture, picking off aircraft who RTB.
It should be invisible from the front. unless the bomb doors are open
Can you explain what sort of radar functions you were using on the f4, never seen that style of reticle
15km for beter radar guided missiles seems realistic as real f-117 that was shot down was shot down at 15km range with soviet s-125 aa missile in 1999
Tunguska radar can src out to 20 km if u change the scope scale, so can all german radar aa
this plane boutta go hard
and that's all if it's not moving at an angle
it'll be more of a hide and seek vehicle
the worst and a really old stealth aircraft can be locked on from the side easily? it’s kinda like it was meant to be detected from the side rather than the front
don’t believe me? the front is angled in a way that RADAR waves fails to bounce back to what transmitted them meanwhile the bottom and sides are relatively smooth and flat which makes it easier to lock on from those angles
during the collapse of Yugoslavia, the (former, now Serbian) Yugoslav Army was able to shoot down a F-117 due to getting a lock as the bottom returned a signature after the bomb bays opened and gave the aircraft a more distinct shape
"I highly recommend against that" *But has over 10 million SL* lol
I'm really looking forward to seeing you nailing dogfights with it
Thing is, this would be hella fun to use if it could actually kill bases in AR
The stealth is to do with radar cross section, so if it's flying pretty much above you giving you a massive flat surface for your radar to see, you'll get a radar ping, and IRST will have very little issue with locking it compared to how well they usually function. Neat little gimmic vehicle that has interesting IRL history and looks great but is basically useless.
massive FLAT surface would act as a mirror giving you next to no return ... what you need for radar is flat surface thats 90 degrees to the radar to get as much wave reflection BACK to you as possible ... flat surface angled like this would reflect everything AWAY from the radar giving zero return
from that angle all the surface area you would get signature on would be edges of wings that are also angled away from the radar ...
from that angle the F-117 should be all but invisible to that garbage PESA radar ...
Fact it’s in 8.7 is insane💀💀
i need to point this out, turning off search radar doesnt mean it switch to irst, u need to switch it manually and see irst text above the radar map, in the video you are just trying to use its tracking radar to gain a lock (tungie and pantsir irst does not display range btw)
I actually think this is purely a test vehicle that their gonna be constantly changing to get ready for stuff like the F-22 F-35 or Su57
Realistically the bombbay should open and close instantly when you press rhe drop bonb button, it should not need to be opened individally. And opening the bombay should make it more easily lockable
This plane is only accurate in command & conquer generals
