This was a cas monster back in the day till they chain nerfed the ammo (removed the good ap rounds), the guns (Good luck hitting target) and then the plane (slow as hell and drunk whale if low speed) itself over 3 different patches in a row. Now it's a slow turd armed with shotguns that can barely hit anything unless it's point blank. You should test it in ground battles to really show.
Except the accuracy nerf on the Ho 229's MK 103s has already been reverted. For quite some time even, literally over 2 years. They have been just as accurate as any other MK 103 for those 2 years. Additionally they didn't remove the good AP rounds, ever. They just made the belts contain less of them (1 in 4 instead of full belt). And even then that has been changed so now it has more of them (2 in 4) and the rest of the rounds are still armor piercing at something like 50 mm.
The AP is just as good, the guns are fairly accurate, roll rate does suck but so long as you're not burning all your energy in one or two turns you can outrun most things you fight in ground RB and it's a top attack monster.
the 229 was not the first flying wing americans were testing flying wings way before the horten brothers were Northrop himself was already tinkering with the idea before them himself.
This was the plane I wanted when I first started this game, just such a cool looking aircraft. Unfortunately it's a situation of don't meet your heroes as I didn't get it early enough to enjoy it in its initial form and it's just awkward to play nowm Still looks super cool though and the cockpit is fun to look out of. Wonder if it's any good in AB with the buffed stats that planes get there.
I’ve been saying it for awhile now V-156-BI but new one the Firebrand it feels sluggish and it almost feels like it’s rudder is to big but it packs a punch id say it’s more a one hit wonder. Also extra info I compared its tail and body to other aircraft and I found that it’s tail is about the same size as a beaufighter while being a lot smaller so imagine a beaufighter or bomber tail on a slightly larger typhoon
6:00 Even without RATO the Kikka has insane acceleration for an early jet. The engines were buffed somewhere in the past (don't remember exactly when, but something like 5+ years) and with that buff the engines gained 175 kgf of thrust *each* (from 475 to 650 kgf). On an ultra light jet like the Kikka, that's a huge boost. There's this video made by AdamTheEngineerd where he compares a couple jets and his tests show how the Kikka dumpsters every other jet in acceleration: ruclips.net/video/q1_4wqbDZvo/видео.html
i'm curious if this only flies like this because of the instructor or if its whole flight model is shit. i know there are a few planes where if you fly with a stick the plane comes alive and is amazing all because instructor wants to input so much rudder
I've flown it in Sim, and the energy retention is a lot better there. Doing hard turns can still really tank your speed (probably a bit more than it should, imo), but if you just use the joystick movement you can keep your energy a lot better. I tend to do my bigger manoeuvres by tapping the keyboard while in free look, which negates this advantage, unfortunately.
@@wolfgangkolber381 The problem in Sim is that its 7.7, fighting much better early jets. On 7.0 it would be ok, but on 7.7 you are just outclassed by almost everyone.
@@woistwalter7037 That's the story of all early German jets, unfortunately. I've been of the opinion for a while that the early Me 262s need to be 6.7 and fight primarily props. EDIT: That said, I do notice that in Sim skill and awareness tend to come into it a bit more, since you can actually get the drop on people. I notice that difference more with props than with jets though, since the performance gap between jets tends to be wider, or else the situational awareness starts to matter less as radar and missiles become more prevalent.
@@LetsLaberWithMi If you hold C you can free look mostly the same way you do in RB, but still in first person. You're looking around inside your cockpit and through the windows. If you're in a turnfight it's pretty imperative to look above or behind you as you're turning.
Actually right there at the end, idk if it has a real name, but I call it the Manta technique. Named after the manta ray, that the 229 resembles, setting your gun convergence to "NO" and wiggling your pointer just a tiny bit means any of the minegeshoße shells will do critical damage. Literally shotgun approach with 10-20 shots. It may not be a "good" jet, but I have more player kills in that than any other jet.
It's one of those vehicles where it's not particularly very good, but in my opinion it's very underrated *_in my opinion_* just being able to turn on a dime kinda negates most of the other issues, especially if you learn how to aim the guns
With how the average WT player flies this, I guess it does need to go to 6.7 or 6.3. I just hope Gaijin does not modify the flight model because I murder with it. 21:06 It's not bad, just has a high skill floor. It is not bad at all. 25:04 Or, you spend time learning it and become a killing machine, it's very fun :3
Like I mentioned it's worse than me learning a new plane because my mind has defaulted to flying it on it's 8 year old flight model so relearning it was tough.
I love the horten, i have a higher kill ratio in it than any other plane, just try to stay above 500 km/h and dont try to rely on the non existent rudder.
Even though it turns amazingly, you burn way too much speed doing it. And with the weak engines it takes far too long to get speed back unless you trade altitude for it. I found it was better to stay fast and keep the turn rate in reserve for emergencies. You can kind of allow for the slow roll rate, but the poor yaw control is what makes it hard to get guns on target, the instructor seems to struggle just dealing with the adverse yaw from rolling, that's why you often end up with the nose pointing in the opposite direction from the turn. I've had to manually yaw this thing more than any other aircraft in War Thunder, and with keys being all or nothing it's super hard to keep it in any kind of balance.
Sadly enough, the engines still manage to be a bit stronger than the 262. The extra 10kgf of thrust per engine would be a negligible difference on basically any other plane at the BR, but for German planes it makes a big difference.
Am I the only person who actually enjoys playing this thing? I'm 100 lvl but a very average pilot, yet I have about 70-80% WR after 30 battles and usually at the top 3 in the team. I haven't spaded it yet. I almost never die without a kill or two. My strategy is to simply go around everyone and gain speed and then shoot down bots/ground targets. Then I engage enemy planes when most of the enemy team is dead to avoid getting outnumbered. (If I didn't kill someone already trying to bomb our base) Tip: 1 Don't try to head-on enemy aircraft, do some basic reversal and you will be 100% at enemy's six. Ho sucks at actually pointing guns directly at the target. Tip: 2 Use default ammo, works for me at least.
