Dec. 21 2016 Today was a good day. I discovered this song - couldn't believe my ears. And a few hours earlier - I saw a Firefly/Serenity Semi Truck and Trailer driving through my small town. I practically ran down the street chasing it, I couldn't believe my eyes.
I love how for the first verse, the video is all about Serenity. . . and for the second verse, it's all about Inara. Mal's two great loves. Good thing they get along, eh?
No inara was trash that Mel' wife he would fight every now and then was way better for him she held his beliefs and they actually had chemistry (if you're a fan you'll know who I mean when I say his wife LOL)
Even better is "Wash away the leaves upon our graves." Wash the pilot, and him saying "I am a leaf on the wind" during the epic battle in Serenity, and then there was the grave scene. That is a fantastical line the encompasses so much.
The line that makes the song is "in the big black empty sea, she is always there with me, keeps me sheltered, keeps me free" Thank you for another excellent piece of music!
One of the best tv shows I have watched. Love the plot, love the characters, love the story, love the pacing Take my love, take my land, take me where I cannot stand. I don't care I'm still free, you can't take the sky from me. Take me out to the black, tell them I ain't coming back. Burn the land and boil the sea you can't take the sky from me. Have no place I can be since I found Serenity, but you can't take the sky from me.
Okay, okay, I happily admit I have all this song memorized and sing along terribly whenever it plays (which is often). "Steer me when I aim to misbeHAAAAAAVVE!"
+Zeppelin Aw Sadly, since Nathan Fillion is doing Castle, and the others have moved on... I don't think we'll ever see them pick the show back up. But it'd be weird, if they did, all things considered. Where would they even start?
+Ruby150 Provided they pretend the events in the movie didn't happen (or at least retcon two details) I don't think it really matters where they pick it up from. Even if they wanted to continue from partway through season one I think it'd be fine and that most people would be happy to overlook the age difference.
+PhiloticSymmetrist There is such anime called Fullmetal Alchemist. It has 2 seasons+ movies 1and2 se are like parralel univ (same time, events and endings different). and people still love both. So they can just restart Firefly from scratch, people still gonna love it.
Heh! There are many things to like about this song, but one thing that really tickled me was that the rhyme structure uses many words that match with "-tee" and "-eye" and yet the actual words "serenity" and "firefly" are never once sung. Still, because we know the theme of the song we keep anticipating one of those words to finish off a stanza, but it never happens. So the song leaves us with anticipation for something we'll never get, much like the show itself. A very nice touch, even if it wasn't intentional!
That moment, when you start crying, just because these beautiful memories come up. Its a great song, such a lovely show with a to sudden end. But the 'verse will live in our hearts by our creativity like this song. Stay shiny browncoats! And keep in mind; They can't take the sky from us!
The song is so relaxing and soothing that I don't need to be concerned with the fact that I have no idea what it's about. The music itself is brilliant, that's enough for me. Great work, Gav!
I love this song, I wish there was more songs inspired by Firefly with this same "sound", not really sure how to describe it, because it isn't really rock, nor is it bluegrass, country, blues or folk!!! I love the Ballad Of Serenity as well!! It has a real "feel of the world" sound to it!! Of course I am a huge fan of the show and movie!!
You did this. You made a Firefly song. AND IT IS AWESOME!!! This is a really great song!!! I love you for this. Seriously. You captured the feel of the show and the heart and soul of the story perfectly!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!!!
+miracleofsound Thank you for this man. Unlike many shows, Firefly left a hole in all of the fans hearts. This song is amazing. Will you make a Doctor Who song?
+Stefano Torres BattleStar Galactica did for me... but i started to not like it as much after i think the first two seasons as it slowed down as hell and the super pilot Starbuck was bloody always injured and crap.
"Wash away the leaves upon our graves." Wash the pilot, and him saying "I am a leaf on the wind" during the epic battle in Serenity, and then there was the grave scene. That is a fantastical line the encompasses so much.

Perfectly captures the feel (and the feels) of the show. You did it again, Gav. This is why I eagerly await each new song and listen to old ones over and over again.
This song is like getting that thing for Christmas that you never even thought about wanting, but as soon as you get it can't imagine not having. Mere words cannot describe how happy I am that this song even EXISTS. Also: "Wash away the leaves upon our graves"??? WHY MUST YOU HURT ME SO?
@@Soveliss1986 they're all quite aged and the reverend died, dude, it's been 17 years, unfortunately. They will have to restart it, or it would be weird to just pick off the next day it ended and everyone is twice their age.
Perfect. So much multiple meaning in the lyrics too. I think Firefly ended well with the movie. The longer its left alone, the more I think it SHOULD be left alone.
Well that was ... refreshing. Steel guitar with slides and everything. Really REALLY nice. I love how you keep experimenting across genres, and nailing it. Because you really nailed everything about that show with this one. Cool little nods to the fans with "I aim to misbehave" in the lyrics and all the other implications. I will be buying the bluray set for Firefly now and take a trip back in time. Sweet stuff Gavin.
i cant tell you how much this song now means to me. my dog that i named Serenity died two weeks ago, and then you posted this. thank you, it actually helped.

Fantastic! Is it just me reading into things, or is there mountains of symbolism and parallels being drawn in the lyrics? Is "Wash the leaves upon our graves" more about the death of Wash or the cancellation of the series and resurrection via the movie?
+miracleofsound In fairness this is common place for your songs. Maybe I should stop being impressed when you do it. I'll let you know if I ever am haha

Best TV Series - Movie Ever. I love it. I've watched it 100 times. This song sums it up pretty well.
