Ngl it's kind of surreal and exciting seeing Nintendo talk about this game in such depth. Here's to hoping Mother 3 gets this treatment one day.
Yeah, I really hope nintendo does more trailers like this one.
Mother 3?
Never existed. Lucas was an original character from Brawl.
And, definitely do not research in the slightest, because Mother 3 isn't a truly real game, totally not.
@@luginess0 In true Nintendo fashion, they'll continue to gaslight us like this, making us truly believe it never happened. They don't seem to think we know, or they just don't care, I don't know which it is anymore
It would be nice but that could change the story a little and a censorship .>.

It's really cool to see such a well-written and well-performed trailer being made for a retro game. I love the care and attention that Nintendo gives to the classics!

That will be the day the internet explodes. It just hurts me that people are getting furious about it and slandering Nintendo. That being said, I’ve never been able to play Mother 3, but I have played Earthbound. I still have hope for Mother 3 being localized one day…

Although the work of mother 3 is still something I want to be brought to light in the future, I am happy that nintendo finally recognizes this series and maybe just maybe will find some way to bring it into a light that isn't just the classic port and go and instead a full remake if on the slim chance that will ever happen
I was going to make a mother 3 joke, but this is actually a really well put together trailer
This is honestly the best Trailer to a Cult Classic of the 90s, the Narration is top notch and it coveys the feelings Earthbound as a game give to the player, gone are the gross out humor of the 90s, Earthbound has gotten so far it no longer stinks as a game🌎🌏🌍

“Ok”
“Good enough…”
I loved the reference to dinousaurs tv show: "We're gonna need another timmy!"
Wow chills..
So excited for all the kids and adults who get to experience Mother for the first time!
what no way they never acknowledge this series
In my heart of hearts, they're testing the waters to see if the Mother series will sell well this time. And maybe, in the perfect timeline, they'll localize Mother 3 if it does sell and people seem interested.
And maybe continue a new trilogy of games with similar vibe to Mother series, or at least one game
But you don't buy these games individually. You get them collectively as part of their online service. There is no way to gauge interest based on sales here as many simply buy the service just for online. Also they've both been rereleased before on Wii U where you could actually buy them and nothing ever came of that, so...
@IAN'S PARKS that's right, I forgot how NSO worked honestly. Oh well. In a perfect world, maybe we'll get it :')

This is so awesome!!! Please please PLEASE continue the Mother series Nintendo. Or go for a remake. Or at least give us Mother 3.
dude the director literally said that mother 3 was the end stop
The game series is over, if we ever did get another, the creator would probably have nothing to do with it. Also a remake was pitched during the GameCube era, but was shot down. If they had a time machine that could predict the fifth Smash Bros game before Smash 64 even came out, I think the game would've been a best seller.
Nah the 90s were all about gross-out advertising. It was the reviews and graphics that initially turned people away from the game. Reviewers brushed the game off because of the bright graphics and wanted something more akin to Final Fantasy. Most people didn’t play past the first town so they never understood how great the writing and combat is. The game also cost $30 more than a standard SNES game at the time and that was something never really done before. It was many factors, but the advertising was just following trends of the era

Mother2/Earthbound was definitely a game with a far bigger lasting impact than you'd expect of a title with its nieche popularity and low sales.
It created a very specific style of tone and humour that has defined a good portion of the Internet as well inspired countless other weird/emotional/quirky RPG games such as Yume Nikki, Space Funeral, LISA, Undertale, Omori, Jimmy and The Pulsating Mass, Other HLE, etc that have carved out their own brand in the genre.
In terms of impact vs success Mother has made a deceptively major impression with the former.
Some might even call it THE most representative/definitive example of a Cult title.
I actually really like the fact that they acknowledged that most people know Ness from Smash Bros as a starting point. I mean, Smash was how I found out about series like Pikmin and Sonic. Take my word for it as someone who has played both games several times: Play Earthbound first. Earthbound Beginnings has a special place in my heart, but it suffers from:
> Unbalanced Enemies
> Unbalanced encounter rates
> Needing to level grind A LOT.
> Vague and directionless story
> Giant, sparse maps that are easy to get lost in
I highly recommend using a guide or following a playthrough so you don't get stuck or rage quit. You can do it! I believe in you!
I disagree with the story part, as many people love beginnings more than even earthbound because of it.
But I agree with literally everyone else. An unorganized over world and poorly balanced level up system can be discouraging for new players. If you love earthbound though, chances are, these can be overcome with enough dedication to the series.
The encounter rate is/was insane in Beginning. Tells a pretty charming story with nice moments filled in.
At least EarthBound has it's Players Guide online, so no one has to pay high amounts of dough for a copy.
If someone still wants the Earthbound Beginnings experience but in a more beginner friendly way, I'd recommend the GBA port with the fan translation, since it has the Easy Ring and actually has a more accurate English translation. If you really want the challenge and grinding though, play the original NES version by all means, though if you are playing for the first time, you will absolutely need a guide.
Honestly though, you can play EarthBound first then EarthBound Beginnings and still be just fine, although someone who played EarthBound first may be confused on Giygas but otherwise the story can still be understood.

Earthbound's creator is far more lenient with the copyright takedowns than Nintendo
I love how nintendo america has to explain:
“you know this ness guy from smash?? Well it actually turns out that he’s from a game! Crazy right?”
*looks at Captain Falcon*
@@chaosmiles07 *Looks at R.O.B.*
They did almost the same thing a year ago when they re-released _Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem,_ starting the trailer with classic Smash gameplay and two kids getting confused over what Nintendo game "Marth" was from.
Lol for real. Neat that they did it though.
1:31 this part doesn't even feel like a Nintendo trailer lol
Your right it feels more like a youtube review or retrospective video
This is so sweetly in tone with the premise, its honestly one of the best things they couldve done to actuallly show the spirit of the games without spoilers or dumb memes
i’ve literally tried to watch people play this game so many times as the story sounds so interesting c but it’s something i have to play myself. finally have a chance to play!
Let me know how to enjoy it? I'm personally going to mess with various glitches
Same
@@velvetbutterfly What glitches are there besides that speedrunning one involving clipping through the mountain after eating the skip sandwiches?
@@RepublicofFoigWerg well clipping in other places can lead to other effects, I believe there was some manipulation that would let you restart the game with high stats and equipment like a pseudo NG+.
But the fun one is the Threed Tent glitch that could make the entire console lock on some versions. It can basically do anything at random
Super stoked to see this masterpiece on modern hardware. I would have loved a physical release though. Imagine a physical trilogy collection, or one of those anniversary Game & Watch handhelds Mario and Zelda got a little while ago. That would be so cool. I literally want to hand you money, Nintendo.
Physical is forever!
Trailer: "Aliens are taking over! AND THE ADULTS DON'T CARE!!!"
Me: "...The most realistic thing in the entire game. There's a world ending threat, basically 99% of the adults don't care, or are actually making it worse. :("
Hmmm, yes, the over-dramatic musings of a 13 year old kid.
@@Go_away__ Overdramatic, sure. I definitely used some hyperbole here.
You're two decades off. I'm 33. And rather tired of an abundance of jerks refusing to improve things that could easily be improved.
Just played the first hour or so of Earthbound, it's fantastic!
You're in for a real treat then
It's a fantastic game. Have fun.
It’s out already?
@@sean.anthony6044 yeah

It's been out for like 27 years already

Jokes aside they said "Available later today" during the direct.
I thought they'd reveal Mother 3 the way the trailer was going with announcing two EB games at once... I am talking about the Direct by the way.
r/whoosh
They gotta have gba online games first.
@@VictorGonzalez-xs9oc No they don't. They had virtual console at one point... I prefer that...
Well be happy. It's the right step in the direction.
I'm honestly still desperately waiting for a Mother 3 release. Still it's great to see these games make their return.
*After all these years… I can FINALLY play the Earthbound series!!!!*
minus mother 3
@@mymechanicalheart371 It'll probably take me a while to finish these two anyway, so I can wait (plus there's always emulation and fan translations)
@@kumatorahaltmanndreemurr True. Also, good luck with earthbound beginnings lol. It's pretty hard

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FROM NINTENDO??? THIS IS PERFECT!
I Want Nintendo To Make Another Commercial With Lucas On Game Boy With Mother 3 Please! 🥺🙏🏻
Yesss! I hope they localise Mother 3!!
Ooh! That’s Exciting! I Hope We Can Complete All The Mother Games On The Nintendo Online! 😆👏🏻
Nintendo: We are adding the earthbound games!
Me: Oh cool! You adding Mother 3?
Nintendo:
No official GBA emulator yet... I guess?
Nah we we will never get Mother 3 lol
@@Mikedot the Wii U virtual console emulated gba games, they could totally do it. They just don’t want to
You guys took SO LONG putting this Masterpiece on Nintendo switch, and finally i get yo enjoy it
I’ve never actually gotten the full EarthBound experience, so I’m happy to try it out!
There's a third one called Mother 3 which they still haven't localized in the west
I know lol. Just like the other two I haven’t played this game either (for obvious reasons), and I was SCREAMING at the direct saying “MOTHER 3 MOTHER 3” 😂
Earthbound for me was the highlight of the Direct, and I’ve already played the game about 1 billion times!
For anyone who was crying who wanted these 2 to be on the switch online, I'm with you man 👊😔
It's 2022 man you can play these games on internet browser
@@damian597 ok shaggy from scooby doo 😂😂😂
@CoolgamerJAW ikr they could've at least have Mother 3 in the eshop or save it for the gba online
I’m not alone? 🥺

"Who's Lucas?"
Jokes aside, this is the trailer Earthbound's deserved since its release, right up there with the Wii U trailer. AMAZING to finally see these games acknowledged!!
WHERE IS MOTHER 3?
I can't be bothered to play either of these because Nintendo can't be bothered to release the whole series outside Japan.
Love how this acts like a commercial from the 90s
Honestly more excited for Earthbound Beginnings. I just really seem to love that entry.
Same. I already got Lloyd to join the party lol
The sprites remind me of Peanuts. 😊
@@adamdenardis5438
Yeah!
Fun fact, the Famicom version has different overworld sprites for some of the NPCs that bear an even closer resemblance to Peanuts characters!
This was modified though in the English localization, even for Ninten who had a black stripe, before it was changed to the white/skin color stripe most people are familiar with today. The localization changes were also kept in Mother 1+2 on GBA.
2:57 I’m a bit too familiar with that attack…
