After cooking Turkey for 50 Thanksgivings, I decided to try something new. Something I saw online. Spatchcocking a turkey, which is cutting out the backbone and breaking the breastbone so it lies flat instead of standing up. Oh my goodness, it only took 90 minutes to cook, therefore it was incredibly moist. This will be my go to method from now on. Never stop learning never stop cooking.
Looks sooo good, Poppy! Butter and salt, the no-fail seasoning mmmm Super breakdown of all the steps. Next turkey on my hit list is going to get the multi day spa treatment - warm up and brine.
Poppy, i have no idea how I've gone through life not subbed to your channel. (I do have one of your cookbooks!) I've now got my new turkey recipe and i cannot wait to try this.
3:17 Doesn't mixed spice normally have allspice as one of the main ingredients too? I think allspice is the spice that makes me think of Christmas more than any other!
Be my 1st time cook for family xmas dinner in ireland we have ham with turkey.can turkey be cooked night before ? So i can use oven nxt day for roast veg etc..helpp i havent a clue 😂😂😂
Miss Poppy, I am so disappointed that you didn't hold your little fingers up in the air, like a proper English lady, when you sampled that slice of turkey breast. I love you anyway, and I love your advice on cooking. You do it right.
So I'm slightly confused. If i have a frozen turkey, defrost for 2 days, the brine for 3. Will it still be ok, or will it go off? Asking for a friend 😅
Throwing spilled salt over yer left shoulder doesn't bring good luck, but it DOES avert bad luck brought on by spilling the (expensive) salt. My late father contended you had to use yer right hand to throw the salt over the left shoulder, but that may have been only because he was right-handed. Any road, even though I'm left-handed I follow his example. ... My wife would commit MAYHEM if I took the wings off and threw them into the gravy pot! She says they're her favourite bits. As it is, I have to fight to keep her away from the liver and gizzard so there's any giblets left at ALL. (We're a family that enjoys our offal, regardless the animal.)
The sad thing about this is that my family don't have seasoning on anything definitely no herbs, I have to make very plain food when I go round. My grandma is most excited for me making her a cheese toastie when I see her. 😅
no it needs to hit 74c for safety. Although it will increase in temp while resting it wont gain a whole 10 degrees more. Please ducklings .. take it to 74 spending Boxing day throwing up is not the fun holiday you want

I always butterflied poultry, it just roasted better; also dry brined it. Didn’t know it wasn’t commonly done.
"We'll double team it"
I think you would've laughed hard at the face I made there. Was not expecting that LMFAO.
Was sure I'd mis-heard that!! but then the rest of the video, I'm crying here

Looks delicious (as always)!
I'm dry brining my bird rn, Poppy. First time following your recipe. So excited!
How did it go?!
Poppy! That looked amazingly delicious, can't wait for the follow up recopies, with your humor and innuendo thrown in. Much ❤🙂😋😎
Always x

@@gregbromley152 Yay welcome to the RUclips family too Greg!
I've never done a dry brine, just a wet brine in as bucket. But I always do the skin separation technique to add a compound butter under the skin.
Thanks Poppy. this looks amazing. I'll use your recipe for this Christmas.
Thanks so much for sharing your recipe.i must give it a try thanks 🙏🙏🙏
Love your oven! It proves you're a proper cook (errrrrr..... like me ☺).
Poppy, thank you! I used this for my Thanksgiving turkey this year and everyone loved it. Even my picky 8 yr old. 10/10
Ahh love this! Its the ONLY way I’ll ever prep my turkey now
14:22 "I nearly shat myself" 😂
Well you don't hear that from regular TV chefs.
Nice normal chat.
Yeah sorry about that 😂
@@poppycooks Don't be, just found your channel , its brilliant. I love it.🙂
Wow, could this be the recipe that saves Christmas Turkey? That's proper Cheffing right there! I *need* to give this a go.
Please do, it’s a game changer
You are so funny, I love your facial expressions,😂😂 you crack me up girl 😊😅xxx
Watching this at 10:30 in the morning now all I want is a roast turkey. 😊

I’m worried. Isn’t Poppy doing a non-potato recipe one of the signs of the apocalypse?
yes
@ oh no. oh, this wasn’t really the first sign, was it?
Thank you.

Can you do this without the garlic and it will still taste nice?

Great video poppy
Was that a fresh male turkey ?
Hang on a minute... 6:10 you've played Zelda games, I presume?
Aside from that, I've never tried dry brining a bird... I'll have to give it a try!
This is my dream woman right here! omg
A festive bird that looks very tasty! (sorry - I had to say that)

All good. No worries
@debrascott8775 thank you! Don't want to be poisoning people 😂
Well,it's really brine for 2 dqys as on the 3rd day you cook it.😊

Your wife sounds like my kinda gal ❤
like a big bird for christmas🎉🎉
That better be a potato flavored turkey....
👀
Some chefs put foil on turkey for an hour then take it off for rest of time
The new Christmas " Nigella "
THE DREAM
14:18 Classic Poppy

Oww bab! You can’t be having that 😂
Good to see Poppy go back to the cavepersons days by chewing on a bone, no airs or grace`s just Poppy true Brummy!
get proper grubby
Herby is not the same as herbaceous, which means like grass. Points for the Bradford colours belt though.
Pedantic much?
i actually thought poppy eats a 5 course meal with nothing but potato
potato soup, potato tartlet, fondant potato and potato cake
Now that’s an idea…
Where is the gravy video 😊😊😊
No bloody rosemary it’s like eating perfume 😅😊
You're my butter queen.
My favourite chef on the internet. No worries about the oven, if you use it regularly it will get a bit mucky.
Thank you!!!!
not really a fan of turkey, but everything can be applied to chicken
75c is wayyyyy to hot people.
Take your turkey out at 65c and let it rest

8:16 Guga would have put 10 packs of butter in there.
Guga needs to show you how to cook meat. In return, you can show him some tattie recipes. 😂😂
He needs to try my meat!!
@@poppycooks Ohhh Matron 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Why is she talking to us like children?
@@SuperFlashDelirium Great input!
that is one of the driest looking turkeys i've seen on youtube
well I think you need to stop searching for extra wet birds on RUclips… this was MOIST
Lmao ! You said 'moist ' !! Now, (after your great presentation) I'm just waiting for the comments to explode from triggered people!
talks to much 😅😅😅😅
poppy is annoying,,,
i can't watch you anymore
Poppy is well fit innit
