Lol I can only imagine how many thanksgivings and dinners this woman has saved. She has definitely saved me. I was asked “do you even know how to cook a turkey?” By my flippant brother so I said yes and found this video hahaha
Last year we followed this video to roast our turkey at home for the very first time. It was a great success. This year we are going to make the turkey again following this exact video. I wanna say thank you again for this great and helpful video. May you have a blessed and joyful Thanksgiving!
Followed this exactly today. Best turkey ever. I don’t usually eat the white meat but today I could have eaten all of it. So moist. Perfect recipe for sure. Turned out picture perfect! Thank-you!
This is going to be my first year cooking a turkey for thanksgiving and we are hosting a few hunters from Quebec so there's the added pressure lol I'm going to use this recipe and be happy I'm not completely clueless on how to do it now.
My family is grateful for you! We usually buy a pre-cooked turkey package somewhere online, drive out on the morning of, wait in line and pickup a pre-cooked turkey which we end up reheating for a couple/few hours, and spend the rest of the morning frazzled, assembling sides and sweating through it all. So it's quite stressful for us each year. Your recipe gave us the confidence to make our own turkey from raw/frozen and it came out GOOD and it was so much less stress this year since we followed your instructions and bought the turkey several days ahead to allow it to thaw properly.. we didn't have to drive anywhere or read any last-minute instructions. And, I love how much we've minimized on packaging and trash; so many benefits. I also ended up patting the turkey dry with a bunch of linens rather than paper towels to reduce even further (since we don't own paper towels, kinda had to improvise). The kids raved about the turkey; that's how good it was! Thank you!! I've saved this recipe and we will do it again next year. We wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving to you, Lisa, and your entire family! xoxo, Maureen
First time making a turkey and my picky eater kids said it’s the best turkey, it’s moist. I followed this recipe except I didn’t add rosemary and sage coz I didn’t have them. I also covered the breast with foil when it’s 2/3rds cook to prevent the breast from burning and drying then cooked it in the oven for 13 min/lb instead of 15 min/lb. When i took it out of the oven, the internal temperature at the thigh was 188F so I thought I overcooked it but still came out amazing. I never thought I could roast a delicious turkey. Thank you Lisa
I’ve always done the Turk in my fam. This will be my 20th thanksgiving with my wife and kids. For me. The hardest thing to do while making a Turk in the time. Jeez it takes forever. I. The guy always opening the oven. I just can’t wait.
I followed this video step by step last year and it was amazing! Everyone loved the Turkey. Now I came back to it to have another successful thanksgiving dinner 😊
This was my second year cooking a turkey on my own, I was a little terrified last year however your flawlessness to detail provided me confidence. My turkey came out "FABULOUS" 😊 Thank you for your passion, willingness, and being a great teacher!
Last year we started a tradition that me and my brother would do the turkey every thanksgiving. We used this recipe and the family loved it very much!!! Using the same recipe this year, right now!! Thank you so much!!!
Thanks for taking the time to show the world a well done Turkey recipe...im a man and been cooking for 30+ years for every Holiday and still enjoy playing around with fresh and new ideas...God Bless and Happy Holidays
Thank you for making this so simple to understand. This is the first time I made a turkey like this and I need to just say, I will never change it! The recipe with all the flavors and ways to keep it moist was excellent! I we had guests and it was a kit! Thank you for showing all the steps so thoroughly. Will keep this for next year!
Thank God, a recent comment! Was your turkey pre-seasoned? I bought an unseasoned turkey for Christmas, but I’m worried about the amount of salt in this recipe. One spoon does not seem enough 😢
This is mouthwatering Lisa. You're too harsh on yourself. Thank you for this amazing recipe. I'm afraid that, due to Covid, I might enjoy this recipe all with myself rather than with my folks.
Thanks Alain! 🥰 And yeah, this year is hard with covid. But I do hope you still enjoy this recipe, and I've got recipes with Thanksgiving turkey leftovers coming up on the website as well. So all that turkey won't go to waste!

Made my first turkey this year and out of all the turkey videos I watched, yours was the one I kept coming back to for reference. Nothing fancy or pretentious...just a good, reliable recipe and well-made video. Happy to say my turkey was WONDERFUL, beautiful and delicious! The only bad thing is that my parents & family have assigned me turkey-duty from now on...oh no! haha! This will be my go-to video for years to come! Thank you so much!!!
I used this recipe this year, I usually use the “oven bags” and let me tell you my turkey came out so much better this year! It took a little longer to cook but believe it or not it was so much more juicy and moist than the years before!! Thank you for this video my turkey for thanksgiving was Amazing!!❤️❤️
This is going to be my first time! You’ve taught me to cook! I’ve been watching you since I was 17-18 this year I’m 20! My parents are separated, I live with my dad and my two younger siblings. Cooking is my thing and I genuinely have developed a love for it because of you! It has also helped me provide homemade meals at home. Much love to you!❤️
Yum you just inspired me to use this simple recipe. I can’t wait to use my new roasting pan as well. Thank you and I’m grateful that you share your simple and healthy recipes with all of us 🙏🏼 God Bless 😘
Mum never used Rosemary or sage and her birds were exceptional. Dad could not eat pepper so we will skip that as well.. I will bast the bird with Irish butter and see now how people complicate this process which is all about internal temps. have an eight-pound bird and I will gorge myself into a stupor this year. my dog included.
Thank you so much for showing how to cook the turkey since I’m a single woman now it’s my job to do it my husband always did it but now it’s my turn to do it so I appreciate the fact that you showed how to cut it and I love how it looks how you displayed it on your platter🍁🦃
Made this as my first turkey this year. I needed a little help, but it turned out very good, my family loved it! It cooked a little faster than expected. The alterations I did was: ready made herb and garlic butter. We mixed some olive oil with the butter before putting on turkey. And our store didn’t have fresh sage so we used dried sage. Thank you so much for this recipe! Was amazing!

@@jonsnow2555 Turned out really good!! My turkey cooked really fast. She said to cook it for 15 min per pound but mine cooked alot faster. I had a 16 lb turkey and it took about 2 hours. I put it back in for an extra 20 min which made some of the breast meat a bit dry but if I wouldn't have put it back in the oven for that extra time, it would have been perfect. Great, simple recipe!
I cooked your recipe last year thanksgiving 2020 because it was my first time host thanksgiving party. It’s was so delicious, moist, crispy and flavorful. I will host 2 thanksgiving party again this year💪🏼🤞🏽 Thank you so much.
Have been doing this recipe for the 2nd year now, and even use it for roasted chicken too. Honestly, it's the best recipe I've ever seen. So simple and beginner friendly, and always gives a perfect result, as long as you don't forget to monitor the internal temperature.
I used to be intimidated by cooking a turkey, but after doing it for the first time two Thanksgivings ago, now I cook whole chickens and turkeys throughout the year regularly because it's such an easy way to make a big, wholesome meal that lasts for many days. And it freezes well!

Merry Christmas. I made my turkey (16 pounds) exactly as you demonstrated, and it was incredible. Even the breast, as mentioned as the most difficult to get right, was perfect. As I sliced the breast meat diagonally, I was impressed with how effortlessly the knife worked its way through the meat; even as I sliced, the slightly crispy skin stayed intact as I place the meat on the serving tray. I followed as you demonstrated and had the exact result, the meat came off the carcass exactly as it did in the demonstration. Christmas dinner was successful at my house, and I gave you credit while passing along your youtube video and site address. Thank you for a detailed presentation; your caring and beautiful personality came out as you shared your artful teaching gifts while you cook. Again, Merry Christmas and the Happiest of New Years. Subtly, you convince me to buy one of those newer model thermometers to get the temperature perfect without having to open the oven so often.
Hi Mark - I'm thrilled to hear this turkey recipe was a success for Christmas dinner! Thanks so much for sharing and I hope you have a great New Years as well. And yes, that thermometer sure does come in handy 😊

I've been looking around for an easy way to make a turkey, I have had enough dry birds from a cooking bag that my mom makes that I am destined to set out and make a change, lol! I'm definitely trying this recipe tomorrow. I just was wondering if I could use dry herbs instead of fresh? And how to convert it to dry? Thank you :) can't wait to give it a go!
That's my question as well if we can use dried herbs.. I live in a very rural area and no way I'll find fresh ones the day before I'm making my turkey 😬
I used dry herbs as well as some of my favorite seasonings and it came out delicious and flavorful’ I would just use extra of the dry herbs to make up for it not being fresh
@Alex O thank you! That is what I thought but wasn't sure. I bought some dry herbs couldn't find any fresh. And boy I never realized thyme smelled like dirt! Lol

She has definitely saved me. I was asked “do you even know how to cook a turkey?” By my flippant brother so I said yes and found this video hahaha
I see I’ve came to the right spot😩 it’s everyone’s first time including mine.. trying this for tomorrow 🤞🏼
You got this! Let us all know how it went 👍
How is it going?
@@MegaFinalRound I took my turkey down from the freezer into the fridge section on Sunday and it's still frozen!!! Nooooooo!!!!
I FEEL THAT! All I see is first timers like myself too😩😂 Mines cooking in the oven almost ready! Happy Thanksgiving all 🦃😃
Just checked on mine. One hour left but the butter seemed a little burnt. Overall looks good though and smells great!
Last year we followed this video to roast our turkey at home for the very first time. It was a great success. This year we are going to make the turkey again following this exact video. I wanna say thank you again for this great and helpful video. May you have a blessed and joyful Thanksgiving!
Hope your turkey turned out just as good as last year Steven! 😊
This is my first time ever making a turkey haha, a bit nervous but i feel like ill do good now with this good video 😄
Mee too first time
Yay! Can't wait to see how your turkey turns out Yoan 😊
Good luck, brother. It's not hard at all once you get it down.
Me tooo
Good luck, I'm sure your turkey will be delicious. Just keep positive . Happy Thanksgiving
The best directions I’ve ever read on how to thaw prepare and cook a turkey. Thumbs up !!!!!!!!
Glad this was helpful! 😊
Followed this exactly today. Best turkey ever. I don’t usually eat the white meat but today I could have eaten all of it. So moist. Perfect recipe for sure. Turned out picture perfect! Thank-you!
I made my first turkey last year and I used this recipe and my family loved it. I’m making it again this year.
Awesome! I'm so happy to hear this turkey recipe will be making a repeat appearance this year! :)
This is going to be my first year cooking a turkey for thanksgiving and we are hosting a few hunters from Quebec so there's the added pressure lol I'm going to use this recipe and be happy I'm not completely clueless on how to do it now.
same here , good luck then! :) greetings from Poland
@@katarzynauszczek4452 mine turned out great! This recipe was a life saver!
My first time too!!!
I used this same recipe last year and it was my first time!! Turned out awesome. Coming back again this year to make it for Thanksgiving again! :))
Use a special cooking bag so it'll be juicey
Oh wonderful! I'm so thrilled you loved the recipe Maureen. I wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving!
THIS IS THE BEST RECIPE EVER!! It was my first time making a turkey and I followed this exactly and it the moistest turkey I’ve ever ate in my life
First time making a turkey and my picky eater kids said it’s the best turkey, it’s moist.
What was the temperature you set your oven

I’ve always done the Turk in my fam. This will be my 20th thanksgiving with my wife and kids. For me. The hardest thing to do while making a Turk in the time. Jeez it takes forever. I. The guy always opening the oven. I just can’t wait.
She is really nice and happy
Just got married a year ago, so this will be my first turkey ever. Can't wait until tomorrow, thank you for the tips :)
I followed this video step by step last year and it was amazing! Everyone loved the Turkey. Now I came back to it to have another successful thanksgiving dinner 😊
Thrilled to hear this video helped you create the perfect Thanksgiving turkey! Can't wait to see how yours turns out this year 😊
This was my second year cooking a turkey on my own, I was a little terrified last year however your flawlessness to detail provided me confidence. My turkey came out "FABULOUS" 😊
Thank you for your passion, willingness, and being a great teacher!
Last year we started a tradition that me and my brother would do the turkey every thanksgiving. We used this recipe and the family loved it very much!!! Using the same recipe this year, right now!! Thank you so much!!!
I’ve been doing something close to this for years. It really is the best.
This was my first ever Turkey and it came out great! Thank you for such and easy tutorial. Everyone loved it!
I'm happy you enjoyed the recipe, Katie!
I made my first turkey while following this recipe and it turned out fantastic! So much easier to make than you think!
So delicious!!!!
Thrilled to hear your turkey turned out great Paul! 😊
I'm French. We don't celebrate Thanksgiving here in France but turkey is one of the dishes that we eat for Christmas' Eve ! I'm not a very good cook but I can't wait to try your recipe ! Thank you very much ! ✨
This will be perfect for making over your Christmas Eve 😊 Hope you enjoy this one!
Made this today and came out super delicious!!! So easy and so savory. It was my first time making my own thanksgiving dinner and I super stressed but it was well worth it.
Awesome! I'm so happy you loved the recipe, Ericka!
I made your recipe today, I have never made a turkey before. This was the best turkey I have ever had thank you. My guess said the same think. ❤❤❤❤
I followed the instructions from this video and successfully made the most wonderful turkey dinner for my family. This was the first time I ever attempted to make a turkey, and it turned out juicy and delicious! Thank you so much for sharing. 🦃🦃🦃
Had to come on here real quick and thank you for your recipe. I followed the instructions exactly how you said and my turkey came out super moist and juicy!!! It was my first time making it and I was so proud of myself. I was in complete shock. Thank you so much!! My family was impressed!
Me too! It was perfection.
So glad your turkey turned out perfectly! 😊
I cooked my first turkey Christmas 2020. Look forward to trying this recipe this year. Appreciate that you put the carving technique in the video. Thanks a bunch!

It’s that time of the year again. I’m back here in your comment box haha. Just watching so I can start buying the things I need for my turkey. Then will watch again next time for a refresher on how to properly cook it. THANKS ONCE AGAIN 😊
So glad to have you back! Happy Thanksgiving!
First year cooking a turkey solo. But this was a huge hit and I can honestly say that I’ve never had a turkey as moist as this one came out. I am going to be using the herb butter for a prime rib come Christmas that’s for sure.
Oh yay, so happy you loved the turkey recipe Adam! And I've got a prime rib recipe coming soon as well. ;)
did you use salted or unsalted butter?
I will be making my first turkey for Christmas this year its still in the freezer frozen, just removed it today after watching your video, hopefully by Friday it will be good to go. Thanks for the recipe. Happy holidays to everyone.
I did it it turned out very good although I did change the recipe coz I couldn't find rosemary and sage in my local grocery stores. Thanks again for the recipe.

Your video was so so helpful to me cooking my first Turkey! It turned out great!! You rock!

If only I had powers that'd let me pull the cooked turkey out through the screen 😪😋
Hahah! Looks like you'll need to order one soon! 😊
I could care less about the color, it's just me and my pooch!
Love your videos!! You make me want to cook all the time lol
I decided to host Thanksgiving for my immediate family this year and had no idea how to cook a turkey, but this video has made me believe I can do it! Thank you so much! I'll try to update to let y'all know how it turned out. Happy Thanksgiving to all! 🍗
Hows it going
I can’t wait to hear how it went!
@@quki3 Turned out really good!! I left an update to another commenter on this thread so check it out for the results!

Have been doing this recipe for the 2nd year now, and even use it for roasted chicken too. Honestly, it's the best recipe I've ever seen. So simple and beginner friendly, and always gives a perfect result, as long as you don't forget to monitor the internal temperature.
So happy you love it!
I used to be intimidated by cooking a turkey, but after doing it for the first time two Thanksgivings ago, now I cook whole chickens and turkeys throughout the year regularly because it's such an easy way to make a big, wholesome meal that lasts for many days. And it freezes well!
It definitely is intimidating at first! But it's a lot easier than most people thing. It just takes time 😊

If you are looking for a FANTASTIC and SIMPLE recipe, STOP HERE at this video and USE THIS ONE!! I was so nervous before finding this video but I had already start to feel a sense of relief when I began to watch it because she is such a great teacher and kept it simple. And even showed us how to carve it! That was icing on the cake!! I roasted my first turkey this year (2020) on Thanksgiving and it turned out FANTASTIC thanks to this video from Downshiftology!! I love to cook and I am a new fan after this and will be following more recipes!
I'm so thrilled you loved the recipe, Brittany! Thanks for sharing your feedback. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! x
This is the third year I’m making this exact turkey. My family loves it and I enjoy making it. ❤
Hi!!! Can you *please* tell me, before you put your turkey in the oven, did you put chicken stock or vegetables stock in the roasting pan as well??? I want to put some liquid on the bottom because I plan to *INJECT* the turkey as well.
If you didn't put Broth at the bottom, did your veggies burn??
This is SO helpful, thank you!! My fiancé and I just bought our first home and we wanted to host thanksgiving this year to which I realized… I’ve never cooked a turkey😅 needless to say, I feel super prepared to do this now! Thank YOU!

Thrilled to hear this recipe was a success last year! Can't wait to see how your turkey turn out this coming Thanksgiving Carlos 😉
Lol
