This is by far the most useful and informative video I’ve watch in regard to blink cameras thank you. I’ve just ordered two sets for our house and for my in-laws here in the UK. 👍
Just bought a Blink system. It seems sufficient so far. I have had a couple of instances where I could not view any live feeds. Each time I would try to view a live feed, I would get a still photo with a play button icon in the center of the photo. When I would press it, that play button would flicker for a split second, and then return to the same still photo with a play button as before. I found the problem to be the third party WiFi that I was on at the time. That network was blocking the live feeds. Once I figured that out, I turned off the WiFi on my phone, and no longer had that problem.
I've had mine for 2 years and love them. Only replaced the batteries on my garage unit once because it's a high traffic area. Easiest and cheapest way to have a camera system in my opinion.
We really appreciated your video and tips. This is our first time using security cameras and Blink was highly recommended to us. Your video made it so much easier for us to adjust settings and gave us a great overall picture of how well they work! Thanks again!🙂.
I’ve had my 12 cameras since 2016 and learned from you today on setting them for better use; thank you. You seem to be quite successful and have multiple properties, what kind of work or business are you in? I know you give lawn maintenance info and successful knowledge on how to improve your lawn and maintain a green and manicured landscaping. Thank you for all you do for us😊
I just bought 3 blink cameras and am getting ready to set them up tomorrow. This is a very helpful video and taught me just about everything I will need to know to get it up and running. I especially appreciated the info on battery life (and settings). Thanks for posting this video.
Thanks Doc. Been looking for a good outdoor camera system. I needed to hear from someone who has experienced the quality and workmanship of a reputable system .
Hi Doc! Thanks for the info, I learned more about them. So that USB thing you plug into the “brain” part, how do you watch videos if needed? Take it out and Plug into a computer?? Thanks 😊
Great video - sorry long comment based on my experience. I've had Blink cameras for several years now, but only a 4-camera system; 3 of the older outdoor blink cameras, and 1 of the newer model. There are differences in the menu/settings from the older and newer models for those that have the older system/cameras. Further, if you have had the Blink cameras for a while (Tip) you probably fell under the free cloud storage, before Blink went to paid storage. Those under the free cloud storage will still have free cloud storage, and they will still get free cloud storage (grandfathered) on any additional cameras they add to their existing system under that same user account (if you set up a brand new account, no free cloud storage). Now I don't get anywhere close to 2-years of battery life, but I live in a residential neighborhood with foot traffic on the sidewalk, dogs being walked, cats/animals climbing up the tree, deers on the front lawn in the winter, and also deal with the Texas heat in San Antonio. I also noticed that my front lawn camera which also captures the sidewalk and street, will still capture notifications on the street at times, even though I have those zones grayed out in the app/camera setting not to pick up motion. Also, some of the highest setting will eat into battery life, i.e., IR intensity HIGH, video quality BEST, etc. I only get about 6-months, so that's why I went ahead and but the extension cable plug and plugged in 2 cameras to regular electricity...problem solved for high-traffic areas. If doable, you can plug in any of your Blink cameras and not worry about batteries, but you can leave the batteries in there, but note that there will be a small drain of the battery, even if it's plugged in. Placement of camera is important to understand. A Blink camera will start motion detection if there are light changes. Had this issue with my front lawn camera with the early morning sun and some reflections, so made some adjustments to prevent this. Also I have two mounted to my trees and unfortunately in high winds, the trees will move, and the Blink will capture that motion. So check areas for best placement and consider any light issues, tree swaying issues, and any issues capturing areas of moving branches from wind. Lastly, beware of woodpeckers! They will come up to the camera, peck it a few times, and usually fly off. Not really an issue and no damage to the camera, but some funny videos to watch. Great video Doc - love my Blink systems! EDIT: Additionally, I've notice that if you select the running person looking icon to stop motion for a camera, next to the pancake icon that goes into setting, that will only stop sending you notifications and will not record, but I did notice that the cameras still activate for motion based on my LED lights being on. So for example, if I'm mowing the front lawn, I just DISABLE the system which shuts it all down versus hitting the motion icon since I noticed while mowing the lawn the camera still activates. Now this was on my older two Blink cameras. Have not tested this on the new Blink cameras currently being sold by Amazon.
I have both old and new cameras. I didn’t know that Blink now charges for the recording storage. Wow, I’m lucky. Cameras lately are NOT activating like they are supposed to, they work sporadically on movement and I can’t figure out why, maybe I should ask Doc.
I recently bought the 5 camera system, little upset that I spend almost 400 and now bestbuy has it on sale for 219 lol, but I love these cameras. They have better night view then my zmodo cameras do. Definitely want more of these when I get a house. I highly recommend these cameras. Only problem I have is the slight delay in motion during live view and the continue question while viewing live but these cameras are very nice
Fantastic, thorough video. I was really worried about the wifi range because everything I've read states 100 ft, but I believe you more when you say the range is 300 ft. Thanks for the video.
My Blink cameras will record the fact that something happened, but the footage isn’t clear enough to see who did it. I normally alert the neighborhood that something happened. They capture video of high enough quality to identify a person or vehicle. They aren’t notified anything happened because they stream video in 24/7. Once alerted of a time of an incident, they pull up high quality video.
Love our blink system. If you had them for over 3 years you should be grandfathered into the free unlimited plan. I have 1 system with 10 cameras and haven’t paid a dime in fees. I started with 5 cameras and get some add ins when they are on sale. Usually about $30 a camera.
The majority of people have heard of cameras - They take still pictures or video. The segment most interesting and worthwhile about 'these' types of security cameras is to do with storage, access to it and any mandatory subscription costs, if any, involved. Subscription free local storage was mentioned but nothing about how to access it or how much footage in terms of quality or duration is stored etc.. So, 19 minute video with 10 seconds skimming over the most important feature.
Salam to ALL. Thanks, you just helped me to make my final decision to buy. Subscribed and UP. I like the way you explained, speaking and you are likable great man, THNKS AGAIN.
Love this system. I bought the 5 camera system. Considering the doorbell from blink as well. Only issue I have noticed is the ir light isn’t very strong. It’s great at 1 story but at 2 stories it looses a lot of its night vision capabilities. Considering getting an ir floodlight and mounting it to some post in the yard
You should try solar for the ones outside of you have a good area for it. I have 4 solar ones because I’d have to use a ladder to get to them or get on a roof. And if like to avoid that.
How wide of a area does a camera cover. That's the only thing you didn't cover for me. Your video is the best of all the Blink video's that I've looked at. About 8.
After seeing one of your other videos about these, I got a couple systems myself. It turns out they don't work so well if your internet isn't very good. I've got DSL at one of my places and it takes so long to establish a motion detection that the cause of the alarm is long gone by the time it starts recording. Other than that, they're really nice.
Hey Doc, How have the Camera's been holding up? Have you upgraded any to the new Gen 4 version and if so how do you like them compared to the Gen 3's. Thanks, Brian
When you talked about the camera mounts, the only one that you showed or really explained was the one that you do not prefer. I would like to know more about the one that you do prefer and where or how to obtain it
Great information and description, Doc. I have the blink outdoor cameras and like them. I don't always get notifications when a camera sensor is triggered. I have an iPhone 8. Do you have a suggestion? I have a monthly subscription plan with Blink.
Cool Doc,I like your styles...& I'd have the same amount of cameras as you fella,if I had the same amount of really nice properties.Good luck too you.👌
I recently bought two minis and the sync for my apartment. I use them facing out the window (and they work great). i am still using the free subscription but once it ends i will only be using the sync…. My question… is there a way for me to see live views of both cameras at the same time when I go into the app? Thanks
This is well done and informative. If I may, is there a way to isolate one camera that you want to allow other third party's access too while keeping the balance of your cameras private viewing? Thanks.
Edit lol. I knew before opening this video it would be great video. I really did and it's because you are freaking awesome and thorough no matter what you do. Okay now I know I edited the top but I have to add this. I have 5 dogs thanks to being easy going and my girlfriend. They are in and out of my backyard day and night. I can't believe that wouldn't eat at a battery in lightening speed. 15 seconds would be 30 minutes really fast.
Can you have the signal from the camera captured by your local wifi without being sent to a cloud or any where else, then hard wire router to PC & then control that PC with your phone remotely ?
Great review, I've been wanting to get the blink camera I might finally get a set. Question, I've always wondered does it hurt the tree if you screw the mount into the tree? Thanks.
So I have one on the way, hasn't shipped yet actually but my only concern is internet and space capacity of the cameras. I ordered the 5 kit one. I plan on activating it while I'm away at work or out to run errands MAINLY .. now If Im away and my phone is OFF for any reason will it still be recording live? until I get back home to wifi? Capacity? do we NEED like individual micro sd cards for each camera to save to certain cameras? example! : camera 1 catches a thief stealing my package, but the space runs out so footage is erased or not recorded. Hopefully you or anybody gets what I mean. I wish I could use one in my car AWAY from home but I think it HAS to be in proximity of the wifi box right ? Example 4 cameras at home. 1 in my car when away from home. Will the camera still work in my car as long as I have my phone with it? or its only powered around the wifi router?
FYI - The first generation of Blink indoor camera does not have a phsical internal swtich setting to control the blue Status LED or any software option.
Can multiple users login at the same time? I have Arlo for past 5 years and that is the only thing I don't like. I'm ready to switch to a new system so curious about that feature. If multiple users can login simultaneously than i'm probably going to look deeper into this. I like the micro SD card storage feature. My batteries in arlo are rechargeable but that is not a deal breaker if I switch to Blink. The scheduling feature is something I need to think about 😞
Any want let me now how many feet the camara can record and take notice when some body car pass anything got my car parking like 60 feet away or my house don't now camara sensor work good take anything happen and the sink card to thank you
I want to add a system, but your instructions at 8:10 aren't working for me . I already have a system on my phone for a non-profit where I volunteer. I would like to add a system for home. Bought mine based on Doc’s review 2 years ago, zero problems excellent system
This is by far the most useful and informative video I’ve watch in regard to blink cameras thank you. I’ve just ordered two sets for our house and for my in-laws here in the UK. 👍
The peace and quiet around there (and the sunshine) is lovely! Greetings from a cold, damp & dark Dublin!

Blink is a great system, but if you’re looking for instant notifications…blink isn’t it. I’m transitioning from blink to ring for this reason.
Thank you you are so helpful!!
Does it make a high pitch sound on both the phone and camera when talking. My dog hates the canary system
Thank you! Your information and opinion really was valuable!
Great video from the module brain to the camera whao the maximum distance i can install it
Varies with LINE OF SIGHT... i.e. in a window up high I've had one reach 100 feet plus.
