I just bought this camera setup. Will be hooking them up tonight. This was a helpful video. I bought the 5 camera setup. We've had some vandals in our neighborhood. Better to be safe than sorry.
Well Doc, you got it all figured out. It cost me over 1500 dollars with over a year of paying the security company to monitor the high tech cameras I had installed. Cameras are hard wired and of 1080p but the phone app only worked about 10% of the time and the DVR's were replaced 3 times. After an incident I called the security company to ask them why they didn't alert me. They just told me they don't monitor the cameras only the burglar alarm for doors and windows and such but if the app goes off I will get an alert on my phone. Well, that never happened so I opted out of the 80 dollar a month monitoring fee they charge for doing nothing on top of the burglar system they monitor. The cameras work great but now I am looking for a new DVR and a good app that works like yours. Thanks for the great info, you gave me another avenue to check out.
I've been researching cameras for about two weeks. I've watched tons of RUclips videos. I ordered this camera after watching your video. Excellent video
Doc sold me on getting 4, and so far so good, they've been running for about a month, only one camera had battery issues, I purchased new batteries, change the settings and it works just fine. Doc, "blink" should be paying you or giving you some free tee shirts or something...you simplified the whole process, thanks.
I am so glad I found you!... If I was blessed enough to keep you, :),.. I wouldn't need this video on how to do all this wed cam stuff. I am doing this all on my own little self, been looking at cameras and systems its all too much for me....but now I have you,..I love the way you explain everything!! Thank you soooo much. I live in a crime area, recently had a bicycle stolen, they actually had to cut a chain I had locking a gate, and the chain the bike had on it!! thank you !! I will probably have to watch 2 or 3 or 4 videos 5 or 6 times!!Lol!!
Doc, you'll never read this. I'm on here 11 months later. I've got door bell. This is a better system by far. Plus, you saved me a lot of time on the set up. Thanks. I lived in Bulloch County. Corrupt place. I now live in Texas. Eaglegards...
I wish I had seen this video before christmas when I was considering buying a ring camera. Luckily I had another browse and discovered blink. I bought ×2 for £65 I'm on the ground floor so perfect for front and back, so saved a lot of money not buying the door bell cams. They were reduced to £60 Christmas, sold out everywhere then went back up to £90 again. Now theres another generation out and quite expensive especially on Amazon. Brilliant review as said previously.
I been using Blink about 2 years now. I just love them... but I love the XT2 camera better. I just changed out batteries on one camera in 2 years.. I have 6 XT2 and 3 inside (white) cameras.
Hi Doc, your video ended up on my RUclips feed. I’m not sure how or why because looking at your site, I have no interest in lawn care. That being said, I wish I did because if this video of your camera system is any indication of how you share...you should teach lessons. I learned a ton about this brand as a result of watching. You’re clear, detailed descriptions left me with no questions. I also appreciate that it doesn’t look like you shill for this company meaning you did your own research, installed it and gave your honest assessment. Thank you! Best wishes to you
Extremely well done - I am long time user of Blink cameras in my home and learned quite a bit in this video. Can't believe I never thought of putting two hubs on the network for dual scheduling. Thanks so much. Great content well communicated. Appreciated !
I just ordered the 5 camera system. I thought about buying a 3 and a 2 to get 2 boxes. I wish I saw this before I ordered, but I will probably go back and get another box or controller and covers and even angle mounts. Thanks for the information!!
Fantastic video!!! I appreciate the time you took to explain the features and why they're useful. I just received a 3 Camera / 1 Controller set and will be ordering another 3 Camera set for my office. Just a note regarding the WiFi Extender issue you discussed. Most WiFi Extender devices will allow you to rename the Extender's SSID during the initial setup. What I've done in some cases is to give the Extender's SSID the SAME NAME as the Main SSID. This will basically allow the various wireless devices to grab the connection with the highest signal strength while keeping them on the same SSID. Thanks again for the great overview.
Good overall video of the camera. I wasn't aware of the short comings of the HUB and the possibility of needing a second hub. I like the optional covers and adjustable stand - great accessory. I would like to have seen more detail on "System Set Up" - functions / recommendations.
I saw it was a 24 minute video and almost didn’t watch it. But I sure am glad I did! Your hack about ordering the two camera kits is awesome. I’m going to set it up the same way you did, always on in the front door and disable one system when I’m in the backyard or the kids or dogs are running around. That way I’m always covered, security wise at the front entrance. Thanks again, keep it up. And please do some more reviews On more stuff. You’re very informative and thorough
I recently purchase a 5 camera rig for my house and planning on adding 1 or 2 more cameras. Something to consider, if the reason to end up with two control units is to take some of the cameras off schedule, an alternative would be on those cameras that you do not want to have a schedule in the filter, mask the entire screen using activity zones and/or disable motion detection.
I got one today via Amazon on sale. I considered it a yard video because I found dog crap in yard (green because of you Doc) and I want to catch the person who letting the dog do it. Thanks for the video
An excellent video. I bought these cameras along with two modules to achieve two different operational schedules. Additionally I bought the more adjustable mounting brackets. Without your help, I would have made a purchase error. Thank you very much!
I've had Blink cameras for several years now. Can't recommend them highly enough! One note of caution, the batteries will not last the advertised 2 years, however they are just lithium AA's, so it isn't a hassle at all to replace, as long you can easily get to the camera. Keep that in mind when mounting them. I average about 10 alerts a day and my batteries easily last 6 months...so not the 2 years as advertised, but I'm still perfectly happy.
I am looking at all options for home wifi, so this video helps alot. For your question on end of video, you can use a Mesh Network Wifi System and you only use one network name and password. Each satellite unit will not use a different name for connecting, as a wifi extender does.
Thanks Doc! I just ordered the 3 pack, the 360 mounts , the hoods and the WiFi extender. I’m happy with the alarm system but I want to know what’s going on around my house and vehicles. Going left to right, I have the left side of the house, a small driveway, 3 car garage then a 40 yard long driveway. I’m going to have all those areas covered now. I can hide one camera at license plate level to capture faces and car images better. After seeing your video I knew this was exactly what I needed. Thanks 🙏! Kevin Williams new subscriber
I agree 100% I ordered my first two cameras on Prime Day, the system works as advertised. I just received my third camera yesterday. This system could not be easier to install or operate. FYI The system can be hardwired also.
Great video overall. If it hasn’t already been covered of in the many comments, you may want to make a correction around your mention of the Camera needing WiFi connection. The cameras do not actually use WiFi, only the hub does. The cameras communicate with the Blink Hub via low-Frequency-Radio (LFR). That is one of the key factors as to why the battery has a much longer life. Thanks
Thanks for the great advice and info. I have just installed one at my home in the UK. Took a short while to stop false alarms but I now have it working spot on. Thanks again buddy.
Thanks for the great Blink review. You mentioned WiFi and how you would like to utilize your extensions. The solution for me is using mesh wifi system that uses one ssid for both bands and will select the better point of use router.
Nice video, Doc. A couple of observations of my Blink system: These sensors in these cameras are sensitive enough to respond to shadows, like a back-lit tree wiggling in the wind casting its shadow on the lawn. Bees, wasps, spiders, spiderwebs, sprinklers, rain, the shadow of a plane passing overhead, falling leaves, moths, slugs, the sun's reflection, and hummingbirds have all shown up in my videos. Also these cameras don't seem very happy around small gas engines; their ignitions screw with the radio signals. Buy batteries, lots of batteries, particularly if you run the IR illuminators at full power. I've had 2-3 weeks life in one camera that gets used a lot, perhaps 50-100 times a day. When the batteries start to get low, and the camera is triggered at night, the illuminator fires up for about a second and then shuts down for a second. Blink, blink, blink. This cycle will repeat until whatever triggered the camera moves out of range. I suspect that the illuminator draws so much power from the not particularly weak batteries that the processor shuts down, which shuts the illuminator down. Battery voltage then rises and the processor comes back to life and the cycle starts again. Their solution is to replace the batteries. Save them, they'll work for a long time in a less demanding application. They aren't kidding about using only lithium batteries. They're the only ones that will hold up. I also wish that each camera could be scheduled individually as I have to shut down several of my cameras at the same time each day to deal with the shadows causing excessive triggering (sprinklers can generate lots of videos, too). It would provide a very suitable workaround for something that really can't be "fixed" as it's just the nature of the beast. On a positive note, these cameras will detect a car 150 feet away. More, if the car's hot against a cold background. For the money, they're a pretty good deal.
Each camera has a sensitivity setting on the settings page. You can adjust them. Mine rarely go off, maybe 2-3 times a week. But that's due to the way I set up the system as shown in the video.
Really good video, just bough these cameras in a 5 pack, price was unbeatable, watching your video just gave me peace of the decision I made, I also purchased right away the mounts you recommended with the silicone covers, I’m excited to get them and install. Thank you for the video
Great informative video. I was having issue with one of my cameras only having 2 bars and not receiving images or videos. After seeing this, I ordered the wifi extension, so hopefully it'll help. Edit: wifi extension did help me get the wifi connection to the other camera. All 3 are working great and thinking about adding a couple more cameras.
You are my hero 😁installed the system yesterday and my problem was the time schedule. I want to have 1 cam separately scheduled. Now I know how to do. Thanks 🙏 subscribed
Doc let me tell yea. it has been a very long time since anyone on youtube has explained something so detailed and perfect really dumbed it down for me. you got me sold blink should sponser you to try new products thanks again!!
Great info and how to, thank you!!! I'm in the process of rigging my RV with cameras since I now live in it full time after losing my husband earlier this year to ALS when I had to take him off his vent April 30. New chapter as a senior gal in my 60s living in an RV. Security cameras are a must. I do have large protective dogs but I want footage around my rig in case something happens.
I'm looking for security for my RV too. Have you bouggt these if so are you able to use your cell phone wireless signal with them with thr traveling RV. My new RV was vandalized ladt night while I was sleeping. I have a feeling they followed me afyer the first incedent..as they found me and damaged my rv even more. I'm so upset and wantba system for protection. Please reply with your review. Blessings .. thank you.
So the alert is actually sent far after the sensor was triggered. Depending on the length of the clip recording. That could be too late for most people. Should be alerted as soon as the sensor is activated and begins to record.
Glad to have found your channel. My husband sent me on a mission to find a wireless camera to keep an eye on our bunnies. We think our crazy neighbors are coming in our back yard at night. Very informative video. 👍😊
I bought an arlo system a year ago. I sent it back because of the monthly charge that they didn't mention in ad. Saw another ad for a new arlo system and they said no monthly fee. So I bought another system. Got it out of the box and the paperwork says no monthly fee for the first 3 months. So they lied a second time. It's on my desk. Considering sending it back also and go with blink. Thanks for the info.
pam p I’ve had the Arlo cameras for a few years now. Five pack security system with no monthly charge. The cameras are a little pricy but very reliable.
I have the Arlo pro 2 cameras and I don’t pay any monthly fee. They store the footage for 7 days in the cloud for no fee. I think the new 4K cameras have a fee tho.
Awesome video Doc. Latency actually isn't as bad as i had figured it would be and for the price point, i don't think that system can be beat! Wish I would have known that before I bought my lorex....
You gave a great detailed review. In real time working of the system. I was going to buy a hard wired system but with your review and the major price difference, as well as, the surprising quality, I would buy this system. Again, Thank You for a great review.
Red Dragon Hello did you get the system and how’s it working out. How are picture and video quality. Blink had negative reviews because of picture quality and Amazon halted sales until they Blink resolves issues. Thanks
I have three questions at this time. 1. Exterior temperature for good operation ? ( Winter freezing, Summer 100 degree + ) 2. Do you need a separate router if you have cable? 3. Towards the end of your 24:44 min. Video it shows a shed in the back of your property, can you get reception that far away?
Great job! I really appreciate all your input on this and other topics you cover. You are very thorough in your reviews and provide fair assessments. Thank you!
Fantastic and thorough video! I l bought 2 cameras for my front yard already, really just to test them out and see if I like them but I was quickly impressed as you are. Same opinion regarding the camera ring doorbell and I'm already considering buying more blink cameras for our back yard etc. My thoughts/suggestions were exactly what you mentioned, having a different controller for specific camera/ schedules or to disarm/arm individual cameras (which is not yet available but would be nice if it was in an update!) I'm really impressed and currently messing with the settings/sensitivities as our front camera is near a busy road and I don't want to pick up unnecessary vehicles driving by. Really enjoyed this video and I feel like you touched on everything needed for someone looking for info and also your suggested silicone covers and brackets if needed. I'm curious to see how they hold up during our Canadian seasons and how long the batteries really last as I've read different, conflicting reviews regarding the batteries. I will be sharing your video with others and I have already sent your video to my husband so he can be just as excited about these cameras as I am because I like being able to see what's going on when we're not home or when we're asleep, see a live video when I feel like it. Fantastic and thorough video once again, take care. P.S I noticed you shared this video 11 months ago, curious if you have any new suggestions, tips or opinions since you recorded this.
To the world’s most beautiful man, from the world’s most dumbest tech SOB. You made that demonstration look easy and very informative so Thank you very much from the UK. 👍❤️🇬🇧
I hope you are an instructor because you explains things very well and do so in a way that it is easy to understand how the entire system works. I was always a bit confused about the wireless systems but not anymore. One might think that you work for Blink? Hmmmm?
Wish I seen before today ..... bought one yesterday.... after seeing this I need to buy some more ...... pity I cannot mount one looking back to the front of my house ...... I also wish all the folks who don’t rate this on Amazon reviews watch your enthusiasm...regards fred
I have this setup and it’s great! Doc, I use a Wink hub system and then you can operate each camera separately. They really do an amazing job. I’ve had mine a year now.
I would like to see an update on this product. I understand that you no longer get "free" storage so utilization of the USB or your own cloud storage system would be helpful information. It would be interesting to know if your thoughts on recommendations did any good. Basically, these systems are designed to make money so they limit product features that might improve utilization. Thanks.
Doc, I know everybody has their opinion, but generally when looking at reviews, I add up the 5-star, and the 4-star, and like around 85%. But with this outfit I'm only seeing 61%. The system does look promising, and it's very reasonably priced. I think I'm going to look around some more. Doc, you did a great in depth review though. I did like your review. Thanks, John
Thanks... Honestly... I rarely read reviews on Amazon. I research the product, order it, use it, and review it. If I don't like it... I don't do a review.
I had an electrical outlet near my garage camera and bought an electrical extension cable on Amazon and was able to plug into power to run longer video recordings and save on the batteries. It's a cable for the blink cameras. Blink cameras use lithium AA high capacity batteries also sold on Amazon. You said you can update the firmware, can you show how. It works great with the Amazon Fire TV Stick, you just tell Alexa to show you the front camera and it shows it on your TV.
Great video. I would like to install these cameras to record my spouse abuse which mean when he come home I can record for few hours rather than few minutes clips for court evidence
Thanks for this thorough demonstration! Is there a monthly fee for monitoring? Would’ve loved to see camera quality of human and face detection in night vision. Also, How much storage capacity does it have if just those few short clips have used up 4% ? Do you know how long clips are stored for?
Thank you so much! You explained everything very well. Especially having the extra camera AND the extra controller! I think I have made my decision to purchase the Blink brand
Get with the times get a mesh system for WiFi then only one network. There is also a switch in there with the battery to turn that blue light off on the camera so people don’t see your system at night. Looking at them on Amazon and looks like they’re selling the sync module separate, when I scroll down to questions someone asks if they come with a sync kit they answer NO, I’m pretty much wanting to mirror your setup. This is the first video explaining the sync mod THANKs
Hello. For someone considering the Blink system, this was a GREAT video!! I know that WiFi cameras can eat up data / bandwidth, so could you let us know about how much data your system would use each month? I am on an internet plan that has a capped data amount, so that would be one of the deciding factors for me.
I'd like each camera to be able to chose which wifi SSID I want it to connect to. There are times when you don't want all your wifi extenders to be named with the same SSID because then you may not be able to adjust the wifi channel used by each and therefore you may have interference between each extender using the same channel. If you can 'tune' each extender to use a different channel then no issue. Hope that makes sense.
We no longer need infrared sensors, modern camera sensors now have an exposure range close to that of an owl, who can virtually see in the dark and hoot too!
ALWAYS...ALWAYS INSTALL CAMERAS FACING EACH OTHER IN ANY GIVEN AREA...NOT AS EASY TO SNEAK UP AND DISABLE, CUZ OTHER ONE WILL SEE WHO IS DISABLING THE OTHER !
Great Camera but I worry about the length of the batteries. My system has full color night time recording and a battery backup system in basement . Great Video!!
I just bought this camera setup. Will be hooking them up tonight. This was a helpful video. I bought the 5 camera setup. We've had some vandals in our neighborhood. Better to be safe than sorry.
where do you keep controller?

Daniel Buergo that’s exactly what I was thinking! I think the Arlo system sends alert and records at the same time.
You'll see in next video
Glad to have found your channel. My husband sent me on a mission to find a wireless camera to keep an eye on our bunnies. We think our crazy neighbors are coming in our back yard at night. Very informative video. 👍😊
I got them 3 weeks ago and love it.
Best review on this product I have seen. Great Video😎
Thx for the heads-up 👍
Obviously Arlo brand can't be trusted! wow
pam p I’ve had the Arlo cameras for a few years now. Five pack security system with no monthly charge. The cameras are a little pricy but very reliable.
I have the Arlo pro 2 cameras and I don’t pay any monthly fee. They store the footage for 7 days in the cloud for no fee. I think the new 4K cameras have a fee tho.
Thanks so much, blink help me so much being a single mother plus home to self . 👌👍🏻
Awesome video Doc. Latency actually isn't as bad as i had figured it would be and for the price point, i don't think that system can be beat! Wish I would have known that before I bought my lorex....
Doc, I heard you turn blue light off if needed so folks don’t see it at night👍🏻
theninjakid10
True. I turned mine off.
Thank you for all the great information. I just installed mine today and so all your knowledge was extremely helpful.
( Winter freezing, Summer 100 degree + )
My thoughts/suggestions were exactly what you mentioned, having a different controller for specific camera/ schedules or to disarm/arm individual cameras (which is not yet available but would be nice if it was in an update!)
I'm really impressed and currently messing with the settings/sensitivities as our front camera is near a busy road and I don't want to pick up unnecessary vehicles driving by.
P.S
I noticed you shared this video 11 months ago, curious if you have any new suggestions, tips or opinions since you recorded this.
To the world’s most beautiful man, from the world’s most dumbest tech SOB. You made that demonstration look easy and very informative so Thank you very much from the UK. 👍❤️🇬🇧
Needed a mini WiFi invisible fly camera .but this camera also so good for home security .excellent & very nice job with this helpful video .thanks
Really nice breakdown of this blink brand, much appreciated
You are a Wonderful teacher !!
He did the best video on the blink camera describing the setup. Thanks.
Best video tutorial by far on Blink XT2! Thank you buddy! I just ordered one! 😎
I have this setup and it’s great! Doc, I use a Wink hub system and then you can operate each camera separately. They really do an amazing job. I’ve had mine a year now.
👍 Do the cameras use the same command system? (Wink?) Any links to more info about that? TIA
this is good I have ring and it takes forever to detect motion most of the time the person is gone when starts recording
Thank you so much, this is the perfect howto video for this. Look forward to your other vids.
I've been thinking about getting a system and a few infared lights, and you just happen to post this just in time
Great video.
I would like to install these cameras to record my spouse abuse which mean when he come home I can record for few hours rather than few minutes clips for court evidence
Great review of the cameras and accessories. Lots of useful detail and recommendations. Definitely helps in making the right choices. Thank you!
Thanks for this thorough demonstration! Is there a monthly fee for monitoring? Would’ve loved to see camera quality of human and face detection in night vision. Also, How much storage capacity does it have if just those few short clips have used up 4% ? Do you know how long clips are stored for?
Preciate that doc, been looking into camera systems and I’m liking this one... 👍
super dupper explanations !!!!! Thanks Doc. !!!
Your video helped me understand how Blink works... Thank you
Glad it helped!
Been watching lots of videos on this subject, yours is the best, especially with re: to the set up , connections, etc.
Hello. For someone considering the Blink system, this was a GREAT video!! I know that WiFi cameras can eat up data / bandwidth, so could you let us know about how much data your system would use each month? I am on an internet plan that has a capped data amount, so that would be one of the deciding factors for me.
Change the name of your extender to the same as your router. You have one wi-fi network name available to all devices.
Glad to see your hibiscus tree in background. I was wondering how to prune it.
Excellent video!, just one question, ¿does the iOS app have multiple live view?
What an in depth review. You just sold me this tbh
We no longer need infrared sensors, modern camera sensors now have an exposure range close to that of an owl, who can virtually see in the dark and hoot too!
I dont know what your videos are about normally but you made a great review
This video is great and very informative. One question I have is can your system be monitored from more than one cell phone?
Thankyou, for recommending this home system, you were very detailed.
Thanks for the great review! Only complaint is...... you didn’t actually link the silicone case or the swivel mount 😩
Joseph DeFreitas click on the link. Everything is there.
ALWAYS...ALWAYS INSTALL CAMERAS
FACING EACH OTHER IN ANY GIVEN
AREA...NOT AS EASY TO SNEAK UP
AND DISABLE, CUZ OTHER ONE WILL
SEE WHO IS DISABLING THE OTHER !
Good advice
or just keep the cameras up and out of sight...but by the time they notice a camera theyre already on video
mark rush thank you for your video, very helpful. I am 62. Old lady I make my system work. 👍
Question can i see this camera if iam out of the country.?
Great advice. Thank you
I've just ordered one of these, they look amazing.
Did u get them? What do you think? I've had mine for 4 weeks now! Great I'm impressed.
Wow! I Appreciate this, More than words! My Family Thanks you
Where can I get the little coats for them to protect from weather lol! You were great, good idea to have a second way to set different timers.
Thank you so much I wanted to buy some cameras but didn’t know which one to buy. I’m going with the one you bought.
I just purchased these, thank you for posting this video it was very helpful. Thanks again Doc
Finally I found a video that I can understand thank you so much 😊.
Very impressed with your video! Thanks for taking the time for putting the review together.
🎥 📸 THANK YOU FOR YOUR CAMRA SETUP 📸 🎥
Thank you, looks like this could be the one for me. Question, adapters to convert US plug to Australian. Greetings from Aussie.
Great Camera but I worry about the length of the batteries. My system has full color night time recording and a battery backup system in basement . Great Video!!
I just purchased blink a few days ago. Thanks for this video.
