I had a problem with a neighbor saying that we put a pool too close to her fence. We were forced to get a surveyor to make sure we didn't have to remove the pool. Come to find out, her fence was 3 inches on our property in our backyard and 18 inches over in the front of my house. So just because your house is squared up to the street it doesn't necessarily mean that your property lines follow that. Her reaction was ABSOLUTELY PRICELESS and didn't believe it. So now she had to spend her own $500 to get her own confirmation. It was done by the city and not our own personal surveyor 😂😂😂

So we were trimming the shrubs between our house and the asshole neighbors and the husband came out of his house and asked us if we know where the property line is? I said not exactly, but these shrubs are definitely growing over the property line so we will be cutting them. He got pissed off and went into his house. We told our neighbor on the other side what was going on. She’s lived in the neighborhood for 45 years and told us that not only is his house of foot on our property, but so is hers. And she told us we could make them move the pump house for their pool if we really wanted to because it’s literally on our property. The next day he had two surveyors out there, buddies of his he’s an archaeologist. After they left, we never heard another word about it.
We aren’t spiteful enough to make them take the pool house down and move the fences.

Stop with the victim-mentality. Not all, but most, abusers like this keep doing it because they get away with it. Something has to stop them - law enforcement, the victim taking a stand, concerned friends or family, etc. Empower people to be their own advocate or to accept help because it is readily available to most people who reach out to friends, family and social service agencies. Making excuses might make them feel that they're not responsible for their circumstances (which they're not, up to a point) but it's never helpful and is sometimes dangerous.

I don’t usually comment but I can’t help myself this time. I was in law enforcement for 10 years. I was a medic for twenty and now work as a PA in the ER. Videos like this give my PTSD rocket fuel to burn. There’s a saying in police work. “90% of your contacts are with 10% of the population”. It has been proven true in every one of my careers. It jades you to think that society as a whole is like this.
    1) I pity the husband. I’ve seen “that guy” countless times in my life
    2) the officer was professional beyond compare. Handled himself probably better than I could have
    3) Leon, your videos are great and your narrating and interjections are what brings me back and gives me joy. Please keep up your yeoman’s work and helping me recover. 😂

My dad had an ongoing feud with both his neighbors for YEARS because one dared mow into his yard a few feet and the other put a stake in the ground for a tree tie off. Every time I saw him he’d give me the update of the latest argument or fight he had with them. It was an absolute shit show and he’d go off on long rants about how horrible they were on a regular basis.
    Absolutely bizarre behavior.
My neighbor routinely mows into my yard because he has big bushes near the property line and after he’s done making the cuts around them, he’s gone into my lawn. So then he finishes by doing a line from street to fence to straighten it out.
I watch him from my window and silently thank him for making my mowing just a little bit easier.
The stupid shit people decide to let ruin their days is baffling to me.

It's really so sad because she has a husband that obviously loves her so much he's willing to take her abuse.
My advice to him would be to separate with her and work on his self worth. Then maybe once she sees that she's losing everything she loves, it may be enough to decide she needs to get sober.
Thankfully leaving for many months is what finally made my love stop abusing alcohol. And this past year has been awesome. He's the real him and not that monster that comes out when drunk.

Property lines are established with a survey. They should pay a surveyor to show them where the property line is, the deed usually do not have a survey attached. In my experience she could get the line surveyed for around $500-800. I know from working on hundreds of properties that you cannot tell where it is by looking around on the site (unless there are corner pins).

Simple solution - have the property line surveyed.

I have spent 2 years in court over a “ property line dispute”. Had 2 surveys and an attorney, to the tune of about 7,500.00. She would call the sheriffs department if I even went near the fence and claim that I was threatening her. She would record our interaction every time but I never said anything to her or even acknowledge that she was there or speaking, so she never had anything to show them. I told them to ask for the video, she said she didn’t record it. The deputies were sick of her. I even heard the deputy almost screaming at the neighbor to get her own survey if she didn’t like it. Court ruled in my favor. She was claiming 22 ft about an acre long with a shed on it. She tried to claim it with adverse possession cuz she had paid the taxes on it. In court she used her status as an immigrant, a woman, and living alone because her husband was in the military. All as part of her defense. And she actually had a drainage ditch dug to drain her horse barn onto my property. It lasted about a day when I put up no trespassing signs with the state statutes and penalties on them. It is felony illegal to drain waste onto another property in MS’sippi.

When she says “I’m a very respectful person” around the 5:00 min mark, it reminds me of Jennifer Coolidge character in a Cinderella story when she says “I’m a VERY respectable person”😂

Property line disputes can be pretty serious. If one fails to define within a certain period, a neighbour can legally claim the land as their own.
    Steps to take:
    1. Pull out your land zoning papers. They're important since you are taxed based on the grade of land the property is built. They usually give specific details of boundaries.
    2. Call the city to ensure their records match yours. If there are any uncertainties, request an inspector to verify things.
    3. The inspector will report if there is an issue and legal proceedings can then begin. The police needn't be involved.
Furthermore, even if there is no violation, construction projects of a certain stature require permits. The city will take action to have them demolished if the paperwork isn't completed. I've seen an entire home get demolished because it was 2 inches wider than the permit records despite it being within their property zone. The extra nail in the coffin was the fact they spent hundreds of thousands making the inside immaculate.
This is based on the United Kingdom but there should be similar procedures in the U.S.A.

Even if she was totally right about the property line, the only way to resolve a disputed claim is to take the person to court. The local cops won't do anything about it, you can't just take matters into your own hands, is a civil matter. You need to prove that it's your property, you will need to pay to have the line resurveyed exactly, and get an official ruling that says it's your property. Avoid property disputes at all costs. They are very rarely worth the cost and hassle unless it's a significant infringement that is actually effecting you.

Seriously!! When we were first married we had a young news reporter on one side of our condo and a totally insane woman and her poor 5 year old son on the other (the son ended up at our condo almost every night for the next 10 years, came to our family events, and told people our daughter was his little sister). We didn’t fight with them.
Our house in California had a family of 6 kids on one side and a halfway house full of insane people on the other, and we got along great with the family and had few problems with the halfway house.
Our new house in California we have a keep to themselves family on one side and an absolutely wonderful older couple on the other, and we’ve become good friends with the older couple.
    People make their own issues.

You can see how abused her poor husband is. He need to get out while he still can. He seems like a great dude. God bless him for trying to stick it out tor the kids, but your well being is important too bro. Time to kick her out, and have a cookout with your neighbors. No one on this planet would blame you bro. Very sad to see this. I've dated a few abusive women, its sad to see and brings back awful memories.
