    The cardboard box bit is even funnier now. Recently DARPA ran an experiment training an ai to detect human movement. They pitted the ai against a couple of marines who snuck up and touched the robot by sneaking in a cardboard box😂.

    To this day, the Death Battle community widely considers this to be one of the show's finest episodes, and frankly, it's not hard to see why! The fight especially is a work of art! Any Death Battle where there's a story taking place in the fight is a joy to watch!
    And if you thought Sam's death here was brutal, well..... According to the creators of the show, the original way Snake would have killed him would have been to break every bone in Sam's body. Yeah, imagine that for a second.

  • @jesussantos7380

    One thing the Death Battle didn't really emphasize to make the fight seem fairer is the Metal Gear fights. In each game, Snake regularly duels giant mechs with nothing more than hand grenades, rockets, and his wits.
    On top of that, Fisher has only fought other soldiers or assassins, but Snake can punch the Cyborg Ninjas hard enough to dent their armor, jumped off Manhattan bridge and land on a tanker without getting hurt, survived said tanker sinking while inside, and completed similar feats throughout all of MGS4 while he was physically in his 70s-80s. Snake is about as close as you can get to superhuman in Metal Gear without actually being one, considering his enemies are psychics, ghost soldiers, vampire mercs, and cyborg ninjas.

    • @ZayIvory7
      @ZayIvory7 Год назад +26

      The Cyborg Ninja fight alone is enough to justify a victory over Sam in any fashion. Ninja being able to slice bullets giving him extremely fast reaction speed, and durable enough to withstand Rex vs Snake being able to outfight, hurt and react to him is really all that's needed. And this isn't even counting other feats like fighting Vamp later on while his body was failing.

      @@AWACS_Snowblind Yep, I'm a huge Splinter Cell fan, but even I knew that Sam was doomed in this fight.
      Sam's real saving grace would've been tagging Snake on the sonar goggles and tapping him through that first wall. But if it got to knock-down, drag-out fighting like this, Snake wins pretty much every time. Sam abides the rules of reality, while Snake abides the rule of cool.

  • @thunderspear2251
    @thunderspear2251 Год назад +74

    Bethany, in Sam's defense, the game gives you the option to use non-lethal or lethal methods on all enemies, so the choice to take out the doggo is entirely on the player. And canonically, he only uses lethal (if any force at all) if absolutely necessary, so he's not such a bad guy.

I'm also huge Metal Gear Solid fan, and have played and/or reviewed all the main games in the series. I know it makes me sound biased, but I knew Snake would win as soon as they first announced the matchup. They actually had to overlook/tone down his abilities to make the fight fair. His performance in MGS1 alone would have been more than enough evidence to beat Sam. It's still so much fun to watch.

    and his friendship with otacon is great as well. when they first met, he was a mulling coward who pissed himself and was almost always annoying him in the first game. by the second game, they were partners and the best of friends, despite having very little in common. snake always counts on otacon to come through over the radio and when someone needs to fly a chopper and otacon knows snake will survive anything to get the mission done.

    Yeah, in Snake's universe, a lot of top grade soldiers all have heard of him as practically a living legend. Besides Metal Gears, he fights off the cybernetic-enhanced foes. His typical fights are practically legendary. In fact onlookers seeing him in action take him and his "legend" seriously, and even want to follow it like some kind of great symbol. Throughout the series quite a few people want to compete with him or have even changed sides. They also set these notions of standards in how things get handled "honestly". In 5 there was the "Do it yourself!" whenever something was for your own good and you were in unbearable agony like popping joints back into place or the main antagonist begging to be put to death and being left with the gun to do it, and all his limbs shot, and himself stuck. Before that one in 3 was "Fight like a man!" to imply less dirty play and be forward with what they should be capable of as they claim to be, and in the end the antagonist couldn't really live up to that either, but the real ending of 3 led with Snake killing his own mother of the field who taught him everything. The big difference from those to 5 is that in 5 isn't the real Snake, but they purposely have everyone, even the player think that's who they're being to great success.

    Just to correct you guys on one tidbit of information you're wrong about.
    Snake isn't engineered to be a better soldier. He's part of the project involving that end, but he's more of a by product of it.
    His twin brother "liquid snake" was the genetically superior soldier, having all the "soldier genes" of their father.
    Before anyone says "no you're wrong sir" it's in the end credits audio to "metal gear solid" for the PS1, revolver ocelot talking to the then president George Sears(solidus snake, big boss' exact clone with out the gene therapy and alterations). And ocelot says "so the inferior one is the winner after all. To the very end, liquid thought he was the inferior one".
    The stipulated idea is that the project that created the twin snakes was testing the nature vs nurture theory. Liquid being told he was not the super soldier, but snake is, living a shit life, while snake lived a decent ish one. Liquid growing up as a child soldier while snake got his training like any enlisted man, and then being trained by daddy dearest himself.
    Snake genetically is supposed to be the worst soldier by comparison to his twin brother liquid. But snake beat him.
    And compared to Sam Fischer, again he's genetically a bad soldier. He just has better training, experience, and way better toys

    Anyone who've played both games, it's hard to argue that Solid Snake wouldn't win. He has fought basically meta-humans and won with minimum equipment. In the 4th game, he was so handicapped in fighting due to his old age and etc, but STILL he fought a giant mech, crazy meta-human ladies, and survived a goddamn microwave. Death Battle got it right as well, when it comes to Close Quarter Combat, Snake had the edge, as CQC is usually how Snake finishes the final "Boss" battles. I recommend for ya'll to check out the Metal Gear Solid series, it's like watching a James Bond movie. You honestly don't even need to play the game as the creator, Hideo Kojima, is a huge fan of Hollywood, so there's a lot of cinematic scenes, you can kinda just watch the cutscenes to understand everything. The 4th game has so much cutscenes, it's like watching a movie with a side of gameplay.

    Aaahhh, Hideo Kojima and his games. As Bethany noted, Solid Snake did indeed castrate that statue, a perfect example of how Hideo Kojima is essentially the Amadeus Mozart of video games.
    As sophisticated as his games are, he does not shy away from potty humor, quite literally. Just like Mozart made a song dedicated to farts and feces, Kojima also likes to incorporate such jokes in his games. One such example is in MGS2 where an enemy soldier unknowingly accidentally pisses on the player's head. Yeah.... that is a thing.
    The story of MG/S is quite fascinating (Talking about how the game came to be) as the entire genre of "Stealth Action Adventure" came to be due to hardware limitations. Kojima was hired to develop a game for the MSX, a very old console with very limited hardware capability. He wanted to make a shooter, but with the limited resources couldn't fit in all that many enemies. Thus he came up with the idea that instead of focusing on fighting the enemies, he challenged players to avoid them instead and sneak past the enemies. As such, the game franchise has taken a pacifistic approach and outlook, rewarding players for avoiding violence.
    MGS3 is most notable in this aspect as it has 1 boss fight, which gets more difficult based on the number of people you've killed. Similarily in MGS4 there is an aesthetic aspect where your character become increasingly demonic looking the more violent you are. Overall all of the games focus heavily on the theme of nuclear disarmament and the inherent danger nuclear weapons have as well as peace in general, a common theme in Japanese media for understandable reasons.
    Solid Snake to Raiden: "I am not exaggarating when I say that the success of this mission hinges on how you use that cardboard box!"
    Naked Snake (Later named Big Boss) to SIGINT: "You should come inside the box, then you'll know what I mean."
    Sigint: "Man, I don't wanna know what you mean!"
    The cardboard box is ICONIC for ALL Metal Gear games!
    Also, you might've noticed that Solid Snake aged quite a bit on the scene where he emasculated that statue. As he is a clone of Big Boss, he suffers from rapid aging and as such has a significantly shorter life span than most humans.
    As for the fight itself, I have to note that Snake's aerobatics were not canon. Yes, he did have those moves in one remake of MGS1 (The Twin Snakes), but when it comes to the differences between the original and TTS, the original is considered canon and thus those aerobatics are a little out of place in this fight. As for the result, I think it's fine, I've played both games and I personally think it's a close call, don't mind either result. I suppose it's fitting that it ends in a Close Quarters Combat as that is Snake's speciality, but personally would've preferred if Sam died some other way rather than in a knife fight.

    As someone who has played both series alot and is a bigger fan of Snake overall, I would still put my money on Sam. While there's absolutely no question thst Snake far outclasses Sam in hand to hand combat, Sam is undeniably a quicker and more accurate marksman, able to consistanly headshot multiple targets in a row in under a second. Snake would not be able to take on Oscelot in an open area without something to hide behind, and i think that the same could be said of Sam. Granted this fight is in a building with things to hide behind, but i still think that Sam had enough chances to headshot Snake.
