    A little explanation of the context of the fight:
    In Dark Souls you meet a snake named “Kingseeker Frampt”, who asks you to link the first flame and maintain the age of fire. However, there’s another snake that not many manage to find, which is called “Darkstalker Kaathe”, who tells you that the age of fire is basically a scam and that he wants to bring about the age of humanity (an age of darkness) by turning off the first flame and naming you the Dark Lord.
    In this fight, the chosen Undead tries to link the flame, while Kaathe seeks help from the Dragonborn to prevent this and bring about the age of humanity. Which in a way makes sense because Alduin would bring new age by eating the world, and the main quest in Skyrim is to prevent this.
    The best thing is that neither of the two Dark Souls endings is the good or bad ending. Both have their pros and cons, so both combatants would be the heroes of their own stories.
    In the end, the Chosen Undead managed to link the flame, but the Dragonborn was powerful enough to put it out anyway, becoming de Dark Lord.
    One of my favourite Death Battles 👍

There are hours of lore videos about Gwen, Nito, Seath, The witch of Izalith, the four great souls, the other gods, the dragons, the nation's of the world, the undead curse, demons, Ariamis, the humans and undead you meet, the nature of life/death, light/dark. Also the fluffiness of Pricilla's tail.

      Mate, you misinterpreted the role of the Last Dragonborn. It is not to stop Alduin from ending the Kalpa but to correct Alduins corrupted path of domination. In actuality you course corrected Alduin by killing his corrupted form and ensured the end of the present Elder Scrolls universe.

    Don't worry. Odahviing (the dragon) didn't really die. In the Elder Scroll universe, dragons can only permanent die when their soul gets absorbed by a fellow dragon or Dragonborn.
    Since his soul didn't get absorbed, he can be resurrected.

    A trivia for this battle: when the Dragonborn calls the storm in the fight, the team used the wrong sound file for the Shout, using Clear Skies, instead of Storm Call.
    Personally, I also think Clear Skies should have been used instead of Unrelenting Force to snuff out the First Flame in the context of the animation.
    Also, theoretically, Dragonrend Shout could put away the Chosen Undead's immortality, but that's speculation on my part

    • @Brandon34300
      @Brandon34300 Год назад +11

      An interesting thought there at the end, would love to see what someone very knowledgeable about both games lores would have to say about that.
      Dragonrend has the ability to make the immortal dragons experience the concept of morality. Obviously we only ever see it work on dragons in Skyrim, but is that because it *only* works on dragons, or is it because it works on any “immortal” being, and dragons are simply the only eligible immortal creatures we come across in Skyrim.
      That’s a really interesting question to contemplate, could definitely see it being argued for both ways. I personally feel like it wouldn’t work, and the shout would only work on dragons since it was specifically designed for dragons, but that’s just a gut feeling on my part. I 100% see the argument that it should also be able to work on other immortal beings though.

      @Brandon34300 Год назад +4

      @@galahadwolf5818 the brief shout description in game does mention dragons, and the ancient Nordic heroes made the shout with Alduin and other dragons in mind, but I don’t think any of that really confirms it wouldn’t be able to work on other immortals that aren’t dragons.
      In theory if it can make the immortal dov experience mortality, and become susceptible to it, why would it not work on any immortal being? All the other shouts work on every creature and character in the game, and dragons are the only immortal enemies you face, so it makes sense we only see dragonrend work on them… I just keep going back and forth on it and don’t know what to make of it now 😂 there’s a strong argument for both sides, might have to look it up later and see if anyone more into the lore has already posted about whether or not dragonrend would work on anything other than dragons.

    Because both characters are basically players self inserts in both games, their true powers are kinda hard to but in a scale that makes sense. I'd say that the Dragonborn is the more powerfull, as thu'um can get really powerfull in the lore in ways that is not even shown in the games, where as the Chosen Undead doesn't have any superpowers, aside from the inability to stay dead and the sheer stubbornnes to try again. Whether or not bend will shout is capable of breaking that stubbornnes is debatable (most likely it can), but that shout is not used in this fight and thats probably for the best.
    While Dragonborn has been born with a soul of a dragon, that doesn't make him any less human and mortal. If you stab DB hard enough he will die, just like you and me. Sure he can heal from wounds, but that takes time. The Chosen undead is most likely able to ignore pain better and be somewhat tankier because of that, but even CU is still human. Because CU can respawn he could possibly just tire and wear BD down slowly and then kill him.
    One thing that really bothers me in this fight is, how Dragonborn is able to survive the linking of the first flame. There is no way that BD can facetank dragons flame in the lore, like you can in the game. The Fire linking causes a massive firestorm, like you saw in the video and that fire is capable of melting stone and last i checked humans have a lower melting point than stone. Dragonborn would basically become Sarah Connor in that Terminator 2 nuke scene as a result.
    With Fire linking this fight would be a draw and thats if you don't count the CU becoming something of a proto soul of cinder as surviving, which i don't, because CU goes hollow a the result of that.

      i know it is old but a few things to correct
      1. DB has the soul of a dragon meaning his soul is immortal unless a dragon absorbs it only the physical body is mortal.
      2. DB could easily tank the linking of fire with multiple ways to achieve that:
      1. The skill in restoration allows one to come back to live (once a day i believe)
      2. Aetherium magic where one is basically complete invincible for a minute or two
      3. Skyrim has no level cap meaning a "maxed out" DB could potentially have infinite Health, Magicka, Stamina and Carry weight.

      It's adorable you think there isn't a way for Dragonborn to tank the fire damage. This fight was never even close. Maybe do some lore reading and you'll see why the excluded so much of the Dragonborn's lore to make this fight even remotely "fair."

    • @keifujitora6587
      @keifujitora6587 10 месяцев назад

      Err, Dragonborn can easily absorb fire damage. There are multiple ways to do that, but the most common are these 2
      1. Magic resist (85% of any magic damage is negated)
      2. Magic absorb (this can reach 100% if the Dragonborn is a vampire and has the appropriate perks)
      If we go by the latter, the Dragonborn can literally just stand there and absorb flames, lightning, ice, wind, any kind of elemental attack.

    There is one other reason Dovahkiin takes this win: Skyrim is the story of how one person survived against all odds, learned their true nature as a demi-god, and rose to the challenge of defeating an enemy who threatened all existence now and forever. Dark Souls is the story of how one person accomplished incredible feats only to learn that they could only keep the cycle going or let it end. So thematically, the Chosen Undead was always going to lose.

    this fight had so many clever moments.
    my favorite is the dragonborn realizing the vow of silence is over when the chosen undead can make sound and he used that moment of pride as an opening to turn it against the chosen undead.
    the chosen undead linking the first flame is also clever and flavorful to the lore. Remember that when Gwyn linked the first flame he incinerated the black knights that followed him. the Chosen Undead was attempting to do that again here by trying to nuke the dragonborn as a last resort.
    and the dragonborn respond was perfect. The dragon shout is a reality bending power, when two dragons fight one another, they are debating on who is correct. To dragon, power is truth, those who are stronger are right and therefore their truth becomes reality in a literal sense. The dragonborn using unrelenting force is him enforcing his will upon reality, he's defying the reality of the flame hurting him. Since the dragonborn defeated Alduin, an entity on par if not greater than the first flame, his will is stronger than the flame and he snuffed it out."
    And my response to it was
    "Dragonborn really said no you to the first flame and won"
    Also Fireborn absolutely slaps. Great song by Brandon

    Something that also tips the battle in favor of the Dragonborn that is completely left out are Enchanting and Alchemy. As they stated, Dovahkin has all stats maxed out, meaning both skill trees are complete. But even without the all skills, Alchemy and Enchanting can be used in conjunction, by creating a potion of enchantment, which is used to create an enchantment of potion making, to create a potion of enchantment, et cetera ad infinitum to eventually create potions and enchantments that literally break the game. For more on how this works exactly, see the Spiffing Brit's video on beating Skyrim with just a fork.
    So to put this into lore context- The Dragonborn can become so powerful, he can end the multiple Infinity-devouring Aldouin with a single attack from a simple dining utensil.

    I mean, the thing that keeps getting me about this fight was some small yet noticeable factors that COULD potentially change the outcome
    1: The whole reason the Chosen Undead WAS the chosen one in the first place, was the resilience to refuse to go hollow, and not only that, but the whole point of Dark Souls and the Chosen Undead in general, is to overcome the impossible odds placed in front of them, so it feels possible for them to win
    2: In Skyrim, the Dragonborn can always die from…damn, ANYTHING! Fall damage, poison, eaten by dragons, EVEN A BASIC BANDIT CAN KILL THEM, and that’s not even just looking from gameplay since there’s a quest where you straight up get poisoned and have to be saved by someone else, so it just feels unlikely that the Dragonborn can avoid the Chosen Undead’s options forever
    Still, I agree that more often than not, the Chosen Undead would lose, but the points above were just things I thought of
    I’m glad they chose the Chosen Undead for this battle, because if they’d chosen the Ashen One from DS3, it wouldn’t ever end since the Ashen One canonically CAN’T GO HOLLOW

    • @TheFirstDragonbornMiraak
      @TheFirstDragonbornMiraak 5 месяцев назад

      To be fair, if we went by game quests then an early game Dragonborn could scale close to half the power of a Daedric Prince (like Clavicus Vile) who are at least Infinite Dimensional beings. Going by game yes fall damage, regular dragons, and bandits could be very threatening... all this wouldn't apply if using lore.
      You could argue that it wasn't a normal poison especially considering you could be a vampire (which are resistant to possibly immune to poison) and obviously it would still work on you... or Nocturnal (another Daedric Prince) simply influenced luck so the poison arrow would work. Another point could be made that this can happen even before becoming Dragonborn. Obviously things would be different if we used lore/endgame Dragonborn.
      The battle would still end no matter if it was Chosen Undead, Bearer of the Curse, or Ashen One.

Soul Steal is pointless against the chosen undead long term, Dragonborn functioning on one life the entire battle proves him the more resilient, but the chosen undeads tenacity seemingly wins - reasonable for the soul of dark souls players as a collective. I'm a skyrim fan, but objectively the chosen undeads 'training and variety of opponents' won out. The dragonborn's most iconic weapon is only practiced by: the enemy, a sect of pacifist monks, and a couple iconic characters like Ulfric and the Septims.

    I think scaling these heroes up to these cosmic things is irrational and needing justification. This us not the only battle that employs this scaling, but the criticism remains the same. It’s obvious that both of these heroes are significantly more mundane than what they’re contending with. Alduin in particular went down with a simple and straightforward fight despite his power. What are we supposed to believe? a) The Dragonborn is so powerful that he “escaped” execution but dealt with a Goku level threat? or b) Alduin goes down pretty easily despite all the time-related power, and a simple hero was all that was ever needed.
    edit: by simple hero, I mean typical fantasy hero. Such heroes tend to have superhuman abilities to a small degree.
    Dark Souls faces a similar problem with a better explanation. the opponents you face are all greatly diminished to the extent that a mere hero can beat them. Alduin needed something like this to make better sense if his contradictory power.
    The “blowing away” of a cosmic force makes no sense either. Charging the First Flame with the original souls or extinguishing it with the Dark Soul are both too abstract to reduce to a mere physical event comparable to tending to a real fire of any scale.
    In short, sheer power is hopeless against someone who never stays dead, no matter the margin. The Dragonborn is no Superman either. Mundane threats have provably threatened his life across the game. The “lore” cannot take precedence so long as it contradicts the grounded and mundane scale depicted in actual game. Alduin is clearly more fragile than his power would suggest, and the Dragonborn clearly only as powerful as the feat demands.

    Ah yeah as expected. And these guys didn't even use the full power of the Dragonborn. The representation of the last dragonborn in Skyrim was a poor example of the Dragonborn's power, for gameplay purposes. In actuality, the Last Dragonborn's power is based on sheer will. For example, if the Dragonborn wills it, The most popular Fus Ro Dah/Unrelenting Force shout could be powerful enough to shatter the world of Nirn itself, but in the game the Dragonborn is unaware they can get that powerful.
    Miraak, The first Dragonborn (the guy you fight at the end of the dragonborn dlc), is further along discovering just how powerful a dragonborn can get, with the help of Hermaeus Mora (Daedric Prince of forbidden knowledge) (example: him splitting the Island of Solstiem from Skyrim as they referenced in the battle). But the point is, the Dragonborn's power can go way further beyond that based on sheer willpower and the knowledge of knowing that they can. Also, add to the fact that mortals can create all new shouts (this is how the Dragonrend shout was created, the shout that forces Dragons to land/experience mortality), so the Dragonborn could in theory create all new shouts that do crazy things, its up to their imagination and willpower.

    The Chosen Undead may be strong, but they have never fought anyone like the Dragonborn before. Even Gwyn in his prime would pale in comparison to the Dragonborn. Gwyn's most noteworthy feats would be related to killing dragons....something the Dragonborn is uniquely gifted at doing. The power scaling in this fight was pretty unbalanced. It would likely have been a closer match to pit the Dragonborn against the Ashen One or the Soul of Cinder from DS3 instead, and even then the Dragonborn most likely would have won.
    The Chosen Undead kinda relies on the fact that when they die, they will simply resurrect at the most recent bonfire they'd rested at. The Dragonborn is mortal and doesn't have that luxury, and so they would be far more intent on surviving the fight than the Chosen Undead. Not to mention the fact that in the world of Dark Souls, Undead can eventually go "Hollow", which results in them losing their minds and just becoming mindless savages that attack anyone they see on sight.
    The Dragonborn also has a far more varied and flexible arsenal. Stealth, Magic, head-on combat, Shouts, etc. The Chosen Undead on the other hand doesn't really use "stealth" per se, they just face each threat head-on. And Stealth in Elder Scrolls can be downright silly, as you could literally shoot someone square in the face with an arrow and then (if they survived) break line of sight, and they would give up on looking for you within seconds, despite having an arrow literally sticking out of their face like a morbid cosplay of a unicorn.
    Plus, had they wanted to do so, the Dragonborn had more than just Odahviing that he could have called for help. He could feasibly have called on Durnehviir as well, and unlike Odahviing, Durnehviir is pretty much the equivalent of an undead dragon, as he is the only dragon to be defeated by the Dragonborn and still resurrect. And Durnehviir is absolutely more powerful than Odahviing by a very large margin, as Durnehviir himself has stated that until his fight with the Dragonborn, he had never once been defeated in battle (hence why Durnehviir refers to the Dragonborn as "Qahnariin", which means "Vanquisher" in the dragon tongue, as a sign of respect). Durnehviir alone most likely would have been sufficient to defeat the Chosen Undead even without the Dragonborn's help.

    Tbh the shitty graphics of Skyrim doesn't do it justice to how strong the characters are. Basically the final battle it's just a random barbarian vs a dragon.

    There’s actually an unspoken rule among the fandom. Never choose someone just based on one good move.
    Sure Chosen Undead’s ability to temporarily silence magic is just one good move but it still wouldn’t help him win due to being slower and weaker

    1. The fact that the Dragonborn basically made the Chosen Undead ragequit is really fitting
    2. The fact that the Dragonborn didn't use Dragon Aspect , which enhances *everything* for them, shows that the fight probably was never that close.

      This is the problem with making 2 RPGs fight against each other. Cause only the player can choose how strong their characters are. Lore wise Chosen Undead has ALOT of limitations while Dragonborn is literally a God. Makes no sense putting them both together other to create Fandom wars.

      @@luderezeusnah, the outcome is accurate. The Dragonborn's level of strength, despite not being reflected as much in-game, is practically world ending. Their shouts alone, at full power, could shake the whole continent of Tamriel and probably beyond.

    End of this battle is not accurate, bcoz in dark souls 3 final boss is chosen undead(and souls of other people), who linked the fire. And also according to lore of scrolls - all that do main characters is just main quest and dlcs main quests, so with none of guild questline and daedric artifacts his/her raw power is not so destructive. I think dragonborn cannot win this fight, because chosen undead litteraly unstopable, doesnt matter how hard dragonborn will kill it, chosen undead will keep coming back even if it become hollow, it will keep returning

    • @TheFirstDragonbornMiraak
      @TheFirstDragonbornMiraak 5 месяцев назад

      Even if we did main quest only Dragonborn... he still is way too much for Chosen Undead simply due to beating Alduin who scales far above the Infinite Dimensional Daedric Princes.
      Miraak casually beats the Dragonborn in their first encounter (despite beating Alduin) and Miraak still had Dragon Aspect which made him more powerful. In their final battle, the Dragonborn would defeat Miraak who would completey recover from damage as well as getting even more powerful due to absorbing Dragon Souls (he does this 3 times). The Dragonborn absorbs Miraak's soul (including the Dragon Souls he had absorbed) obviously making him far more powerful than he was during the fight against Miraak.
      So... as a massive lowball since I'm only using main quests (and not diving too deep into the lore), the Dragonborn would reach Outerversal levels of power and immeasurable speed.
      Also the Dragonborn won the fight by extinguishing the First Flame... so Chosen Undead wouldn't be able to come back (especially considering the fact that he sacrificed himself to link it).
