Biggest complaint about that car is the weak engine.
The car was designed around driving dynamics (fun to drive), it was never intended to win races.
You did fine Dave. These are real numbers. It gives a realistic performance of what to expect in the real world without destroying the drivetrain
Have to drop that clutch at about 4k and shift at redline.
This car WANTS YOU to shift at 7k, MAN!
You shift at the HP peak, so you land at the torque peak
You are shifting too soon. Try taking it to redline. That will really help your time. Redline is 7400rpm. On all the test I have watched you do you shift too early. The FRS has max power above 6000rpm.

TFL pulled a 7.8 second 0-60 with driver and passenger in Colorado which is 3000 ft+. Don't know what the problem is here.

@@anythingbenz4005 as a matter of fact some people got stock GT86 to hit 60 in 6 flat.
Tho only ones after 2017 can achieve it stock since they put shorter gears.
Anything before and you looking between 6.5 and 7 if you know what you are doing.

It's not you Dave it's the engine. 151 pound feet of torque can only do so much. Plus the car and engine might be new and need some miles to break in.

I am surprised at the slow 0-60 times. On the other hand, today I blew the doors off an FRS that was clearly racing me so he could jump me to make a right hand turn. On was at right at light, he was on left. My car, Veloster Turbo paddle shifters. My car more torque, 195 pound feet. Drop in K&N filter only mod. I'll be selling it. Recently ordered a 2015 WRX! Thanks for the great videos! I am a subscriber.
The veloster isn't meant for drag racing either it's front wheel drive. Toyota/Subaru could've made this a faster car. It's disappointing

It's not a very fast car off the line. If it has a close ratio gearbox, you need to get out of first gear as soon as you can, and don't stay too long on the second gear either. Have fun, cheers :)

torque peaks at 7k rpm shifting way to early is the problem.
He is bringing the clutch up to slow. He needs to side step it and I don't think he Is revving it out enough.

I thought you you did good! Who would have thought your first one would be your best. Maybe wheel spin is the trick because that run had the most wheel spin. I really like this car. It's more about handling and going through the corners faster with a controllable drift. Drifting is so unpredictable on the wrong surface. I know the car is capable on a racetrack but one an average road trying to drift would be difficult.

@@mojojoji5493 yup, and with some small aftermarket changes (like getting rid of that horrible factory tune and throwing on a new exhaust and putting on better suspension and tires than off a damn prius like the manufacturers did) you can easily hit somewhere in the mid 200 hp wise and take off. I managed to get my 0-60 down somewhere in the late 4s.

Nothing wrong on your part, driving was good. Only thing, what is the redline? Heard you say shifting at 6k rpm on most then on the last one 7k rpm. Car is just crap, low on torque, I see you have shift into 3rd gear to reach 60mph. Every shift it's a loss.

I don't like how much credit this car has received. Every time I see anything on the frs or brz on how amazing and fantastic this car is any compare it to much more expensive cars than what they should. Because of this hype I do not like this car. It makes 29 more hp than my 08 tiburon. I'm not saying my car in anyway is fast but people need to quit comparing this car a class or two up. I do believe people saying this is a fun car to have but I will never get one.

The FR-S engine has very low torque, launching requires reving the shit out of it off the line and quick shifts at redline. Quick shifting is the point to emphasize, work on your shift speeds and your 0-60 times will improve...

Dave, it's not you it's the car. You might be able to get a sub 8 second time with more practice but with that engine in there...well...let's just say you actually did pretty good.

I don't think you're the problem Dave. The car isn't all that fast period. When I test drove it I thought it was outstanding fun even though it was slow. I also thought the stick shift was awful especially when compared to the stick in the civic Si.
