Higher torque means faster take off in drag races...the FR-S has less of it and the tC has obviously more of it. So many bitter/pissed/annoyed/pwned comments, hahah!
I guess you would rather drive a girls car hahaha. That's your choice. But there is a lot more aftermarket support for a FR-S. Simple turbo or supercharge it and you're normally right around 300 whp sometimes over and that's on a conservative tune. I know a few people with the fr-s / brz and every single one of them love it. I would spend the extra loot on the fr-s and extra to get brz. Why? because it's a better car and not a girls car haha.
As a Volkswagen CC owner it is gratifying to see that your lap time in the FR-S is no better than what you guys got out of a CC when you lap tested it. I love my CC.
Andreas Lie not necessarily true! Just because it boasted as a driver's car doesn't mean it truly is. I have driven on tracks before and the most fun I've had were in cars of 260hp or more. AWD and RWD. Those cars had monster torque with enough power to hunt down other cars on the track. Simply taking the FR-S on a track isn't the full focus of the fun, it's taking it on the track and hunting down other cars passing to truly get the feeling of a real racer.
***** exactly! I drove an MX 5 with a full suspension set up, with catback exhaust and some light weight Mazdaspeed goodies and it was Boring!!! I pushed that little car to the limit, and untuned it was Boring. Yet I drove my brother in laws tuned 350Z Nismo and had a blast on the track. It kept begging me for more and I gave it all I could. I was very confident in the car and it's potential and I felt like a true racer on the track. I'll be trying out a Hyundai Genises Coupe on the next track visit with my friends and family. It's been boosted and has a host of other performance goodies on it.
supersayin1 If it was boring it means you didn't push it hard enough. A 350/370Z has more power, but will not take corners or provide the same level of driver feedback when compared to the MX5.
Dont be fooled by the results of this test, official records clearly indicate that the tC is slower than the fr-s for 0-60. Bad gear shifting from fr-s driver skewed actual results. If you dont believe me, do some research and you'll find the tC doing 6.8 sec when properly driven in manual and the fr-s 6.1 when properly driven.
I own a 2015 scion tc I put TRD lowering springs and racing wheels and tires... I've spanked FR-S cars easy just because of the tq is better... The fact is both cars look great and are fun to drive with a lot of options available and room to grow... my next upgrades are TRD Headers and exhaust.... then turbo and intercooler +tune and finally videos
The springs cost 350.00 total and I had the dealership put mine on... it gives a noticeable change in stance and in handling. I have some wide rims and tires and no clearance issues so bumps aren't a problem for me

I own a 2012 tC and I recently rented a camry, they are completely different on so many levels. Just because it shares the same platform and saying you know that doesn't make you sound very knowledgeable about cars. The tC is very heavily designed the Camry isnt it's pretty weak in cimparison
Same guy, just bought an FRS and I have to say it's waaaay more fun than the tC. The tC isn't shit compared to the FRS, I will say that the tC is a little beast and handles well. But the tC doesn't have rear wheel drive or a subaru boxer engine and I have way more fun in a FRS than my tC. The tC is fun and a lot cheaper I'd recommend a tC over it's competitors in that price range.

If it was a the same for both models then yes it could be determined that brand X pulls Brand Z in that model.
+Tanner M. Bro I'm all about that I own a 2011 scion TC and I know how much torque they have, the FRS is more of a high rpm track car which is is great at. The FRS is a great concept but many insiders feel Subaru should have added more power with a turbo. Personally I feel Subaru didn't want to undercut its WRX sales.
+Eric Noa Yes I agree there, the TC's engine is balanced but has enough power to take a FR-S. I would still want to have an FR-S for my ride though over a TC any day.
+buildmorefarms100 True tc has more power. From a tuners perspective the layout for a Fr-s imo would be best. Any car built right can have decent power. I would look more at the platform rear wheel drive vs front wheel more so.
The FRS needs a driver mod. I pull on TC's at the track almost every time with the exception of boosted TC's. The FRS limits power a lot unless all controls are turned off. Horrible launch in this video. The FRS weighs 2700 lbs. 20 lbs of torque with the added weight of the TC beating the FRS simply doesn't add up.
Another thing to consider here, most drag racers know that an automatic is more consistant (if not always faster) than a manual, again putting the tC at an advantage (a manual is quicker in these cars if you look at magazine test, but again-- consistency by helping eliminate driver error helps here). And indeed, being a mile from sea level is bad for any N/A car, especially one considered so gutless-- buy hey, the hp/torque difference is still less than the S2000! The nice thing about the tC against the Si and GTi is it is what it is-- there is no "base" model with less power (albeit the bones are based on an economy car outside the U.S., but that's another story).
Crazy to think the automatic tC is quicker than the manual FR-S (which is geared like a sports car), because the manual tC is a bit quicker than the automatic. Undersquare engine vs oversquare engine on short distance, but still, the FR-S revs higher, and it actually has a better torque to weight ratio even tho it's 20lb-ft less, not to mention the 30hp more and RWD on 200lbs less.
Everyone, the drag experiment they did is terrible. My fiance and I own a 2014 Scion tC 6-speed manual for our daily and my fiance personally owns a 2017 Toyota 86 6-speed manual. We raced them both stock and I can tell you right now that they are way closer than this crap. The torque on the tC takes the 86/frs/brz up until about 65 mph, give or take a few mph, and then the 86/frs/brz shines with its high end power and starts walking away after that. I thought I would fill all of you in to clear some things up since both my fiance and I own the manual versions of these cars.
The TC isn't a sports car it's a hatchback coupe that just happens to have some kick to it, which is why I love it so much. It's like a sports car except this one has a comfortable roomy interior, backseats that are actually usuable, hatchback trunk to fit large items (especially when you fold the seats down), good looks, great reliability, and great gas mileage. Its no typical camaro/mustang/challenger but its alot more convenient. Not only will you enjoy it but so will the bitches in the backseat, plus its fun to drive
And this is still with the TC's massively detuned ecu. Detuned power, detuned suspension, just to let the frs win in some categories, or at least not look so bad.
I own a 2015 scion Tc and I guarantee you it will beat a stock frs in the quarter mile. I have raced a BRZ & FRS in my tC and have won both times. In case for the FRS to stand a chance it would need a perfect launch with perfect gear timing. But even then, the odds are against it.
I'm not too surprised, as I know tC1's and tC2's mufflers are more aggressive than most Toyota products... honestly I think it sounded a bit better than the FR-S. hell, there's actually some pop behind it.
I don't understand why Toyota doesn't put more HP and torque in the FRS. I mean they only have to put mid 200 range in HP and torque and this car would be a different animal. It's not a cheap car in price I don't get it.
Isn't the frs known for its handling and ease of use? It's known for its drifting qualities. Why are people comparing their cars speed and hp with it? It's obviously not a drag car.
calls a tc a camry, dude it has a 2arfe engine not the 2azfe engine which is shared thru majority of Toyota cars, the 2ar has about the same tq at the crank like the frs, frs just has a few more ponies
I know you guys are not drag racers but what a horrible launch for the FRS. You have to turn off all the electronics and do a 4600 rpm clutch drop. Even a mile high the FRS will pull on the TC when in its power-band. From a dead stop with the traction control on it does not stand a chance. It will bog down off the line and at 4000 rpm. Torque gets you moving. HP and light weight will win out in the end.
It's so sad that the frs is so weak in power and torque cuz to me it's such a sexy car. I would love to own one but the numbers that it puts out is what holds me back :/ not worth trading my 350z
The tC is a better car than it gets credit for. I like both the tC and the FR-S. Both cars have their place and btw the tC has been around nine years longer than the FR-S.
So does a Camry :p But come on, the Toyota V6 is in a totally different league to the 2.5L. I'll attest that the 2.5L is better in sound and punch versus the 2.5L (you hear enough floored and you can hear a difference), the 2.5L doesn't scare the competitors. That V6, however, puts up a damned good fight against cars with 20-40hp more.
buildmorefarms100 That's still not a Camry engine. It was a 2ZZ-GE which was engineered by Yahmaha with VVTL-i, and had 180hp/130ftlb in Toyota Celica GTS/Matrix XRS guise, and 170/127ftlb (with fatter torque curve) in the Corolla XRS (different ECU, which a lot of Corolla owners swap out to get the power back). My Echo uses the same oil filter as the 2ZZ, actually... either it's under-engineered for the 2ZZ-GE, or over-engineered for the 1NZ-FE :p
I don't care how quick the tC is in a drag race-- I know it gives the FR-S a good run for its money there. That doesn't make it a sports car like an FR-S is. Sport compact, yes, but not a sports car... and you're still far better off going with a Civic Si, GTi, etc. By saying the tC is more logical of a buy than the FR-S-- yes, it is. But that's where the difference between a hot-hatch/sport compact and a devoted sports car comes in.
Yeap, reason I got me the TC. I drove from El Paso, TX to Ft Eustis, VA. Trust me, I love the TC. All my luggage fit perfectly, and with the back seats down, I was able to take a nap, too. Hehehe
Like Roman said, the FR-S REALLY needs a turbo option. I don't know why they haven't bothered making one yet, but it really, really needs one. But at least my car won the drag race
frs or tc I don't know what to get I like both but I travel a lot so id go with a tc has more room for luggage and I like a quick car but what is the point when 1 traffic and 2 cops yeah the frs is nice but I don't need 200 hp plus the back seat is useless if I diddent travel so much id say frs cause its neat and why not ive got friends with each car so ive been able to drive them both which car you choose is what you prefer im not trashing any cars here im looking at the moment for a car im asking what would be a good buy
BS. I own an Fr-s and raced a Tc that year and took him 3 times back to back. Looked like the Frs drive pre-loaded his drive train, but didn't turn on traction control completely.
maybe a lil more specificity wold make your comment sound like an interesting race. Otherwise, all you've done is make two vague references, that manifested themselves together, in the form of one nonsensical sentence.
Anyone can tell you which is the better sports car. That's an elementary question. A better one is, which is the better car at being what it's intended to be? The FRS is a letdown in done ways and the TC had it's own unique flavor. A sports car it's NOT though.
Lol that 97 ram must have like 400 horse then cuz I would smoke you in my 2016 tc.. Smoked my buddies 5.9 2001 ram 2500 hemi the other night by an eighth of a mile... Pretty sure your little sheep wagon couldnt keep up
Imagine if the tc wasn't an automatic. My buddy and I were memeing around in his comfort line Jetta with a stick and smoked an auto v6 challenger. 180tq and 145hp with a stick, vs 190tq and 178hp with an auto
@@berettaxd7566 yeah my tc is manual. First gear rips hard. 60kmh to redline in like 2 seconds. Really peppy for a 4 cylinder. Less than 7 seconds to 100kmh

Its no typical camaro/mustang/challenger but its alot more convenient. Not only will you enjoy it but so will the bitches in the backseat, plus its fun to drive
ToyotaBuru stated they were going to work on giving the FR-S-BRZ more ponies but it looks like I'll have to wait a bit longer.
You're not wrong about that buddy. Its 2021 now and they definitely are adding slightly more power to the platform.
Pretty sure the TC is not a sports car but is just a tryhard hatchback
Conner Hendrick exactly what I’m saying
It's not a cheap car in price I don't get it.
i dont get it either it could be more fun
mark ocampo hunt down an Evo VIII.
They should of put a 2.5L Boxer instead of the 2.0L for at least more torque & some hp
Automatic v automatic would be more of a test, FR-S having around a 6-6.2 ish 0-60 and T-C having around a 7.4-7.6 0-60
next time get two cars with the same transmissions.
I got a 2006 scion tc for 2000$ in 2017 and it still runs great in 2021
Isn't the frs known for its handling and ease of use? It's known for its drifting qualities. Why are people comparing their cars speed and hp with it? It's obviously not a drag car.
Is that how the stock exhaust sounds?
Still would rather buy the fr-s because it handles better and looks better
calls a tc a camry, dude it has a 2arfe engine not the 2azfe engine which is shared thru majority of Toyota cars, the 2ar has about the same tq at the crank like the frs, frs just has a few more ponies
Get rid of that auto tC bro, cause the manuals are a lot faster!
I will stick with the scion tc...some heathers, low it,light rims, flow master exhaust thats about it
A couple Heather's sounds like a good time 😏
you have any videos on the flowmaster exhaust? I’m trying to see if i should do a magnaflow straight through muffler or a flowmaster muffler
I never thought little girls love drag racing...i like the FRS but its the tC FTW!
So the 0-60 stats are false online then. The FRS with the 6 speed is supposed to throw out a 6.5 second 0-60 and the automatic Tc a 7.4 0-60.
There is no replacement for displacement...the 2.5 whooped up on the 2.0.
Finally! Someone in the comments that shows a little engine knowledge!
I believe it, I drive a tc trd and was bumper to bumper with my friends 2017 wrx
Austin mcdonald damn really? What all do you have done to it?
It's so sad that the frs is so weak in power and torque cuz to me it's such a sexy car. I would love to own one but the numbers that it puts out is what holds me back :/ not worth trading my 350z
The tC is a better car than it gets credit for. I like both the tC and the FR-S. Both cars have their place and btw the tC has been around nine years longer than the FR-S.
the Lotus Evora has a Camry engine
So does a Camry :p
But come on, the Toyota V6 is in a totally different league to the 2.5L. I'll attest that the 2.5L is better in sound and punch versus the 2.5L (you hear enough floored and you can hear a difference), the 2.5L doesn't scare the competitors. That V6, however, puts up a damned good fight against cars with 20-40hp more.
Harvey Duncan Lotus used to use a 1.8 liter 4 cyl Toyota engine in the Elise Harvey
buildmorefarms100
That's still not a Camry engine.
Good videos keep it up!
Haha alright Ken block 😂
Yeap, reason I got me the TC. I drove from El Paso, TX to Ft Eustis, VA. Trust me, I love the TC. All my luggage fit perfectly, and with the back seats down, I was able to take a nap, too. Hehehe
that roast session they had 😂😂😂
"Nice Subaru you got there." Damm
whaat ? that was a drag race ?
this part 1 should have been 1 minute or less
Like Roman said, the FR-S REALLY needs a turbo option. I don't know why they haven't bothered making one yet, but it really, really needs one.
But at least my car won the drag race
Does anyone really take any Scion on the track?
People say it doesnt need a turbo because of what kind of car it is, it is built to be a fun car, not the fastest car, but a turbo would be nice
what was the 0 to 60 on the tC a mile above sea level, automatic trans?
Learned one thing, drivers do matter. Damn trolls. My grandma would have a better start off with that FR-S.
frs or tc I don't know what to get I like both but I travel a lot so id go with a tc has more room for luggage and I like a quick car but what is the point when 1 traffic and 2 cops yeah the frs is nice but I don't need 200 hp plus the back seat is useless if I diddent travel so much id say frs cause its neat and why not ive got friends with each car so ive been able to drive them both which car you choose is what you prefer im not trashing any cars here im looking at the moment for a car im asking what would be a good buy
Hi guys i just brought. 2008 tc but im wondering if its a good car and would like a professional opinion thanks
I challenge your FR-S against my 09 tC it is a five speed manual and for now is completely stock
This is the most interesting video about FRS
BS. I own an Fr-s and raced a Tc that year and took him 3 times back to back. Looked like the Frs drive pre-loaded his drive train, but didn't turn on traction control completely.
why do people keep doing drag races on frs?
it's not made for drag racing
Video starts at 3:05 .
I find it sad that these cars have performance figures on par with sport compacts from the early 2000s.
scion with a camry engine vs a toyota with a subaru engine hmmm
maybe a lil more specificity wold make your comment sound like an interesting race. Otherwise, all you've done is make two vague references, that manifested themselves together, in the form of one nonsensical sentence.
I wonder if the race would closer at sea level.
I don't think so, they're both normally aspirated.
lfsracer79 yep your right.
why does the tc sound way cooler than the sports car?
Anyone can tell you which is the better sports car. That's an elementary question. A better one is, which is the better car at being what it's intended to be? The FRS is a letdown in done ways and the TC had it's own unique flavor. A sports car it's NOT though.
And this is why my 97 ram 2500 can keep pace with the fr-s in a drag race;I mean it's got me in the corners like nobodies business but damn
Lol that 97 ram must have like 400 horse then cuz I would smoke you in my 2016 tc.. Smoked my buddies 5.9 2001 ram 2500 hemi the other night by an eighth of a mile... Pretty sure your little sheep wagon couldnt keep up
I think it's funny because the FRS puts down the same power as a Toyota Camry Hybrid
FRS owners punching the air rn
Scion TC was sounding like a cup car somehow but they both slow af
The Prius tires they put on there are ridiculously skinny.
36 FRS owners seen this video so far
That drag race was so painful to watch.......
its not that hard to find a Manua TC, and its even easier to find an auto FRS.
Should have got the scion tc in stick
what, did you leave traction control on?? My goodness man...
Lets see a manual tc vs frs
Can u guys do something with a 2014 honda accord at imi
what is the song at 1:00
be careful you might give that squirrel a hernia
why would you test a manual vs a auto on a track
these two are in very different classes, comparing apples to oranges.
That's what we do.
Imagine if the tc wasn't an automatic. My buddy and I were memeing around in his comfort line Jetta with a stick and smoked an auto v6 challenger. 180tq and 145hp with a stick, vs 190tq and 178hp with an auto
Manual is standard for Tc
@@berettaxd7566 yeah my tc is manual. First gear rips hard. 60kmh to redline in like 2 seconds. Really peppy for a 4 cylinder. Less than 7 seconds to 100kmh
The scion tc has the bigger guy and full tank of gas
Tc has similar power and less drivetrain loss bc FWD
Im diggin the Godzilla shirt :)
ME TOOO!!!
tC beats a fucking FR-S? Now I know that car is all looks and here I was ready to get an FR-S. Holy shit that's really disappointing.
I wouldn't buy either car even if it was 50% off. Why would you like getting smoked by a mini van
Woman Rights h
I’d rather have the tC for the reliability
Great comparison!! !
