This was such a great discussion. An interesting point you make is about the prejudices against locs. I always call microlocs/sisterlocks “corporate locs” because they don’t stand out in a corporate setting. Whenever someone says they want to return to relaxers I always suggest microlocs because they give you styling versatility of a relaxer and very low maintenance.
I was going to get sisterlocks but 7 years ago it was going to be 1k and there was only like one loctician in my area. If not I would have had to travel. My other issue was I read /watched a lot of sisterlock horror stories. Sisterlocks is very very secretive with their techniques so you don’t know if they are making mistakes, which would mean you don’t have the branded sisterlocks you paid for. So I did it myself. It took me three weeks. It takes five days to retighten because my arms hurt and my scalp gets sore, but free 99 sure feels fine.

    • @antwaunanderson9549
      @antwaunanderson9549 11 месяцев назад +1

If your scalp is sore they are too tight, which can lead to thinning. Be careful how tight you're pulling them, because unlike braids, you cannot take them out if it's too tight.

I'm not into sister or micro-locs.. I will say Lena's are the best I have ever seen. I recently started traditional locks but I will say your channel needs more viewers. Watched a couple and they are way better than any others that have popped up in my feed! Learned the most. Good stuff!

So sister locks is a branded locking technique that is uses the interlock method and a particular parting grid ? & Microlocs can be parted in any pattern and started in a multiply of ways.

Sisterlocks have 8 different locking patterns. Interlocking has 2 locking patterns: 4 point (north-east-south-west) 3 point (north-east-south-east).

My consultant charges $150 more for Sisterlocks than micro locks. It doesn’t make sense to me to pay for the brand name or grid because neither holds any value to me. My consultant was upfront that there’s no appreciable difference. My install is 020122.
Part of my hesitation in getting locs was the permanence but really permanent is only as long as I want it to be. I don’t let price dictate how often I do or don’t change my hairstyle. And I’ll still have flexibility of styling like with loose hair. When I get bored, or get tired of the maintenance, I’ll cut them off and start over with something else. It’s only hair to me.

You can still style your hair anyway with locs depending on style and length of locs. Im about to do my 3rd and last set soon! New set of Micros.

This session was so helpful, I have just installed sister locs (10.7.2022) but this has provided much need education in how I can maintain my locs. I feel so happy to be part of a community. I got mine done in Ghana, Africa so it is much cheaper but I'm moving back to the UK so will have to search for a trustworthy locticiana for re twisting. I've heard horror stories so doing my research but my first re teist will be done by my installer

I combed out thicker interlocked locs. I ended up with a broken thin mess. Chopped it all of after 1 month. No use wasting time and energy combing them out. Just cut and regrow healthy hair.

Great conversation/share ladies! Both of your locs are Beautiful & Flourishing!🥰 Never thought about how sisterlocs/microlocs may not be viewed/criticized by others like traditional/freeform locs... wow!
I'm 14mths into my microlocs journey and started with two-strand twists (393). The deciding factors for me choosing microlocs was (1) price- b/c of my hair length and density I was quoted $1400 for sisterlocs & (2) flexibility- microlocs in my opinion is less structured. It's definitely Beautiful to see such vast options in the loc community 💜

I’m 2 months into my sisterlocs journey (3 months if you include my consultation). I have sisterlocks but my professional adopted a grid that best met the natural pattern of my hair at the time. I was experiencing alopecia due to medical reasons but I had lost here and it’s been over two years so we thought it was permanent. But since I’ve had my luxe, we realize that my hair is growing back. So I really think it comes down to your Loctician and in their experience. My lactation has been doing Locs since the 90s and she is certified in sisterlocks but she is not limited by their technique.

Great discussion. I'm guilty not wanting traditional Locs bc I like versatility and the look of a wash and go. My Bestfriend's both had traditional Locs and loved there styles but they weren't for me. I coil my hair now and its grown so much and I'm leaning towards Micro Locs to make hair styling and maintenance less. Weekly washing, coiling is just getting to be too much for me. Weighing the price is a big factor. I'm in Philadelphia and the price is $800 and up, length of hair is a different price as well, consultation is separate. I'll make my decision soon bc the price is hefty and I'm the type of person who has done my own hair for decades.

I recently got micro locks. I was initially interested in sister locks. The loctictian advised against it due to the fine soft texture of my hair. I only have a little over 200 strands which is frustrating to me. I like them but do not like the look on me. Its been exactly a month today. I still do not feel confident enough to wear them out. I have been wearing a wig. I now feel like I made an ill-advised decision. I did do my research. However, there was not enough information out for fine hair. Everyone tells me to trust the process, and it will get better. But I have yet to see anyone with the scarce look that I have. So im not sure how my hair is going to achieve the look that everyone else has. Can someone reassure me that I have made a wise decision. I really like my loctician she did a great job, but im wondering if I should have decided against getting them. Should a loctician advise people not to get them if you dont have the right texture for them?

Beautiful commentary on SL and Microlocs 😊
But please be careful out here when it comes to your SL , everyone is not out here for your good on your hair periodT.
I let a girl In Hayward CA, name Kristin do my Sisterlock install- 🤦🏽‍♀️ she was awful to say the least and very unprofessional.
I went to her for a couple of more months, but my gut told me to stop going to her.
She did not know what she was doing. She did not do the Sisterlocs grid- she messed up my hair- and had the nerve to get upset because I stopped tipping her. In the meantime I was looking for a new sister Loctician ….and I actually reported her to Sisterlock foundation . I have a new lady now , in San Leandro California. She is amazing ! Some of these folks out here do not want to take care of your hair. They only want the money. And her attitude was definitely from the devil..
If you feel it in your gut, please do your research. Do not go to the first person you see! This is my second set of Sisterlocks. Soon I will be doing a channel myself regarding my Sisterlock journey. 😉 be safe out here folks when it comes to your hair!

I figured it out by going through my consultations. However, it’s important to note that sisterlocks are interlocked microlocs, and you can start microlocs in multiple ways. If you’re not DIYing you can see if your consultant does microlocs and sisterlocks and if they’ll give you different types of testers. Microlocs are also usually bigger.
