Thanks for sharing your enlightening Micro Locs POV🥰 As a 30+yrs Natural Hair Care & Self trained Traditional Loctician Salon owner & Cosmetologist from Queens NY, now based in Bloomfield, NJ, I recently became aware of Micro Locs during the beginning of the Covid pandemic via RUclips. Yes, I was familiar with SisterLocs, but had never heard of Micro Locs, I became intrigued. Your Micro Locs are BeY👸🏽Utiful💟
I have heard so many conflicting information. I was told not to use conditioner which I never followed. However I tried it last couple of weeks to wash without conditioner and left my hair feeling hard crusty couldn’t touch it or run my fingers through my hair. So back to conditioner for me.
I got medium sized braidlocs. I do love microlocs but they are too expensive to start and maintain. Yes, I could start and maintain them myself but I don't have the patience for such tiny locs. It will take forever. I got someone to start my locs and I maintain them myself through interlocing. My arms are hurting even after interlocing medium/large locs so I know I made the right choice for me.
Thanks for the video definitely gave me something to think about. I will say still way cheaper than the states. You’re looking at $500 to $1500 to start depending on thickness, length and etc. I’ve been looking for quotes to start and I have pass shoulder length so it’s a lot. Reties are like $150 to $350, this is for Georgia and Florida. I’ve decided to do it myself honestly lol
I’m so happy to help! And those prices are insane! There are so many DIY microloc channels on here that can help you. Check out Queen Eleem she did an amazing job and she did hers on her own too.
I respectfully, but wholeheartedly disagree with each of her points, and I've had my sisterlocks for 3.5 years. I had trouble finding a loctitian, so I went on the official sisterlocks website to find one. It literally gives you a list of contacts for each registered loctitian in your state. I strongly recommend getting them done, as my only regret is not getting them sooner, but you have to do what's best for you. Best of luck, whatever you choose!
I am so grateful for my baby sister!! She installed my microlocs with extensions; she offered to do them for free, because it was her first time doing them, but I gave her $350 anyway (took about 16 hours; I'd never work 16 hours for free and don't expect her to either). Your hair looks so beautiful as well as the makeup.
I'd say it depends on just how tiny your microlocks are. For traditional sized locs - no problem. When you have upwards of 350, the pool of microloctitians who are available AND skilled AND have the tools to do this is so slim as to be almost impossible.
Beautiful commentary on SL & Micro Locs😊 But please be careful out here when it comes to your SL , everyone is not out here for your good on your hair periodT. I let a girl In Hayward CA, name Kristin do my Sisterlock install- 🤦🏽♀️ she was awful to say the least and very unprofessional. I went to her for a couple of more months, but my gut told me to stop going to her. She did not know what she was doing. She did not do the Sisterlocs grid- she messed up my hair- and had the nerve to get upset because I stopped tipping her. In the meantime I was looking for a new sister Loctician ….and I actually reported her to Sisterlock foundation . I have a new lady now , in San Leandro California. She is amazing ! Some of these folks out here do not want to take care of your hair. They only want the money. And her attitude was definitely from the devil.. If you feel it in your gut, please do your research. Do not go to the first person you see! This is my second set of Sisterlocks. Soon I will be doing a channel myself regarding my Sisterlock journey. 😉 be safe out here folks when it comes to your hair!
I know that I have tried so many styles on my daughter's hair and she discovered she loves it to just be a natural afro because her hair is very very tight little spirals. Now that we are entering track season and she loves to run, we were considering microlocs as a protective style. I might try looking into something else since both our schedules are very busy and money is a bit tight. Thank you for sharing this video.
I'm so happy I could help! Microlocs could still be a great option but with less locs (perhaps around 200 locs) - that should be less expensive and less stressful to maintain 💕
@@Ifeyinwa now that she saw this video, as well as a video on how to do microlocs, she said she would prefer to just have twists since its easier to remove and she and I could do them ourselves on a weekend.

What I don’t care for is that some people are doing Microlocs much smaller than they should be. The ones in this video are more the size of sister locs. Micros should be in between locs and sister maybe half the width of a pencil.

I am considering a redo of my locks but cant stomach another $1000 I spent on my installation. I self maintain - most loctitians charge a lot however not worth much, messed up my hair
Aww thanks but why do you think their British accents are fake? They could have been raised here or lived here for a long time. I have a lot of African family and friends that have British accents and I can assure you their accent aren’t fake lol 😭 and I installed my hair with Enibraids - I’ve linked their Instagram in the description box
It’s not permanent ! I saw a great video a girl just 2 strand twisted them together and that like halved the amount. Using the 2 strand method to create a larger loc!
Does anyone have experience with postpartum shedding while having microlocs? I want to have mine installed before i have my baby but wondering if i should wait a bit to see if i get any shedding and maybe work on that first before gettin them done...?? Does it matter..🤷🏾♀️
Not a good idea to comb out the locs? But you have plenty of exemple of women Who combed their locs ans didn't get that Much damage. I love your glow. Could you please do a video on your skincare, please.
Sure and thank you!
I hv traditional locs now over 30 yrs. I interloc mine. The grid was not used for me or customers everyone head size is different when I set them.
So these are pros then. I thought you were going to discuss cons. Thank you for the advice because I was actually contemplating. Yours are beautiful.
Thanks for watching, but I did discuss cons. I hope you found it helpful!
The first con was the reason I didn't commit to my locs because i couldn't find anyone to do my reties 😭
Valid! But keep checking, new locticians pop up everyday 🥰
Beautiful commentary on SL & Micro Locs😊
But please be careful out here when it comes to your SL , everyone is not out here for your good on your hair periodT.
Thank you for sharing your experience it’s so important to hear these stories. I’m happy you were able to find a good loctician 💕
Ensure to give a shut out to the loctician that took good care of your hair!🙌🏽
i came for your beautiful locs but please what is on your eyelids? it looks mesmerising, you’re so gorgeous!
Thank you so much it's actually a lip gloss lol! I recreated the look in my Normani makeup video x
Great points..and you are so naturally beautiful and glowing! you go Naija girl. :)
Thank you so much 🤗
I know that I have tried so many styles on my daughter's hair and she discovered she loves it to just be a natural afro because her hair is very very tight little spirals.
What type of locks are best for fine texture medium density naturally pin straight long hair?
New subbie!! ☺️♥️🇳🇬 I would totally get locs if I didn’t love wearing my hair out! Lol Micro locs are so pretty!! 😍
Thank you for subbing! I hope you like to here 🫶🏾
Thank you for the information, I’m going to get mine done.
You have a great speaking voice and I love rhat you stick to topic veryeasy on the eye thanks for the clear advice on hair doses and don't about hair thanks found your channel by mistake glad that I did
Thank you so much!
I’m in Columbus, Oh which is in the States…. It will cost me $950 to install….. and that’s a steal
What I don’t care for is that some people are doing Microlocs much smaller than they should be. The ones in this video are more the size of sister locs. Micros should be in between locs and sister maybe half the width of a pencil.
Tbf if your locs are started too small, they’ll probably just need to be combined at some point. That’s what my loctician explained to me anyway
If the calculator is correct, sixty pound sterlings is worth $71.96 (USD) so 60 - 80 = $71 - $95 USD? That's a steal for a retie!
I’m learning through your comments that it is super expensive to get and maintain locs in America compared to here.
I love your makeup.. Plus you're just absolutely gorgeous.
Thank you so much!!
Hear Hear, the options are soooooo limiting and annoying. I think because the locticians know they are high in demand, they are so laid back.
It's definitely an interesting how this seems to be a issue everywhere
The skill seems hard to learn and it takes time. I am available in Newcastle tho
Thank you for your honest opinion and points of reference. I wanted to start microlocs, but I have been very apprehensive. So this vid gave me more to think about. I'm going to check out the pros vid. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Hey, your micro locs are beautiful❤ I appreciate your videos. What size are your locs?
I guess because I love in rural South that 30 mins to hours sounds normal.
They told me $350 for installation and that only covers the first 3 inches then it's $35 or more per inch afterwards.
It's so interesting to hear how the rates differ for place to place
Yay you made it to 20k !!! 💃🏽 🥳new subscriber tuning in
I’m so excited! Thank you 💕
@kendrakenshay is your twin!
She's beautiful!
Thanks for sharing your experience
Thanks for watching!
Are micro locs and micro twist the same? Can the twist lock and can they both be permanent?
My 2 nieces have micro loc there so Beautiful one of their locs are about 4 ft long
Hello Ifeyinwa, Could you please let know which company in Lagos installed your Microlocs? Also, I would appreciate any suggestion on other good company in Lagos. Thanks in advance
already linked in my description box!
Elf maintenance is really nit difficult, my only ecpense was install, and i just wen to a braider for smal braided at the base 2 strand twist to start mine
Quotes I’ve been seeing (in US-Texas) puts me at about $1300-1500 to start micro locs. 😭 I… 🥺
Woooooow how long is your hair?
I’m in the US. My install was 2100 😮
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT??? How long is your hair?
@@Ifeyinwa my hair was 5 inches and I had them installed with 8 inch human Afro kinky hair
@@Ifeyinwa AND reties are 170 for the 1st 3 hours and $80 an hour after that. And if I wait to long between I will get an over growth charge of another $80
I live in America. Can’t relate, have plenty of loctitions to choose from
Lucky!!
Great tips
You are STUNNING !
Thank you so much!
Dang $110 for that is literally dirt cheap
In the states 1200 and up 😢
For locating locticians. Is there a way to keep a list? I came from Lagos, Nigeria to Newcastle. I am available for locs
Sisterlocks has a registry but that's the only list I know about - I linked it in my description box
You are stunning❤
And yes US is so expensive smh
Thank you so much
You are a very beautiful woman! And your accent is just on point! None of that fake British accent most Africans have in UK. Can you share your Lagos salon which installed your locks? I am considering a redo of my locks but cant stomach another $1000 I spent on my installation. I self maintain - most loctitians charge a lot however not worth much, messed up my hair
Aww thanks but why do you think their British accents are fake? They could have been raised here or lived here for a long time. I have a lot of African family and friends that have British accents and I can assure you their accent aren’t fake lol 😭 and I installed my hair with Enibraids - I’ve linked their Instagram in the description box
Tbh i would just do my own hair. Saves time and money
The only reason i havent done this yet is because of how attached i am to my afro🥺
Understandable, don’t feel pressured 🫶🏾
The girls are charging 1500 up for this style. Then the retwist are 200 and up. But they are beautiful!
Thank you so much!
Thanks for be open about it
Thanks for watching!
I love your mixed accent. Didn’t notice till you said you live in the UK lol
Thank you!
@ifeyinwa what’s the name of the salon in Lagos did you get your locs done? They are asking for $3500, make I run go Naija go do am, abeg!!
Enibraids, I’ve linked them in my bio!

Your Microloc are so beautiful. They don't represent your "cons" Thanks for sharing. Anything worth have may take time/money to obtain.
Thank you lovely 💕
It’s not permanent ! I saw a great video a girl just 2 strand twisted them together and that like halved the amount. Using the 2 strand method to create a larger loc!
Hey I think you missed my point . Iwas about taking your locs out, not transforming microlocs to bigger locs.
What company did your locs in Lagos please?
Wow this woman is gorgeous
Does anyone have experience with postpartum shedding while having microlocs? I want to have mine installed before i have my baby but wondering if i should wait a bit to see if i get any shedding and maybe work on that first before gettin them done...?? Does it matter..🤷🏾♀️
My friend lost her edges due to postpartum shedding and it hasn't grown back.
Not a good idea to comb out the locs? But you have plenty of exemple of women Who combed their locs ans didn't get that Much damage. I did twice and no, i did not get any damage, shedding hair is normal, we all Shed hair, so it's not alarming to see it. I spend years doing research on the subject and talked to a lot of loctitians. I love and agree with everything else tho. Ans love the hair btw. Your crown is gorgeous
Can you recommend your locticion? I’m also in London
What is a retire? Are you just talking about interlocking? Is that what they do for sister locs
I have a retie vlog, check it out!
Please can you recommend places to get micro locks done in Lagos
I tagged my locticians in this video and I have a video on how to find locticians
Question: If we do braid our hair while in microlocs, do we have to take down our braids early for the sake of retightening. Like I usually have box braids in for 3 months before I take them down... so would that mean I'd need to take them down at the 4 to 6 week period so that I can retighten my locs?
I’ve never done this personally so I can’t advise , it might be worth asking your Loctician
Given you mentioned you live in London, do you mind if I ask which loctitian you use?
Linked in my description box 😊
How many locs do you have ?
548 :)
Can I undo my locs?
Hi, where in London do you get your hair re twisted ?
I recommend Jus U Salon in Enfield
I took donw my microlocs two months after having it in.
Oh no you didn't like them?
Reties are expensive and it was too small for ne
Which company did you use in Lagos?
Linked in bio
Are you able to undo them or are they locked in
You can comb out microlocs, look out for next weeks video I talk about that more 🥰
