    “I don’t care what anyone says about you, you’re alright” is honestly the sweetest thing. Dad being on your side AND appreciating you? Best feeling in the world.

    • @yourmomisaho
      @yourmomisaho 2 месяца назад

      Ah, I've always heard 'I don't care what THEY say about you, you're alright' -Implying that everyone is saying bad things about you, thus making the compliment backhanded.
      The way he says it sounds much sweeter- since it implies he doesn't care what anyone thinks- rather than articulating that EVERYONE says something negative about you. 😅

    Unfortunately, it took me over 30 years to understand that my dad was trying to spend time with me when he had me hold the flashlight, set up the oil pan, etc.
    Now I ask him to come over and help with some household task about once every two weeks. They are things I can absolutely handle on my own, but it's noticeable how happy my dad is pulling his toolkit out of the pickup truck and asking "where's the problem?" ♥️

      @@IsaacWassomdo it. My dad just stopped over to help me mow grass, and afterwards we had a couple beers and talked about the old days.
      The roles get reversed. His way of saying "I love you" was making you help him hold a flashlight. Now, your way of saying "I love you" is asking him to help with fixing something or help with yard work.

    😂I grew up Iowa and this was…still is my dad and I and I’m 51. My son is 18 and started to realize this is how I show my love to him. At his graduation party last summer, I gave him a firm hand shake with a side bro hug and said I didn’t think you had it in you to graduate and I’m proud of you. In his own smart and sarcastic voice he said I knew you loved me. 😂 I’m sure he will carry on the Midwest dads love for his son.

    Oh wow! This is so spot on! Grew up in Michigan and this was “the water” we swam in that we all just didn’t realize was there and took it for granted as “this is the way it is”. Parents didn’t come to my high school graduation or give me any gift but Mom said, “time to start paying rent” the next day. Guys I dated had a distant, passive, vague and shut-down way of communicating--because that is how they were taught to think and communicate. Glad for the solid values and work ethic it gave me….and glad I left.
