Having moved to southeast Michigan 6 years ago, I can confirm that watching the Lions lose is a very cherished Thanksgiving custom. We eat at 1:00 PM so the game doesn't have time to ruin everyone's dinner.

Arguing among large Midwest families is a cherished tradition. My dad came from a family of 10 children, my mother from a family of 9 children. I have 81 first cousins just on my mothers side.
We stopped having big holidays and now it’s just my mom dad and brother, we eat at 2 watch some football and everyone’s in bed by 8. Best holiday ever 😊
I never understood why my parents acted so strange at Thanksgiving and Christmas… I NOW get it!!! There’s always some drama that happened before everyone gathers🤣 Bring it on👊🏻
Being from Michigan I’m convinced that the lions lose intentionally on thanksgiving just to keep the record in tact for most losses on thanksgiving day, that and for years one of my sisters had me convinced that she baked 12 pumpkin pies for thanksgiving every year as a tradition, 20 years after she died family members laughed when, while eating a store bought pie, I commented “sure do miss Judy’s homemade pies”. I still get shit to this day over it, apparently I was the only one who didn’t know she bought them on her way to my parents house at the local grocery store.
Every year growing up we had Thanksgiving with my moms side. We always had the lions game in the living room and the cowboys game in the smoke room or vice versa. Now we moved and we have Thanksgiving with my dad's side and they don't put football on at all... IN TEXAS!
I’m “that” drunk uncle talking obscenities to the nephews in college. I also leave the house and make a trip to Farm & Fleet to just look at tools, guns and ammo.
Atta boy!!! I’m from Chicago! I know it’s the city but my OG’s are from Indiana and Minnesota so I’m already knowing what’s up!! Happy thanksgiving woadie!
Darn near burst out laughing about the Lions losing. Although we were in the car on our way to second Thanksgiving dinner listening to the last 2 minutes, hoping they could pull it off!
Every midwest family! The argument is my favorite part of Thanksgiving as well... The more passive aggressive the better... A close second family tradition is watching the lions loose! Both go well with the bush lattes I bring to the party.
I needed this, something about Thanksgiving brings the worst out of people. I had the worst one yet today and I get to do it again with extended family tomorrow 🥳
Yep, my normally quiet husband yelled at me when I told him to use the big container of maple syrup for his beans. He never does that (he hates his father). The next day I made everyone uncomfortable when they started to moon over their hyper religious auntie and I reminded them of how severely she would beat her little boy at the drop of a hat. I can't allow child abuser to rest happy in people's memories. I think we might put on our fat pants and stay home next year.
Crock pots galore! With the aunts all looking at black Friday ads at 9am even though we're not eating until 1230-1. With all the cousins you see once or twice a year having awkward conversations about "what's new".
The pies are kept frozen until the stores put them out for sale. At least that is what they do here in the Pacific NW. I don't think the extra tim foil pie pan fools anybody lol. Period who make their own pies have their own "real" pie plates, baking plates. But if it makes you feel good go for it. Lol
Being from Ohio our gun season starts the Monday after so we all sit around and argue which way the deer will be running and who's sitting where, I love it bc I stir the pot the whole time.
Helpful hint; when "they" offer to bring something - say YES! I parceled out the whole shebang except for the turkey/mashed taters/gravy. Never cooked a turkey before - followed the directions on the Weber kettle = absolute perfection, stunningly browned!
Good memories, my brother brought his homemade coconut cream pie every year, until I busted him. I was standing in line to get a table of a local cafe, and right there in a pie showcase tower was my brother's pie.
Please pray for me this Thanksgiving. As a single mother things are difficult on me. My husband passed years ago I’m alone. I’m overwhelmed at times because both of my children are autistic. I’m struggling trying to support them and myself because like so many others. I lost my job as a social worker at Forsyth hospital because I declined the vaccine. I declined because of my pre existing health condition lupus and heart disease. I was denied my medical/religious exemption. I wish I could go back to the hospital but the mandate is still in place for hospitals that participate in Medicare and Medicaid. I’m waitressing and I’m so thankful to be working again, but I’m not making nearly enough to make ends meet. I get harassed and called names for simply asking for prayers, but prayers are all we need. Thankfully God gives me strength to keep going. I have faith God will provide. He HAS THIS FAR. WITH GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE! Please pray for me and my children.
Don’t forget the tradition of the family member bringing the new bf/gf to dinner and you get to watch them round first base all night long while you try and stomach your families cooking.

I tried to do that, but my son successfully guilted me into cooking. He is pretty good at the guilt- trip thing. Apparently I taught him too well and he uses it against me now.
We all have the cousin or sister in law who starts the “triggered” arguments, in which everyone immediately feels uncomfortable and embarrassed for that person.
The pie trick is classic. Will have to steal that idea. As for the hated food ( green bean casserole 🤢). I made it clear years ago that I just can’t eat it. It’s an understanding I have with the family. I make up it by eating more, a lot more of everything else. Happy Thanksgiving! Take a nap.
