  • I've owned my 2022 Ram 1500 Rebel EcoDiesel for 18 months and 18,000 miles. I've done some modifications including a 3 inch lift, Method wheels and 35" tires. I use my truck for everything - family hauling, commuting, towing, and off road 4x4 driving. Here's my honest review. No hype - just truth.

⚡Do you think this truck is worth the $69,000 I paid? Do you think Ram was wrong to discontinue the ecodiesel engine?

I owned a 2021 Laramie ecodiesel and it was the best truck I’ve owned. I traded it in due to expanding family after 71000 miles. I thought maintenance was cheap. DEF every 4k miles I think, oil changes were like $65 or so. I did not think it was expensive maintenance. I also paid $65k for it in 2021.

Sad to see you let it go, the Gladiator, I am actually getting one for a flat tow ( 40' - 2008 Monaco MH, 400hp Cummins 1,200ft). Your honest review (Gladiator) and especially about the motor and suspension is spot on.*Now the truck you got is a no no (RAM), You really messed up here.I have a GMC Denali 2500 full size and I will never go to 1500 regardless if it is Ford, GM, or Ram. ( Yes I do also Have a 13' - F-250 LAramie, 04' - 3500 Silverado chevrolet.) Both have been great.
Now the 2500's, The power is actually there and once you get used to 16/mpg... yeah you really don't really care for the mpg for the easy moving around or tow, regardless a bumper pull or a gooseneck or 5th wheel. And yes you over paid for this RAM. For another $20, - $80 on the GMC 2500 would just leave this RAM in the dust.

Thank you for the video and it was informative. If you have to do it again, would you get one with the 5.7 Hemi eTorque engine? Nowdays, you can get one with decent options for $50K+.

My first house was $138k in 2008 I think. Can't bring myself to pay more than $40k for a truck. Thanks for the honest review and some good points about the diesel not really being worth it if you're not towing every day

Put 100k miles on it and get back to us, absolute time bomb of an engine. Fuel parts? Not available, DPF parts? Not available. Intake fault code? Completely carboned off and jammed closed, or open. Part? Not available... Fully serviced by dealer and at 130k the crank bearings are gone due to the high grit soot in the oil.... the day it was stolen I cried with happiness . Id rather listen to a Hemi tick and enjoy the 15mpg.

I have a 2021 Laramie 1500 with the diesel. I bought it in Fall of 2020 before dealers started up charging so actually bought it below sticker. I had a Gen 2 diesel and had too many recall issues with it. This Gen 3 diesel has been trouble free and a more efficient and enjoyable engine to drive. We tow a 4000 lb travel trailer about 1/3rd of the time. It is comfortable, handles well and gets decent fuel mileage while towing. Payback only comes into play after about 60k miles. If you are flipping vehicles every couple years, buy the hemi. I plan on keeping mine a long time

I owned a 2014 Ecodiesel for 6 years and a total of 237k. Now 1 tip i can give anyone that do there own filter changes. Wix filters. Fuel and oil. I did a number of services on my truck. Average was 3 to 4 times a year. And Def lasted an oil change cycle. Also if its available in your area. Get Def from the pump. But yes fuel mileage was the best. Now mine had the smaller 26 gal tank. But still Average 480 miles a tank. But the biggest thing i can stress. When going to Diesel be prepared for expenses. And some of your comlants are based on sorry. Poor timing, not researching. All but adaptive cruise and frint camera was avaliable. Even in My 2014. And the bigger tank will limit def capacity. And GM 3.0 has a twin scroll turbo and VGT. Ecodiesel has just a VGT and also has a program to limit pedal responce. And remember, Apple to Apple. For the price and features RAM is the most inexpensive and usually has better warranty.

Thanks Ian. What’s the payload rating on the sticker? Any issues getting close to maxing that when pulling your trailers with family and gear? That’s what is pushing us towards a 2500 HD with a 8000lb TT and family of 5.

I have driven the Laramie and Rebel back to back, and the steering of the Rebel seems less precise through the corners and at speed compared to the Laramie. I prefer the Rebel, but I would like to see it riding on a more street-oriented tire. That being said, I own a Laramie, and it needs tires, and I'd like something bigger and meatier on it.

That's what turned me off was the extra maintenance, DEF and diesel also going up here in Canada. That and I hate the smell of diesel.
F150s not selling here, car lots are full of them, maybe time for a good deal on one, but I do like the Ram styling better 👍

Interesting info, life is messy, don’t be anxious .
So, $70,000. is too much, I would buy a good used truck before paying that price . Yes, Chevrolet is a good truck and that is why their so popular, buy what you really need, not what you want, frugal is good ! Thanks

Wow! DEF every 1-2k miles? That doesn't seem right. My 2017 Eco Diesel needs DEF every 8-10k. Not sure if that is a byproduct of the redesign between the two, but that is excessive for sure!

@@BigRockOutdoors1I blame the automakers. The markups are because dealers get very few of these vehicles, even though demand is high, so they have to try and make their money when they can. Auto makers either need to produce more of them to meet demand, or raise the prices.
