    This is so informational. I actually sold my 2019 Chevrolet pickup because I got tired of every time I let it sit for a couple days I would have to jump it off. Went through 3 batteries and several trips to Chevrolet dealerships and other mechanics and no one could diagnose the problem. Such an easy fix and they couldn't find it! Bad deal for Chevrolet because i had been a chevy guy for thirty years and will never buy another one because that one was undependable.

    Hello from London. My car had a feature which meant that the radio would switch off when the driver's door was opened. I kept getting a flat battery until one day my neighbour mentioned that she heard my radio playing music some nights when she came home at 3 in the morning from her night shift! I started always turning off the radio manually and that fixed the issue. The switch on the door was re-activating randomly to turn on the radio.

    Great video! I’ve been chasing a possible issue with our 2007 Ford Edge with intermittent depleted battery. Since our retirement, vehicle usage is significantly less, sometimes falling into the 3-4 week range for this vehicle as we have been using the 2012 Escape more frequently. Now understanding what the typical current draw should be and an expected non-use battery life of about 4 weeks I can better evaluate what may/may not be a problem. Thanks for the very detailed explanation!

    Really good Video! Most people tend to look for the complicated issues first when it usually is a simple fix. I would use alligator clips attached to my meter or probe or probes so as not to have to hold the probes manually on the battery or cables during diagnosis. I am an alternating current man myself so working on cars and trucks is kinda foreign to me so I usually find someone else to trouble shoot for me and if I knew some of your tricks I probably would not have needed them in the past. Many thanks.

    Damn. I hate running down shorts in a car. Had a son-in-law (for a minute, glad he's gone) that would drive to where he needed to be, and unhook the negative cable from his battery before leaving the car. Did it for about three years on this one old Chrysler he drove before he wised up enough to dump it for another car. My generation was taught to take care of a car the way it needed to be taken care of, the generation following mine got the idea that they had to go to school to learn how to check the damn oil!

    If I don't turn the radio off when I turn the ignition off, my radio turns itself on randomly and drains the battery. I've been sure to turn the radio off every time, but still have the parasitic drain. I do not have a multimeter and nobody to assist but your video showed me to just pull the radio fuse, to see if this solves my problem. Thank you so much 😊

    Great advice, and from responses too!! ! I need Dummy advice!! I bought this INNOVA 6030P OBD2 Scanner ABS Code Reader-Diagnostic Scan Tool. I have a 2010 IS 250 AWD- What if you have a push button start and my battery is completely dead, & can't be jumped ? Could the scanner still read anything? I don't want to tow my car if I don't have to. I also don't want to get ripped off by a mechanic, that's why I bought it. Any suggestions?? It's been very cold in Seattle. My battery is 3 yo old but according to the warranty it should last longer. I had work done on my car and apparently they didn't tighten up the battery terminals. I didn't notice it when the battery went dead. I had to have it jumped at least 4 x. The 4th guy noticed that the connection was not tightened enough. He tightened it and I didn't have a problem since except for now that the weather cold. Also, i only drive my car once a week. So any of these factors could be the cause of the dead battery?? Hopefully not the alternator!!! UGGGHHH!! !!! 💃🙀

    • @Flashback502
      @Flashback502  2 года назад

      If it keeps going dead then would have alternator tested and if battery is completely dead then reader most likely won't work. Glad could help Please subscribe like and share 🙏.

    Yes I had a special test lamp to test for load draw on the newer cars or any vehicle. You're only allowed so many milliamps draw and if your battery keeps going dead you will destroy the battery the negative plates will sulfate and can't be unsulfate. Do you have a special battery charger and sometimes that won't work either. You should have no more than.200milliamps that's less than a quarter of a amp.

    I did everything I could to see why my battery wasn’t charging, bought a new alternator, and belt, but I wanted to double check before installing all the stuff I bought.THEN AFTER CHECKING TO SEE IF THERE WAS A PARASITE DRAW!! I did the disconnect on the negative black cable. Once I put it back on, all of a sudden, it’s charging at full and no more drop a n my power 🤷🏻‍♂️ I don’t know if by taking off the negative black cable, and putting it back on reset everything. But all seem to be working now

    Fantastic video, however you cannot really do this with today's modern vehicles because pulling the fuse will wake up other modules and you'll be chasing it for a long time. In my opinion it's better to time out the vehicle until the modules go to sleep, and then do a voltage drop test with a Volt meter across the top of the fuses or measure with a low voltage amp clamp.

    In todays modern cars you would have to loop in the multi meter and wait 20 minutes for the computer to go to it's static which means don't open doors and make sure all charging devices in the car are unplugged. There is usually another fuse box inside the car to the bottom left of the steering wheel in most cases.

      If it's cranking but not starting then the battery is not the problem. It could be something with the fuel pump. Please subscribe like and share

    My Accord kept killing new batteries of charge. I finally took it in to a Honda dealership, and they said they could find no parasitic drain anywhere, and charged me $180 for checking. However, they apparently FIXED the problem without knowing it because no problems since! Loose connection somewhere?

    What about the wait time for letting the car modules go to sleep?? Also.. pulling fuses... couldn't that wake up modules and give you false readings?

    It's almost always the radio. Pull that fuse first.
    Even though there has been no sign that it is a problem.

    I have a 02 Mustang v6, and i have this same problem, but I've completely removed my radio, and my battery is still being drained, I'm just seeing this video and haven't had a chance to pull the fuse, but with the radio pulled out would their still be power being pulled?? Or could it be something els draining the battery???
