Many many years ago, myself and several friend were playing pool in an all night bowling alley, and pool room. We were the only people there. Until around 1AM a large man came in and approached the man at the desk. After talking for a few minutes the bowling alley attendant came up to my friends and I and started to tell us we had to leave. At which time the big guy came over and said "Since we were already there we could stay, but not to let anyone else in"... naturally my friends and I thought the place was being robbed and we were all gonna die. Turned out Bob Seager and his band (Who had just finished a concert in town) had rented the entire bowling alley so they could kick back and relax... we ended up partying with them all night... nicest guy you'd ever want to meet.
I was moving a horse that I saved from becoming dog food about 4 hours away and it took 6 grown men almost an hour to get her in the trailer. My uncle was worried about her in the trailer alone and since I was the smallest I sat on hay for 4 house in a horse trailer. When we stopped to grab food we went into a bar that's famous for its hamburgers in San Antonio, NM The Owl then (The Buckhorn now) and when I walked in wind blown and my hair crazy and covered in horse shit and spit, everyone turned and looked at me. And right then I felt what Bob was signing about.

Went to high school with a guy in the late 70's early 80's. He had a 90 cassette tape in his car that was nothing but "Turn The Page" over and over again. He gave me a ride home one day and had it playing. The tape screwed up and I asked him what he would listen to now? He reaches into the glove compartment and pulls out a 90 minute cassette tape. You guessed it, "Turn The Page" over and over again. Oh' yeah, the tape was marked, "Turn The Page #24."
That's the coolest thing I'll read all week. My boyfriend in 79-80 had a 67(?) pontiac with an 8 track player in it. The only tape I remember listening to was The Babys Head First

This song is a masterpiece, truly. I first heard it at about 12 years old (1973). Anyone who hasn't heard the cover of this song by Metallica (yes, I'm serious!) you are really missing out. Fantastic, both versions.
that was because Glenn Fry came to Seger and told him he loved what he was doing but he needed to learn how to make $ first then he could do any thing he likes. lol so they worked together till Bob learned to make $ what a great combo!
For those who don't know, Bob wrote "Heartache Tonight". He has been friends with the Eagles guys for decades. He mentioned being friends with Glenn Frey and has had Glenn, Don Henley, Timothy B. Schmitt, Joe Walsh and Don Felder work with him on various projects.
He is IMHO the voice of America's heartland. When he was young he had an old soul. Turn the page is his best, but Night Moves, Against The Wind and Still the Same are all close seconds. All about yearning for more in the face of our mortality.
Wistful and hopeful at the same time. I've wondered if the metal bands in the next generation were angry because there was no where left for dreams. Everything moved west, and by the 80s, where could you go?
I grew up hearing Bob Seger singing in clubs as a kid, hanging outside of doors around Metro Detroit Area in the 60's. My son has seen him live at least 15 times. He's awesome
The first time i heard this song I had just gotten my driver's license and i was on my way to work. I had to pull over to listen, i was so blown away. As soon as I got off work I dashed out and bought it and i wore that sucker out. We were able to see Bob in concert about 10 years ago and he still absolutely blows it away.
If you can ever get to see this man in concert, Please GO you will not be disapointed. So, So glad I get to see him back in the 1979. One of the Greatest singers and songwriters of all times.
Bob has a depth of character in his voice that he’s been truly blessed to have and thankfully it’s been shared with us. It reminds me of driving up to Indiana back in the mid 80’s with my parents sitting in the backseat passing the time with the radio. It’s damp, cold, wet around thanksgiving. Driving from Florida to Indiana back then wasn’t an easy drive and you’d go from sunshine and beautiful to that miserable wet cold that only Indiana can get at that time of year. Bobs voice always puts me in another time and place in my life. Great song, fun watching your reaction my friend!
Native Hoosier here. You rolled down Highway 41, right? Killer 41, they called it. I know that cold you're talking about. "Normal " winters were cold and wet as a well digger's ass. I lived in on a farm during the winters of 77 and 78. Snow day after day, then 2" ice. Even the far south got hit by the blizzard of 78. Some drifts were 20 feet tall. Summers were always as hot and humid as Gramm's kitchen on canning day . But days in spring and fall so fine you forgot all about the rest.
I freaking LOOOOOOOOOOVE 😍 this man's MANLY sexy, raspy Voice, dang how i WISH i would've/SHOULD'VE had four babies from him back in the 80's just so OUR four babies could end up with his Genes (and Hopefully WITH his Voice Too, but i was in 6th grade in 1980 so i think he'd BE IN Prison for sure, IF him & i would've Dated, ha ha), LOL! 😝 😂 😝 😂 😝 😂 😝 😂

Also, if you like road songs like Turn the Page, you have to listen to Wiser Time by The Black Crowes. The Crowes are another band with dozens of amazing songs worthy of your attention.

On that same record Metallica did a good version of BOC's "Astronomy" and a better version of Thin Lizzy's "Whiskey in the Jar" that was better than the original IMO.
Bob Seger is one of the best ever [FULL STOP] and this was one of my favorite albums as a kid in the '70s. However, this is the LIVE version from the 1976 album LIVE BULLET. The studio version from the 1973 album Back in '72, though a great song, it's no where near as awesome as this live version.
YES! Love This Song! Gotta recommend NIGHT MOVES now. Edit: Oh snap, you did night moves too! YEEESSSSS! I feel bad saying his style is "basic" or "simple" but it is. He just does it SO DAMN WELL, and full of SOUL and EMOTION. He's kind of a minimalist, he doesn't waste lyrics or notes, every one is important. Fun Fact: This song came out 4 years after the movie "Easy Rider", after seeing it's heavily traumatizing ending, this song hits a powerful cord that can relate to the movie.
Greetings from Detroit, @Cifer! Well, you should feel bad saying his style is "basic." His style is laid back Detroit Style. However, I'd say you redeemed yourself by saying everyone of Bob Seger's notes and lyrics are important! ♥ Wishing you well, my new friend!
Simple is the right word. And simple ain't easy. It gives the listener room to breathe in the lyrics. Speaks to the hardworking, rust belt ethic of having a job to do, and getting it done. Heartland rock. Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, John Mellancamp. Bob Seger. Pure.

Jamel_AKA_Jamal. How about mainstreet next? Pronounced “See-gur” You could spend several days covering Bob Seger songs. I’m 55 and have seen many concerts over the years but his is #1 on my list of all time! Thanks for the reaction!
The only tape I remember listening to was The Babys Head First
Awesome
Reads like a scene from a Tarantino movie. ; )
@ted ritola And then came Risky Business and ruined it. I loved that song when I first bought Stranger In Town. Seeing Tom Cruise in his briefs dancing or lip-synching (or whatever, I don't want to know), ruined a classic.
@@757optim Reminds me of the movie The Other Guys when Will Ferrell kept playing Little River Band in the car and Mark Wahlberg was ready to kill him ...
Bob Seger to me has always been the working man's rocker. Springsteen always seemed to be running away from his roots, while Seger seemed to embrace them.
Bruce was kind of always that silver spooned upturned nose type trying to imitate the working mans feelings.
Couldn't agree with you more!
I’ve always thought of Bob as “ bar music” . Being from Michigan, he was on every jukebox in every bar in Michigan. Nothings better than sitting in a old bar , late at night, Smokey and Bob comes on the jukebox
Both valid forms of expression. I love both of these men in very different ways. Kings, both.
@@deuser I disagree in some parts. While yes, always on the jukebox in most bars, his music related in ways most cannot. Feel like a number, that makes ya think.
Years ago performers got "that voice" by paying their dues for years in smoky clubs....

@Move "Show Me the Way" makes a great Sunday-go-to-meeting rock & roll song. Always been one of my favorites.
Love Styx. Love Seger more. 😘
Is it only me that, after almost 30-40 years, really begin understand what the meaning to the songs are? And that if you look back, they hold true today even more so.
"Sounds like Michael McDonald's long lost cousin" is a connection that I had never thought of before, and it fits perfectly.
I know wasn't that perfect, I laughed my ass off when he said that. But it fits.
He had long ass hair .. the cliche' in the 70s was with long hairs. " Is that a woman?"
That really started in the 60's but yeah I was a long hair 70's teen and I know what you mean.
Loved those Detroit Biker Bad Boys with long hair! ♥
"You look like a girl" was a common insult.
@@ms.chuckfu1088~ maybe, but, my friends wore those insults like a badge of honor! They were hardcore, long haired, and leather jacketed bikers, and, we girls loved them! Heck, I even married one 44 years ago!
terry connelly That’s funny I’ve had my hair long since 1969 and back then most just got out of my way or are you a rock star. Lol.
This song is a masterpiece, truly. I first heard it at about 12 years old (1973). Anyone who hasn't heard the cover of this song by Metallica (yes, I'm serious!) you are really missing out. Fantastic, both versions.
I heard the Metallica cover on garage inc before I heard this one. Love em both
When you’re done with all the great Seger suggestions you should try Jackson Browne “The Load Out / Stay” it has a similar feel to turn the page.
Fully agreed !
Just make sure they are together. Officially they are two songs, but they are fully connected.
YES!
Alto Reed. His sax player. Is a beast on sax. He has been with Bob for years.
He was great. One of many we lost in 2020...
Thankful i had the chance to see the farewell tour ,great show but this one song was wrth it
It’s too bad he passed recently... he was a true sax legend.🙌🏼
Was the guys name really 'Alto Reed'? Maybe the best name for a sax player I've ever seen
@@jaythompson5102 it sure was Alto Reed and he IS the sax player.
I appreciate the fact music from this era is still appreciated by todays generation. It’s music that touches you somewhere deep inside.
"Fire Lake" has Eagles singin' backup.
Just sayin'.
that was because Glenn Fry came to Seger and told him he loved what he was doing but he needed to learn how to make $ first then he could do any thing he likes. lol so they worked together till Bob learned to make $ what a great combo!
That's my favorite.
I didn't know that! Epic
landing in london bob seger and 3 doors down...
"Its like Michael McDonalds long lost cousin or something" -- nailed it
No, Michael McDonalds older brother maybe. Seger the original McDonald the wannabe.
Big bro little bro. Both of their vocal talent is unreal.. God given gift.
Hey Jamel, next check out Seger's Mainstreet!
Hollywood Nights, yes
My fav Seger song.
And beautiful loser
this guy was told that he'd never make it with that voice.
Well then he was told by someone who's tone deaf.
@William Stefens To the back? Of the BANK I presume?
@William Stefens I do it too...you can back on it! LOL
HA! the music industry is FULL of idiot executives.
I grew up hearing Bob Seger singing in clubs as a kid, hanging outside of doors around Metro Detroit Area in the 60's. My son has seen him live at least 15 times. He's awesome
You HAVE to do Bob Segar “ Roll Me Away “ my favorite of all of bob segar
How about Seger's Roll Me Away? I cry every time I hear it because it was played over the closing credits of the film "Mask".
Patrick Collins Mask! So good!
That movie gets me every time. It’s got a couple of Seger songs in it
God, I was so mad when I saw the later editions that cut the Seger out. It's not right.
darastarscream right ? I saw that version once....not the same.
laura kali as opposed to still the same? Lol sorry couldn’t resist
Alright here’s what I like about you AKA, everyone who feels it, feels it in the right spots, and you feel that shit...genuine my man.
You should really do “Southern Cross” by Stills, Cosby, and Nash.
Fave.
Please!
And the Jimmy Buffett cover of "Southern Cross" might be even better.
When he hears Southern Cross for the first time, he'll understand why he came this way...
Southern Cross by CS&N... great harmony on that tune!
Bob Seger has that timbre that makes you wonder why he didn't sing the blues as well. That is his catch..that blues voice in a rocker
He has, but they aren't well know like this one or many other great songs. Check out Tryin to live my life without you. That give an idea.
He puts gravel in his voice when it matters. A true gem
Detroit in the house
Jamal...check out Metallica's cover of this song, "Turn the Page." It is really good!
Agreed. Metallica's cover of this song is kickass.
No. No! Don't do it just yet. Get tired of this one first. Please.
Yeah, but Bob's is still the best. : )
I agree Bob is better, but Metallica did a fantastic job and did the song justice! 😉
Bon Jovi do a good one too.
A song by him I know for sure you'll recognize - Old Time Rock & Roll. Also, It is worth checking out the Metallica version of Turn the Page.

Brandon Wiesner Lord Have Mercy!!
That song could be Jamel's theme song!
OTR&R, the album version is Bob covering a demo done by the writer played by Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section.
I would add one more song of his that I didn't see listed by anyone: Old Time Rock N Roll.
That's one he's heard and doesn't know it, I bet ...
If you can ever get to see this man in concert, Please GO you will not be disapointed. So, So glad I get to see him back in the 1979. One of the Greatest singers and songwriters of all times.
The words you are looking for is gravitas & authenticity

Check out “Do you feel like we do” by Peter Frampton. There a specific part I want to see your reaction
Love your videos. Have you done The Band yet? Its a hard band to search through your old videos for, lol. Some of their great songs are Up on Cripple Creek, Chest Fever, The Weight, and Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, just to name a few.
I second that!
All of those selections are solid gold standards.
Its easy to search for the reactions on a computer or a laptop as you can search within the confines of a RUclips creator's page
Another vote for The Band here. I'd also add Life is a Carnival, Across the Great Divide and Don't Do It to the song list. Also, if you like road songs like Turn the Page, you have to listen to Wiser Time by The Black Crowes. The Crowes are another band with dozens of amazing songs worthy of your attention.
If you'd like to learn more about a musicians life on the road I suggest "The Load Out/ Stay" by Jackson Browne. A great one for a reaction vid.
Good one.
EVERYBODY SING!
Now let's hear your falsetto
@@fighthypocrites7036 I always thought that guy was a woman. 😆
@@sandybarnes887 You weren't the only one. He hit notes that teenaged girls strained for. It got easier and everyone sounded better after a few drinks .
I actually won 10 bucks on a bet because I knew it was a guy. Older siblings had me listening to everything and I recognized a male falsetto because of listening to Frankie Valley. A lot of money in 1978.
Don't bet against the kid with 8 older siblings when the subject is rock and roll
This song was covered by Metallica as well. This and his other great song Against the Wind are my favs

One of the songs on every truck drivers favorite list...relate so much
"Main Street" is a must.
Bob Seger is an incredibly talented musician.

The guitar in "Main Street" is probably the simplest, smokiest, sultriest, and strip joint sexy in rock history.

You and I are on the same page, but different videos.
What many people seem to forget is that you can't approach Excellence without first mastering the basics.
Simple, well executed, is a thing of beauty.
Simple is the right word. And simple ain't easy. It gives the listener room to breathe in the lyrics. Speaks to the hardworking, rust belt ethic of having a job to do, and getting it done. Heartland rock. Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, John Mellancamp. Bob Seger. Pure.
I've had this song stuck in my head the whole day. Played Metallica's version in the car, played this version at home later, and now one of my facebook connections shared this reaction video to his timeline leading me to your channel. I might start to think the universe is trying to tell me something... Anyway, you gained a follower. Thank you.
I just discovered this channel by having the Edmond Fitzgerald recommended and enjoyed your reaction so I watched another one, The Great Gig in the Sky. When you said “oh there are no lyrics, she’s just singing her soul. I get it!”, I subbed and have been bingeing for the past hour
Bob Seger is a LEGEND. Honestly, you react to any of his songs and the impact is always soul deep.
This is one of those songs that you can't help but to sing along with, especially the chorus.
Bob is the man! Even in his seventys he’s still rocking today.👍🏻👍🏻
THE FAMOUS FINAL SCENE - Bob Seger ....- 👍 ✌

Absolutely, Jamel likes songwriting and that song is a master class!
His sacrifice, exhaustion, and weariness come through so beautifully. That horn lays up against his voice so well.
