- May 12, 2021 Nothing like getting to one of the most dangerous roads in America for the first time and hitting a wall of fog at the mandatory truck stop. Black Mountain, east of Asheville, NC has a five mile vertical decent of 1,361 feet. The reported grade is 6% along this stretch on I-40. There are three runaway truck ramps! Truckers Beware!! Just another day of driving in the life of a new Werner Trucking OTR Rookie driver.

Was there last week,my first mountain, automatic transmission little training.ty for posting
Jaked down that Grade a few days ago
I’ve been there 4 weeks ago
Be safe hope all is well
Theirs even a railroad pass that serves 4 short trains and loops around the mountain! That's just around a 2% grade. Now I40 sees a 6% grade@
I ran this road last night, thought it was a inspection station , but then there is the map and the warnings, and it is straight down all the way, I feel like after crossing that state border it was 100 miles of all downhill, which is strange cause I don’t remember going uphill at all.. coming from the I-40 all the way from arizona. Is this world round or flat? Or just uphill one way? I’m in a 2019 KW 680 so the hill was easy for the truck with an automatic and a J brake. Was able to keep it at 45 no problems, didn’t even use the brake. I couldn’t imagine driving this road in a older truck. Maybe keep it at 25!
I had a conference for work at Harrahs Cherokee and had to drive myself and a coworker.Thats a sketchy mtn.
Making way too many mistakes as a Rookie...
Bro I was just there last night… it was not fun and it’s only my SECOND week by myself 🫠
You didn’t get a ticket for this did you? I just passed it earlier today going about 42 mph. I’m hoping the cameras aren’t so they can take a pic of your license and send a ticket to your employer.
Mountain is queer
