I'd love to get a job there and move, This state checks off just about every box for me, and having 4 seasons for once would be a nice change of pace. Having both beaches AND mountains is a giant bonus.
I watched it a second time to try to figure out why I watched it the first time. I have concluded it’s because I embrace inanity and mediocrity, especially when it celebrates the great modern American pastime of self-loathing. After this thirty-one minute purge of brain cells, I feel this video is presented from a point of view biased towards contemporary urban experiences while ignoring history and demeaning the values and life styles common among rural and small town culture. Rather than unboxing, it seems to have dragged a lot of boxes out of our national psychological attic and some stereotype containers out of the closet and shoved a diverse and dynamic population into them on the way to a cultural dumping ground of cliches. I’m going to fire it up again after I go pop some Yadkinville popcorn, cover it with some Ashe County butter and sprinkle on some Hatteras sea salt. Yum!
You left out a ton of info on Western NC including Black Bears, Bluegrass, Blue Ridge Parkway, Hillbillies, Hippies, Mt Biking, White water rafting, Hiking, Waterfalls etc but maybe that's a good thing.
@@NickJohnson you fair in the in the video you were an NC native. Also there is so much incorrect information in this video that it should be flagged. The "tar heel" came from during the war. There's two versions. One is they had to put tar on the feet of the nc soldiers to keep them from running away during battle. The other version which is more popular in nc is that they stood their ground so well that it was like they have tar on their heels. More incorrect things: If you wanna move near Charlotte, only go to Davison if you like hippies and breweries. If you want to raise a family to 20 minutes south east to matthews, Weddington, marvin, Wesley chapel. Heck average household income in Weddington and in Marvin is over 120k! Weddington high school (I went there so I'm a bit biased but these are facts) and Marvin ridge high school gave graduation rates of over 98% this is the richest area of the state except for a small town that just had a lot of rich people living there where average income is like 250k. That's a lot for nc. You can get a 4000sq ft home in Weddington for 500k. 15 minutes from the interstate and without traffic 25-30 minutes from uptown. It's ok. I can tell by your accent you have no clue about north Carolina let alone be a native. You have zero accent. You at least got the BBQ right Nc state and unc are MAJOR rivals also not just unc and Duke The flip in the voting was due to the parties pretty much flip flopping themselves. THIS IS NOT A VERY LIBERAL STATE! I can't believe you'd even say that. It's only because of Charlotte and all the Yankees that moved in and ruined everything I've never met a Nationals fans in my life and I've been in nc for 28 years. It's either braves or Yankees (once again from the freaking Yankees coming down and ruining everything like that culture you say we lack.
@@Joshua-ev9uw Exactly right on every point you made. A couple additions. 1. Asheville. Not mountain folk. Put a big circle around Asheville and put “hippies and college kids” 2. The food scene was booming until COVID. Lots of new restaurants bringing ethnic cuisine and new concepts. 3. The Roanoke mystery has pretty much been solved by genetics. 4. BBQ culture is not going anywhere. JD’s Smokehouse in Connellys Springs. 5. Nobody is a Washington Nationals fan. Lots of NYG/NYM/Phillies fans due to northern transplants. 6. Bread, milk, and EGGS. And people’s bad driving starts with a moderate rain, not just snow. 7. Mexican restaurants??? Hickory has: El Paso, El Sarape, Dos Amigos, Rancho Vallejo, Casa Azul, Mi Pueblita, Los Compadres, and probably a few more... you just have to ask the locals. And you didn’t touch on the budding pre-COVID food truck scene.
@@Christackleberry I laughed the moment he said we get an average of 4 to 5 inches of snow all over the state and just discredited most of what he said. I’ve lived here for 20 years and it’s snowed 4 or 5 times..with not even an inch 😂.
@@andrewr3276 I have lived here all of my life. 53 years. It used to snow a lot more when I was a kid. You're right. It doesn't snow very much anymore and I live NW of Charlotte. It doesn't even snow in the mountains nearly as much as it use to.
I like western North Carolina the Appalachian mountain area is gorgeous. Other cities I do like are Charlotte, Matthews, Lake Norman and Hendersonville
High crime, low income, high property/gas taxes so much like most every other state except for the beaches/mountains. Lived there 20 years, it’s no utopia and yes their version of bbq sucks.
I’m a transplant from Massachusetts, moved here in 1970 b/c my USAF husband was stationed in Goldsboro. Stayed here alone when he was sent to Thailand during the Vietnam War? Moved to Ft. Worth, TX, where he retired after 21 years. When he retired, we could have moved anywhere in the US. We both loved NC and decided to move back there. That was in 1974. He died in 2016 and I still live here. I love NC, the food, the moderate climate ( no snow shovels), the mountains and the coast, but most of all the people. I didn’t stay here to try to change it but to embrace it. The difference between a Yankee and a Damned Yankee? A Yankee comes down here for a vacation and goes back up North, a Damned Yankee comes down here and stays! And it’s true. More and more people are migrating here, then piss and moan about how different things are here. I consider myself a Tar Heel and actually resent hearing it. I’ve told a couple of them to head back north where things are just like they like it. People like that are exactly why southerners don’t like northerners. “Grow where you are planted.” A perfect example of the kindness and generosity of the native Carolinians happened to me a few years ago. I had to move out of state for about five years and when I moved back, I had to set up an apartment. I loaded up a shopping cart with a full load of stuff: pillows, spices, dishes, bed linens, etc. I had just opened a checking account and knew that I had several thousand dollars in it. While I was waiting in line at the register, I struck up a conversation with the woman behind me. We never exchanged names but had a nice chat for those few minutes. When my turn to check out finally came, I unloaded my cart and the bill came to over $225. Well, my debit card was declined! I never carry that much cash so I had no choice but to start putting everything back into the cart. The lady that I had been talking to told the cashier to add my bill to hers! I hugged her and started to cry and she said to me, “Welcome back to North Carolina!” I never knew her name and when I asked her for it, she told me that it didn’t matter, she was my welcome back committee. I taught middle school in a very poor county (Pamlico) for eight years and never got a Christmas gift. What teacher doesn’t have a collection of mugs? But every Spring, parents would bring me the fresh from their gardens the best fruits and vegetables-so much better than a mug! I’ll be 80 in a couple of months and still live in my small apartment. . I have family in Massachusetts who want me to move back. Why would I do that when I already live in the best place I’ve ever lived. My bones will be buried in North Carolina dirt.👩🏻🦳❤️
I loved your remarks. It seems you are a true soul sister to Nc. Yes, I was raised here along the coast and I believe we have everything a person needs. Than you for being a wonderful transplant.
Your comment brought me to tears, thank you for sharing and thank you for your service as a military wife. My wish for you is the happiest of Birthdays as you could possibly dream of 🎂🎁🎈 from Wilmington NC ❤️😊
Watch the national news, you will see 50 and 100 car pile ups in the north / New England / Midwest!!! Not scared of the snow, scared of all the yankee madman drivers that have moved here, making our highways dangerous!!!
...Biltmore “hotel”. Hahaha. Let’s correct that to Biltmore Estate; America’s largest home. I guess I could allow your oversimplification of everything and broad brush generalizations pass this time.
I detect a note of disdain in Nick's commentary. So please do not come here. Please stay away. NC sucks with it's genuine, sweet, wonderful people and beautiful beaches n mtns. Stay away.
My family moved to NC in the early 80's and I call NC home. I live on the coast and you missed the major part of this region, the fishing. NC is a great fishing state and hosts the Big Rock fishing tournament which is one of the oldest and largest fishing tournaments in the country. To date it has donated over $6 million to charities for the homeless, children, arts and medical charities.
My family moved to Carteret County (Morehead City) back in the early 90’s and also consider it home as well. Fishing was a huge part of the decision to move here.
My husband and I used to have a 36’ sport fisherman and we kept it at our now torn down cottage across from the marina. I can’t count the number of times we motored right over the spot where The Queen Ann’s Revenge was discovered! We were probably less than 20’ from it-above it. I laughed my butt off when it was found.
That is the problem - you have a place like that or Edenton, but then most of the state is dirt poor and has a terrible obesity rate. Lousy healthcare too outside of overly expensive Duke.
@@NickJohnson I personally love them. Its entertaining and informative. You've already done my state--New York but I used to drive cross country. I'd love to see them all.
Barbecue is still the most famous food in NC. People stand in lines outside of local restaurants for it. Some restaurants run out of barbecue regularly.
What bugged me more is saying there aren't enough Mexican restaurants. There is one on every corner, and quite frankly that is the predominant food in America - and it is sad - there are so many other "Spanish" foods that are neglected for Americanized Mexican food. All it is in the US is taco tuesday, forgetting about other fab foods like Cuban, Dominican, Peruvian, Salvadoran, Brazilian food. And some of the worst Chinese food in the country too.
It's called the tarhill State due to the way soldiers fought in the revolutionary war. The British said it was like they had tar on their hills because they would stand their ground and would not move.
You left out Fayetteville/Fort Bragg, almost 300,000 residents mostly military people from all over the country. All you mention was crime. Who doesnt have it? We have Ft. Bragg largest military installation in the country.

Most of my childhood was in NC. I lived in Jacksonville, Camp Lejeune, Newport, Havelock (Cherry Point is there and I lived on that base too), and Hubert Swansboro area. I got the opportunity to go to Charlotte to see my Panthers play, I loved New Bern so much. God I miss my childhood and I wasn't born there. Just a Florida boy who's childhood state home was NC. Miss ya Carolina 💔
I've lived in NC since 1982 and have been lucky enough to have a job that has given me an opportunity to see every corner of this place. I think Nick's take is mostly accurate but misses the mark in some key areas. First, Greensboro is growing and is attracting some high end companies, like Honda Jet. Granted, it hasn't grown like Raleigh or Charlotte. BBQ is alive and well (also delicious) and I don't see it dying. Lastly, the Outer Banks are far from boring as long as you appreciate history, both natural and human. One more, church is big here but probably less than 50% of the population goes on a regular basis.
@@tiwhishaluster3972 Are you looking for a town near Charlotte to live or places to visit after you're there?. For a place to live, there are several small towns in Union County just Southeast of Charlotte which are nice. Also, several small towns around Lake Norman which is North of Charlotte. For places to visit, Davidson is a nice little town on Lake Norman. My top pick for a good day trip would be Brevard which is a little over two hours to the west. There is also Lake Lure and Chimney Rock in the same area. There are lots of great places if you get out and explore when you get here. There's some crappy places too. Disclaimer: I don't live in Charlotte so advice from a local may be more valuable.
I was born in Houston TX raised there. I took a contract job in Cherokee NC that was for three years. While working i experienced little towns such as weaverville and Asheville also experienced Charlotte and Wimbleton of the coast. Traveled the blue ridge parkway.. Needless to say i fell in love with NC and made a bold move to relocate here in Asheville. I love NC and been here since 2007 and hopefully I'll die here.
I was going to mention that. NC is the only place you can have all 4 seasons in one week. That's the one thing I don't like about NC, if it weren't for the crazy weather, it would almost be the perfect state...
Lately it's been doing nothing but raining! I live near Jordan Lake kinda and it's something like 12ft higher then normal right now. PS - this comment served absolutely no purpose and in a week or two it will be completely obsolete.
From someone who has been born and raised in NC around the east coast I feel like there isn’t a lot of attention towards the beaches except Wilmington lol. Whenever I tell someone where I’m from they immediately think Wilmington even though I’m about and hour and a half north. The mountains are truly beautiful. Almost like a completely different state up there
This was an ok video but you failed to mention our crazy weather most of the year, 75 one day, then 45 the next. Also, a lot of movies have been shot here. Georgia has a better film industry right now, but hopefully NC can make a comeback. And BBQ is king here, especially pulled pork!
i think hb2 is the main reason they dont film so many movies here. the outer banks series on netflix is an example. it's based in the outer banks, but hb2 made it hard to film here so they had to do it in SC.
NC weather isn't that crazy compared to other states. The northeast has crazier examples than what you gave and I'd say the weather there isn't all that crazy either. BBQ is a matter of preference. Most states that are famous for it think they have the best.
The problem is... is that nc was one of the 1st in the south so you will see change here 1st... but get outside of the major metros here and you will feel the “old south”
@@Ishyabish1 (the Research Triangle and Charlotte are not very Southern at all due to ppl moving in from other areas and different industry from rest of South but the rest of the state is indistinguishable from other parts of the deep south).
As a native of Greensboro, I have to say that the Gate City is a fast growing small city as well. There is much improvement and charm in Greensboro. When I was growing up, yes this video would be accurate in stating that there wasn’t much going on in GSO. But now, the Triad is also one of the fastest growing areas in America. There is much growth to the Boro, especially downtown. No, we are not Raleigh or Charlotte (I have lived in both of those areas as well), yet I still prefer the wonderful of the beautiful Gate City.
I have only lived in Greensboro for 2 years, but I love it, great mid-size city with plenty to do and if you ever want a big city experience, Charlotte & Raleigh are less than 90 minutes away, usually after 1 day in C/R, I am ready to go back to Greensboro.
Winston Salem is a growing city as well. They have done an insane amount of work to revitalize downtown. Ten year difference is insane. Also he said there wasn't a lot of Mexican restaurants... Idk if he was being sarcastic or not, but they're all over in Winston. And they're actually good. BBQ spots are good in ws too. The triad is on the up. High point is dragging a little, but they're coming around
I totally agree, Marcus. I grew up in Greensboro many years ago and this video describes what I remember as a kid and young adult. I haven’t lived there in many years, but I did visit a few years ago and am aware that a great deal of revitalization has gone on in recent years in the downtown area. The city is really flourishing now.
Agree. I grew up in Winston and live in Greensboro. The pictures used to represent the triad are NOT a clear representation. Being 1 of the 3 metropolitan areas in the state, it’s disappointing it was so poorly misrepresented.
I live in Greensboro and it is my favorite place to live. I have lived up and down the east coast, as well as, a couple of cities on the west coast. It is not a giant city, nor is it a small town, it's perfect
I was born and raised in Chicago and spent many years as an adult living in Wisconsin. The mountains of North Carolina beat crowded and corrupt Chicago by a mile. And while Wisconsin is a beautiful state with great people, it is run by far-left politicians. As a result, the cost of living in Wisconsin is double what my cost of living is in the Blue Ridge Mountains. So, North Carolina wins hands down.
Wait what?? Only recently did a Democrat finally beat the former right wing governor Scott Walker, the state assembly is usually always dominated by Republicans?
I've traveled to 30 countries including Mexico. The Mexican restaurants owned by Mexicans have pretty good food. Maybe you prefer Tex-Mex over Mexican. Also, Biltmore Hotel? Come on man!
And Carrboro/Chapel Hill. There's a large Latino population here and some amazing little hole in the wall restaurants, taco trucks, tiendas and pastelerias. You just gotta know where to go to get away from the usual Americanized "Mexican" food.
I love North Carolina I have lived In Winston Salem for 10 years. I have also lived in Santa Barbara county in California, International Falls MN, Cusco Peru, Tampa FL and Houston TX and I can honestly say it is my favorite place! It is just such a great middle ground of city life, close proximity to great beaches, mountains and many big cities on the east coast!
PA has all of that, too, and is one of the most beautiful states (southeastern PA, esp Bucks Cty, can be as little as 50 minutes to the beach in NJ), but N.C. does seem to have much to offer as well -- and those mountains!
Thanks for this. I’m looking at moving there for the reasons you mentioned, plus cost of living and proximity to the other cities in the state. But he doesn’t seem to like WS based on this video and others, so I was getting nervous.
Lived in NC my whole life. It's cool being able to drive 4 hours one way and be at the ocean or 1.5 hours and be at the mountains. I find NC doesn't really have a stereotype as the areas that compose it have so many. I'm outside of Charlotte. I can go one way and be around a lot of hicks or another and be in the "city" in under 30 minutes. Then you have the hipsters in Asheville (part of Boone). The triangle is a super underrated area of education as well. TBH, I feel higher education in NC is underrated in general. I got away almost debt free with my bachelors degree and I honestly felt the education was top notch.
@@football4ever605 If you fit in with man buns and birkenstocks and hate america, Chapel Hill will be a nice fit. Raleigh is real close. Durham has a crime problem. North Charlotte is not bad.
@@football4ever605 it really depends on what you do for a living. Raleigh area is high tech and Charlotte is more finance. Both having good medical fields. Winston Salem and Greensboro area have a slurry of it all, just at a small cheaper scale.
@@SuV33358 In the summer of 2012, I drove up to Buffalo to do a 5K with some friends. It had been hovering in the 90s with extremely high humidity for quite a while at home, but down here, that's just something you kinda deal with. (I have lived in TN and NC for my whole life.) So I'm registering for the 5K at the stadium, and everyone is super stressed for some reason. When I got to the front of the line for my t-shirt and bib number, the lady registering me said "PLEASE be extremely careful tomorrow!" And I'm thinking there's some sort of danger on the track, maybe a serial killer is loose....no clue. I asked what I needed to be careful of, and she said "haven't you heard, we're having a heat wave!" I asked what the expected weather was, and she said 85. I was very polite and didn't laugh, but I called my friends afterwards and told them. The race was starting at 7 in the morning, and it was totally comfortable...not even any humidity to speak of, but I will never forget that. It's just all in where you come from. :-)
@@hellokimmy68 lol, exactly... you're right. When I first posted it was supposed to be all in fun, kinda sarcastic. I guess the inflection was misunderstood. Thanks for the story!
@@SuV33358 Absolutely! I think all parts of the country kind of tease each other for various weather situations. The south can't handle much snow, because we rarely get any, the north doesn't typically get hurricane force storms and the long range oppressive heat and humidity we get down here. In the Pacific Northwest, many people don't have AC, so they've been left stranded in their heatwave, but down here, AC is pretty much a necessity. Everybody has something.
@kimberly guinn this is kinda unrelated but it might be interesting, certain parts of ohio around cincinnati and dayton are incredibly hot and humid in the same way or worse than NC is it’s kinda wild. And they still get hella snowz
I grew up in Eastern North Carolina, on a tobacco farm. Some of the nicest people live there. I went to college at UNC in Chapel Hill. I have lived in Raleigh, Wilmington, and Greensboro. All those are great places, but you can't beat Greensboro for quality of life and raising a family. It's a great small city with great amenities. Don't overlook the Triad area if anyone is moving to NC.
They're in the process of extending I-87 and I42 to the coast passing Greenville right now, So Greenville and the surrounding areas to the coast line might experience significant growth in the years to come. Just visited Greenville for a few days with my fiancee, absolutely beautiful city.
I’ve been living in Wilmington for 20 years, transplant from Phoenix via Los Angeles …. most of the time it’s absolutely beautiful here, I am blessed 😊
nemesis656 Ive lived in Biloxi, MS, and ive spent a lot of time in Jacksonville FL. The humidity in those places is identical to coastal N.C. Raleigh isn’t quite as bad because the elevation helps
I'm from the mountains of NC (I work in Asheville) and yes we have a favorite college basket ball team even if you don't watch. Biltmore is not a hotel it is a privately owned house. We like thick BBQ sauce. Everyone has a nickname. And all regions (flat, foothills, and mountains) are COMPLETELY different worlds.
Loved this video! I'm a native Iowan, but my mother was a native of Randolph County, NC who grew up in Asheboro. You say "redneck" like it's a bad thing. LOL. Best people in the world! I have never really seen a part of North Carolina I didn't like. Keep on making these fun videos!
Regarding the culinary scene, Raleigh has the reigning James Beard national chef of the year, so there's that. Certainly it's no California, but the food scene isn't that dismal.
I mean this same guy said “unless you’re rich you’ll probabaly want to live in a place like Cary” - Cary being consistently ranked one of the best places to live in the country and insanely expensive.
I was born just south of NC, my father is from NC. I've currently lived in Charlotte for the past five years. The way I see NC is three areas: you have the mountains with Asheville, Charlotte and it's metro, and then Raliegh and the eastern areas. And none of these three areas want to have anything to do with the other areas. They're all separate states of mind.
The video he used to show the outer banks was actually from Kure Beach on pleasure island right below Wilmington, so not anywhere close to the outer banks at all.
@@NickJohnson You're doing great! I've been binging your videos and I really love the songs. They make me smile, and that's not easy lately. Thank you.
Great video! I have traveled internationally for 20 years. I recently moved to NC. I through the years I have come to see culture like having a dialectic. People never think they have one, but we all do. From you perspective of culture, what ever particular elements you identify. (Culture is the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, encompassing language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts.) Every place has a culture look and embrace it can be found. It might not look like something you expect. There are many small town events where local culture can been seen. .
I like the video but I feel like there is SO much more-low key, maybe that’s good, keep the rest of the treasures to yourselves as the residents! Shores to mountain tops it will always be my favorite place!
North Carolina is one of those States that I just can't figure out, and I don't know why. I guess because the big cities, which are big and has stuff to do, just doesnt have much name recognition and the beaches, which are beautiful, are just very quiet. And you're right about that not feeling like an East Coast place. Unless if I'm right next to the beach it just doesn't feel like a coastal state to me like Florida or South Carolina
I lived in Charlotte 2005-2007,seemed like a big forest with all the trees, didn't rain often, but came down in buckets when it did! Was surprised it had alot of big city problems, saw some southern hospitality. Streets seemed strange, not a grid like I am used to. Only place I lived where I saw the four seasons, too cold?,too hot? ,won't be long before you see spring or fall!!
A few things I disagree with: There ARE a lot of Mexican restaurants in NC, every town has at least a couple of them. I don't know where you live, but central NC has an overwhelming amount of options, I'd say much more so than every other state I've lived in. I would say that NC is firmly a Southern State with true Southern culture, but that's changing due to the massive influx of transplants. Really depends on where you're living though. Greensboro and Winston Salem, while overshadowed by Raleigh and Durham in terms of growth, are still growing cities that have a lot of charm to them. Lots of new jobs and stuff are moving westward from Raleigh to the Triad area. I felt like you could have talked about the Triad area a bit more and it's significance to Civil Rights, tobacco, furniture, and a bunch of other industries. I live in the Triangle area but I'd recommend transplants check out the Triad as cost of living and development are shooting through the roof here in the Triangle. Western NC and towns like Boone or Cullowhee could have gotten a bit more coverage. Other than that, pretty solid coverage of what life is like in NC.
i grew up in central VA, then moved to the pacific northwest in 2008, and in two weeks i'm moving to charlotte. missed the east coast bigtime. this video just randomly popped up in my recommendations, so thanks!
Home prices are rapidly rising here in the Triangle. We are also becoming a major foodie destination, the restaurant scene here is diverse and booming.
My neighbors are from Minnesota! They love it here in N.C. and have been here for many years. Good people! They fit right into our southern neighborhood.
Well done for a brief overview. FYI Winston Salem and Greensboro have had a small facelift and renewal downtown and are clean and low crime. The benefit of these low key places that are not growing - first they don’t want to grow like Raleigh or Charlotte because we don’t have the traffic and high prices that come with that. We can get anywhere in ten minutes. If you golf NC is Heaven. I’d say the video is accurate.
I’ve lived right outside of Boston in Cambridge, MA and in Druid Hills (Atlanta) and I think the only superior thing about NC is the cost of living (and the more mild winters compared to the winters in MA). Aside from that, I’m personally not a huge fan. Everyone says “oh NC is so great because you’re 3 hours from the beach and mountains”....In MA, you’re never more than 30 min from the beach and mountains... Maybe I’m just a medium-sized city gal, at heart. I agree that there’s not much of an east coast vibe here.
Couple of things I'd like to mention. 5:13 The old Charlotte Coliseum, the one where the "original" Charlotte Hornets played, used to sell Marlboro products. You couldn't smoke inside the arena but they did sell dip IIRC and Marlboro was one of the teams old corporate sponsors. Probably the only NBA team to be sponsored by tobacco. 6:37 I think there's a better music scene than some people might think. There's plenty of music festivals throughout the state, in particular Hopscotch, Moogfest, Dreamville, and Wide-Open Bluegrass in the Triangle. It's not Austin or Nashville but you can find something you like within the state. 11:58 I'd like to take this time to mention that the Hurricanes are a 'Bunch of Jerks' and they are fun.
I was born in Winston Salem. I love the fall, winter and spring, from end of October to last week of April. Summer sucks cause of the humidity and Miskito's and other bugs. I have a summer home in Colorado where i stay at from May to end of October. The summers are beautiful there and there is so much to do.
Ft Bragg one of the most important military bases in the world... really missed Fayetteville here which is an important city in the state. It’s not near the best places but an important one.
I grew up on Goose Creek Island NC. It's about an hour outside of New Bern. Growing up there, it was a booming Island of farming, and fishermen. The waterfronts were dock after dock of fisherman's boats, including my dads. For a small Island , we also had/ have, six churches that I can remember. Growing up there in the 70's, 80's and early 90's, the only way on or off the Island was by draw bridge. If you got caught by the bridge opening , you can plan to sit there for at least an extra 15 minutes , sometimes longer. Now, they have replaced it with a highrise bridge. This bridge gives you beautiful views of the intercoastal waterway. You can catch some of the most beautiful sunrises or sunsets along the waterfronts there.
I’m from Virginia but I love visiting NC, we go down to the outer banks a lot, we have family in Asheville, it’s one of our favorite places to go during Christmas

Yum!

Lifetime NC resident here, great vid and it’s amazing how much you explained in a relatively short video. Thumbs up! 👍
Hi. I'm new - 5 years in NC :)
More incorrect things:
If you wanna move near Charlotte, only go to Davison if you like hippies and breweries.
You at least got the BBQ right
Nc state and unc are MAJOR rivals also not just unc and Duke
The flip in the voting was due to the parties pretty much flip flopping themselves. THIS IS NOT A VERY LIBERAL STATE! I can't believe you'd even say that. It's only because of Charlotte and all the Yankees that moved in and ruined everything
I've never met a Nationals fans in my life and I've been in nc for 28 years. It's either braves or Yankees (once again from the freaking Yankees coming down and ruining everything like that culture you say we lack.

Exactly right on every point you made.
A couple additions.
1. Asheville. Not mountain folk. Put a big circle around Asheville and put “hippies and college kids”
Hickory has:
El Paso, El Sarape, Dos Amigos, Rancho Vallejo, Casa Azul, Mi Pueblita, Los Compadres, and probably a few more... you just have to ask the locals.
And you didn’t touch on the budding pre-COVID food truck scene.

A perfect example of the kindness and generosity of the native Carolinians happened to me a few years ago.

To date it has donated over $6 million to charities for the homeless, children, arts and medical charities.

One more, church is big here but probably less than 50% of the population goes on a regular basis.

hey shane! I just moved away from raleigh.
@@NickJohnson I'm loving Raleigh so far. I tend to like change though, so who knows!
Hiiiii hun
Amazing video Nick! I wanted to see same videos from all states! I like you using a map to show areas !!
Hey Jason I'll try :)
Hi Kristina!
Do the Vanderbilts still own Biltmore Estates? They use to own Biltmore Ice Cream. Not sure now. Do you know Kristina Frady?
Loved this video! I'm a native Iowan, but my mother was a native of Randolph County, NC who grew up in Asheboro. You say "redneck" like it's a bad thing. LOL. Best people in the world! I have never really seen a part of North Carolina I didn't like. Keep on making these fun videos!
Left out the great NC zoo near Asheboro.
Regarding the culinary scene, Raleigh has the reigning James Beard national chef of the year, so there's that. Certainly it's no California, but the food scene isn't that dismal.
I went to Cali, it is NOT all that. Even with all the growth, NC has cleaner beaches.
James Beard? Never heard of her
I mean this same guy said “unless you’re rich you’ll probabaly want to live in a place like Cary” - Cary being consistently ranked one of the best places to live in the country and insanely expensive.
Mountains, Foothills, Piedmont and Coast! All different.
Yep, NC been it's own thing since the 80s
The video he used to show the outer banks was actually from Kure Beach on pleasure island right below Wilmington, so not anywhere close to the outer banks at all.
The songs at the end are the best part of these videos! Very informative too.
Trying here
@@NickJohnson You're doing great! I've been binging your videos and I really love the songs. They make me smile, and that's not easy lately. Thank you.
My home state
Always lived here, western NC
.the best
I have lived in North Carolina all my life. Been to other states traveling I'll pick NC over any other.
I don't blame you Im stuck in Massachusetts for now Love to visit Mt. Airy
There are many small town events where local culture can been seen. .
Soon as the subject of crime came up I knew Fayetteville wouldn't be far behind 😅🤣
🤣🤣🤣 fayettnam
Great to see , u bring back the unboxing series........
I love living in this state I live in the middle of it I was born n raised up north moved here almost 4 years ago truly love it
I like the video but I feel like there is SO much more-low key, maybe that’s good, keep the rest of the treasures to yourselves as the residents! Shores to mountain tops it will always be my favorite place!
Mine too Brandy
Only place I lived where I saw the four seasons, too cold?,too hot? ,won't be long before you see spring or fall!!
i love living here. i truly believe it’s the best state. we have a mix of everything here
So beautiful watching North Carolina is such a beautiful place Rylche
Hi Nick, it would be fun if you did a video on how you ended up in North Carolina from your hometown of San Bernardino. It was San Bernardino, right?
do you think people would care?
@@NickJohnson yes, we love u bro 😅
@@NickJohnson Actually Nick---I'm sure many of us would like to hear about your move, the reasons for it, etc. That would be very interesting!
Hmm well maybe I'll tell that story some day then
You have well over 100,000 subscribers that faithfully watch your videos. Of course we care to know!
A few things I disagree with:
There ARE a lot of Mexican restaurants in NC, every town has at least a couple of them.
Facts there is so many Mexican Restaurants
It ain't Southern where I live at lol
North Carolina is not so bad I wouldn't mind living there someday
Join the crowd ! N. C. is now 9th in population (as mentioned in the video).
Born n raised. I love it so much
i grew up in central VA, then moved to the pacific northwest in 2008, and in two weeks i'm moving to charlotte. missed the east coast bigtime. this video just randomly popped up in my recommendations, so thanks!
Ok Jennifer. It's not random. RUclips knows everything:)
Lol, this channel is great. Love the music at the end.
I wholeheartedly agree with his last basketball statement! #Heels!!!
Home prices are rapidly rising here in the Triangle. We are also becoming a major foodie destination, the restaurant scene here is diverse and booming.
Very nice video just came here last week from Minneapolis, haven't totally relocated however I plan to stay for a couple months.
Minneapolis is pretty good i miss it there.
My neighbors are from Minnesota! They love it here in N.C. and have been here for many years. Good people! They fit right into our southern neighborhood.
That person blowing through the red light at 1:00 was a real nice touch!
Asheboro born and raised here... I get asked all the time when I go out where I’m from. Inwear that as a badge of honor.
yep.
Ole trashbroro. I avoid that place like the plague.
@@theredgoatviking4686 yep
From Greensboro. I love my state and always jump at the chance to show my state pride.
YES!
High Point in the house!!
Love the video I live in NC love it here your video is hilarious and accurate especially the south Carolina part
I was born in Winston Salem. I love the fall, winter and spring, from end of October to last week of April. Summer sucks cause of the humidity and Miskito's and other bugs. I have a summer home in Colorado where i stay at from May to end of October. The summers are beautiful there and there is so much to do.
Live in Kernersville born here also hello
Ft Bragg one of the most important military bases in the world... really missed Fayetteville here which is an important city in the state. It’s not near the best places but an important one.
I was stationed there at Cherry Point for 2 years. I so miss living there.
dave johnson I used to live in River Bluffs, just a couple of miles away on route 70. Loved it there!
Hiiiii
Awesome!
The song at the end is the exact reason why I will subscribe
I’m from Virginia but I love visiting NC, we go down to the outer banks a lot, we have family in Asheville, it’s one of our favorite places to go during Christmas
Hey Danielle! We're neighbors
I lived in Charlotte were I worked as an engineer. It's a great place to live. Charlotte is not too big and not too small. Just about the right size. Then the pandemic hit and I had to move back to Toronto to stay with my mom because I lost my job.
Y'all got Carowinds too, that's definitely worth the drive from Virginia.
We have most of it. A portion of Carowinds is located in South Carolina. I believe it is the only amusement park that has a state line running through it.
Why come to Carowinds when you have Kings Dominion and Busch Gardens in Virginia?
I live near Charlotte but would choose Williamsburg Busch Gardens over Carowinds.
This was a huge help sense I'm moving from Michigan to Asheville next month
You'll like it way better I think
@@NickJohnson I'm super excited I hope so
It's great,people are great,and I miss the Tar heel state.👏👏👏👏👏
