2922 update on Raleigh: lived here for 37 years. Finally retired and cannot get out fast enough. Huge amount of traffic congestion. Every forested area being developed as fast as the developers can build. Property taxes and utility rates have gone up considerably every year were have been here. Housing market now unaffordable. In the early 1900’s an exclusive train line would bring the high society down from up north so they could enjoy polo, golf, horse racing and fox hunting. There was a black and white footage reel pinned to the end of this video showing that.
Used to live in Morrisville. I know statistically it's good but one huge downside is you're close to the airport and it's very loud. I heard planes all day and night and had to move to north Cary to get away from it. I live in a small town in Gaston County outside of Charlotte now. I like being in a more "North Carolina" like town with more down to earth country folk. I am close to Charlotte so I have all that I want but it's easy to get away. The biggest thing I miss about Cary though is diversity. Cary and Morrisville attracted people from all around the world and it was so cool get to experience different cultures.
I live in Huntersville and it's true that the areas around Davidson are amazing. You don't even need to head into Charlotte for anything, which is very good, considering how bad Charlotte has gotten recently.
I used to live in Raleigh for 3 months back in 2009. I liked it a lot. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I had to move away. I wish I still lived there.
I lived in Wilmington NC and I loved it. You either have to own your own business or be in the Heath industry in order to afford to live there. I know people from Charlotte and Raleigh that move there and then moved back to where they came from because the cost of living and not a lot of high paying jobs.
Same story in Asheville. Not sure if I've posted on that here or on another video, but my late uncle lived in Asheville for years and fought tooth and nail against the rising costs of living there. Both sides of my family have their roots in Western NC.
I live in Greensboro and although it has it’s problem areas it is still a great place to live with great educational, cultural and recreational activities. Many safe and charming neighborhoods and 3 hours from the beach and the mountains.
I would love a update on how affordable people think Raleigh, Cary, and other places like Chapel Hill think about prices still being reasonable to buy or rent in 2023. The cost to live here is getting excessively expensive unless you work for a big tech firm. It's honestly getting too expensive and pushing out the middle class. It's sad
I lived in number 2, Cary for 15 years. It's so true that I seldom had to leave Cary. I lived in downtown and could walk to nearly everything I needed.....groceries, library, bars, city hall, the train station, etc. Everything was within a square mile. Unfortunately, one of those was the mall. It has just been torn down. I really miss living there, but probably couldn't move back due to housing costs. Still, I might consider renting a room in a house so I could enjoy my remaining years. I live in Jacksonville, a military town similar to fayetteville, except we have a beach close by and the crime has been drastically cut from what it was in the 70's and 80s.
Western NC is the jewel of NC as far as I am concerned. Especially in the tri state area touching the North Georgia and Tennessee lines all the mountains go straight up to the Blue ridge parkway and smoky mountains. Less cities mostly woods and mountains and lakes.
Born and raised in North Carolina. I grew up in the Davison-Mooresville-Cornelius with family all around that area. After living 10 years in inner-city Charlotte, I wish I could go back. Now it is so expensive and much more crowded than it was 20 years ago. Needless to say, other old towns are cleaning up and growing into something. I'm happy to be purchasing my first home in Gastonia very soon.
I am from New Jersey, and I know three people that live in North Carolina. 1. My cousin lives in New Bern, 2. My former longtime friend/girlfriend Tammy and her family lives in Jacksonville, and 3. A person that worked at my old high school and ran a activity for those with disabilities lives in the Raleigh/Durham area.
I currently live in Morrisville, but I'm moving to Holly Springs as soon as they finish building our house. I've loved living in Morrisville because of how easy it is to get anywhere in the Triangle, and it takes me less than five minutes to get anywhere I need to go to pick up necessities (Target, a bunch of grocery stores, and restaurants are all really close by). We had absolutely zero luck finding a house around here, though. I'm excited to see how Holly Springs goes, it feels like it has a little more despite being a bit further out.
Good luck Brandon! We lived in Holly Springs since 1999 and moved 6 years ago. One of the biggest mistakes of my life. I watched that town explode from literally nothing and now it's one of the best places to live. You will find out very soon why people love living there...
I've been living in NC since 2003. You haven't truly experienced NC until you go to western NC and experience the mountains. Asheville, NC is really cool.
Pretty cool to see my town ( Holly Springs, NC ) made the list. I grew up in north Raleigh and after also living in Knightdale & Garner moved to Holly Springs 25 years ago ( 1998 ) . Yes, I have seen it transform. Love it here but like most places the additional traffic is always the price we pay in a growing area.
As much as I love the Triangle area your list was a bit biased . I also think parts of Winston Salem, Asheville, Wilmington are nice not too mention like dozens of small towns like Southern Pines.
Wilmington has it's rough spots, but it's a great city. Just about any town along the coast could have made the list, like Southport, Beaufort, Manteo. Asheville is nice, but it's too much like Chapel Hill - wealthy, uppity, hippie culture.
I've lived in NC for my entire 54 years. It's a great state, but with that comes more people moving in...by the droves! Now I'm looking to move to a lower populated state when I retire, which I would inadvertently cause hatred to that states native population for the same reason! 😕
Greenville is def one of the best cities. It's more conservative than the rest of NC but the college and medical community is huge. It's one of the most affordable cities in America to live. Coming from the North in 95 its the most affordable city you get to. And ECU Pirate tailgates rock win or lose. Very friendly city and great eastern NC bbq
It's such a college based town though. Half of the city is yuppies and students and the other half is ghetto. There's There's a good reason most ECU grads don't stick around long after graduating
Interesting. I lived in Raleigh and you named the town's my Dad, brother and sister all live in today. We all migrated here. You didn't mention the traffic in the triangle and north of Charlotte stinks. Take a look at the other great places in NC to live that aren't around the triangle or Charlottem it a big beautiful state. I live on the coast. Awesome.
I recently moved to New Bern to be closer to my son (who is in Oriental) after living for the last 34 years between Wilmington and Leland. I have to say that I LOVE NEW BERN! It has that small town feel, less traffic, the people are so friendly and it is very affordable. I live off one of the main roads and everything is so convenient. I can go two weeks on a tank of gas! If you ever decide to do the top 10 places to live on the NC Coast, you have got to include New Bern! :)
Moved from Connecticut to north carolina awhile ago. Love it here. And I laughed at ct unboxing video you did cause it's true lol glad I came to a state I love and want to raise a family. North carolina
Cary #2? Almost no one who has lived in the Triangle before 20-30 years ago would want to live in Cary. The same could be said for Apex, Holly Springs and Morrisville. Cary being the worst. All of these towns are for transplants. I like Raleigh, Wake Forest, Durham and Chapel hill though and there's plenty of transplants there too. Home prices have gone up quite a bit since this video was published. My best places in NC are many coastal and mountain towns where good jobs are scarce and probably not the best schools or home prices. Beaufort (Crystal Coast), Wilmington, Asheville, Brevard and Waynesville.
Other than Cary, I would not live in any of these cities for soo many reasons. Seriously, how about getting west of the triangle? I live in Cherokee County and wouldn't move from here if you paid me. Murphy NC, come visit one day!
I started watching these videos because when I'm older i want to move out of my small town in Ohio. Dozens of videos later and now I have my answer. Gosh North Carolina sounds amazing.
I'd rather be in the mts. But, in Cary I'm not far from the beach and 3hrs to the highest mt with a paved road on the East Coast. Mt. Mitchell. The coast has Palm trees.
Tyler let me tell you western NC is amazing, I moved here 5 years ago from up north. I use to love to go to Asheville but crime got out of hand, hopefully they'll throw the idiots running that city out. Love the smaller cities and mountains along with the waterfalls, truly amazing!!
@@tylermoreland9594 Thank you, I hope you find a place to call home as well, I did quite a bit of homework before buying a home here. I'm thankful that it's where I intend to retire and create more memories with family. Good luck just follow your heart!! I did!!
I live in S. Raleigh near Fuquay-Varina. My kids went to elementary school in Fuquay-Varina, middle school in Holly Springs and high school in Apex. That's how close I am to all of these. I love living here and I feel safe here.
I know all places you mentioned except Elon, Pinehurst. I love living in Cary. I have lived in 5 different states in many different places in Northeast. But I like NC so much that I'm staying for a long time!! If you're planning to move to NC, don't try to bring the same attitude that you want to escape from the other state.
I travel to North Carolina under the age of Ten,and several times after that with my parents, and,for the first time I got to live their, for one year, and two months, but came back because my dad needed help, and today since 2019 Monday I am seeing the first big snow flakes in Jersey; I told my friend I am going back to North Carolina; I laughed, so hard tears came out my eyes I told Her.
I live in the Triangle area, every day it’s getting more crowded and more expensive, housing costs are through the roof, acres of woods are being torn down to make room for new subdivisions, the roads are a mess thanks to no decent public transportation to RTP, I live off a two-lane road and it’s a nightmare with the traffic, especially after 4PM. These are a lot of good things about the area, but the unregulated growth is out of control. If I could afford to live in another part of the state, I would. But I live with my widowed father rent-free and have a job I like, so I’m staying. I don’t mind the growth around me, I mind the pace of it which is dizzying. I won’t recognize my neighborhood in another year or two or less. Oh, I forgot to mention the trash all over the roads, both highways and two-lane, it's disgusting.
You REALLY need to do one on Morganton. I've lived here my entire life 40 years. I love it here. Nobody bothers us except family 😂. But we leave our car doors unlocked and everything. But we are near Hickory and that's a bad place. 😬
Yay Chapel Hill!!!!❤️❤️ We moved here 17 months ago from Utah. Love the people SO MUCH!!!! Beautiful state! If you’re interested in Chapel Hill but it’s too pricey look just south in Pittsboro. We have a chapel hill address but are in Chatham County. Property taxes are way less then in Orange County. More family friendly and still very safe. We also Loved Wake Forest (stayed there for a week when we visited). Wouldn’t mind moving there maybe when our kids get it middle school.
The one thing I love about North Carolina is the people are friendly and welcoming. I actually bought a five-bedroom 3400 square heated feet house for $105,000.00 and paid for it in 7 years in a great neighborhood.

NC is a gorgeous state...not sure how I feel about it as a whole. You ought to add rent prices, not all of us are wanting, can, or care to buy. XO Nick.
Rent is very reasonable in most places in NC. It's gonna get a bit higher around Raleigh or Charlotte, but even there it's still not gotten to the levels of places like NY or California. In some of the smaller towns though, it's very affordable.
Pinehurst is 2 hours from the mountains? Which mountains are those? I live in Apex and it takes 4 hours to drive to Asheville from here, if you go no more than 5 mph over the speed limit. I know there are mountains before you get to Asheville, but not within a 2 hour drive from Apex or, let alone, Pinehurst.
I watched this right after your one on the worst 10. Production question. Is it empirically and rationally true that the worst of the worst should be represented by dash cams and also true that the best of the best should be represented by press release photos?

If this guy lives there it must be prettey damn nice. My grand parents bought a house on top of Franklin Mountain at the very top in Frankin NC and it was amazing. Things grow like crazy there if you have a garden and you can forage for berrys and herbs in the forest. Great place to raise a family.
Hi, I love your North Carolina video. I wish I could move there. We are in our 60's and 70's, we have no interest in buying a home. How about safe places for seniors to rent?
We rent in Cary, NC a very nice townhouse for $2100. We moved just a little over 1 month ago. It was somewhat difficult to find a place for rent tough. So far we love it here.
BTW, I have already visited many towns in North Carolina and 100% agree with Nick. Cary, Apex, Holly Springs, Davidson, Chapel Hill and Morrisville are awesome. Relight is good, but it has some no so pretty parts. I also really liked Matthews and Cornelius.
I'm from Florida but currently living in Cary and I have to say I gasped at 10:19 when I saw that palm tree 😂 That's gotta be the number one thing I miss seeing!
I live in Holly Springs but I'm moving out to WIlson soon. I've lived in NC my whole life. Unfortunately the cost of living in Holly Springs and anywhere in the triangle area has absolutely skyrocketed and all the people like me who grew up in this county are getting pushed out--mostly by people moving from California and New York who have the money to buy the houses we can't afford anymore. It's extremely sad. North Carolina is my home but my heart is in Holly Springs and Raleigh as well as my family and friends. I just can't afford to live here anymore and I have to leave. It's also way too crowded now and crime is going up. It's definitely not the safest place anymore and I doubt it'll be the best place to raise a family anymore in a year or two. Overall though our state is lovely and we are very sweet people. We believe in manners and in showing kindness to our neighbors. No one is a stranger here and you can have a conversation with anyone. There are some hyper-religious communities that aren't so welcoming to those who are LGBTQ but this isn't the case in the cities especially Durham, Raleigh, and Asheville. I have a same sex partner and we were very happy together when we lived in RDU for a while. For the most part though people are very welcoming and most NC communities pride themselves in being warm and polite. Someone will always stop to help you if you break down on the side of the road.
If you want something like wake forest move to Franklinton NC it’s up and coming it’s only half hour to Raleigh and 10 min from wake forest and next to youngsville. Houses are still in the low 200’s.

The biggest thing I miss about Cary though is diversity. Cary and Morrisville attracted people from all around the world and it was so cool get to experience different cultures.

It's sad
This area will end up just like the places these people left. LA, San Fran, NY, etc..
I see apartments price in Raleigh compare to Florida. I will take Raleigh Anytime over Florida!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽 I’m moving to Raleigh in June.

North Carolina is a very beautiful state , I would consider to live there for the rest of my life
Hey Nick, did your car break down? You never made it to Western North Carolina, the beautiful Smoky Mountains, and cities like Asheville.
Asheville use to be a neat mountain town. Today we refer to it as Assville or Trashville. The woke socialist have taken over
Western NC is the jewel of NC as far as I am concerned. Especially in the tri state area touching the North Georgia and Tennessee lines all the mountains go straight up to the Blue ridge parkway and smoky mountains. Less cities mostly woods and mountains and lakes.
I live in Bryson City
Wish we could move there but we have little ones and want more around for them
Born and raised in North Carolina.
Congratulations 🎉
There are lots of great towns and cities in North Carolina he didn’t mention
Durham does have the 11'8" bridge. It's hard to beat for entertainment.
I'm planning to move to Winston-Salem. How good it is?

I recently moved to New Bern to be closer to my son (who is in Oriental) after living for the last 34 years between Wilmington and Leland. I have to say that I LOVE NEW BERN!
Clayton, should be on the list. Home prices are much cheaper, schools are great, and it's less than 30 minutes to Raleigh.
Other than Cary, I would not live in any of these cities for soo many reasons. Seriously, how about getting west of the triangle? I live in Cherokee County and wouldn't move from here if you paid me. Murphy NC, come visit one day!
Silly, don't you know NC ends at Asheville!
