    I was born and raised and lived in Ohio. I have traveled a lot in my life. In 2004, a year before I retired, I took a trip along the Atlantic coast from Cape May NJ to Florida, and back. From the very first day I set foot in North Carolina, I knew that this is where I wanted to spend the rest of my life. People here are just plain nicer and warmer and friendlier than any place I've been in the USA. After 20 years I am still 100% sold on North Carolina. This video is kind of a hit job. I live in the Dismal Swamp on the Intercoastal Waterway, and the mosquitos here are no worse here than they were in Ohio, and the cost of living here is less than in Virginia.

      Im DESPRATELY hoping to move to NC so bad, from Florida. This state is like the balance of so many things, it definetly has its own glaring issues (but every state does, we have to pick or poison i guess) and the issues the state has are like lesser versions of Florida's issues.

    It took awhile, but NC has grown on me since coming from Germany in 1999. I love the fact that we have everything here. Beaches, mountains, our major cities like Raleigh and Charlotte. Plus, I’m a nightshift worker. So I don’t have to put up with that traffic.

    Durham’s might be the best example of a mess people out of state get themselves into. Half a million, one block over from NCCU, 2 blocks form government housing and a 30 year history well above the national averages gang violence, drugs and prostitution. Schools you may not want your children attending. Raleigh, Greensboro, Charlotte, Asheville, pretty much all the urban areas in NC are doing the exact same thing. Selling half a million dollar homes to none locals in the ghetto and not disclosing key information about safety because they don’t have to legally and just basically ripping people off

They are making up all types of excuses in not wanting to train after I paid for an assisted living administrator course which was 750.00. I'm having trouble with my instructor not wanting to train me and she is a assisted living administrator she tries to charge her students extra money and not supposed to sounds like a scam.

So many Floridiots have moved to the nice mountain towns and alot of the NEiner SNOBS . The local people do not like Half backs from FLA or NY, NJ , MASS , RI , NH and now CALIFORNIA , which is driving the prices Sky High , Same here in FLOR-Dah , now that houising is so expensive the younger people can't afford a home .

      Honestly they’re not bad…
      The state tax rate is 4.75% w/ a max local rate of 2.75%. That translates to a 7.25% sales tax in Raleigh. Property taxes are about 1% of assessed value. We have a gas tax that’s not as compatible as some of our neighbors and NC does make you pay tax on your car, boat, trailer, etc every year based on the assessed value which kinda stinks. @ThatsRaleigh  Год назад

      Prices have pulled back here in Raleigh a bit as higher rates have lessened the demand. I think Raleigh will see modest appreciation in the next couple years, but that all depends on how far the FED has to increase the FED funds rate to cool off inflation.
      Most of the states or regional areas with the fastest growth rates are going to get crushed so there will be some good deals out there imo!

    • @luperamos7307
      @luperamos7307 Год назад

      @@ThatsRaleigh But isn't Raleigh and NC part of those regions with super high growth rates and would therefore get crushed? Obviously the flushed the market with money and bought mortgage backed securities etc. But the supply remains low and therefore it seems that there are enough people who have the money to pay for these houses. It's obviously a frustrating time to be a buyer and I'm not sure if I should just wait another year. But buyers could even get more priced out.

    • @ThatsRaleigh
      @ThatsRaleigh  Год назад

      @@luperamos7307 yes, I totally understand! Without trying to favorite Raleigh or anything I would tell you that when you read stats on Raleigh it generally refers to the Raleigh metro area which includes the Raleigh suburbs. Some of theses areas saw more price growth than Raleigh because they still have land to develop, but are much smaller than Raleigh. All of the suburbs came about as a result of the success of the research triangle park (RTP), which is the engine that drives both the Raleigh-Cary Metro and the Durham-Capel Hill Metro and is positioned in between them.
      I’m telling you this because this is what brings people here and leads to a population increase and salaries. So there is a real catalyst in place and our housing inventory was at historic lows when rates increased and we are still at very low levels. So we just don’t have tons of new construction sitting idle and I think builders will be cautious not to add excess inventory until they know what the FED is going to do w/ Rates to control inflation.
      Right now your monthly payment will be higher, but your risk is minimal compared to before when you were competing with 20-30 other buyers for a property. Hope this helps!

    Thank you for that video. I'm highly disappointed living here. You might want to do a new video to include crime and inability to employ carpenters and/or the exorbitant amount of money needed to rebuild, make changes or add additions to your house once you get here. The hourly wage is ridiculous and the workers are often "no-show" and expect deposits and run with your money. There are no consequences do make sure you have a bonafide contact signed with ET of completion. The Mexicans with no licenses and are learning to build as they go on YOUR house want too much money. If you go with a set price, they put you off while they go with on other homes. Best to pay for the materials yourself, as you go along, and just ask for a total figure price. However expect the bill to be 3-4 times as much out is worth compared to the time it takes multiple by the hourly wage. They do not line up. Bottom line: unless you are pretty handy you will be getting ripped off one way or the other. There is not enough competition here in New Bern. A lot of retirees coming here living on fixed income. Contractors in Carpenters think you have money if you are retired. Nothing could be further than the truth from that! Yes I'm from the north, and the pace here is like a turtle which is excruciating. I have painted, wallpapered, put up backsplash and replaced tiles in my kitchen. Although I've done a really good job I'm so frustrated because I do need help. You just can't get people to come because their small jobs and you can't get them at a decent price. Nice people yes but not really. They smile as they rip you off and they laugh all the way to the bank. So no thank you. The weather is nice but I can't wait to move up north again. In fact I may give up owning a house has become a renter again. However this time I can rent out my house which hole pay for my apartment and then some, all the while increasing the value of the home. Southern hospitality is a dying image. Before coronavirus, buying a house in North Carolina was a good financial move. Not now though. Retirees are better off in Florida. I'll take the ocean any day over the lakes in the rivers that are filled with bugs. The only thing I like in North Carolina so far is Wilmington and the outer Banks. If you want to live like a turtle, come on down. Unless you have a boat to get out of the heat and the bugs, it's no picnic here.

Is that truly the attitude of local North Carolinians? I just want to move my children AWAY from the awful place we live in now, and TO somewhere they will thrive (besides, we have family in NC). We want to live in a more rural area, not in the cities. Will we be discriminated against just for being from out-of-state? Honest question.

      No, you will be just fine moving here. I moved here in 1998 with my 2 small children from CA. and 25 years later we are all still here. I was a native Californian that grew up in a very small town. It too changed over the years and no Californian was "unwelcoming" as a result. This is life and all things eventually change. Forget all the gloom and doom posts about living here. It's a wonderful place to raise a family and most beautiful to boot. I don't even notice the bugs or humidity anymore. I love the slower pace and friendly hospitality we all grant one another as a way of living here. Best decision I ever made.

      It completely depends on where you move and how many people have moved there in the past 10 years. My small town for instance so many people have moved here that when I get sick and call the doctor in July they tell me march is the earliest app. The locals here are super close to hating people that move here. I stopped to get gas yesterday on my way to an appointment I had to keep and I waited in line to pay for 1 hour because there were so many retirees buying lottery tickets. My town wasn't designed for so many people and is completely overwhelmed in every way. Its hard to not get bitter when the people (who are mostly northerners) that have moved here don't care that they are making your life harder. They don't care about your culture and are actively trying to take over and change everything about your home to the way their's was. I know not everyone who moves here is like this but enough of them are that it changes things.This is not everywhere though you could absolutely move here and be happy just if its a small town check to see how many have moved before you lol.

    I do regret moving in NC because the job market in the medical field is getting real bad. The facilities mistreat some people from different states. The people here do not welcome outsiders from Louisiana. I'm from the South just like these people are. But they don't care they just bully, mistreat, talk bad to you, no respect at all when working at medical facilities. The schedulers booted me out and not accepting none of my shifts. I work through a medical agencies and I pick up shifts at facilities but they reject them and give them to their favorites. I need to live and eat too. Again they don't care about outsiders. I don't like the bugs at all but I can deal with them. But paying such high cost for Orkin. That's an extra cost coming out my pocket? They can fire you for any reason is another problem and literally take your job from you. They said the people here has hospitality in their blood. That's not true at all!! They do not treat certain outsiders real bad and who wants to be around people who mistreats them for nothing. I have also respect and treated people with the upmost respect that's the way my parents raised me. If I knew this was going to occur towards me. I would have moved towards the Midwest or North where the people in Baltimore Maryland New Jersey will treat you better. Trust me I have experienced dealing with those people. I need to finish my bachelor's degree in psychology and when I graduate from college I'm moving away from NC and never turning back. Being a mixed race woman living here really sucks!!

    I lived and grew up in NC for over 30 years. I moved there and back 3 times as an adult. I have to say this, many of these videos refer to NC as being very conservative. They are sugar coating it. In NC the word backward applies. Prior to the civil war, NC was known as the "Rip Van Winkle" state. Reason: they are always 20 years behind everybody else. That's a historical fact. The place hasn't changed. In the cities there are a lot of folks from other parts of the world. These areas would seem very normal to most folks. But once you cross the city limits into the country side, Watch Out! You will start to here people use the "N" word when referring to black people. You will be ask loaded questions after you first meet someone like, "so what church do you go to?" As if it was any of their business. But that's NC, other people will make your life their business. If you don't measure up to their values, you will be outcast. These are some shallow people. Be ready for it.

      My husband and I are planning to move there from MN. We love southern charm! We are hard core conservatives! That's one of the reasons for leaving the north/MN. And, it's just getting worse and worse with the lack of morals, our taxes getting higher and higher (one of the highest taxed states) to pay for all the far left, immoral people coming to MN to be taken care of by our welfare system, while they complain about everything. And, the foreigners that are moving to the entire country are trying to bring their ways here... and that IS destroying our country. It's like, if that way doesn't work where they came from (a specific religious group-not saying who...), then why do they think it's going to work here?! So, I get what you're saying about not wanting people to bring their ways... but, we've got to get out of the north!

Now I work remotely on contract for a company in NC. 75% of the people I work with there do not have a southern accent. Oh and once you see your first Rhino Beetle you'll be moving. I would spend a week every year of my childhood at my grandparents in NC. They didn't have A/C. I visited during the Summer. It didn't seem to bother me then. At 60 now? Yeah, it would bother me.
