For the people that get screwed over the first part and get the (The user profile service failed the Login , user profile cannot be loaded) message, which happened to me btw, do these steps to fix it: 1. Restart your computer and as soon as your computer comes back on, repeatedly press the F8 button to get to the boot screen (Depends on you computer it could be another button, F8 worked on mine, google yours if it didnt work) 2. You will see an option called Safe Mode: With Networking, press that (Dont worry if your computer looks weird when you log it, its supposed to) 3. Once your in, see this guys video, the part where you go to your registery (regedit) and get to your Profile lists as he shows in the video 4. Remember when he said to switch the .bak from one of those 2 files to the other? switch them back to how they where before :) basically you will see two files with long names and the only difference will be the .bak in the end, delete the .bak from the first one (or second one) and place it on the second one (or the first one) 5. As he showed in the video, the one now after you did the last step WITHOUT the .bak, modify the refcount and stat to 0. 6. Restart and login normally 7. Like this comment, if this works to let me know I helped someone out by doing this As for the solution for the temporary profile? Still trying to figure it out myself, both parts of this video didnt work for me, not saying this guy is fake or ANYTHING like that, its just this solution doesn't work with all types of devices or with everyone
What is the "State" supposed to be? Cuz I saw lotsa people with 0, as is in this vid, but mine is 32768. Is it safe to change that to 0? Thanks in advance, and I hope you've fixed your issue by now.
Restart your pc. Somehow launch the start up repair( if you can’t search for it. It’s too easy) Wait for sometime and click recover. Restart and it solves.

+alwaysafix please answer my computer is messed up because of deleting .bak and I can't even get back in the that regedit now my computer doesn't work at all please help what can I do
First, you need to make sure that your hard drive is healthy. Your hard drive needs to be removed and connected to another computer via a usb adaptor, so that you can back up your data first and foremost and then run disk diagnostics to make sure your disk is 100% healthy. If the disk passes disk diagnostics, I suggest you run factory restore and then reinstall your data. Good luck.
That was one of the best solution for my problem. We kind of new to AD and some times take 4 to 5 hrs to restore the client profile to original. This way is SUPERB, easy fast. THANKS a million.
Thank you so much! The first solution worked for me without being logged on safe mode. May I ask how did this problem happen in the first place? It's pretty spooky when I first saw it.
Thank you sir, your video helped. I found the .bak registry key and removed the .bak from it, along with the other options you said and it worked. Thanks!
i've had a temporary profile in my main account for a few months and i just wanna know if this will also restore my data and files when i perform it. will it?
Perfect fix thank you very much!! This should be shared around a lot more, there are several plans for fixing this problem that are way out of whack!! Only thing is, the "changing RefCount and State values to 0" doesn't seem to change anything, I went back in after and the values are the exact same as they were before...
After fixing the Profile from being in Temporary Profile Mode from the Profile Crash though, it would no longer delete the things inside it, when logging off, turning off the Computer, or restarting the Computer, etc.. Right?
So I followed the comment to get back in, in safe mode, did what commented said. Restarted and still no recovery! WTH?? I could see my old desktop in safe mode but not after process and restart. Help!
Is mine completely corrupted? I can't seem to find it in C Drive/Users and when I go to regedit it just shows the .bak version only... It used to show the other one but then I restarted the laptop because that did not work... I'm so confused lol
Those who are having logon failure restart system in safe mode using cmd type regedit and reverse what all you have done previously and your system will come to state as it was before watching video.
i tried this and it did not work and now I'm at a challenging situation. alwaysafix if you can please see if you have any suggestions, it would mean the world to me. I tried addressing the registry using "regedit" to go into the "Profile List" and remove the .bak from the original profile and rename the temporary profile with the .bak. After I set the "State" to "0" and the "RefCount" to "0", I restarted to see if it recovered my Profile but it didn't work. Then I tried a "System Restore" and I successfully restored to earlier that day BUT the settings of the Temporary Profile were kept. I was no longer using a Temporary Profile but the settings and Profile was still blank as if it was a temporary. As of now, I can see in my "D: Drive" that my old Desktop and its data is still there, but the one that is showing is the one that showed up as a temporary desktop. All my settings are gone in Google Chrome, my Start Screen, My Desktop Background, and Taskbar etc. Is there a way to fix the registry so it shows the original Desktop instead of the "Temporary" desktop? If I look into my "D: Drive" and inside the "Desktop" folder, all my original shortcuts and files are there. I just need to make the original profile visible and load the original desktop instead of this Temporary Desktop. I was thinking maybe undo-ing the System restore as I am no longer loading a temporary profile but the temporary profile settings are still showing up. I find that risky and look to you for any registry know-how that may solve this issue?
This message started coming out in the screen. I can't log in "unauthorized change was made to windows. Windows has discovered a change that will result a limited windows functionality " can you help please
Hi. I done everything like on yout tutorial and now I cannot go into Windows... It says that User account cannot be upload... I think the problem is when I typed O (zero) in State... Because i tried multiple times without that and it kepp logged me into temporary account... Now when i turn on the computer im not able to go to desktop becasu Sign in User profile is rejected...
I've done the second method and im using a new account now. I've transferred all files. But my google chrome bookmarks are gone.. Any way to recover them? Also right click mouse kinda has a 5 second delay
Hi, thanks for the tip. A couple of questions though: 1) Can I delete the .bak registry entry afterwards IF this procedure works? 2) Should I do this procedure in Safe Mode regardless if I get the message that the User Profile Service failed? Thanks in advance.
Oh my God...... thanks a lot!! It's been days and I'm getting desperate in finding way to fix this problem. Thank you so much!! Btw what probably caused this problem?? Is it because my Windows isn't installed perfectly? Is it safe to do these steps over again if (hopefully not) this happens in the future?? Thanks. Again.
Do I need to be on safe mode for method one? I did it on safe mode and when i log off, my files were back but I was still in safe mode. So I restarted, but then the problem comes back.
@alwaysafix Thank you so so much for this video, I still cannot believe that I managed to get my profile back. I thought I had lost everything and got very upset about it. Then I decided to give your video a try on RUclips and I am so releived.. I can breathe again haha..
I have tried doing this an even when I create a new profile it says preparing desktop any insight on this and another thing when I go into safe mode it will show my profile an all contents
After this step you'll failed to login your profile, you'll need to: 1. restart your pc and hit repeat f8 button 2. select Safemode 3. go to regedit and follow these steps again 4. HKLM - Software - Microsoft - Windows NT - CurrentVersion - ProfileList 5. Reverse the extension ".bak" for those two folders, like the steps shown here 6. Now your done in renaming, click the folder without ".bak" 7. Select and double click RefCount and set the Value "0" 8. Select and double click state and set the Value "0" 9. Restart your laptop/PC and problem solved. Note: Do this step in Safemode. Hope these will help.
Um so I tried doing the .bak thing when I restarted my computer it didn't work, I checked the regedit and then checked the profiles and the .bak was the temp file and there was no file to my actual file of my .bak with my old profile, is there anyway to get it back??? Please help
hello this has happened to me yesterday :( I will try your first method because i don't feel like copying all the data because i might miss some data by accident so i will try avoid the 'create new user'method if i can
If you create a new user, your files from previous users will not be affected, only if you run a factory restore can you lose your data. Thanks for watching.
alwaysafix Thank you for providing a meaningful video. However, I don't know why I have followed your second method, the computer doesn't allow me to enter user2. It keeps forcing me to log in with the original user, I can't manage to make another user to restore my original desktop setting. Is my computer getting totally out of order? Looking forward to your reply.
Hello my friend . I would like to thank you very much for your help. I also would like to ask you something about my situation. I did all the steps you showed but in the final step i found 3 .bak files. From those 3 , the two of them had the copy files which i renamed as you said. The third one , the one with no copy file , i left it as it was. The problem solved but i would like to know if i should do anything else. Thank you again.

i've had a temporary profile in my main account for a few months and i just wanna know if this will also restore my data and files when i perform it. will it?
No.. It is not possible
Perfect fix thank you very much!! This should be shared around a lot more, there are several plans for fixing this problem that are way out of whack!! Only thing is, the "changing RefCount and State values to 0" doesn't seem to change anything, I went back in after and the values are the exact same as they were before...
Glad this sorted out your problem. Thanks for watching.
Help!
thanks a tone..dude..it worked like charm.
you'r a life saver...
I am subscribing your channel right now..
+Rahul K Singh Happy days mate and on your fix. Happy New Year.
So from all those ppl u r the only one that worked with u fuck-off big time Fukuoka
Is mine completely corrupted? I can't seem to find it in C Drive/Users and when I go to regedit it just shows the .bak version only... It used to show the other one but then I restarted the laptop because that did not work... I'm so confused lol
Thank you. You are my hero. Everything's back to normal now.
Happy days mate and thanks for watching.
Do you consider also the step on pressing the key F8 repeatedly on restarting and going on safe mode.
My background is set to black and I cant change it after doing the first process. PLS HELP :(
Those who are having logon failure restart system in safe mode using cmd type regedit and reverse what all you have done previously and your system will come to state as it was before watching video.
When I try to switch the .bak, it doesn't allow me to rename the folders. Is there a way to fix this?
You may have problem in safe mode. At first I tried in safe mode and it doesn't work then I tried in normal mode now it's work.
i tried this and it did not work and now I'm at a challenging situation. alwaysafix if you can please see if you have any suggestions, it would mean the world to me.
Fantastic, first option itself solved perfectly. Hatsoff.
You are the greatest person to ever exist. Thank you!
Happy days, much appreciated and thanks for watching.
Thank you so much! ❤ The moment I regot the Original account My Heart started its beat again! Grateful! 💯
A couple of questions though:
1) Can I delete the .bak registry entry afterwards IF this procedure works?
2) Should I do this procedure in Safe Mode regardless if I get the message that the User Profile Service failed?
Thanks in advance.
Jose Lorico Do not delete the key after the fix and yes you can proceed in safe mode even with that message. Good luck!
Thanks. Again.
Unfortuantely there are too many reasons why this could of happened. Glad to hear your computer is back on the road and thanks for watching.
Happy days and glad to be of help. Thanks for watching.
I have tried doing this an even when I create a new profile it says preparing desktop any insight on this and another thing when I go into safe mode it will show my profile an all contents
After this step you'll failed to login your profile, you'll need to:
1. restart your pc and hit repeat f8 button
2. select Safemode
3. go to regedit and follow these steps again
4. HKLM - Software - Microsoft - Windows NT - CurrentVersion - ProfileList
5. Reverse the extension ".bak" for those two folders, like the steps shown here
6. Now your done in renaming, click the folder without ".bak"
7. Select and double click RefCount and set the Value "0"
8. Select and double click state and set the Value "0"
9. Restart your laptop/PC and problem solved.
Note: Do this step in Safemode.
Hope these will help.
i dont know but i am not able to see ref count pls reply
It doesnt let me run it saying server process could not be started because the configured identify is incorrect. Check the username and password
Um so I tried doing the .bak thing when I restarted my computer it didn't work, I checked the regedit and then checked the profiles and the .bak was the temp file and there was no file to my actual file of my .bak with my old profile, is there anyway to get it back??? Please help
hello this has happened to me yesterday :( I will try your first method because i don't feel like copying all the data because i might miss some data by accident so i will try avoid the 'create new user'method if i can
Dude, I was scared as hell when I saw my computer was set back to the way it was when I first got it.. Thank you so much for the help!😫❤️
Bhai meko bi smjh ni ara h yrr
In 2 min i fixed the problem,,just following your steps...loveeee uuu
Thank you very much, you helped me a lot, but if I opened this new user I deleted all my files on my computer? Thank you
If you create a new user, your files from previous users will not be affected, only if you run a factory restore can you lose your data. Thanks for watching.
Safe mode by f8 not working it says press esc for startup? What should I do?
I did it and now the pc doesn't boot and having the "Your pc ran into a problem.... Loop again and again"
The regedit does not work for me. I can view my files in safe mode. Should I change the regedit in safe mode?
I have a TOSHIBA and I just restarted the pc and it was fixed, I don't know if I was like or not but it worked :D
alwaysafix Thank you for providing a meaningful video. However, I don't know why I have followed your second method, the computer doesn't allow me to enter user2. It keeps forcing me to log in with the original user, I can't manage to make another user to restore my original desktop setting. Is my computer getting totally out of order? Looking forward to your reply.
Run a checkdisk to check that the hard disk is healthy. Good luck!
What if you don't have a .bak file in the users
Help please, "Error while deleting key." I can rename the .bak file, but i cannot delete the duplicate.
Your wizard guy saved my bacon
Hello my friend . I would like to thank you very much for your help. I also would like to ask you something about my situation. I did all the steps you showed but in the final step i found 3 .bak files. From those 3 , the two of them had the copy files which i renamed as you said. The third one , the one with no copy file , i left it as it was. The problem solved but i would like to know if i should do anything else. Thank you again.
