Hello Waldo, I don't speak English, I can only write this letter in English through a translation program. Unfortunately I don't understand you, but I really enjoy watching you work. Your handling of the tools, the welds, I am amazed. I wish you continued success with your projects.
One look at the thumbnail image confirmed that this was going to be something special! What a joy to see an interesting presenter whom is also a superb fabricator as he takes the viewers through his build process! I particularly appreciated your meticulously precise craftsmanship (okay, the taillight positioning apart!) and your expertise shines through as you make it all look so straightforward! Watching the headache rack come together was especially good, seeing the precision cut angles of the top bar align perfectly with the uprights! This really was a fabrication masterclasd, one which I've eagerly subscribed to and I look forward to seeing your back catalogue, particularly on this truck.
I used to work as a blacksmith and make these things. I live in Iran, but now I work with trucks and I changed my job. You are a great card and you have no words to be successful.👍👍👍👏👏👏❤❤❤👌
Waldo. When this is done you will be able to say with pride that YOU built this truck ! 95% alone in an open shop on a dirt floor ! Fantastic work ! We are on heat warning all week here, 112 plus for the next week, so , I will be watching videos. 🌞🌵
It is not a problem with the chop saw. Electric motors, for a split second, draw more power when starting. I don't know the circuit brakes in the US, but in EU we have some that are resistant to starting over draw. I think you can also buy an adapter that will give your tool a gradual start that might help with that.
they are awesome bits of kit, Andrew Camarata uses his a lot. I reckon it'd be a lot less messy if you didn't use the cutting fluid bottle and just squirted a little bit of oil or cutting fluid from an oil can or squeeze bottle during the drilling... just my two cents' worth!
Didn't read all the comments so this may already have been covered. When you overload a circuit breaker after a while it weakens, might be why it keeps tripping. Just a thought. Good job. I've done some fabrication over the years and really appreciate what you are doing.
Most likely the electricians ran 10/2 instead of 12/2 and put a 20 amp breaker on wire only engineered to handle a 15 amp breaker. It's a common shortcut with these mass produced homes that are falling apart before they are even sold. Saves a lot of money on wire. If they think they will get an inspector who would fail the final inspection, because it's against national code, they take a piece of 12/2 sleeve and slide it over the 10/2 wires so when it's visible from the breaker panel all the inspector can see is the yellow sleeve so they think it's good. Got to watch out for those contractors.
Brilliant job, and fun to watch. The gooseneck mount seems a be light for the trailer you have in mind. I kinda cringed when I saw the 6-8mm flat bar frame. I wonder if you reinforce it substantially in part two. Can’t wait to see both the trailer and and the truck hauling projects home. Nice one!
Very nice job. It is easy to overlook the effort that goes into making a video so that we can sit on our rears and appreciate the tinkering/design/fabrication. Thank you.
Waldo, that bed is coming out even better than I imagined it would. Don't get me wrong, I never had a doubt that you could pull it off but damn man you are killing it. Looking forward to the next part.

I’m working my way through this series and loving everyone of the videos. You’ve done an amazing job with every challenge you’ve tackled, Waldo’s world is now in my top 3 of RUclipsrs to fallow, absolutely fantastic content, long may it continue.
The magnetic drill I grew up with (think late 70's / early 80's), took 2 men & a boy, literally! 2 men to position it & a boy (me!) to flip the magnetic switch!! Love your videos & keep up the great work!
@@WaldosWorld It was... 3/4" chuck, base was 8" x 14" & weighed almost a 100lbs! My dad got it for free cause his employer (Kodak) was throwing it out. LOL! We never knew how old it was.
@@nou8257 We last used it 6 years ago this summer. It worked but after about10 holes on double frame rail we decided to get a newer one that is much lighter.
Definitely would recommend adding and extra attachment to the frame. Especially from shearing (side to side movement) in the middle or so. Even if you just use large U-Bolts, that’s how most flatbeds are mounted actually. But otherwise looks awesome! Fuel filler necks usually always cut on the C-channel as you did. Rarely have I seen us route them above.
Was going to make the same comment. If you think about how the load from the 5th wheel ball transfers to the truck frame,…the load goes from the ball, to the cross member, to the subframe, where it then goes all the way to the front and back of the subframe where it’s finally bolted to the truck frame. Not a good load path. If he added a connection from the subframe to the truck frame at the midpoint, that load path would be much more direct.
My 2012 3500HD was about $1400 and I built my own flatbed. I wanted a bed without rub rails and decided to build my own. I saved alot of money since the installation of a bed was about the cost of the steel to build a bed. Bed looks great.

Waldo, You are doing a great job. The only thing I might suggest is using louvers instead of round bars. I live out west and was amazed how cooler my 2 door cab was after installing a headache rack with louvers. I ordered my headache rack from Tumbleweed Manufacturing and they suggested I use louvers because I have a 2 door truck.
Your channel, just today, showed up as a recommend. Enjoyed it. If I might throw a couple of pennies in the till.. Someone recommended changing your breaker which is a good idea, as they do tend weaken over time especially under near constant heavy loads. Someone also mentioned extension cords. Most manufactures of welders, Plasma cutters and air compressors (the power trifecta) and the like don't recommend using extension cords. But, if you do, use the heaviest gauge wire you can reasonably get (greater than 12 Ga) and keep them as short as possible. It'll help somewhat but remember to add up the electrical loads (amps). A 20 amp breaker will hold for a little over 20 amps but you don't want them to ignite due to over-heating. That'll cause a whole different set of problems, if ya know what I mean. Cheers, and well done with the build.

Just came across your channel and nice job on your build! I’ve alway wanted to build my flatbed. You have some good pointers. Circuit breaker tripping: One thing I’ve learned over the years is if you keep tripping your breaker then you may need to replace your circuit breaker. Over time they get weak and trip easily under load. That might help with your breaker issue. Great video and new subscriber!
@@WaldosWorld could also be the length/gauge of the extension chord. I sometimes have that issue with my compressor if I don't plug it in directly to the outlet.
@@WaldosWorld And that’s just single phase, our three phase is 415! But it’s rare and expensive so used car hoists and welders are cheap because they need a three phase input.
A couple things I would do differently, I would install another fuel tank, I would do a bedliner on the deck and black paint on the rest, onboard air would be cool, some pin striping, internal tool box lights, lights in the head ache rack (bed lighting). Other than that it's perfect.
And either bring the gooseneck ball up to the deck or create a channel from the back of the bed to the ball it will be a pain jacking it up and down so much
glad to see this video up. I just bought another c3500hd. This one has a 6.5 tho and is 84 ca. I plan to put a flat bed on it. Will make a nice addition to my business to aid my mechanic truck the trust 02 c3500hd with the 8.1l
I’m wanting to build a step side looking dump bed on my 2000 Dodge Ram diesel, always liked looks of step side bed trucks, going to build out of plate and make the fender facing to where I can put the bushes let flares on and maybe the plastic inner fender in place too , probably use a Pierce dump bed kit , you gave me inspiration to make this my first project when I retire soon, this has been in my mind for sometime, your bed came out great, I need one of those circular saws too

Damn man just found your channel today. You have some amazing skills. You make the fabrication look insanely easy and man do you lay some extra clean welds. Nice work. I am going back to watch the truck build. Looks like a sweet rig. Thanks for the content.
It's coming together, nice work. If I may, take that coolant bottle and flood system and file it right in the trash. When I was at the weld shop, we just used a spray bottle(windex etc) with band saw coolant in it and spray onto the cutter. I don't see the need for a "flood" system. But yes, the mag drills are a real life saver for parts that are awkward for a drill press.
I share this with gmt400 groups. Love the work. I welded a half ton into weight limits unknown... this original 1 ton HD frame is my template to mimic.
Waldo, thanks for answering my question in the last video. My kids thought I was famous when they saw your screenshot of my question on the screen! I really like how high quality your build is coming together. Have you thought of reaching out to Deboss garage and meeting up with him? It would probably triple your subscribers!
Thanks, Carl! Yeah, I think appearing on Deboss Garage is a great idea. Maybe later this summer when the truck is ready and also if Canada ever decides to let people move around freely 😂
The headache bar as you so eloquently put it gives me a slight one. I believe you're gonna have to rethink the mounting of it if you want it to be secure. As it is now, anything hitting the top half of it will push it forward. It will simply bend the diamond plate upward and forward. The square tube portion of it should go below the deck and be connected to the bed frame or at least have thicker plates welded all-round to the bottom of the deck and the c-section. I love the look of it and I'm not disappointed with the videos nor the outcome of the truck so far, the lengths you go to just to make it your own is inspiring.
Another thing if you want, add bull horns on your head rack just in case you haul long beams, rebar, or a long ladder. Not sure if bull horns is the right term but you should understand what I mean. Awesome build! Another idea to move the bed removable. Use trailer hitch receiver tubes and hitch locks on the cheap.
Yeah, I was definitely thinking about adding some stubby little "horns" on top of the rack. Just big enough to prevent something from sliding off the side. It's funny you say that, because I bought a bunch of square tube to make some "legs" for the bed for just that: easy removal 😂👌
My dad has been fabricating for over 30 years, I’m pretty sure he would have a heart attack watching this video, but damn did it turn out looking good!
Very cool truck project and the bed looking good already. I'm waiting for to see it totally ready, it will become an awesome. It´s nice to watch how your working. You don´t have a big nice shop, you building outside or in a shed. You use quite simple and inventive methods. I really appreciate the way you do it. Just keep doing that.
To prevent the 'birdnest' being created when drilling, release pressure on the quill every 10 seconds or so. This prevents strings from building up during drilling.
My uncle built his own flatbed for his 99 dodge ram 3500. It looked great. I would love to build a flatbed bed for my truck project. However I want to do a factory looking box as well Oohh that's hot lol
"I built it myself." Music to my ears. Human? Yes. Silly? No. It looks fabulous. But, please still consider bedliner in lieu of paint; at least on the deck.
Great video, one tip on the mag drill is you don’t have to open the cutting fluid valve all the way. Just enough to keep it cool so it’s not smoking. This will save you on fluid and keep the mess down. I have used the mag drill horizontal and used a spray bottle with good success even…
To reinforce the 2" hole you made you should have drilled the hole a little larger and used a thick walled piece of pipe that is what I would do When I have to drill throug a beam for a cable pennatration on a ship I am required to put in a collar which has the same wall thickness as the thickness as the beam I am pennatrating
so what saw are you using. The only cold cut saw I have seen is the evolution, but you said you bought a cheap chinese one.. so how is the speed ok for a cold cut saw vs abrasive saw..
You don't know how they do the fuel filler neck on professional flat decks? They do it poorly, they phone it in all the time... Of the 3 flat decks I have bought in my life all 3 needed me to redo the fuel filler neck
That's interesting to hear! It really does seem like a hard problem to solve. I guess I'll see how mine does, but maybe I'll add a second filler neck that comes straight up through a door in the deck. If I have a load preventing access, I can always use the side filler as a backup 🤔
Amazing work! Perhaps consider adding some lights somewhere near your tail lamps to aid in hooking the trailer hitch up in the dark and a couple on the headache rack to help hooking the 5th wheel up in the dark. Again, you’ve turned a sow’s ear into a silk purse with the work done on the truck.
I think the most impressive thing about this video is the fact that he can get all that done outside. In Nebraska it's one of 4 things that make the entire day useless. 107 degrees -37 degrees 58 knot winds sustained Flies.
I know its an old video but I had to say I really enjoy your channel. If you are still having trouble with your chop saw tripping the breaker I'll make a suggestion. My Milwaukee chop saw did the same thing. The fix was a slow blow 20 amp breaker which are sometimes referred to as appliance circuit breakers. The breaker trips due to the sudden demand load the saw places on the circuit. The strange thing for me and I suspect you too is the breaker would not trip every time I used the saw. I located a slow trip breaker to replace the standard breaker in my shop electrical panel and that solved the problem.
Looks sweet man. Nice work. Your right. Why buy? Anybody can buy an automobile or trailer or smoker etc etc. But to make it yourself. Way better satisfaction.
Waldo I love your truck. It only needs 1 thing. Make filler pieces too connect front fender flairs too valance bumper area. It looks unfinished. Or just get different flairs

Just came across your channel and nice job on your build! I’ve alway wanted to build my flatbed. You have some good pointers.
Circuit breaker tripping:
One thing I’ve learned over the years is if you keep tripping your breaker then you may need to replace your circuit breaker. Over time they get weak and trip easily under load. That might help with your breaker issue.
Great video and new subscriber!
Thank you for the sub! Yeah, it's probably time to swap out the breaker 👍
@@WaldosWorld could also be the length/gauge of the extension chord. I sometimes have that issue with my compressor if I don't plug it in directly to the outlet.
I have found also that sometimes the wire loosens in the terminal block that overheats and trips it. Look at that first.
Amazing build. THose new tools really are doing the job. That Milwaukee hand help chop saw is pretty impressive. So glad we have 240V over here!!!
Thanks! Yeah, 240V is definitely nice to have! 🤠
And either bring the gooseneck ball up to the deck or create a channel from the back of the bed to the ball it will be a pain jacking it up and down so much
Very good, Great job. I love the fact that you speed up all you cuttings to lengthen the video and do your tutorial on how and what to do. N I C E.
Looks great so far, looking forward to part 2.
Thank you very much!
glad to see this video up. I just bought another c3500hd. This one has a 6.5 tho and is 84 ca. I plan to put a flat bed on it. Will make a nice addition to my business to aid my mechanic truck the trust 02 c3500hd with the 8.1l
Very nice, just like mine! 👌
N I’m n mom I’m
I’m wanting to build a step side looking dump bed on my 2000 Dodge Ram diesel, always liked looks of step side bed trucks, going to build out of plate and make the fender facing to where I can put the bushes let flares on and maybe the plastic inner fender in place too , probably use a Pierce dump bed kit , you gave me inspiration to make this my first project when I retire soon, this has been in my mind for sometime, your bed came out great, I need one of those circular saws too
You’ve done a really good job! I just finished building a flatbed dump for my pickup on my channel. Definitely not an easy task but definitely worth doing it yourself!
Thank you! Yep, definitely a good DIY project 👍
Good job Waldo great personality. You genuinely love what you do and you're very informative in how you share your skills.Your HUMILITY IS 100..BLEZZ#KEEP DA CHANGE
I regret hitting the like button so early, because then I couldn't upvote again when you gave Christian and Vera a shoutout. On the flip side I have two favourite channels now. Great content!
Thank you for the like and thanks again for the comment! 👍
Just about done with my flat bed for my bucket truck. Very similar to your build. Good times
Very cool! 👍
Amazing! Very inspiring you’re building my dream truck!
Oh nice! Great minds think alike? 🤔
I got a wrecker version of his truck with a jerr dan wrecker box with a 12v ppumped cummins and the factory nv4500 whoever swapped the engine in mine tho shouldn't have been swapping engines
I think the flat bed would look best as a flat black. to me it seems like that color bed would go good with a silver cab. also, Love the vide!!! keep up the awesome work!!!
Damn man just found your channel today. You have some amazing skills. You make the fabrication look insanely easy and man do you lay some extra clean welds. Nice work. I am going back to watch the truck build. Looks like a sweet rig. Thanks for the content.
Thank you! The welding machine does all the work 😂
You made it look so easy it’s insane
Wow, thanks!
Been waiting for this video and man it did not disappoint!! I really like the design of the bed and the mag drill :-)
Thank you, I'm glad to hear it! 🤠
When this project done you should build a 2 man tank . Maybe from an old skid steer or something.
There's an interesting idea! 👍
I share this with gmt400 groups. Love the work. I welded a half ton into weight limits unknown... this original 1 ton HD frame is my template to mimic.
Wow, thanks for sharing! 🤠
I honestly like the lights stacked on top of each other as the “mistake” but I really liked the very in-depth build of this flat bed!! Great work!!👍
Hurry up with the second video!! That was great!! You're quite skilled!
Thank you very much!
I just found your channel. This is a great build. I've built lots of beds and you're doing a great job. Im looking forward to seeing it finished!!
Thank you, I'm glad to hear it!
Cool, you can use pick up camper legs to lift the flatbed off the truck with no issues and build different bed for a another use
I would recommend a different outro song as it is copyrighted and you’ll have big issues with RUclips down the road. Great video tho
SMART ADVICE!!!
@@dontclickbait7106 wap
YES!!!! Stay far away from copyrighted material...
Generally, I believe RUclips fingerprints the audio upon upload and won't even post it if there's such an issue.
@@ProleDaddy no it will still post u just dont make any money all your revenue goes to the song creators/ copyright owners
This may be the best looking truck ever
My dad has been fabricating for over 30 years, I’m pretty sure he would have a heart attack watching this video, but damn did it turn out looking good!
Thanks, I think! 😬
Bed is looking great , a cheaper than buying a new bed . Great video .
Thank you!
This is so cool dude!
That gauge cluster dash is badass. Never seen that before.
I found him I FOUND WALDO MOMMMM
However I want to do a factory looking box as well
Oohh that's hot lol
Yeah, I hear you. There are a handful of these HDs that have had factory boxes custom installed and they look pretty cool 👌
New, Came though my recommend feed, looks good. Can't wait to see part two.
Thanks for watching!
I’m so happy I found this channel,, please hurry and get part 2 out✌️✌️
Thanks! I'm working on it 🤠
"I built it myself." Music to my ears. Human? Yes. Silly? No. It looks fabulous. But, please still consider bedliner in lieu of paint; at least on the deck.
Thanks for the suggestion! I was planning on painting the deck, but yeah, a bedliner might be better for a bunch of reasons 👍
I couldn't help but watch this! Great job!
Glad you enjoyed it!
The c channel past the frome over the top of the tire needs to be cut off, there should be mounts from flatbed to frame in line with gooseneck !
Yeah, I wonder how much clearance I need above the tires 🤔
Great video, one tip on the mag drill is you don’t have to open the cutting fluid valve all the way. Just enough to keep it cool so it’s not smoking. This will save you on fluid and keep the mess down. I have used the mag drill horizontal and used a spray bottle with good success even…
To reinforce the 2" hole you made you should have drilled the hole a little larger and used a thick walled piece of pipe that is what I would do
When I have to drill throug a beam for a cable pennatration on a ship I am required to put in a collar which has the same wall thickness as the thickness as the beam I am pennatrating
That's a good idea, thanks for the tip!
I really enjoy your videos. You make things easy to understand.
It’s going to be depressing when this build is complete……no more videos!!!
I'm sure I'll be moving on to the next project, whatever it is 😉
so what saw are you using. The only cold cut saw I have seen is the evolution, but you said you bought a cheap chinese one.. so how is the speed ok for a cold cut saw vs abrasive saw..
Man I love that Evolution Drill. Its just EPIC drill
Thanks! Yeah the rear hitch might be a little tricky to see in the dark. The headache rack will have some work lights so that'll be nice 👌
It's the live free or die that got my vote
I think the most impressive thing about this video is the fact that he can get all that done outside. In Nebraska it's one of 4 things that make the entire day useless.
107 degrees
-37 degrees
58 knot winds sustained
Flies.
Keep getting better and better great work man
Thank you! 👍
Looks sweet man. Nice work. Your right. Why buy? Anybody can buy an automobile or trailer or smoker etc etc. But to make it yourself. Way better satisfaction.
Very true! Making things is awesome 👍
Waldo I love your truck. It only needs 1 thing. Make filler pieces too connect front fender flairs too valance bumper area. It looks unfinished. Or just get different flairs
Thanks! I actually have those pieces, but I just haven't installed them yet. I should probably get on that 😂
Nice I figured you would not overlook it. You deff are making me wanna do a cummins swap in a Obs.
I am so glad I found this channel! So informative and entertaining!!!
