I built my barndominion pretty much by myself also. 4 1/2 years later I’m finished. A person gets such satisfaction. The key is to have a dream and a daily goal. Lots of hours but well worth it. Looks like my style of build.
Took me a few years as well but worth every minute
I loved watching this from start to finish. I would be extremely grateful to have the opportunity to build something like this for my family and self one day. I’ll get there!
You’re gonna love what you come up with!
you and your wife are so focused and on a mission. I love the simplicity of the design as well.
thanks for that! yeah, I couldn't have done it without her help for sure
Amazing, A garage door on both sides would have been my only recommendation.
After using it for a while I completely see your point! Access through one door is a pain ... good point man
Or are least a small 8x8
Unbelievable editing , your story is really down to earth , what you show me on u tube , I am in awe we need more people like you , down to earth with a pinch of salt , wishing you the very Best .
First comment I've seen on this video, and ya put a big smile on my face. thanks for that! Much appreciated buddy
👍👍👍😃@@metaspencer
I've been looking at container garage video's over and over with no satisfaction at all and this is the best one yet.
This is exactly the one I've been looking for.
Thank You,
Jim L
PS Your just kidding about the CAD plans right???
Good to hear it! Yeah I’m pretty happy with the building even if there never were any plans
First time watching your channel! I just finished my second terrace and all by myself first one in concrete and wood and the second one all metal all details welded by me. Your video reminded me of how much fun was and how hard is handling plywood by yourself. Enjoy your work with the family , I’m a new subscriber.
Those projects you've been doing sound great. And welded! Excellent stuff
Very detailed Auto-cad drawings....i about choked to death on that 1. Glad i was just taking a drink and not chewing on something 😂😂😂
Haha good to hear :) cardboard aided design
@@metaspencer ah. Now I get it. Even funnier 🤣
Really cool video great job
Thanks for checking it out
Outstanding 👌🏿
Well done 👊🏿
That was great to go back over the entire build. It is an awesome space. Thanks for sharing.
Good to hear! I wasn't sure how it would work as a video but seems to hold together okay
AutoCAD drawing 😂. Great build and video
WOW! what an accomplishment! Great Job. I'm a retired contractor, and I really liked the compressed version of your build. I followed much of how and why you did it the way you did. I hope one day, I can do the same. You certainly don't need a gym membership when you build homes. You should be very proud of your new home. Congrats!
Dave
thanks for that. it was a lot of work AND a workout ... fun every day for sure
Very talended
I was stoked when I saw this video come out, great vision and great knowledge to make it happen! I didn't see the clean up crew in this video, they must only be on the tree jobs. Badass Spencer!
It's funny how it is: when there's work to be done the cleanup crew always calls in sick :)
Hugely impressed!
Big thanks! It's been a fun one for sure
Awesome
I remember, the ground crew did help you out quite a bit on this one. 😁 And it turned out looking great. I hope y'all get many years of memories in this barn. Y'all take care and may Father YHVH bless y'all, brother.
I definitely couldn't have done it without the help -- you said it. Thanks for that encouragement my friend! :)
What an awesome project and job. I've been watching this since the beginning and super grateful that you've shown us what and how you did this. My hats are off to you! Thanks a bunch!
Watching since the beginning! that's so cool. thanks for following along :)
Mighty fine job!!!!!! God Bless!!!!!!!
big thanks!
Great Job Spencer.....now you can enjoy the space for all those up and coming projects, take it easy my friend and see you on the next vid, and of course not forgetting Melissa.
You said it -- nice to have the space! :) thanks for the comment
That’s an awesome build!!! I love it!!! I want one!!!
I think you may need to build one my friend:)
There were difficult moments, but finishing it was emotional.
Brother, you are really awesome.💯
You said it man. Hard and wonderful all at the same time ;)
Wow wow wow!
Good job that is smart use of containers
Thanks for checking it out
Great build. Go to show what hard work can accomplish.
Big thanks!
What a team 🎉❣️ You guys amaze me! Such an impressive build❣️🥳😎
Little by little, we got there!
What a beautiful build
Thanks for that!
Great build and is detailed and it's awesome. thank you
Thanks for that! yeah, I had a lot of fun with the project
Badass bro.
Thanks man
EXCELLENT JOB.
incredible......
Wow really enjoyed your journey!! I am looking into homes like this for myself and wife. Great work looking to watch more!!
thanks for checking it out and good luck with the build
Seriously impressive Spencer! ❤
thanks for that!
So impressive to watch! You have many skills brother☝️
STAY SAFE
Stihl Born! good hearing from ya man ... yer a legend!
Mighty impressive!!
thanks for that! ;)
Amazing job you’re really a very hard worker
Thanks for that … nothing better than work
@@metaspencerif you don't mind how much $ are you into it - your labor? I'm getting ready to move from Seattle to Idaho and I like this design maybe a couple more 40' containers? But just say your design?
@@brentprobizanski7029 I don't really save receipts but I'm guessing over $20k ... I lived in Seattle in the '90s and think you're gonna love Idaho haha!
great build..👍
thanks for that!
High tech engineering, I love it! The end result is pretty impressive. Oh, and I’m sure you already know, but Melissa is definitely a keeper. Another great video!
she's taken bro calm down
I couldn't have done it without her help, that's for sure! thanks for checking it out
LOL
what a project! I have dreams of making a timber frame with logs from my projects
sounds like it's gonna be a great building!
Looks great, finished very nice. I'm working on plans for almost exact same layout.
But I'm thinking two container high (if I can make it work) and windows on the stub wall just below the top roof junction.
Oh wow that sounds awesome! Will be a great space. I’d love to see a pic when it’s done
Nice build ! Only thing I didn't see was sill seal or a separation from the treated sill and the roof of the box
Yep didn’t run the seal there … and I’ve even got a few leftover rolls! Haha
Spencer you did a great job 👏 very nice ✊️
Thanks buddy!
I’m thinking about doing something like that. Definitely those autocad drawing lol
That was an awesome build!
Thanks for checking it out!
Great job!
Big thanks!
❤❤❤Job well done. Amazing barn that you built. Greetings Dirk Belgium
Thanks buddy!
Sorry I missed the last 2 minutes of the video but it is the best how to video that I have ever seen
hahahhahaha ya got me on that one! thanks for checking it out :)
@@metaspencer lol
This was a great build. Definitely will do one🗣️
Thanks for checking it out
1/3 in. Love your editing. Earned a sub👍
excellent! great to hear
yeah!! a buster combo barn build onezie. 😀
hahaha I like how you put that!
This is top tier badassery.
That's what I'm talkin' about :) Thanks man
Nice job !!!!
Thanks! it's been a fun one
Amazing job
Thanks for that!
Solid work mate.
Big thanks! It’s been fun
So awesome!
I was starting to get a little impressed with your DIY skills but when you built the stairs, Whoa..lol
Great job and beyond custom! 1 Man Army!
A guy has gotta have stairs :) Thanks for that man. Much appreciated
(actually, the barn cats mainly use the stairs)
@@metaspencer 😆
That is huge to have a partner willing to help out like that
You bet!!
that's a neat way to put trusses up.
We were glad it worked out!
So super cool.
Great work sir!
Thanks man
@@metaspencer I’m just not sure I could get around all the cad drawings to complete the project. Just too expensive. Lol
I see everyone always does a great job of rust treatment on containers but I have a question. Some of those containers have been on ships and docks for years and years just sitting in puddles of sea water. I would think the very bottom is very rusted. Or are they treated better for that purpose when they r made? If container homes go bad is this the main reason(the bottoms)?
For a home I’d likely use a new container… they’re made of Corten steel so the rust is always productively arrested
Awesome! 👍👍
Amazing video my friend . Greeting from Illinois
Thanks for that! We lived in IL for about 15 years ... good stuff
What a great build. Wish I had the know how!
Thanks for checking it out!
Bravo!
Big thanks!
I'm going to need those CAD PRINTS please 😂 but really about to build and I think I like this idea thx
Cardboard aided design haha you’re gonna love how it comes together
Legend! Well done! Great video! Thanks for sharing!
thanks for checking it out!
Perfect
Your CAD drawings are on par with my CAD drawings
The precision of cardboard is unmatched
Cool......
Pretty cool seeing a very familiar concrete truck, howdy neighbor
Someone else from the fingerlakes! good to hear from ya!
What size garage door did you use 10'×10' Great video
10' high and 12' wide ... works so far for my trucks and tractors
How’s the insulation on the shipping container inter walls of the inside building does that hold a lot of coldness or take longer to warm up?
Works perfectly in all seasons. The boxes act as insulated breaks for the building though they’re hot or cold inside them
Why not poor one large concrete base/foundation at the start and put the containers on concrete?
Frost heave would likely shift the slab. Instead they rest on piers below frost line
God damn legend, what a build! :)
Thanks for that!
Good work bro
Thanks man. I’m pretty happy with it
How much did this amazing shop cost to build
I'm thinking I've got at least $20k in the thing, but I'm not a big "save the receipts!" kind of guy
Hey Spencer I thought that this was pretty bad ass! If I could get a copy of your plans I would appreciate it! I think I'm going to do this on my property.
Thanks for that! I was joking about the plans ... there were none :)
@@metaspencer haha Nice I love it. I was trying to save myself some time.
Nice Long Board
thanks buddy ... yeah it worked out
Comment to bump you in the algorithm.
Much appreciated!
Kia Ora & Good Evening from Caribbean Drive, Unsworth Heights, North Shore, Auckland, New Zealand ... Another Great Video Bro…
Woohoo! Great hearing from ya!
Looks great, how long did this take to build? It also looks like you got a new truck in the process ?!
2+ years working free weekends and evenings - 2 “new” trucks over that span haha but the 1990 Chevy is still going strong
Very cool!
Why not add more windows for natural light? Or is this more of a storage shed?
Once winter rolled around and I had to keep the big door closed when working, I thought he same thing: more windows would be nice! good point
CAD is now forever cardboard aided drafting
haha you said it!
😂
Did the container cost bring down the overall as opposed to wood? Or would you rather have gone full wood frame with extra floor space?
Containers don’t necessarily save ya money but offer other benefits
Rain Collection to a Holding tank for irrigation
yeah that's my plan ... lots of water comes off that roof
I'd put doors leading to the containers too. Instead of going outside so that you can access the containers.
Oops spoke too soon
haha ... still a good idea! haha
It looks as though you done an excellent job and that you thought it out very well. How could I get a copy of the prints?
Thanks for checking out the project -- sorry, but I was joking about the prints. There weren't any
GREAT VIDEO! Couldn't watch the whole thing.
GOT TOO TIRED WATCHING!
Very creative attachments to your backhoe.
hey half a watch is better than none! much appreciated
couple of questions: How tall are your stem walls for the roof joists? Also, could you have a 20' high roller door on the end - to receive a large semi tractor? Thx
those walls are 4' making the ceiling about 13' or so, so that big 20' door wouldn't work ... when you build yours maybe you'll stack up two boxes on either side for that big rig to fit in there! sounds like a great building
Jesus! Look at all those union trademarks!
Do you have to get the home inspected? Do you need permits to build? I know it may vary by state
here it's considered an agricultural biulding ... you need to check with your local zoning laws
I want to know what type of permitting one has to get
And what the building is classified as
we just got a simple permit for the unit through out local town ... it depends on the zoning in your area
How did you handle permits. Most locations in ny want engineered drawings. Kind of stupid since only the trusses and spacing of them would be relevant
It’s an agricultural building in my area so no permit required
Spencer when does the School of Tree Learning open up i want to sign up as soon as possible
The curriculum is pretty straight forward: begins with ropes and ends with rakes :)
did you pour concrete right up to the metal skid
No I installed expansion strips between the two
What is the roll aluminum material under the roof metal?
reflectix -- supposed to help avoid condensation drips and provide some insulation
Curious as what is the fost line depth there for your footers. seems like it would be deeper and requite a bse plus footer....No trolling, looking to do something similar for wife and me
about 3' around here ... I probably should have dug deeper and bigger footers but seems to be working out
@@metaspencer Shit dude, I just posted that, caint believe you responded that quickly, must be monday You Tube Day, Thank you for that. I will follow a little closer and promise to keep comments civil....keep them coming. Want to build a Bardnominium upper northwest corner of Arkansas and MO close to the White River if possible
Yer gonna love that barndo!
Does this container barn requires building permit approval from local town ?
That depends on your zoning laws
Hey American you are impossible extremely hardworking! Im see the difference between people live style past in USSR and modern USA and i say living in US very hard. For comparison in China most modern generation have relaxed live style when crossing oucean by RUclips i observe people doing too much work by him self and soo many skills recruited from one person to handle. Here in China yang generation almost impossible to do such hard and complicated work even they educated in US universaty they can't keep hammer in their hand!
Interesting perspective! thanks for the ideas
