So brave!!! My cats sense the thunderstorms coming and seek cover, the 14 year old will slink across the floor into his hiding box before the first boom is heard and won't come out until about 15-20 minutes after the last one. He was about 10 when I adopted him and we were sitting on the couch when he kinda popped up in a scared way and slinked under the couch and hid. I was wondering what was wrong with him and a few minutes later the first thunder crashed and I figured out what his problem was. Now I know when Taffy randomly hides, we're about to have a thunderstorm.
My little girl was the same way. I would know at least an hour before there was a thunderstorm approaching cause all I would see flying across the living room on her way to the storeroom was just a black and white flash just-a whizzing by..vroom!! I always had a kind of shelter built up in the storeroom during the summer rains where she could go hide till the storm would pass and she'd come out about a half hour afterwards with this look as if to say.."what's up ma"..going to miss that this year, she passed away 8 months ago..
All things new make 🐈 cats so smart. Their curiosity is a blessing and a curse..my little furry babies are always teaching me something..I LOVE dogs too don't misunderstand, I just am drawn 💖 to cats..so many animals need homes and love and kindness like of like 2 legged creatures.
Through my biased lenses nothing fazes a cat much of the time. Their curiosity is piqued at the slightest movement or sound. However, loud noises like thunderclap do frighten them. My cat would hide under the bedcovers whenever there's a thunderstorm.
I had a Sam too, he didn't care much about fireworks, but thunderstorms were scary. We lost him to a tumour in the chest cavity the first monday this year 😭
My sam hated fireworks and thunder. I named her after the dog from I Am Legend because in my days of depression it felt like she was the only other living being in the world. Its no exaggeration to say that she saved my life.

GREAT!!! We had thunderstorms Friday night. Henriette (nearly 17) loves to watch them and has no fear at all! She also loves fireworks! A brave cat! Mathilde (15.5) is a coward cat! But together with "papa" on the couch, petting her, nothing can go wrong!

We had a Tortoiseshell cat who was petrified of thunderstorms & she would want to come straight in & hide behind the sofa or anywhere until the storm had passed over. Sadly she is no longer with us & I still miss her even now!
Until my cat got used to storms, she'd come and find me and start meowing, like she was asking me to make all the scary noise and flashes stop. I felt so bad I couldn't do anything but pet her and talk to her until the storm stopped. Now I swear she can sleep through anything!
Boy oh boy when those Florida storms come down in the late afternoon, they can be so intense. I love how Harvey became half meerkat. I was very impressed.

I remember when my cat witnessed her first thunderstorm. Poor thing was hiding under my bed for 2 hours afterwards... Now she's already 5 years old and during a thunderstorm nowadays she's just sitting lazily on the windowsill and thinks 'Yeah, whatever...' 😅😅

Hahaha, thank you. Such excellent kitties. Life can be filled with wonder and good things sometimes. With so much going on, it's easy to forget that sometimes. Gasp! It's wet! It's big and noisy! -- My cats sometimes look at me as if I have all the answers and can fix everything. That's so humbling. So much of the time, even as adults, we don't know quite what to do or we can't fix something and it's out of our control. We're not that much better off than kids or pets that way, sometimes. The faith they show in us, the love and trust, it's humbling and sweet. Of course, I'd love to be able to train them out of their bad habits, but then, I'd love to fix my own shortcomings too. Puts my late 90 lb dog to shame. Once he heard the rain he’d crawl under a table or desk if one of us was sitting there and almost wrap himself around our legs. If one or both were sitting on the couch he’d jump up and bury his head in a lap. Then there was our other dog, about 60 lbs, who would run outside the minute he heard thunder. He’d run to the middle of the lawn and bark at the sky like the weather was some huge personal insult. He’d understand the cats in this video.

They inherited that behavior from wolves I think. They would dig a den to protect themselves from weather. A survival mechanism.
