  • My last The Warning reaction seemed to go down alright and I gained a whole bunch of new viewers. So I simply had to listen to some 'More' 😜
    I decided to pick 'More' - their most recent single - simply because I want to see how they've progressed and their evolution. And I was impressed!

    They performed MORE live on MTV's VMA awards Extended Stage. They only showed a couple of clips of the two songs they did (MORE and EVOLVE) on the live broadcast, but they have released the full song videos on MTV's You Tube Channel. The performances were probably the best I have yet seen them do for each song. And they did it before a crowd that for the most part had never heard of them (only a few fans attended). Pau talks a lot and she talks fast. So, yeah, she dominates the interviews. Dany has a habit of starting to say something, the shifting her thoughts on a dime and going off on another tangent. However, she is the leader for the most part. Pau is a multitasker, so she keeps things organized on stage, and she controls the Ableton Live from her computer that sequences the show and plays the backing tracks and click track. She operates that from a foot switch. Ale is the one who keeps everything in sync musically. And she might be the behind the scenes leader of the band. She is the one who keeps track of where they are, where they should be, etc. They said she is the only one who seems to be able to read a map, for example. She comes off as quiet and reserved, but off stage she talks a lot and whenever she says something Dany and Pau pay attention because she is usually right. They have a great dynamic between them, and it adapts to every situation and they seems to take everything in stride because of it.

      Cheers dude! Great insight. Wondered where those backing tracks etc were being triggered from on a few other live performances I've seen from them, but now I know because of the Ableton sequencer 👍🤟

    The song was recorded with a wood block. The cowbell (Pau-bell) is on the kit here in this video, and is used when they play live. Check out the live version at MTV's VMA awards 2023 to see it for yourself.

    Finally! Melvin, you are the first reactor I’ve watched who mentioned the Super Black Holes connection in Dany’s main riff! They are huge fans. They wrote this to play while on tour with Muse and Royal Blood a few months ago. You also caught the blend of musical styles/genres. I think they’ve created a blend other acts are gonna try to emulate but they won’t because they don’t have the DPA secret ingredient…sibling magic. Great reaction!

    • @melvinthinks
      @melvinthinks  10 месяцев назад +2

      Surely I can't have been the first reactor to notice the Supermassive Black Hole similarity?!? It hit me within a few seconds 😁 Again, this is not a bad thing and they wear their influences on their sleeves which I love. Thanks for the kind words 🙏

      @@melvinthinks I’ve seen reference to Muse, of course, but not that guitar tone Dany is using related specifically to that song. Coincidentally, Dany did an IG story about that riff and played it. IMHO, their homage to Muse was intentional because they were going to tour with them and it was a great way to connect with their fans in the huge venues they played in.

    • @melvinthinks
      @melvinthinks  10 месяцев назад

I have never been in any doubt where they were going, I just hope that they keep the impetus up! Talking of which, they performed this at the MTV awards along with Evolve and had their best live performances ever, they absolutely blew their socks off 😂

    Easter Eggs!! this video is so full of Easter Eggs!
    there's everything from gifts from fans to actual situations that happened IRL at concerts... Dani's donut pillow, Ale's Bass guitar, the Dr. Simi dolls, Ale getting up off the carpet while playing, Ale's cable falling out of the More Box, and Petunia, their camcorder they use(d) everywhere, even makes an appearance...
    the best Easter Egg, though, is the video's screen ratio... it starts off at the old 4:3 and then steadily progresses to today's 16:9 as the video moves along... the screen ratio movement is a relentless expansion and might be seen as a metaphor of DPA/TW's upward trajectory in the industry... they are moving fast and are certainly not genre-locked 😹

      That's kind of what I really love about them. Sort of like when Oasis hit the scene in 1994. They played songs and you immediately thought "That sounds like T-Rex/Sex Pistols/The Beatles". But they still make it their own.

    • @ohTHATaaronbrown
      @ohTHATaaronbrown Месяц назад

      @@melvinthinks Me too. I love how The Warning approaches songcrafting. It makes me sad when bands try to "hide" their influences and claim "it's all us. it's ALL original". FFS, CELEBRATE what made you love music. Take everything that gave you this, and then make something of your own with it!
      I kind of think of artistic inspiration as another tool in the toolbox, to be brought out when it can make your creation better :)
      Every song by the Warning is unquestionably *A song by The Warning*. Their songs are instantly identifiable for those who know what to listen for. And they'l all also simultaneously remind those listeners who have a wide variety of listening history of many of the best parts of bands they've loved forever themselves.

    Looking through the list of artists you have reacted to, there is a band with a connection to some of them, I think you will really love: Halestorm
    Halestorm is a solid rock band, with plenty of fans, but somehow, they never got that 'viral' success moment that seems so important these days, despite their biggest hit having a whopping 92 mil views here on RUclips. So while they are surprisingly unknown to the general public, they are very highly regarded by their fellow artists, and they have links to some of the bands you already know.
    The Warning has recently toured with Halestorm as their opening act. During one show, Lzzy Hale (Halestorms frontwoman) gifted her Gibson guitar to Daniela.
    Lovebites named their group after Halestorms song Love Bites (So Do I). They love Halestorm and often played their songs during practice sessions when they were just getting started.
    Floor Jansen is a vocal goddess. During an interview, she was asked about other artists she would want to collaborate with if given the chance. Her answer was: Lzzy Hale.
    They don't have any bad songs, but for anything specific, I recommend - I Am The Fire, - I Miss The Misery or - Love Bites (So Do I)

    Have to disagree with you about Pau being the leader. Dany, as the big sister, is the leader of The Warning. She worked her tail off to earn that title. Pau is the architect/technical leader of this band. Dany is the one in interviews that gets the interviewer relaxed since Dany is so out going. Which makes the interview much better when the interviewer is not stiff. Then it's easy for Pau to pipe in Bout the band.
    Ale is still the shy one in interviews. She's starting to open up more. Answering questions. Dany & Pau have learned they have to allow Ale to speak instead of protecting their little sister. But Ale is the glue to this band. She keeps her big sisters grounded.

    • @melvinthinks
      @melvinthinks  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hey Kevin. You are probably right, but its just my perception from the number of interviews I've seen so far. I think they are all leaders in their own right which makes them some a cool and driven band 🤟

      I really have to question how shy Ale is - or is it more that she just isn't as hyperactive as her sisters in front of a microphone. Hard to get a word in edgewise but when she does, for that brief moment before she gets interrupted, she sounds totally confident.

  • @fruitbat4429

    Great reaction. Great song. And a really fun video.
    Okay, if you've been deep diving into The Warning you're probably aware that some fans don't like this one. Feel it's too poppy and that there's an element of calculation about it i.e. deliberately & cynically producing a radio friendly track. Well, personally I like it. A lot. Yes, it's differenet from anything TW has done before and yes, it has a poppy feel to it. But to me it still sounds like rock, but rock with a poppy edge to it. And IMHO it sounds much rockier live.
    It's also a song TW wrote with two outside song-writers, Anton Delost (who also produced the track) & Niko Rubio.
    Pau as the driving force behind The Warning? Agree & disagree with that. Agree 'cos almost all TW's songs start with Pau working out something on piano, and then Dany & Ale come in and work on the song as well. And Pau's drumming is an absolute force of nature! Disagree because TW is very much a team, Pau starts the songs but the final song is - with a few exceptions - a team effort with perspectives from all three sisters. And on stage their sound comes from all of them working, & contributing, together.
    And the song, as you say, is funky. Now TW have said the song is about wanting More from a relationship. Well, I personally feel it's about sex, "Fill my void, feed my senses, leave me begging for more." I especially get that impression from TW's VMAs live performance. And with a side order of a recurrent theme from TW, obsession "You like it when I'm broken."
    For a group which obviously has so much fun doing this, they go to some very dark places.

    • @fruitbat4429
      @fruitbat4429 10 месяцев назад

      Oh, and a PS about Pau needing to hit the JD & the ciggies. (Yes, I know that was tongue-in-cheek) Hmmm . . . very early on they did a cover of AC/DC's Back in Black. And it didn't really work. The musicianship was smokin' hot, but Pau was on lead vocals and her voice didn't really work with the song. It needed a voice which, as you suggest, had a lot of JD and at least 40 a day in it.
      On a slightly more serious note I think, like a lot of groups these days TW, will avoid the pitfalls of Rock n' Roll excess.

      Hey there and thanks for the comment. Like you, I don't think it's a bad song but can see why some hardcore fans may be a little incensed with the direction it went in. With regards to the lyrical content, I had a read after I'd made this video and I agree with you it's definitely a bit saucy, however, I also think they are being clever with the words and it may have other connections and associations outside of the obvious. Music companies/industry perhaps? That's my penny in the hat :-)
