    Barry, if you mount the front bolts of the pedaldeck to the bottom profile (not the upright that connects your wheel) you can then adjust the wheel back and forth without impacting the pedaldeck. I did this with mine.

    • @simracinggarage3026
      @simracinggarage3026  5 лет назад +1

      Yes, a very flexible cockpit. When the pedal deck is attached to the wheelbase uprights it does add some lateral stiffness to that section.

    Funny story I have on the SimLab wheel deck supporting the AF v2. It actually didn't when it was first listed. But the saga is quite comical looking back, first, UPS actually lost my P1. They went on vacation after sending out like 80 orders, where mine was the only one lost lol. They couldn't do anything because, vacation. After the reship, I find the wheel deck doesn't support the AF v2, so I start talking to them about that. They say they can drill some holes, and they'll ship it. Fast forward two weeks, I get the wheel deck, it's the same one again LOL. The holes don't match, so now at this point, I'm best friends with Darko, and he eventually got the wheel deck redesigned and into my hands. SimLabs has some of the best support I've ever seen, but this was the longest retail saga I've ever had. Cheers to those guys.

    You make great videos and love the detail you put into them. Motion platforms for me just don't work, I've tried some and for me doesn't bring the feeling of forces, it's just jerking you around. I've done competitive real racing in formula cars as a reference. Motion platforms like this you are testing, that just move the seat are the worst, because you keep moving around but the wheel is on the same position, so you arms are like stretching, braking also is very bad, you feel like you are gonna hit the wheel or something with your chest.
    This is just my honest opinion, I think it's very hard to replicate the violence of racing with the motion platforms, I really think however that shakers really do work and bring some immersion.

    • @peicheng1973
      @peicheng1973 5 лет назад +1

      Of course it's stretching. The wheel doesn't move, the seat does.

    • @timetodoitrace
      @timetodoitrace 5 лет назад +2

      falchulk yes but it will move, it’s not natural to me, when I do real racing I’m not moving away or to the side of the wheel, we use seats fitted to us so we are flush

    • @fetB
      @fetB 5 лет назад +2

      @falchulk in other words, severely limiting the motion range. When spending that cash, it would make more sense to get a tad stronger actuators and move the whole thing

    • @fetB
      @fetB 5 лет назад

      not saying it cant be fun or immersive, especially in contrast to no motion, but you said it yourself, the right tune means very limited range

    • @jairon_2518
      @jairon_2518 5 лет назад

      Ey! I see you are an expert. I'd like to ask you some things.
      As a little fan of this world simracing is, I got a G29 a year ago now and I've had much fun with it.
      Of course that's my budget's limit as a student, but at the future when I start working I'm sure one of my first purchases will be a Simracing set up: wheel, cockpit and monitor. I hope that's in a year or two.
      However I find the wheel bases a bit confusing since the price point of 500€. Many little offers and I'm not sure how much worth it are them for someone that would not use it more than probably 15-20h a week. I mean, we need to do other things for sure and have social life too haha
      So, what would be the scale of the expensive wheel in quality terms? What's the top reference in the consumer level (not professional)?
      It would my definitive set up. That one you say - I don't need to improve it as there's nothing better really worth it, at least for a while until tech improves!
      Thanks in advance and sorry for the English - I'm from Spain.

      Rapid_GT 99 I use a Sparco R100. I don’t think SimLabs ships seats to my country. The GT1 EVO is perfect. I think having 90 degree vertical wheel deck uprights is better then angled ones like the Team Redline chassis uses. Easier to attach more pieces of profile to for shifters and what not.

    Hey Barry, great video - very instructive. I'm on the verge of buying this cockpit but have a couple questions I was hoping you could help me with.
    1) I want to install the down piece of extrusion where the shifter mounts in order to have a more stable platform. Exactly what do I need to buy in order to do this? Does Sim Lab have the exact piece I'm looking for on their website?
    2) how would one mount the fanatec shifter 1.5 onto this rig? I noticed that the Sim Lab website has a "universal Fanatec shifter mount." Would I need to buy this?
    3) I'm thinking about just buying a seat from Sim Lab itself. Does this rig and/or the seat come with the mounting hardware needed to mount the seat? Such as brackets, bolts, etc?
    Thanks again for the great video. I'm looking forward to entering the world of 80/20 aluminum extrusions 😊

    • @simracinggarage3026
      @simracinggarage3026  5 лет назад +3

      1) One piece of 40x40 series profile at your required length. Four corner brackets with supporting fasteners. 2) You could use profile to make a mount, easier to buy the Sim-Lab one. 3) You will have to contact Sim-Lab for that information.

    Regarding to the leverage of this very long wheel/motor: Wouldn't it be possible to move the crossbar far more to the driver, then assemble the mounting plate on the opposite side of the crossbar so that the center point of the wheel (somewhere where the axis leaves the motor) is positioned more directly over the crossbar? Perhaps you have to drill new holes in the mounting plate because you have to mount the wheel 180 degrees rotated so that it points to the driver.

    I really like the looks of this rig but it doesn't look like there is much room to extend the pedals out further. I have fairly long legs. I am not sure how tall Barry is, but it looks like he has the pedals as far back as they can go. My 4Play cockpit is 1500mm long fully extended, and from what I can tell the GT1 is only 1350mm long. Also, pedal distance seems to be tied to the steering column. It'd be nice if it were attached to a separate support.

    • @simracinggarage3026
      @simracinggarage3026  5 лет назад +4

      I would go with the P1 for DBox. I would rather have the heavier profiles for a full chassis mover system. And the 40/160 base profiles are deep enough to mount the controller boxes with no interference with the seat or pedals. Sim-Lab has just come out with their own DBox mounting hardware that I will be reviewing shortly.

    • @Scott-lf6wl
      @Scott-lf6wl 5 лет назад

      You need to reinforce with crossmembers, but 40x80 (vs 40x160 of P1) is enough for D-Box like systems like the DIY SFX 100.

    I currently have a Playseat. It has served me well and gotten the job done for the past four years but I would like to upgrade it. Would you recommend a 80/20 rig like this over something that is more prebuilt. I did like the look of the Spenard cockpit you also reviewed

    • @simracinggarage3026
      @simracinggarage3026  5 лет назад +1

      An 80/20 cockpit has more versatility and room for future growth. Also easier to get a proper driving position dialed in. But they are not as nice looking as proper tube chassis setup. What with it's curves and geometric lines. You can still mod those types of cockpits, just takes more work and custom fabrication. So you have to decide which is more important I think.

    • @Cyrenetes
      @Cyrenetes 3 года назад

      The major factor for why I picked the GT1 EVO is because TR80 shipping with rig + plenty of accessories + seat was 330€ to Finland compared to 130 for Simlab. Dunno if the margins are that large in Scotland, but it's worth considering.

    • @simracinggarage3026
      @simracinggarage3026  5 лет назад +5

      It's not easy to get it perfectly square. I find that the bolts tend to pull it out of perfect square on the final torquing process. Seeing how the corner brackets are a true 90°, I just make sure both sides are flush with the profile and leave it at that. I haven't seen any ill effects from this result.

    Hi Barry, nice review as always. I was just wondering why the holes in the wheelplate are not symmetrical. More specifically: the outer holes on the right are much closer to the side than the ones on the left and of the four holes closest to the center of the plate, the left two are oblong, while the right two are round. Any idea why this is?

    • @simracinggarage3026
      @simracinggarage3026  5 лет назад

      I do not. But the Fanatec pattern and the Accuforce pattern are both centered on the plate. Did not try a logitech or Thrustmaster base with this plate. I will though. There are a lot of holes in this plate. Not sure why.

  • @MatthewRSimpson
    @MatthewRSimpson 5 лет назад

    Barry, would it not be possible to put the steering wheel mounting plate on the rear? This may give you an extra 5 or 6 inches and also less leverage to affect your steering flex.
    I ask because I am wanting to get the GT1 and already have the AF V2.

    • @simracinggarage3026
      @simracinggarage3026  5 лет назад +1

      Yes, after looking at the video, I think you could mount it on the front facing side of the cross profile piece. But you may need a shaft extension to get the wheel rim to clear that profile from the driver's perspective. This would also give you more leverage because of the length required. So, in the end, I don't know if it would flex any less. There are other ways to go about reinforcing the wheel mount on this cockpit I think. But it would require more profile and hardware to do it.

  • @acmarston
    @acmarston 4 года назад

    Would there be any kind of flex if you used the DD mount mounted directly onto the rig as opposed to onto the default wheel deck? Would this rig handle a direct drive wheel just as well as the P1?

    • @simracinggarage3026
      @simracinggarage3026  4 года назад +2

      The P1/P1-X front mount is a superior design to the one on this cockpit. As is the whole wheelbase assembly of the P1/P1-X. So, the EVO won't handle a DD as well.

    Sorry about this wird question Barry, but what's your height? I'm trying to visually measure how to put on my D-Box when I get my GT1 Evo in two weeks, by looking at your video/still picture.. I'm looking in to having the single rear actuator on the inside for better pitch, that would mean I have to sit further ahead in the rig. Hence my weird question :)
